1 What is meant by Organisational Behaviour? Describe the interpersonal role and informational
role of managers.
Answer : Organizational behavior is the field of study that investigates how organizational structures
affect behavior within organizations.
Organizational behavior studies the impact individuals, groups, and structures have on human
behavior within organizations. It is an interdisciplinary field that includes sociology, psychology,
communication, and management. Organizational behavior complements organizational theory,
which focuses on organizational and intra-
2 What is the meaning of organisation design? Explain the following elements of Organization
Structure:
(a) Hierarchy
(b) Division of work
(c) Unity of command
Answer : Organizational Design is the science (and art) of creating an organizational structure
optimized to support strategic, business or cultural goals. It examines strategies, culture, structure,
processes and more to achieve goals. An optimal design can improve efficiencies, drive desired
behavior, spark innovation and

In a hierarchical organisation employees are ranked at various levels within the organisation, each
level is one above the other. At each stage in the chain, one person has a number of workers directly
under them, within their span of control. A tall hierarchical organisation has many levels and a flat
hierarchical organisation will only

Division of Work and Specialization: Division of work leads to specialization. Every department of an
Organisation should be given specialized functions. This will raise the overall efficiency and quality of
work of an Organisation. At the same time, specialization and departmentation should not have any
adverse effect on the total

Unity of command principle suggests that each subordinate should have only one superior whose
command he has to obey. Dual subordination is undesirable as it leads to confusion, disorder,
uneasiness and

Answer : Learning theories are conceptual frameworks that describe how information is absorbed,
processed, and retained during learning. Cognitive, emotional, and environmental influences, as well
as prior experience, all play a part in how understanding, or a world view, is acquired or changed,
and knowledge and skills retained.
4 What is meant by conflict? Describe the Sources of Conflict?
Answer : The effective management of workplace conflict requires an understanding of the nature
and sources of conflict in the workplace. Conflict occurs when there is a perception of incompatible
interests between workplace participants. This should be distinguished from disputes. Disputes are
merely a by-product of conflict. They are the outward articulation of conflict.
5 Define the term ‘power’ with respect to organisational behaviour. What are the sources of
power? Explain.
Answer : Power is an important dynamic (concept or variable) in organizational behavior.

Max Weber: "The probability that one actor within a social relationship will be in a position to carry
out his own will despite resistance."
6 Explain the importance of Groups. Describe the stages of Group Development.
Answer : People from diverse backgrounds come together to form groups in business and personal
settings. Whether you own a small business, are employed by a company, volunteer at a non-profit
or are a member of a professional organization, working in a group is inevitable. Group work,
whether it is a team of two or a team of 20, is important in solving problems and accomplishing
tasks.
