The Basilica Aemilia was built in 179 BC in Rome. It was located next to the Roman Forum and consisted of two floors with a ground floor made of colorful marble. It had a shopping arcade on the northern side and a roof covered in bronze tiles. The Basilica Aemilia served as a public meeting place and market in the Roman Forum.

The Curia was the meeting place for senators in ancient Rome. It was located in the Roman Forum and served as the center of political life and management. The original Curia Hostilia was later replaced by the Curia Julia, which maintained a similar structure but was rebuilt and repaired over time after fires. The Curia had a rectangular design and featured marble floors and panels on the exterior walls. It provided space for senators to discuss issues and for magistrates to preside over assemblies.
Roman Republic: the Tabularium
The Tabularium was the public records office of ancient Rome, located near the Temple of Jupiter on the Capitoline Hill. It stored important state documents and served as an archive. Built in 78 BC, it had a trapezoidal foundation and a facade of Doric columns. In the Middle Ages, it lost its original function and three new stories were added. Today it houses Rome's city hall. Pompey’s Theatre

- 2. . At the end of the Punic War Rome came into closer contact with the Hellenistic world of Greece , and the increase in urban population and wealth was reflected in the construction of numerous basilicas HISTORY
- 3. The Basilica Aemilia was built in 179 BC. The building consisted of two floors. Next to the forum there was a shopping-arcade. The ground was made of marble with lots of colors. The roof was covered by bronze tiles. Partly due to the basilica, the Roman Forum became a meeting place surrounded by wondrous buildings.
- 4. Innovation in Rome The use of concrete also changed the way many building facades were designed. Weight bearing columns were often replaced with decorative columns and pilasters since the concrete itself carried the building weight.
- 5. The inner of the basilca (± 70 x 29 m) was treated as a great central nave surrounded on all four sides by aisles and with a second, narrow aisle along the north side. The aisles had certainly a second storey with columns of a smaller scale.
- 7. The Basilica Aemilia’s main purpose in the Roman Forum was to hold public meetings, as it was one of the Biggest buildings in the Roman Forum. The Basilica Aemilia’s Second purpose was to Have Markets just on the outdoor areas of the Basilica which was on the Northern side.
