This document provides an overview of Module 3, which examines the concepts of transcendence and immanence as related to religion. It incorporates examples from Star Wars to demonstrate these concepts. Students will learn about religious worldviews that acknowledge supernatural dimensions and divine powers beyond or within humans. They will discuss how transcendence and immanence are shown in Star Wars, Christianity, and Hinduism. The goal is to use Star Wars to show transcendence as belief in divine powers beyond humans and immanence as belief in divine powers within individuals.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. - John 1:1-5 (ESV)
Confrontation with the Powers and Philosophies requiers both Spiritual and academic philosophy, leading to engagement in the Public square. What are the requirements and progressions in experiencing he Power of the Holy Spirit? And in leading into the spiritual and societal conflicts.

Aaron Tan Module Three”Question 1 Is thinking about the sacr.docxransayo
Aaron Tan
“Module Three”
Question 1: Is thinking about the sacred a useful method for understanding our own existence? Why or why not?
The term for the coming up and existence of the sacred is hierophany. There exists different forms of manifestations of the sacred as is evident in the histories of different religions across the world today. Judaism, for example, came about as a result of Moses and his leading the children of Israel out of suffering and consequently being handed the Ten Commandments which were later to form the basis of Judaism. Islam, on the other hand, arose as a result of divine intervention of an angel of God on Muhammad when he was required by the angel of God to recite. Buddhism came about due to the discovery of several aspects about life by a master of trance. Evidently, the forms through which the sacred came into existence or were initially manifested vary from one religion to another. A study of the appearance of the sacred forms a crucial part in understanding one’s personal existence.
Several crucial lessons that are relevant to our experiences can be drawn from these studies of the sacred (Mircea, p. 186). A good example is from the case of Buddhism and how it came into existence. One can relate well with the experiences of Buddha as he sought with unwavering determination to find answers to the questions he had. Siddhartha Gautama had from a previous existence had a clear ambition of one day becoming a Buddha. He worked tirelessly and with much resolve towards the fulfilment of his goal. From this, one appreciates the fact that effort and determination are the core investments for any endeavor to be fruitful.
From both the Islamic and the Christian points of view, it is clear that the existence of the human race was not by chance but by the will and influence of a supreme being. According to the Islamic religion, the existence of humanity began from a clot of blood whereas according to Christianity, it was from creation from a lump of dust (Cunningham & Kelsay, 2013, p. 201). Despite the differences in the two accounts, the existence of a supreme being to whom all humanity should be answerable is common to both. This plays an important role towards unmasking and understanding our very own existence as both religions offer guiding principles as to how one should live in accordance to God’s will.
In thinking about the sacred, one weighs the legitimacy of some objects that are considered sacred by different religions around the world (Clifford, p. 195). This is mostly done by considering how they came into existence in the first place. According to Christianity and Islam, the Bible and the Quran, respectively, are deemed as sacred books as both religions believe that they represent God’s words. The processes that influences the existence of both books were inspired by god. Since these sacred books offer accounts on how humanity came into existence, a study of the appearance of the sacred is crucial in trying to.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This slide is special for master students (MIBS & MIFB) in UUM. Also useful for readers who are interested in the topic of contemporary Islamic banking.

and belief systems
4. PROBLEM STATEMENT
MODULE 3
Use STAR WARS to demonstrate the concepts of
Transcendence and Immanence
5. The Goal of this 6P is to answer the problem
Statement, via the following Plan:
What is Transcendence? What is Immanence? If and where do the two cross over in
belief?
Demonstrating the above in STAR WARS...Where is Transcendence demonstrated?
Where is immanence demonstrated? If and where do these two concepts ‘cross
pollinate’?
Viewing how Transcendence Immanence and the crossover of two are revealed
within a Semitic Religion. In this case Christianity
Viewing how Transcendence, Immanence and a possible cross over are shown within
an Indus Faith Tradition. In this scenario the Hindu Faith.
6. Glossary and DEFINITION: What is Immanent? What is Transcendent?
TRANSCENDENT RELIGION
1. A religion that holds that there are beings that exist beyond the known
universe that are not subject to the laws of nature; polytheism and monotheism
are the two principal types of transcendent religion. (Oxford Studies of Religion Text)
2.The belief in a divine being or powers whose existence’goes beyond’ human
limitations. It is opposed to the term ‘immanent’ (Living Religion 4th Edition)
IMMANENT RELIGION
1. A religion that holds that gods, goddesses or divine spirits live within nature
and that the universe was created by these spirits and is maintained by their
power.(Oxford Studies of ReligionText)
2. A world view that recognises a divine being or powers as a constant reality-an
active and continuing presence among believers and in this world (Living Religion 4th
7. In the movie A NEW HOPE the scene Use The Force potrays evidence that there are
forces and expression of both Transcendence and Immanence
When we hear “Use The Force” and “Let Go Luke” it is as though a great being
beyond the surrounding realm of existence is guiding Luke in his gallactic battle
against evil forces. It is interesting to hear the evil representation: Darth Vader
comment: The force is strong” This would relate to a being beyond the known
universe (see definition)
Where is immanence linked in this scene? Could it be in the action of Luke switching
off his contact “ You’ve switched off your targeting Computer, what’s wrong?” Luke
responds determined “ Nothing I’m allright” Here we move to an angle of cross
pollination. Is the God within Luke the master of his destiny here ?or, is it that the
superior Universal force has saved him from pending death?
8. Han Solo applauds the action as though it was a reference to both the transcendence
an immanence of God, “Great shot Kid, that was one in a million...remember, the
Force will be with You Always” Here we tend to see how in Star Wars the concepts
of Transcendence an Immmanence are demonstrated in the form of a hybrid,
manifested not as a distinct deliniation as previously hoped for.
Earlier on in Episode IV A New Hope Obi-wan Kenobi enlightens Luke on the ways of
a Jedi Pilot. He initiates Luke’s spiritual calling by stating “ You must learn the ways of
the Force”
What is this FORCE? Obi teaches: “It is what gives a Jedhi his power, It’s an energy
field created by all living things, it surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy
together.” Is this the vital link that sways STAR WARS towards immanence rather
than transcendence? ( See Syllabus Definition Slide 2)
9. Below is one academic summation relating to the quest in understanding How
Transcendence and Immanence are placed within STAR WARS
The Force is Lucas’s distillation of religious thought and
feeling throughout human history. In his understanding of
this history, and at the core of Star Wars, the divine is no
separate deity controlling events from the outside, but
the inner God-force that impels the hearts and minds of
all of us to seek to fulfill our inner truth (James Lawler in STAR WARS
and Philosophy)
10. CHRISTIANITY
Pope Paul VI wrote in Credo of the People of God: “We believe in only one God, Father,
Son and Spirit, creator...”(The Trinity, Neil Ormerod) This shift from thinking that God the Father
was THE creator, to creation as being the role of all three persons in the Trinity is
significant in dispelling the simplistic notion that Christianity is only delivered within a
Transcendent worldview.
Christianity, although a Semitic based religion, can be experienced as a “marriage”
between both Transcendence and Immanence.
HOW? It is believed that in the theology and practice of the Christian Faith Tradition,
Transcendence and Immanence interpenetrate in a most exceptional manner. As God
is the three persons of the Trinity, it is within the second person of the Godhead that
the answer lies. It is the mysterious and paradoxical nature of The Christ where a
link, a bridge is built between infinite deity and finite man. Thus, the God of Abraham
(Transcendent) dwelt amongst us (Immanent) as Man (Incarnate and Divine)
11. HINDUISM
An Indus based religion, Hinduism is not a monolithic(single and uniform) religion.
Rather it embraces a wide diversity of religious belief. Transcendently, Hindus define
the God-spirit as being universal, eternal and the creator of the universe. God is
without form and name.
Immanently, (emphasises the presence of God or gods within human existence) so
that God can be understood by common people, God is given human form and
attributes.
Generally, it can be said that Hindus have One divinity which is worshipped in many
appearances under different names. Contrary to the above understandings, a sense of
transcendence and immanence cross pollinating may be difficult to ascertain because
there are forms of Hindu philosophy that did not assume the existence of God.
12. CONCLUSION
STAR WARS demonstrated Transcendence, Immanence and the cross referencing of
both concepts in Luke Skywalker’s spiritual quest as a Jedi Knight trusting that the
FORCE was beyond and within him.
Christianity, more than any other Faith tradition, through the incarnation of Jesus The
Christ, reveals an inter-penetrable experience of Transcendence and Immanence.
Hinduism presents aspects of both, leaning towards a divine being or beings dwelling
within the individual adherent, hence Immanent in fundamental direction.
