Philosophy can be defined in three ways: etymologically as the love of wisdom, terminologically as different thinkers have defined it, and practically as thinking systematically, rationally, and universally. There are four main branches of philosophy: metaphysics, axiology, epistemology, and logic. Education is defined as a comprehensive process to develop individuals' abilities through social and institutional learning. The philosophy of education views education as a socialization process, a means for cultural development and social integration, and as determining social placement based on academic performance.

Epistemology of Islam
At present, people following Islam consider Qur’an as the prime source of any type of knowledge.
Hazrat Mohammad divided knowledge in two forms-
i. Physical- He has put physical products and social life under physical knowledge
ii. Spiritual - knowledge of Islam religion under spiritual knowledge.
In Quran, there are three ways mentioned to attain physical knowledge
-i. Ilmul Yakeen (believe by estimating)
-ii. Enul Yakeen (believe by seeing)
-iii. Hakkul Yakeen (believe by touching)
This clearly means senses are considered as a medium to attain physical knowledge.
Where attaining spiritual knowledge is concerned, Islam considers information given by the prophets.
Axiology of Islam
According to Qur’an & Islamic Law (Shariyah) Desirable Acts Undesirable Acts divided into Two Parts-
-Halal – Lawful
-Haram – Unlawful
-Fard – Obligatory: An act commanded by Allah in the Holy Qur'an is known as Fard.
-Sunnat :
--Sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah:an act done or liked by the Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) in relation to worship.
--Sunnat-e-Ghayr Mu’akkadah:The Messenger of Allah had performed such an act, but also omitted it without any reason.

NOTE: correction in types of Idealism (3rd Slide). corrected types are as following:
1= Subjective Idealism. It is termed subjective since it holds that all objects of knowledge are subjective in as much that they depend upon the mind. It is equivalent to a conceptual theory since it also holds that the universe is composed of either minds alone or of minds and their ideas, nothing else besides.
2 = Phenomenalism. This particular form of idealism was propounded by Kant the German philosopher. Kant's first discovery concerned the limits of man's knowledge, and it led him to the conclusion that the only knowledge that is possible to man is knowledge of the phenomenon.
3 = Objective Idealism. The Hegelian form of idealism is also known as objective idealism. According to Hegel, the ultimate reality is the absolute eternal substance, outside which nothing can and does exist.
Note 2: there are typological errors in slide 4 and 5. correct sentence is "Idealism and Aims of Education".

2. Meaning of Philosophy from 3 Angles :
1. Etymology (Language)
Comes from the Greek word philosophia
philo = love - Sophia = knowledge
Love for knowledge or wisdom
2. Terminology
Different philosophers have different definitions for the meaning of
philosophy.
3. 3. Practicality
Philosophy means “thinking thoroughly, free from the bonds of
tradition and having the following characteristics, namely systematic,
radical and universal”.
- Thinking systematically
- Thinking rationally
- Thinking universally
4. Branches of Philosophy
• Metaphysics (ontology) : speculative, cause-and-effect relationship
Eg : What is truth? What is mankind?
• Axiology : ethics and aesthetics
Eg : What is goodness? What is beauty?
• Epistemology : knowledge and beliefs
Eg : What is knowledge? What are the sources of knowledge?
• Logic : differentiates between valid and confusing ideas.
Eg : What is good reasoning? Not so good reasoning?
5. Concept of Education
• According to the Dictionary of Education (1979),
“Education is a comprehensive process to develop an individual’s
abilities and behaviour. It is also a social process which provides
opportunities for the individual to acquire social skills for personal
development. Furthermore, it is conducted in a selected and controlled
institutionalized environment which we call school.”
6. Eastern Educationists
• The role of education is to nurture good behaviour in man so that
they will be law-abiding, loyal and love their king and country.
Islamic Educationists
• The education unifies all knowledge and that education is grounded
in the Quran. Education plays an important role in creating a
balance for the physical, intellectual and spiritual potentials of the
individual.
7. Concept of Philosophy of Education
• Socialization process – Gives students opportunities to interact with
one another in order to help them.
• Cultural development – Creates and promotes culture.
• Social integration – Become more united as a result of the teaching of
cultural values and norms.
• Social placement – School achievement is evaluated based on
