The CCIB was founded in 2004 as part of the Universal Forum of Cultures*.
After the event, responsibility for the management of the new convention
centre was awarded to GL events CCIB SL, a company formed specifically for
the purpose with the following shareholding distribution:

The CCIB is one of the largest convention centres in Europe and it consists of two
buildings, each boasting great architectural flair, cutting-edge technology and a
great location in the new Diagonal Mar urban development.

Its waste creation is particularly intensive (exhibition materials, posters, etc.).

social responsibility

a fundamental level.

Today, all of this is a reality in the CCIB, as a result of its own policy of
responsibility, and therefore, of environmental sustainability:

Accordingly, since 2009, the CCIB has been
committed to minimizing its 'carbon
footprint’: it compensates for the CO2
emissions resulting from the company’s activity
by purchasing carbon credits (CER) associated
with sustainable projects, endorsed by the
United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC).

  • 3. The CCIB was founded in 2004 as part of the Universal Forum of Cultures*. After the event, responsibility for the management of the new convention centre was awarded to GL events CCIB SL, a company formed specifically for the purpose with the following shareholding distribution: CCIB, the birth of a great project *The 2004 Fòrum Universal de les Cultures, to give its Catalan title, was the first in a series of international debates on macro- sustainability, peace and cultural diversity. It was inaugurated on May 9th and lasted 141 days until September 26th . The CCIB is one of the largest convention centres in Europe and it consists of two buildings, each boasting great architectural flair, cutting-edge technology and a great location in the new Diagonal Mar urban development.   • 27. CCIB F&B The CCIB has its own in-house F&B service provider which operates exclusively in the 3,000 m2 of kitchens and catering spaces throughout the Centre. The gastronomic delights offered take modern Catalan cuisine as its inspiration, reflecting the spirit of modernity that reigns throughout the Centre.

In the associative events market, the CCIB has been very successful in attracting a large number of congresses, fairs and institutional events that always raise the profile of the organizer and enable them to bring together and manage a large number of attendees in a single space. Associative events Since 2005, due to major events and conferences with either local, European or global reach, the CCIB has attracted more than 3.000.000 delegates generating a huge economic impact on the city. The largest of these events so far has been United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) with 14.000 participants.

  • 39. Committed to sustainability The events industry has a very significant environmental impact. Its waste creation is particularly intensive (exhibition materials, posters, etc.). From its birth in 2004, the CCIB has always held that its management should involve all aspects of social responsibility and sustainability at a fundamental level.
