Baptism is a sacrament of initiation that marks the beginning of the Christian life. Through baptism, one is united with Christ and shares in his death and resurrection. Baptism cleanses one from original sin and rebirths them to new life in the Holy Spirit. Baptism also incorporates one into the Church, uniting them with other members of Christ's body.

depravation of sanctifying grace.

Baptism’s sensible sign of washing
with water symbolizes and effects a
cleansing from all sin and rebirth to
new life in the spirit. It is the Holy
Spirit that frees us from sin.
