1. G321 Thriller Poster Analysis
Task 1
This film poster for the motion picture the Dark
Knight Rises is very conventional of the thriller
genre. The creators of this poster use many
techniques such as representation, colour and
themes to help portray the thriller genre and the
films subjects.
The colours used by the designer show the winter
scene in which the main part of the plot takes
place. The light shines upon bane to highlight his
power. The darker side suggests an edge of
mystery or deception. The background scene
shows a storm which has connotations of a
tragedy or disaster and runs along side a theme of
the film.
The character present in this poster “Bane” is the
main villain in the film. In this picture he is put up
on a pedestal of the armoured vehicle and
showed from below creating a sense of
empowerment and strength. It is important to get
this opinion of the masked man across because
this will set the scene for the film. He is wearing
the iconic sheepskin coat and body armour in
which we see him in the same scene as the
background.
There is very little text giving emphasis to the
character and setting, it also does not give away
much of the film due to the poster being pre
release of the film.
The image of bane standing upon the vehicle
known as Batman’s suggests a potential narrative
of him taking control of the vehicle at some point
in the film.
The text used to write out the title is plain and
simple with a grey translucent colouring and the
bat symbol behind. This is synonymous with the
trilogy and helps to link the three films together.
The tag line “The legend Ends” suggests many
things and will create controversy between
fanatics because it suggests that, Batman, the
legend, may die or perhaps that it will be the last
film of the group. These Potential narratives will
cause the film to be further spoken about.
Increasing popularity.
The title itself has connotations of a thriller genre.
It creates a picture of darkness rising, but also of
Batman rising as well this suggests a potential
narrative that he falls or fails.
