The document discusses the concept of insurgency, which refers to an armed rebellion against a constituted authority. An insurgency can be opposed through counterinsurgency warfare, measures to protect the population, and political/economic actions aimed at undermining the insurgents' claims. Insurgencies exist in an ambiguous legal and conceptual space, as not all rebellions qualify as insurgencies under international law.

The document discusses performance enhancing drugs in sports and argues they should be legalized. It notes their widespread current use in sports and how testing cannot detect all drug use. It also argues athletes take health risks willingly and fans want to see peak performance, so banning drugs is unreasonable and hypocritical. Legalization with regulation could better protect athlete health while satisfying fan interests.

The document discusses the Flapper and Gibson Girl styles that were popular for women in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These styles represented different images of the modern woman - Flappers dressed more casually while Gibson Girls emphasized traditional femininity through corsets and accentuating their figures. Both styles nonetheless promoted women's rights and equality as women took on new social roles during this period.

2. Psychodynamic Approach Analysis
Jones and Butman (2012) in chapter four point out that contemporary psychodynamic approaches,
although they originate from Freud s view of personality development, psychodynamic view are less
biological and mechanistic. Psychodynamic approaches focuses more on individuals cognitive and
interpersonal process. Jones and Butman argue that psychodynamic approaches are divided into three
views: ego Psychology, object relations and self psychology. These theories propose that caregivers or
parents should foster both independence, and protection and nurturance so as to deter personality
disturbances. The ego psychology model argues that personality development occurs across the life
span. The theory suggests that the ego strives for adaptability,

3. Effects Of Pecs On Manding And Speech Development For...
Another study by Tincani, Crozier, and Alazetta (2006) looked at the effects of PECS on manding and
speech development for school aged children. The study had two different parts, the first study
involved two children with ASD, and the study wanted to increase the amount of independent
manding, displayed when a child exchanges a picture symbol for an object without prompting. The
researchers followed the PECS guidelines in a delayed multiple baseline design study, where
participant one was taught phases I IV of PECS and participant two was taught phases I and II of
PECS. Both participants greatly increased their independent manding over the course of the study,
especially as they advanced through the phases of PECS. Participant two required more than twice as
many sessions as participant one to meet the acquisition criteria for phases I and II and therefore did
not have the opportunity to learn subsequent phases before the experiment ended. Participant two did
not use any measurable speech during the study and therefore was not used for study two. Participant
one demonstrated only vocal approximations (vocalization that was clearly not the name of the item
the participant was manding) instead of word vocalization and participant two did not use any
measurable speech during the study. Therefore, neither participant qualified to participate in the
second part of the study. (Tincani, Crozier, Alazetta, 2006). The second part of the study performed by

4. Divergent Plates Are Formed From Plate Tectonic Plates
I know that mountains are created from plate tectonics. Convergent plates are made out of the
lithosphere. The lithosphere is the rocky outer part of Earth containing the crust (the thin layer of rock
under the land) and the mantle (a layer of mostly silicate rock that is directly under the crust).
Convergent plates are tectonic plates that collide and scrape against each other to form geological
features such as mountains and volcanoes. Mountains and volcanoes form when one convergent plate
slides under another one, causing a subduction zone. A subduction zone is a geological process that
takes place at a convergent plate boundary. One plate moves under the other and is forced to sink
because of the gravity in the mantle. When this happens, molten rock (lava) is forced to the surface.
This causes volcanoes to form. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mountains can also form when convergent plates smash into each other. Furthermore, stream erosion
made a path for the river that runs through the Rocky Mountains. I can infer that water collected on
the ground and then slowly trickled down a slope, carrying rock and sediments away with it.
Overtime, more and more rain/water collected in the stream which made it grow wider. Now, a long,
wide, and deep river has formed. Finally, I can see where abrasion could have made the bottom of the
mountains smooth and curved. I think that pieces of rock could have fallen off some of the mountains
in the Rocky Mountain Range (maybe due to ice wedging). When they fall, they rub on the base of the
mountains. This chips part of the rock off and smooths it

5. A Brief Note On Porsche s Engine Downsizing
Porsche s Engine Downsizing
There are more than one billion cars in the world right now and this number is increasing everyday
due to the demand of the cars. Most of the cars in the world have big engines right now. What a big
engine means is the eight cylinder V8, ten cylinder V10, or twelve cylinder V12 engines. Those types
of engines have been used for many years in the car industry. All the car manufacturers prefer to use
those engines because people like them and thinking that more cylinder means more power. For many
years those car manufacturers have not realized one thing that big engines emission rates are really
bad and those engines are actually creating tons of carbon monoxide because they have more
cylinders. Basically more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Porsche started to downsize their engines to fit their engine emission rates to the new rules. By that
move, Porsche was one of the first sports car manufacturer that started to downsize their engines.
Downsizing the engine mean is actually pretty simple. They are actually taking 4.8 liter, eight cylinder
V8 engine and changing it with the 3.6 liter, six cylinder V6 engine. When they are making the engine
smaller, they are also adding that engine a turbocharger to make it much powerful as the bigger
engine. (Turbocharger is helping the engine to get more air to the pistons to increase it is performance)
Most of the Porsche customers thought bigger engines were stronger and it makes the car go faster.
Actually, it is not true because when they add turbochargers to the engine, it makes the car much
powerful as the bigger engines. Another thing about the downsizing the engine is the fact that, when
the manufacturer downsizes the engine they are actually making the car lighter. When a car becomes
lighter, it is actually goes faster than the previous models because it has much power as the old model,
but it is lighter. However in order to prove their small engines performance to their customers, in 2014
Porsche started to compete in the FIA WEC 24 hour races to test their new downsized engines to see
their performance and reliability in long endurance races.

6. Women Gender Roles
For centuries now, women have been bombarded with an infinite amount of conflicting and
overwhelming messages about what it means to be a woman and which behaviors are considered
appropriate, especially regarding sexual behavior. Traditionally, women have always been defined in
relation to men. Men are seen as strong, while woman are seen as weak. Men are superior and women
are their subordinates. This is exemplified by the fact that masculine traits such as strong, non
emotional, and competitive are considered socially desirable traits, while feminine traits such as
docile, emotional, and passive are not. We evidently live in a society that is not only sexist, but also
undoubtedly racist. The white woman typically appears as virtuous and pure, while the woman of
color typically appears as unclean and tainted. If the woman of color also happens to be poor, she
appears as being even more worthless. Therefore, in the United States, femininity as a concept is
inextricably linked with concepts of race and class. In the present paper, I discuss the effect that this is
having on women and their sexuality, the events that have paved the traveled path towards gender
equality, and current issues plaguing women today, such as the attack on our reproductive rights and
our value as women.
It is undoubtedly safe to say that we live in a sex drenched culture. Entire generations have grown up
around sexual imagery. This raises the question as to how exactly we got to this position.

7. Describe What Montessori Meant by “New Education”
Dr Maria Montessori dedicated and committed her life into education of the children. She has
witnessed through some years with wars and conflicts and she thought; through education this can be
turned into peace to this world. Since the year 1907 Montessori name has been recognized in the
education system. Even though it has been over a century to this date Montessori principles are as
powerful as it was. Dr Maria Montessori has relied on her actual observations on children to develop
her method of education. During these observations she has discovered that each child has their own
urge to learn through their own way. She brought to light that children has an enormous ability which
can be turned into positive energy and a new beginning. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can spend a very long time for example changing their shoes into slippers when they arrive at
the nursery in the morning. While child is taking his shoes off parents/carers cannot help but taking
over the action in order to get it finished and done with. They often lose their patience and complain
that their child is taking such a long time! Or they cannot help but saying Let me do that for you .
What adults expect is an adult speed from the children. Montessori says, He is following a timetable
like the most diligent scholar in the world following it with the unshakable constancy of the stars in
their courses. (Maria Montessori: Her Life and Work, Chapter 8, p.125). It is important that in order to
help little children, adults firstly needs to learn to respect the rhythm of children. She stressed that
children will repeat the same thing over and over. For example a child in the nursery picking the same
book each time he is asked to choose a book for teacher to read to children. Another example of a
child in the nursery who is choosing the very same practical life transferring water with a turkey baster
activity each morning at the arrival of the nursery and going back to it though out the day. Montessori
says Now by the very boredom you have experienced in thus repeating and repeating this same
exercise, you will be able to measure that imperious inner urge that drives the children to do the same
thing. (Maria Montessori: Her

8. The Life of Fidel Castro
Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, born in Birán, Cuba on August 13, 1926, changed his country ever since
he came to power. Castro s father, Ángel Castro y Argiz, was a wealthy plantation owner and was an
immigrant from Galicia, Spain. His mother, Lina Ruz González, was Ángel s mistress and house
servant while Ángel was still married to Maria Luisa Argota. Castro was educated in many Jesuit
boarding schools, from grade school to middle school, in which he was a mediocre student and was
not well behaved, only focusing on playing sports. Although Castro attended a religious boarding
school, it did not affect him in any way and was still getting into trouble as a young child. After Castro
graduated from high school he studied law at the University of Havana. In his classes, he became very
fond of anti imperialism, socialism, and the political climate of Cuban nationalism, which had helped
him while in power. On February 16,1959, Fidel Alejandro Ruz Castro was sworn in as Prime
Minister of Cuba. Castro secretly started to turn to Communism. He wanted to nationalize plantations
and factories. The U.S. is known for its strong opinion on democracy, so when the U.S. heard this, it
caused lots of friction between Cuba and the U.S. so Castro denied that he wanted to control Cuba as a
communist. Castro then signed the First Agrarian Reform Law, which prohibited foreigners from
owning land in Cuba while also only allowing 993 acres of land per citizen. Castro was then trying to

9. Harvey Milk Thesis Statement
Due to the increasingly negative view of homosexuality in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s, the
LGBTQ community was facing a world altering decision; they could either shrink into the
background, and allow the world to continue to draw its opinions based on speculation, or claim the
spotlight and allow themselves to be judged based on their own merit. Harvey Milk, the first openly
gay elected official in the United States (Hope Speech, Commentary) saw a need for an uprising of the
latter. When addressing a crowd of his supporters and the Lesbian, Gay, Bi Sexual, Transgender,
Queer (LGBTQ) people in The Hope Speech at San Francisco City Hall on Gay Freedom Day in
1978, Harvey Milk uses the I You/Us Them relationships as defined by Martin Buber, pathos appeals,
and shared experiences to establish an emotional bond with the LGBTQ community. This relationship
of comradery and mentorship, deeply rooted in shared values, best prepared the crowd to absorb his
message of activism and hope. Harvey Milk, though he had known since high school that he was gay
(Biography), was initially outwardly ambivalent to legislation passed against the LGBTQ community.
This all changed after he befriended a group of gay radicals in his mid forties. They propelled him into
the politically charged world of activism, in which he developed his voice, and stood out as a leader in
the LGBTQ community. Milk stood on the steps of the San Francisco s City Hall to celebrate Gay
Freedom, but also to

10. Boarding School Research Paper
Boarding schools are scary enough for children who speak the same language. Imagine a village,
soldiers come in and take the children, age five and older, away in a wagon. The children arrive at a
school far away from home, family, and culture. Separated according to age and sex, stripped of their
clothes, bathed, and forced to stand still as they get their hair cut, many are crying, terrified of what is
happening. They receive uniforms, and new Christian names, thus stripping them of their identities.
Unfortunately, this is how most Indian children received an introduction to boarding school. The plan
was to use education to assimilate the children into the Christian culture. There is a thin line between
the success and failure of the assimilation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 1940 1960 approximately 122,000 American Indians migrated from reservations to urban areas,
in an attempt to find work and self assimilate, due to the deplorable conditions of reservations within
the United States. In 1952 with the establishment of the Indian Bureau Relocation Program, Indians
began self assimilating with the promise of financial assistance to relocate to urban areas of the United
States. Whereas, the British Columbians granted citizenship to the Indians of their era and allow them
to choose whether they will live on the reserve or within the general population of the country. The
silent assimilation created by the relocation program and the decisions that the British Columbian
government made regarding the Indians was successful. The indication of this success is the fact that
twenty two percent of U.S. Indians and one third of British Columbia Indians live on reservations,
showing that silent assimilation with incentives is more successful than forced

11. A Walk In The Woods Analysis
Throughout A Walk in the Woods, Bill Bryson transitions between a narrative of his journey along the
Appalachian Trail and informational accounts of the history of the trail. To keep his readers engaged,
Bryson includes many light hearted moments, but he conveys the gravity of the trail through his
honest assessments regarding its adversities. Bryson uses a simple style that allows the readers to
follow along easily, but he includes strong imagery with higher level diction in order to better relate
the essence of the trail. All of these aspects express how something simple, like the Appalachian Trail,
can embody more than shallow sentiments.
Bryson structures his memoir by flowing between his experiences on the trail and facts about the trail.
Many times, his knowledgeable anecdotes relate to the leg of the journey he is currently relating. By
doing so, Bryson imparts stimulating and significant knowledge to the readers in such a way that the
readers can immediately see the significance of the facts. Bryson writes, The Smokies... are home to
130 native species of tree; the whole of Europe has just 85. By incorporating facts like these into his
writing, Bryson not only presents interesting information, but he presents it so that it adds to the
mental image of the mountains. Suddenly the reader can picture thousands of trees spanning through
the landscape, accented by the various colors and shapes. By swapping back and forth, Bryson
emphasizes his theme that the nature we have

The European conquest for establishing North American colonies began with various motivations,
each dependent on different, and/or merging necessities: economics, the desire to flee negative

Columbus in 1492 in search for a trade route to Cathay (China), North America remained uninhabited,
excluding the Native American establishments. Following this discovery, Spain along with other
European nations such as France, England, Sweden and the Netherlands soon began the expedition to

When traveling to London from urban areas created overpopulation in the city, and increasingly
horrendous conditions, the move to a more prosperous land seemed more and more inviting. This idea
was further enhanced by the works of English Richard Hakluyt in novels such as The Principal
Navigations, Voyages, and Discoveries of the English Nation, and Voyages, where readers were given
false insight into a vastly successful New World, theoretically open for prosperous settlement. Those
which moved to London with abortive attempts to find work, or which experienced the scarcity of
food/land supplies between 1580 and 1650, found these inviting opportunities as an escape to
otherwise, inevitable poverty. Conversely, those living in stable, prosperous societies, with satisfactory
social statuses, were less likely to be motivated by the influential works of Richard Hakluyt and the
overall conquest of America. Those experiencing religious unrest among the Catholic Church and the
Protestants embraced the opportunity to establish new settlements in the New World. For years, the
Protestants and Catholics battled for territory; during the reign of Edward VI, Protestants attempted to
exterminate Catholic origins, and following his death, Queen Mary s rule involved the execution of
Protestants. To escape religious conflicts, Plymouth, for instance, rose from Pilgrims fleeing England
to form primarily a religious settlement of Puritan Separatists. Despite the successful formation

13. The Application Of Direct Effect
This question concerns the application of direct effect to the facts in question. In particular, Fergie
requires advice on whether or not he can rely on Directive 15/2012 and enforce his EU law rights in
the national court. Fergie takes legal proceedings against Charlston Council to claim compensation for
his injury.
The council seems to have complied with the domestic law which stipulate only that, the caterers has a
duty to eliminate unhealthy food. The Act is silent on genetically modified food. The act also does not
stipulate the percentage limit of the production of genetically modified food. Charlston Council is
therefore not in breach of the national provisions. The directive, however, sets out more stringent
provisions in relation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, directives can only be vertically directly effective: that is, they can only be enforced
against a state or a public authority (Marshall)
In this case, the conditions seem to be met. The Directive is clear and precise as well as unconditional.
It sets out the limit percentage of the production of genetically modified food, 2%, if it is more than
2%, member states has to take all the necessary measures to eliminate it. The Directive is not too
vague. There is no evidence to suggest any conditions are attached to these rights or that they are in
any way ambiguous. The implementation deadline has clearly passed. Fergie s claim is against the
Charlston Council which is clearly an organ of the state. This is not affected by the fact that in this
case, it acts in the capacity of an employer (Marshall). Fergie s claim is therefore vertical and he can
rely on the Directive and the more generous rights within it in preference to the more limited
provisions of the national acts.
If Fergie is not employed by a state body or public body, the answer would be different as there would
be no direct effect, he cannot rely on Directive. The conditions for direct effect are not met.
While the conditions relating to clarity and precision as well as the passing of the implementation
deadline are the same as mentioned above and are thus not reiterated here, the requirement that there
exists a vertical relationship between

14. The Migrant Worker Lifestyle Can Be Largely Explained As A...
The migrant worker lifestyle can be largely explained as a subculture. These people have their own
values and behaviors that distinguish themselves from the average American. The migrant workers
work for little pay, and believe that hard work will pay off for them. They travel north and south and
across the United States following the harvests of different crops so they can work and get paid. The
one thing that sets this apart from the larger culture is that they are not following around the easiest or
the highest paying work. They are following some of the hardest and lowest paying work that can be
found. This is what sets their values and behaviors apart from the rest of the United States. These
people live and grow up in a completely different world than the average American child. They start
working at in their preteen years and do not stop working until their bodies won t let them anymore.
The children do not get forced into labor that early although many are. They choose to do it on their
own because they have a desire to help their family out. This is not common among the average
American household. In fact, most of the country would rise in an uproar if white children were found
to be doing this sort of work, but it seems an exception has been made for these ones. The lifestyle
that these people live is very different from the one the average American lives which makes their
lifestyle a subculture inside our larger American culture. Their experiences in life give

To compromise one must have an agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side
making concessions. In Hills Like White Elephants the moral notion is that a young couple are having

rather have an abortion. In Hills Like White Elephants , Ernest Hemingway utilizes symbolism and
characterization to reveal the complexity communication and illustrate that one must the ability to
convey information to another effectively and efficiently. In Hills Like White Elephants , Ernest
Hemingway utilizes the symbolism of the white elephants and the railroad tracks to show the
indecisiveness and lack of communication in a relationship. The author compare the hills to the long
and white traits of an elephant in order to represent the difficulties of the existence of the
pregnancy. The hills across the valley of the Ebro were long and white.Hemingway further justifies
this notion by stating On this side there was no shade and no trees and the station was between two
lines of rails in the sun. In addition the two lines of rails that the station sits between are a symbol of
having to make a difficult decision in life causing conflict on which direction their relationship will go
if the abortion take place. The discussion puts The American in a weird place and make him very
fraught.Furthermore,Hemingway acknowledges that this building sits in the sun as a means to show
the issue of the pregnancy as being brought to light.Because the relationship is brought to the light it
causes more tension between them Jig and The American. By stating that there was no shade and no
trees Hemingway emphasizes the serious and necessary nature of the conversation between The
American and the girl. This statement also highlight the discussion of the baby is a hard thing to talk
about but is something that has to be discussed.By Hemingway expressing the seriousness between the
two characters, it gives Jig ambiguity about if he would agree on Jigs decision. Hemingway also
utilizes characterization of The American as an ascendant and Jig as a complaint to show the

16. The Little Mermaid Analysis
Fairy tales often resemble what culture was like during the time in which they were written. They tell
us the story of women s struggle and survival throughout history, in societies with rules dictated by
men. Whether it be surviving the torment of a wicked stepmother or the consequences of just being
curious, one issue stays the same, the longing to escape the expectations that social norms impose is
evident with just about any story. In this paper, I will compare the similarities and differences, and
show a strong relationship between Hans Christian Anderson s, The Little Mermaid and the movie
Boyz n the Hood, written and directed by John Singleton.
The Little Mermaid, is a historical fairy tale written in the year 1836. During this time in history,
women were expected to live a certain way. The ideal woman was submissive; her job was to be a
meek, obedient, loving wife who was totally subservient to the men around her (Citation 1). This is
clearly the case in this story in many instances from beginning to end. The little mermaid is expected
to abide the rules of the sea. She is expected to follow the path of her sisters who are content with
living under the sea and is to live in her own little plot in the garden just like everyone else, but she
wasn t like the rest of her fellow mermaids. She had always had an infatuation with the surface,
always longing for her 15th birthday when she would be able to rise to the surface and see the world
of humans. Once she laid eyes on the human world and the handsome young prince, her desire to
break free from the social norm consumed her every thought.
Boyz in the Hood, is a racially charged look into the life of black males in the ghettos of California. It
took place in a time where racism was alive and well, and drug laws like the 1 100 crack/powder
disparity were being passed targeting black people disproportionally. Many cases of police brutality
and even mobs attacking and murdering black men made the headlines in the 1980s. This movie,
much like The Little Mermaid, is about the struggle of two males who are trying to break free from the
social norms imposed by society. The protagonist in this movie, Tre, moves to South Central, Los
Angeles to live

The purpose of this paper is to express a set of views on the ethical obligations of members of the
American profession of arms in order to stimulate thoughtful discussion and broader debate about the
proper limits of acceptable and effective professional conduct. These views are focused for most part
on the obligations of commissioned officers, but they apply in many ways to the public and private
conduct of senior non commissioned officers, and indeed, all military members. They depend to a
large degree on a particular understanding of the governing compact of this country and the behavior
American citizens expect of their uniformed servants. The overall objective of the Army Profession of

Professionals generally begin their professional lives by completing a higher education program in
their chosen fields (law, medicine, engineering, and so on). Professional military education (PME)
provides the Army s corollary to civilian education programs and complements the training of military
officers who have a corresponding civilian profession. PME provides progressive levels of military
education that prepare military officers for leadership. It includes various basic level courses for new
and junior officers, command and staff colleges for mid level officers, and war colleges for senior
officers. Similar levels of PME are in place for warrant officers, noncommissioned officers, and
Department of the Army civilians. Although critics would argue that the Army does not have a system
to certify its personnel as professionals, I contend that we have, and have had, systems in place to
confirm proficiency. Infantrymen and medics are certified as professionals when they obtain the
Expert Infantryman Badge and the Expert Field Medical Badge. A generation ago, the Army used a
tool called the Skill Qualification Test (SQT) that every Soldier had to take and pass, along with
required appropriate levels of PME for officers and noncommissioned officers. All Soldiers, regardless
of rank, also had to both pass the Army Physical Fitness Test and qualify with their basic weapon in

19. Spanish American Cuban War Essay
The War of 1898, also known as the Spanish American Cuban War, was a three year long battle for
Cuba s independence from Spain. Before the Cubans could, most likely, win the battle on their own
terms, America swooped in and took on Spain with only four months in the war remaining. But
America saw another problem after the war with Cubans ruling themselves. So America created the
Platt Amendment and inserted them in Cuba s constitution, saying that it was purely for Cuba s safety
against civil struggles or attacks from other military powers. These are only some of the few historical
or historiographical perspectives that ignore Louise Perez Jr arguments that the United States had
different motives for involving themselves in the War. When Cuba started fighting against Spain for
independence, America claimed they admired Cuba s passion for liberation. It reminded America of it
s own origins, making Americans believe it was their duty to help the Cuban people. Or at least this
was the noble image that the American government wanted to project and that the American people
greatly believed. As Perez states in his work, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
America had no need to involve itself at the point in time that it did. The only real reason that America
had inserted itself into the war against Spain was for personal gain. But America could not find it in
themselves to state that as their purpose for entering in the war. So they began to create an image of
being the selfless, white knights of Cuba. As Perez states, The perceptions of war in 1898, however,
did not enter the realm of public comprehension as a defense of national interests but rather as the
discharge of moral responsibilities . (pg.35) However, since Cuba had acquired independence shortly
after America s lended its support, America had to find a new excuse for staying in Cuba. This is when

Amongst all psychodynamic approaches, object relations theory fitted like a puzzle for me. I have an
integrated style with a mix of some humanistic and psychodynamic approaches like Freud s free

personal level where my poor relationship with my mother affected my married life and in my client
work a common thread that ran through was how faulty infantile object relations have an impact on
adult relationships. Object relations theory follows a model that believes that children are driven by
the need for attachment with primary caregivers especially the mother and it is paramount for the
development of a free functioning psychic structure.

23. The Fallibility Of Assumptions In Atonement By Joe Wright
Assumptions are necessary for us to function as humans, if we did not make assumptions we would
have died out as a species long ago. In the film Atonement , author Joe Wright tells the story of a
young Briony, who has chosen to tell such a terrible lie that will forever disconnect her from her sister,
happiness, and herself. This text begs the question of assumptions; why we need to understand the
fallibility of them, why we need to be able to accept the consequences of them, and why we should not
treat them as fact. The topic and overall meaning that this idea holds conveys a message that resonates
with the idea that assumptions are sometimes a major factor in how individuals go about taking
responsibility for themselves. Until an individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Briony at age seventy seven has decided that the final book she will write would be about herself, the
mistakes she has made, the lives she has ruined, and her attempted reconciliation; which ultimately is
all a result of her own childish, forced, and bluntly wrong assumptions. Briony writes the book
atonement with the intent of it being her last novel, and ends up writing a false ending, which portrays
a better ending for Robbie and Cecilia. That addition that she replaces with reality, indicating the life
they could have had if Briony had done things differently; and it is that replacement in her novel that
shows how Briony has taken responsibility for the actions caused by her assumptions. And by finally
accepting responsibility for her actions, she is now enlightened, and can see how and why the events
unfolded the way they did. And therefore, this consequently leads to the broadening of her
fundamental understanding of nearly all perspectives of the events that took place. Leading her to
being aware of the fundamental truth behind the events that not only took place in her story, but in

24. Dorothea Lynd Dix Research Paper
From the early years of her youth, Dorothea Lynd Dix endured more than her fair share of burdens and
obstacles. While growing up in Maine throughout the early 1800 s, her journey began with her
impoverished, dysfunctional family. Dorothea s father, Joseph Dix, was an unstable religious preacher
and her mother, Mary Bigelow, suffered from a mental illness and remained emotionally distant (Staff,
History.com 2009). Growing up as the eldest, Dorothea felt a responsibility to take great care of her
siblings and family. Ultimately, her family s shortcomings and her compassion were what fueled her
desire to help the less fortunate and helpless.
With limited schooling and access to job professions as a female, Dorothea still exhibited a passion for
education and learning. As she grew older, she acted upon her passion and became a schoolteacher for
children who needed an education. She even worked to develop and open up various schools for
children and each with an established curriculum (Staff, History.com 2009). However, after
experiencing serious episodes of sickness, she stopped her teaching and began to write educational
textbooks for the youth instead, some of which were published in the late 1820 s to the 1840 s (Wood,
Andrew G.).

Mrs. Trollope depicts her seemingly pleasurable exploration in America with caricature which
grounded on the constantly comparison between the American domestic life with her own experience
in Europe with pretension. I have to say that to some extent, this is good travel narrative full of
exaggerated anecdotes rather than real description of Domestic manners of the Americans as the
reader expected. Mrs. Trollope amused herself largely by sneering at the system of new nation
America and its people and enjoyed her ascendency over the folly Americans. Why did she show such
scornful attitude to American style?

on Miss Wright s ridiculous conception on giving the blacks equal education to prove the human are

26. The Importance Of Work In The Feminine Mystique, By Betty...
The Importance of Work is an essay from The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan. The whole essay
talks about how humans can contribute to the society with their full capacities through work and that
women should hold jobs equivalent to men. Friedan insists that men and women need work that
satisfies their creativity and contributes to human society. Today, doing paid work is a necessity
because it helps us get through the day wether for our needs or our pleasures. The money earned from
work supports the whole family. According to Mrs. Olive Schreiner, if women did not win back their
right to a full share of honored and useful work, women s mind and muscle would weaken in a
parasitic state; her offspring, male and female would weaken progressively, and civilization itself
would deteriorate. (Friedan 8) I strongly agree with this statement. I believe that the work ethic of
most generations are influenced by parents. It is obvious that we look up to our parents. If the parents
do not show any desire to work, their children will copy them and will not contribute to society. If a
mother who is a stay at home mother or has a different job does not work hard or does not show any
work ethic, her children will look up to her and follow her footsteps and eventually civilization would
deteriorate. (Friedan 8) Friedan implies that doing work is the only way to create a meaningful life.
However, I do not agree with Friedan s implication because I think there are a million ways to create a
meaningful life. Work is an important necessity which can help you to live good and obtain your
wants. Although work should not be the most important or your main priority in life. Work should not
be the meaning of your life. There are far more important things in life than work. Work is just the
reason you are be able to afford things that are meaningful to you. For me, we need to work in order to
support our family and to satisfy their needs, to be able to help relatives or friends when they are in
need, and to satisfy you own needs. God, family, friends and your hobbies should be the one to bring
meaning to your life. Work is just the reason we can make things work and make it by. In the essay,
Friedan believes that a woman

Over the centuries, women s duties or roles in the home and in the work force have arguably changed
for the better. In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen teaches the reader about reputation and loves in the
nineteenth and twenty first centuries by showing how Elizabeth shows up in a muddy dress, declines a
marriage proposal and how women have changed over time. Anything a woman does is reflected on
her future and how other people look at her. When Elizabeth shows up to the Bingley s in a muddy

of a good fortune must be want for a wife (Austen 1 2) A rich man did not need a wife as much as a
woman needed a man. A rich single good looking man, like most of the bachelors in the novel, was

First, once Cassius kills himself, the men begin to grieve. When Cassius commits suicide, which is his
betrayal to himself, the men begin to settle their tomfoolery. Due to the men s betrayal to one another
during their war, this leads to a misunderstanding, which ultimately led to Cassius death. Second, once
Portia commits suicide, this eases Brutus motivation for betrayal because of his wife s death. Even if
Brutus brushes off her death, it really was one of the assets that drove him off the deep end. Portia s
death goes hand in hand with Brutus which ultimately ended the men acting so absurd. Lastly, due to
Brutus suicide, this ends all the absurdity amongst the men. Once Brutus runs on his sword this sets
the final peace, mainly because there is no one else to betray. This example clearly states how betrayal
leads to complete chaos, once there is no one else to betray there s finally peace. In conclusion, the
betrayal that had happened amongst the men and Romans (suicide) in the play was what conclusively
ended most of the chaos. With self betrayal being represented with suicide, after a good amount of

The modern day vampire stories are mostly all converted to love stories, and it is love in the end that
makes the wheels turn. John S. Bak, in his essay Post/modern Dracula: from Victorian themes to
postmodern praxis says. Coppola inverts Stoker s horror story and turns it into a love story, in order to
establish the central theme that universal love, not hate is what will ultimately save humanity from
evil.
Another interesting angle to using the vampire narrative as a tool in Christian hegemony is that holy
ground is never the deterrent to the vampire. It is always holy Christian ground. Religious artefacts
don t prove fatal to the vampire, Christian religious artefacts do. The idea that all religions are equal,
and other religions may also play a deterrent role never comes up. This, despite the fact that modern
day vampire narratives are exploring the realms of vampire history, and have traced vampiric lineage
all the way to Egypt during the time of the Pharaohs. However, the Christian undercurrents remain.

Due to that, the couple might end up with suffering and divorce. In case of love marriage, people
might expect more from their partner, largely because they have fallen in love before marriage. This
leads to lesser compromises, as the person expects more from his or her partner. On the other hand,
this shows that in an arranged marriage, the couple will not expect anything from the partner instead
