Audit of skills
Terminology- Within my exam it was crucial to use a wide range of good media terminologies to be
able to explain the media/ film institution in accurate detail. In my exam I included terminogies such
as ; conventions, consumer , genre, institutions, denotation (The common sense, obvious meaning of
something) and Connotation ( Associations triggered by eg. an image or an object) and convergence.
I believe I used a sufficient amount of media terminologies within my exam however it never hurts to
learn more and I would be interested in learning the less common terminologies to make my future
work more unique and in depth.
Theories- Personally, I don’t feel I learnt a sufficient amount of theories within media, I do feel I
should learn theories in depth in yr13
Using Software- I feel in year 12 we had a good range of software at our disposal, for example I
became able to use Photoshop more sufficiently and work PowerPoint to its full potential, I even
learnt how to coincide two pieces of software together using PowerPoint and slideshare. In yr. 13 I
would like to be able to use Photoshop at a high level and then eventually just use Photoshop for the
majority of my media projects.
Photoshop- This is a major software program that initially starts off as a hard programme to
understand and work with, however as time progresses it becomes easier to use.
PowerPoint- I have always been able to use powerpoint, but never really used it to its full potential as
I have never felt the need to. However, with my previous project involving showing usage of skills
on software, I incorporated music and transitions from slide to slide.
Blog- I loved using my blog as I run a blog in my free time, I customised this blog to make it unique
and personal to me by changing the header and sidebars. I hope that on my A2 blog I can make it
even better. This was possibly my favourite thing about AS.
• Adobe design- This is one software product that I actually don’t use, however I have viewed
documents on adobe before. I believe in yr. 13 I should probably improve my skills with this
programme.
• Word- I’m experienced with using word however it isn't really needed as the majority of work I
put on my blog is done through PowerPoint and SlideShare.
• Scanning- I did not scan any of my documents or pictures however I do know how to scan
things if I need to. In A2 I will probably use a scanner at some point to upload written work to
the computer.
• Evaluation- I actually think I did an in-depth evaluation and it even surprised me that I had it
finished on the original deadline and didn’t need to extend it.
• Generating Ideas- This isn’t usually a problem for me as I think I’m fairly creative and unique
when it comes down to ideas. I created my magazine based on 80’s/90’s culture.
• File organisation esp. images- I don’t think I was that bad at file organization. I had two
separate folders for each teach who taught different things within media so I knew where
everything was and then I had a separate images folder for my magazine.
• Photography Skills- At first I thought my photography skills were fairly limited. I seemed to
take photo’s of the same thing but in different angles, however when I was pointed out on this I
changed my approach and did more versatile pictures.
