Do you prefer a music video from the indie
genre to be:
• Options for this question: black and white, some black and white
or not black and white at all
• B&W - 30%
• Some B&W – 30%
• Colour– 40%
• Looking at the options separately, a majority of the responses
would indicate that the audience would prefer a video completely
in colour. However overall 60% of the audience would prefer some
sort of black and white sequence in the video. Therefore the
conclusion I got from this is to add some kind of black and white
element to the video.
Do you like editing to be in time with the beat
of the song?
• 80% of people like the video editing to be in time with the beat of
the song. Whereas the other 20% of responses had no preference
whether it is or isn’t . The result I took from this is that the
editing should be in time with the beat of the song.
Should the visuals in a music video match what
the lyrics are saying?
• Responses to this was a split 50/50 down the middle, indicating a
simple answer of using some visuals that match the song and some
which don’t to suit both sides of the audience.
Do you like it when a music video has a clear
narrative throughout it?
• Yes – 60%
• No – 40%
• The best way to suit both audience here is to use abstract aspects
in some of the music video but still have a clear narrative theme
running throughout the video.
