L&D Needs to Build Ecosystems for the Future of WorkLearningCafe
Work is becoming more interconnected as the pace of business increases. The Future of work promises to be one that is very different from today. LearningCafe considers that the simple view of organisational learning needs to evolve from a stand alone and linear view to one that recognises this interconnectedness and complexity involved in designing and implementing Learning/HR solutions.
Taking an ecosystem view removes the siloed thinking and recognises the connections, constraints and trade offs involved in designing effective Learning solutions.
In this webinar we discuss with an experienced panel about the Learning ecosystems and how it practically manifests itself in our day to day work.
The presentation was delivered by Stephen Littler and Sean McCready of ICS Learn at the CIPD L&D conference 2016. The presentation provided an overview of the the effective model that is required to participate in high quality learning and development in 2016.

How Xerox Services is Driving Learning Culture with New L&D TechnologiesDavid Blake
Bersin by Deloitte research suggests that the single biggest driver of business impact tends to be the strength of an organization’s learning culture. But most of today’s workers are increasingly overwhelmed, distracted and impatient. They’re also now empowered to direct more and more of their development, often using outside resources. As a result, building a culture of continuous, everyday learning is a growing challenge for many L&D teams. New tools and emerging technologies can help, but building and sustaining an effective learning culture also demands that L&D professionals embrace new ways of thinking and working.
In this presentation you will learn:
-What learners can teach L&D professionals about learning
-What types of technologies can enable continuous learning
-How Xerox Services University is leveraging a culture of continuous experimentation to build a habit of everyday learning
More and more, we hear about companies enabling their employees to be brand advocates. Their social acumen, along with a network of friends and family, bring competitive advantages to the business. Then the statistics drive home the case.
According to the Edelman Trust Barometer, everyday employees are twice as trusted as executives. Also, Nielsen found consumers are 77 percent more likely to buy a product when they hear about it from someone they trust. Are you ready to take your employee advocacy program to the next level?
First, you may want to review the webinar replay, “Getting Started with an Employee Advocacy Program.” This way, you’ll be ready to join our panel and us to continue the conversation with EveryoneSocial, the leading platform for employee advocacy. With expertise from Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) Zealous Wiley, we’ll discuss:

Portability - Meeting the Training and Information Needs of the Mobile WorkforceGP Strategies Corporation
Companies are faced with an ever-increasing remote workforce. Additionally, the pace of business is hastening every day and the volume of knowledge that individual performers need to master to serve your customers is exploding more than ever before. Mobile isn’t just about how to best utilize the latest smartphone, it’s about “portability” and end user performance. It's more than merely pushing content from previously designed formats and providing just one more medium of communication to an already over communicated workforce - it's about changing how information and content is designed and used.

Emotional Aspects of global Learning Solutions in Wholesale and EngineeringKarl-Ludwig Knispel
SMBs & Social Media sponsored by Sum TotalJanet Clarey
How SMBs can use social media tools to support workplace learning. Several tools discussed. Focus was on the social vs. the media - keeping it about people and strategy because, if you don't have one in a corporate learning & development department, you're probably not going to get any support for implementation. Discussion of LMS trends in the corporate arena today (more people centric vs. course centric).
What Problem is Your Organization Looking to Solve?Float
Building the business case for immersive technology requires you to be able to address key questions about the benefits of the solutions, as well as the costs, hardware, the software required, and the overall skills needed to move forward. This session will give you targeted answers to the questions your organization may have about implementing AR and VR strategies.
Content designers want highly customized learning content, but that requires a developer to create custom HTML/CSS/JavaScript for each course. And this causes developers to spend too much time copying and pasting content and applying the HTML markup instead of focusing on developing the functionality. The solution is the Adapt authoring tool. This tool allows developers to create tools that content designers can use to deliver content.
Unlocking Business Outcomes with Augmented RealityFloat
There’s no doubt that augmented reality (AR) is a very popular technology right now. Most of the applications making headlines are focused on entertainment, such as games, video and movies, and other “time wasters.” What are organizations to make of the potential of AR for business in the face of growing consumer use and interest?
There are many considerations in using augmented reality for your business. When done well, the technology can be impactful, cost-effective, and groundbreaking. In this session, you will explore some of the strongest use cases for augmented reality in the workplace, and you’ll learn how to measure these experiences’ effectiveness for real-world business outcomes.
Getting Started on Your Mixed-Reality StrategyFloat
The digital world is entering your learners’ world in a big way. Augmented reality is reshaping the way they interact with systems and websites, entertainment, and of course, education, and this change is ultimately coming to your organization!
In this session, you’ll explore the connections between some of the most popular AR experiences out there today and your corporate learning strategy. The session will cut through the hype and draw correlations between them and their success, relating how you can use their design patterns and sticky user experiences to create valuable, easy-to-use mixed-reality experiences that produce results and happy learners!
Designing and Developing Effective UX for MobileFloat
Implementing an effective mobile user experience is challenging. How do you deliver useful information at the time of need without being disruptive to the employee’s workflow? How do you integrate the content effectively within the context of the user’s task at hand? How do you leverage the available technology to reach the target audience? How can you create a mobile app that is “sticky”?
In this presentation, Float's Scott McCormick helps you build your skills in strategy and guidelines for effective user experience design, both for mobile and other new platforms. The session will examine how user-centered design can produce training that resonates with users. It will then explore the importance of context and how the learner’s environment can greatly affect the UX. As you explore the unique affordances of mobile devices and how they should contribute to your approach, you’ll also look at an actual example deployed in 2016 by a major retailer and uncover the lessons learned from that project.
#LSCon: The Missing Link - Data Interoperability From Learning Systems to Ope...Float
SCORM, the xAPI, cmi5, and a host of other learning data standards exist and have widespread acceptance in the learning community. How can these standards extend beyond the learning world into the realm of enterprise technology? What the industry needs now is a distinct and real conversation on how to align learning technology with the technology used by the rest of the enterprise.
In this deck, mobile author Chad Udell shows how Float, working with a number of industry and government stakeholders, has charted a path to bring the worlds of enterprise technology infrastructure into sync with learning ecosystems. The learning industry has had some transformation lately with the xAPI, cmi5 and a variety of cloud LMS vendors coming online. Neither of these technology realms currently talk to each other in most organizations. You’ll explore why this is, what problems it causes, and what advances in business could be gained if this issue was solved.
In this deck, you will learn:
- About the challenges of data interoperability
- How to handle the coming data avalanche and its implications for your organization
- Where learning and enterprise technology often gap or disconnect
- What the next steps in bringing enterprise technology and learning technology integration are

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
