A
Analyze Learners
General character:
The students are native Russians who just recently immigrated to the United States. There is a wide
age range as well as a wide range of maturities with all of the students being visually impaired. The ratio
of females to males is nearly even.
Specific entry competencies:
-
Little is known of the students present levels of performance.
Learning Style
- The only thing known for sure about the students in this class is that none of them are visual learners.
They will rely mostly on auditory and kinesthetic stimulation to learn.
S
State Objectives
Learning outcomes
-
Students will describe Fourth of July activities and customs.
-
Students will compare and contrast US Independence Day with Russian Independence Day.
2. Conditions of performance
- Students will put together a project do display what they have learned. The older students will write a
4-page paper and the younger kids will write a 1-page paper. Both groups will make either a 3
dimensional art project or a sound file of their interpretation of fireworks and give a 3-minute summary
of what they have learned.
Degree of acceptable performance
Each student will demonstrate with 90% accuracy knowledge of Fourth of July traditions and
similarities and differences to Russian Independence Day.
-
With the art project it must be evident that effort was put into it.
S
Select Methods, Media and Materials

U
Utilize Media and Materials
Prepare the materials, environment
-Set up materials to be felt (fireworks and decorations) in one section with enough room between them,
one section for sounds with headphones (fireworks, music), and one section or smells and food (cookout
items). Have another station where they can listen to historical information on the history of Fourth of
July.
Provide the learning experience
- Before going to the centers and exploring class discussion time will be taken to draw parallels in
between Russia and the US with their Independence Day customs.
R
Require Learner Participation
Participation in the group discussion will be aided by asking questions to specific students. Every student
will have a 5-10 minute turn with each item in each station. They will be motivated to find and learn on
their own to complete the paper and presentation at the end.
E
Evaluate and Revise
Evaluation will be based on how much they participate and how much information they end up with in
their paper and presentation.
