Injustice And Social Injustices
Introduction
Though the concept of social injustice is universal in nature, the experience varies with each person.
Factors like a person race, or gender can further influence the severity of the injustice; victims caught
in the overlap between discriminations often go unrecognized by the law and society. Many people
recognize the names Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice as African Americans who were
murdered by local police. But names like Michelle Cusseaux, Tanish Anderson, and Meagan
Hockaday often receive less feedback even though they are also murdered African Americans. The
only distinction between the sets of names is gender. Even within racial injustice, discrimination is
present between genders as some cases get national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a publication titled Black Women in Academe , author Yolanda Moses describes how isolation,
invisibility, hostility, indifference, and a lack of understanding of the Black women s experiences are
all too often part of the climate Black women may face on campuses (Moses, 1989). The detrimental
environment surrounding these women frequently results in sullenness, lack of social assertiveness,
and belief that they are less competent than male students. Even if time spent at an academic
institution is minimal, with this kind of prejudice faced at an early age, any woman black or otherwise,
would suffer the rest of their life. In response to the discrimination faced at universities, some have
created programs to aid black students and other minorities; these programs tend to generalize the
needs of all its black students and do not fully support black women specifically.
Double discrimination and its effects are not only seen in academe. Social injustice occurs in any
situation where people are treated unequally and includes discrimination and racism. For much of the
twentieth century, crime and punishment have provided some of the most powerful symbols of racial
divide in America (Rosich, 2007). Generally tried in a white dominated legal system, black victims
often face harsher punishment, longer sentences, and unfair trials. Rosich s research indicates that
white Americans widely believe that people of

Designing A Successful Training Program
In order to create a successful training program, ConAgra Foods has to have analyzed their
organization, personnel, and tasks to ensure what kind of training is necessary. After, assessing the
organization s needs, it s clear ConAgra Foods main objective for its new training program is to focus
on providing its sales team with new skills; so every one of its salespeople know their product lines
and customers so well they can serve as trusted advisors (Noe et al., 202). This means each employee
needs to be trained in understanding financial data and how sales affect ConAgra s profits. To
accomplish this goal, the company has opened up a system to share training resources in hopes of
meeting each individual s needs. To track employee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, by being able to track progress all the way through the program, a manager can see what
training methods were beneficial and areas which may need to be improved. When developing the
training program, the company planned well for ways to measure the results. This truly gives ConAgra
a competitive advantage over companies who do not evaluate their training methods.
ConAgra decided to expand their training efforts to include the first line supervisors, because these
members may not have had a chance to practice how to become a leader of individuals and teams. The
purpose of the training program was to have its supervisors understand what is involved in being a
leader at ConAgra Foods so their groups can provide better results (Noe et al., 202). To track the
success of the members, employee surveys were used to add feedback and develop new training
procedures where improvement was needed. Overall, the program proved to have decreased employee
turnover. Economically speaking, the results proved to have saved the company roughly $116,100 for
every class of 28 supervisors trained (Noe et al., 202). According to the company website, when
comparing 600 trained and 1,600 untrained supervisors...Those who went through the training also
were nearly twice as likely to be promoted (ConAgra Brands). Clearly, ConAgra s training methods
prove to be beneficial, has helped supervisor succeed and be

My Music Experience
As a young boy, I have always had an interest in Music. When my family would go on trips and
vacations out of state I would listen to music on the car radio and try to memorize all the lyrics,
rhythms, tempos, and distinct sounds of the instruments. The first music experience was at the
elementary M.E Pearson. When you got to the Fourth grade, the school allowed students to participate
in orchestra and gave them the opportunity to learn how to play certain instruments. As I walked into
that small trailer and heard the sounds, saw the articulation and how everyone moved as one. I was
flabbergasted and knew instantly this is want I wanted to do. Starting Orchestra, I was horrible and I
didn t learn how to properly play my first instrument, the cello, until the beginning of sixth grade. As
much as I was horrible, orchestra was a positive impact on my life and pushed me to achieve goals.
Going down the hall past Mr. Curry s class, bubble and bumpers, and patiently waiting outside the
orchestra room at M.E Pearson Elementary were the highlights of each day from fourth to fifth grade.
During that time of practice our class would practice articulation, posture, and how to read notes until
the bell rang and would let the school know it was time to go home. As boring as it got sometimes, I
was always filled with joy and prepared for orchestra the next day. The first time trying out for State
was the most intense experience I ever had. Out of all the experiences I have created with

Why Was The Pope Called For The Crusades
THESIS: The leaders of the Roman Catholic Church proposed The Crusades as a mission for religious
integrity but they were actually intended as a way to gain power for the Pope.. Consequently, over
time, even the Crusaders, who initially believed in the religious mission, shifted their motivation from
religious devotion to greed and vengeance.
The Pope called for the Crusades to manipulate the people of the West. The Crusades were not the
result of religious devotion, rather, they were the only way the Roman Catholic Church could
effectively achieve what they wanted. To start, there was no clear religious control, ...If the Pope could
muster a large army against the enemies of Christianity, his claim to be leader of Christian society in
the West would be strengthened. If the Pope called for the Crusades, he would gain the authority and
the respect he wanted to control the population. Additionally, the Churches did not have a high level of
integrity. One goal was to stamp out immorality: get the priests to stop marrying, stop selling

Cyberbullying Is A Problem That Affects More Than One...
With the new twitter update which allows that creation of polls that users can vote in, countless
accounts have been created to poke fun at someone s personality or looks, this is what is called
cyberbullying, and it happens each and everyday. Cyberbullying is a problem that affects more than
one fourth of adolescents in middle school and high school. With the growth of technology it has
become more imperative to implement programs in schools to help solve this problem. Today,
teenagers rely more on the internet, and other technologies to keep in touch with their friends, and
social lives. They are on all sorts of social media platforms such as facebook, twitter, instagram,
snapchat and so much more. They also use different forms of technology such as cellphones, and
online chatrooms to communicate with friends and social circles. Many adolescents use this growing
technology as a bridge between their everyday reality, and virtual reality, and sometimes, use this
technology to intimidate and harass other students which is a form of cyberbullying. Jemica Carter

Digital Literacy

January 20, 2014
In today s world it is a requirement to be digitally literate in order to be able to function in a capacity
that enables one to be more successful whether it is at home, school, at our jobs or even looking for a
job. Over the last few decades our environment has evolved into a digital environment. Being or
becoming digitally literate is essential in being successful in this digital environment. Almost
everything we do today requires some sort of digital knowledge or literacy. From surfing the internet

Most of the employers out there put all of their information online and to be able to apply for that job,
you have to use a computer. That applies to submitting your resume as well. The days of going from
business to business, filling out applications and turning in resumes are long gone. Nowadays when
you go to a business to apply for a job, they tell you to go online to their website and apply there.
Being digitally literate also relates to the everyday things that we do such as reading the newspaper or
a magazine or even writing a letter. Most newspapers and magazines can be found online today and
that can make things easier for us in our day to day lives. With that technology, we no longer have to
carry around some giant newspaper or even a magazine. We have the ability to put them on our
computers of even an iPad and access them from anywhere that you have internet access. Plus having
this technology allows us to be able to search for certain articles without having to scan through an
entire newspaper or magazine. Along with having the ability to read newspapers and magazines
digitally, those companies are also adding more pictures and links that just add that much more to the
stories. Even the newspaper companies such as the New York Times have evolved with this digital
trend by adding more color photos, charts, different fonts and even colored fonts in an attempt to make
their publications more attractive. While there are

Environmental Effects of Tourism on Thai Coral Reefs
The tourism industry has grown exponentially over the previous twenty years, it is now a worldwide
industry, both in terms of tourists and host destinations, and is no longer confined to the developed
countries that traditionally provided the demand for world travel (Page Connell, 2006, pp.4). World
leaders have long been recognising the huge economic advantages that a booming tourism industry
can bring to their nations, and vast amounts of money have been invested set up the infrastructure to
support such an industry. However, aside from the large economic advantages to the industry, there are
inevitably negative impacts to the host nation and the world as a whole. These negative impacts
usually materialise in the form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is widely believed that this continuing construction work around the coastal areas is the biggest
problem in terms of coral destruction; Nipon Pongsuwan of the Phuket Marine Biological Centre
backs this argument up by saying sludge and debris washed into the sea from building work across the
island was the main factor responsible for the reef destruction (cited in CDDN, 2004). The sludge and
sediment deposited in the water contributes the ruin of the reef by blocking out the sun s rays to the
bottom of the sea, and preventing the algae from photosynthesising which in turn leads to the
bleaching of the coral. Thailand s coastline, in particular around the low lying river estuaries, is
primarily made up of mangrove forests. Over the previous year s Thailand has seen a major decrease
in its mangrove land. This can be attributed to several things; tourism being one of them (Poonnachit
Korsieporn, 2000). Where coastal land is in high demand, many of the mangrove trees are ripped out
to create the space for building hotels and tourist complexes. Mangrove forests are a major world
ecosystem in themselves that provide a home to many species of animal; such as shrimp and different
varieties of ape, so obviously the declining mangrove forests alone are a negative environmental
impact of tourism. However, this deforestation also creates issues for the coral reefs. Mangroves act as
natural barrier to the sea; they prevent the erosion of the coast and stop

The Death Of Socrates Resides
The Death of Socrates resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is by Jacques Louis David, a
French painter from the eighteenth century. This particular piece was done in 1787 about an event that
occurred 399 BC. Socrates was faced with a legal decision to renounce his teachings or drink a cup of
hemlock, killing himself. Socrates s teachings were hugely influential in Greece at that time and it
sparked recognizable change in Athens particularly. Athenian authority saw his revolutionary thought
as a threat and because of his teaching he refused to renounce his teaching. Even without this knowing
the dramatic story of the great thinker and his demise, David s piece is profoundly striking. The
movement and placement of each character as well as the balance of shape and color provide a certain
attraction to this piece. Additionally, it provides a great example of the intriguing cross between art
and The Academy. David intelligently pays tribute to the height and power of ancient philosophy as
well as modern art and this marriage makes for a greatly impactful piece of art. At first impression, the
movement and layout are the most arresting part of this piece. Socrates, propped up on his deathbed,
appears strong and stoic but at the same time somber and delicate. The anatomic accuracy of Socrates
as well as the other characters provides a geometric structure. Whereas the light suspension of the
different fabrics in the painting provide a soft fluidity and these two

The population profile of Australia has created impacting changes to how health care in Australia is to

Clients with complex needs could be left to navigate the health care system on their own, due to
limited resources and over stretched health workforce (Charlesworth, 2015). The World Health
Organisation (WHO) has reported that many chronic diseases such as stroke, diabetes and heart
disease are preventable, creating a vast potential to develop a primary healthcare approach to address
these issues (World Health Organisation, 2013). Studies indicate that Australian indigenous
populations are over represented suffering with chronic diseases (Usher, 2011). In rural Indigenous
communities, the life expectancy is ten years less than the non indigenous populations, expressing the
inequity of a health system that cannot supply the skill share needed to promote health access or
provide comprehensive care to rural areas of Australia (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare,
2016).
Indigenous and Age related, Chronic and acute health issues within the rural communities are
intensified, and as workforce demand is not supported adequately on remote placements, the training
needed to support such placements, pinpoint that the personnel to population ratio is not sufficient.

Frank Sinatra Has A Cold Gay Talese Analysis
In his article, Frank Sinatra Has a Cold author Gay Talese writes an insightful retelling of the time
right before Frank Sinatra s fiftieth birthday. Talese was originally meant to write a profile on Sinatra,
but Sinatra refused, due to him being under the weather. Instead, Talese stayed in Los Angeles and
informally shadowed Sinatra. Observing the legend, and interviewing the men and women closest to
him, Talese wrote a more personal profile on the singer that lends itself to a more fictional tone. This
insight to Sinatra s life, and the way it was carefully molded Talese said that he interviewed at least a
hundred people and could spend days perfecting just a small set of phrases was very well received by
readers and critics all around. In the article, Talese uses all types of writing techniques from his
arsenal to make the text as exemplary as possible. These techniques include the use of figurative
language and characterization, symbolism, theme, and imagery. Gay Talese s use of figurative
language and characterization in the first few pages of his article assists his audience in having a better
apprehension of Frank Sinatra s personality, and the way that others regard him. In the end of the
second paragraph of the article, Talese reveals to the reader that Frank Sinatra has a cold. In the next
paragraph, he goes on to say, Sinatra with a cold is Picasso without paint, Ferrari without fuel only
worse. For the common cold robs Sinatra of that uninsurable jewel, his voice, cutting into the core of
his confidence (Talese). This passage offers an analogy explaining why Sinatra is almost helpless
without his voice. The passage compares Sinatra with a cold to Picasso without paint. Without paint,
Pablo Picasso could never express himself to the world. He would never have become the acclaimed
artist that he is known as today. Just as Picasso was characterized by his paint, Sinatra is characterized
by his rich voice. When this is taken away from him, he feels futile and adrift. In the paragraph
directly after, Talese alludes to Sinatra s ex wives and girlfriend: Nancy Sinatra, Ava Gardner, and Mia
Farrow, who would soon be his wife. On the topic of the three women, Talese writes:
Now he has the

Essay On Folic Acid In New Zealand
New Zealand s public health system is often considered to be on par with the world s best. Our social
welfare system cares for people without bankrupting them and we have a range of guidelines to ensure
that our food and resources are safe. However, it may be that we are failing in key areas of our health
system, particularly in the prevention of neural tube defects such as spina bifida. This failure may be
resulting in widespread and unnecessary suffering for the hundreds of New Zealanders that have been
inflicted with this needless and debilitating illness. Our government s inability to legislate the
supplementation of folic acid puts New Zealand behind the curve regarding health policy compared to
the rest of the world.

Another very serious NTD is anencephaly, in which infants are born with underdeveloped brains
and/or incomplete skulls and generally do not survive more than a few hours after birth. It is clear that
these horrific health outcomes need to be addressed with the utmost urgency.
Neural tube defects have a very negative impact on our society. Adding folic acid to our food will
have positive social implications because it will reduce the occurrence of babies diagnosed with
NTDs. Since the USA s mandatory fortification of folic acid in 1998, statistics have revealed that there
are approximately 1300 less NTD cases than pre fortification statistics indicated.10 This would
significantly benefit families who would instead have healthy babies, saving them the emotional
distress of having a child with an NTD and allowing them to live without the high demands and
healthcare costs involved with caring for a child with an NTD. This will also impact the wider society,
as babies with NTDs have a large impact on society due to the significant costs to the health and
disability sectors. A reduction in the number of babies requiring lifelong care will save society
millions of dollars and will greatly improve the quality of life of the babies themselves.
Organisations advocating for mandatory fortification in New Zealand include the Paediatric Society of
New Zealand and the New Zealand Medical Association. Approximately eighty

There are three kinds of sciences to look at: Pure, Applied, and Junk. Pure science defined as;
systematic observation of natural phenomena solely for the discovery of unknown laws relating to
facts; the study of science alone, not including its relations to other subjects (dicionary.com, 2018).
This science looks at facts that one derives from mathematics and logic; the natural science. The
second is Applied science. Applied science is: the discipline dealing with the art or science of applying

This stems from the stereotypes concerning male sex roles, sexual motivation, and sexual functioning.
In our society, sexual assault is a major social problem and researchers are beginning to delve more
into the topic. This is because there are significant psychological problems that happen after an
assault. One problem is that not much scientific research has been done that has been attentive to male
victims and their needs. The researchers hypothesized that a male victim of female sexual assault
would be judged as more likely to have encouraged or initiated the assault, less likely to be able to be
forced to have sex, more likely to have enjoyed the interaction because of the physical reaction, and
less likely to experience high stress from the event.
In order to demonstrate this bias, the study selected 77 male subjects and 89 female subjects from the
University of Washington s introductory level psychology courses who volunteered to participate in
this research. Each subject received a booklet containing two case descriptions and rating forms and
the true purpose of the study was concealed. The sex of the victim and sex of the assailants were
systematically varied in a 2 x 2 design. After the participants read the case, there was a Juror
Questionnaire designed to measure degree of responsibility and affective responses attributed to the
victim and assailants, as well as judgment of remorse and punitiveness toward the assailants.

Examples Of Censorship In America Today
Censorship is one of the most controversial topics in America today. It provides rules or discipline for
new technology. It covers music, video games, movies, plays, and the internet. Censorship is all
around us, but how has it affected our nation as a whole? Censorship is the suppression of words,
images, or ideas that are offensive, happens whenever some people succeed in imposing their personal
political or moral values on others. Censorship has existed in ancient societies, and was made to
prevent the wrong audiences from seeing things that were to mature. One of the most famous
examples was in 399BC when the philosopher Socrates was sentenced to drink poison for his
corruption of youth and his acknowledgement of unorthodox divinities. Another example is during the
15th century when the printing press was created, certain books or writings were not allowed to be ...

Today however it has become more controversial as new music and movies are coming to light. Some
disagree with the lyrics that are being said. An example is in 1988 when the music group N.W.A
released their 2nd album which featured the song F*** the Police. This song spread across the nation
and raised some eyebrows. While on tour the group was told by California police to not perform the
song at the next concert, however the group performed the song the police fired up the building and
the whole group was taken into custody. Many believed that the music was inappropriate and crossing
the line, but their lyrics expressed what their life was like in Compton. This is just one example of
how people think censorship should have even more of an effect on everyday life. Though the song
offended the police it was made to show the discrimination they had faced as individuals. Many did
not agree, but the group believed it was their God given right to express their beliefs and opinions

Salt Marsh Ecosystems On Earth
Introduction
Salt marsh ecosystems are among the most productive ecosystems on earth and provide numerous
ecosystem services (Ghorai Sen, 2015; Charles Dukes, 2009; Drociak, 2005). These services include
biofiltration, gas regulation, carbon and nutrient retention, and physical protection of coastlines from
storm surges and coastal flooding (Drociak, 2005; Sweat, 2009; FWC, 2016). Salt marshes act as
nurseries and ensure habitat and resources for unique flora, fauna, and microbial communities (Ghorai
Sen, 2015), including commercially and recreationally important species such as horseshoe crabs, fish,
and shellfish (FWC, 2016). Salt marsh plants also help trap nutrients, pollutants, and sediments, which
improves water quality offshore (FWC, 2016).
Many of the world s salt marsh habitats have also been lost over the last several centuries to filling,
draining, and diking (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008). New England has lost an estimated
one third of its salt marshes since 1777 (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008; Bromberg and
Bertness, 2005) as a result of diking, railroads and road construction, levee building and other
purposes (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008). While the diking and impoundment of the salt
marshes created more area for development, the ecological structure, as well as the benefits and
ecological services the salt marshes provided, were eliminated in the process (Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institute, 2008; Thelen, 2009). This

Causality, Hume, and Quantum Mechanics Essay
Causality, Hume, and Quantum Mechanics
It is my intention, in the course of this essay, to take the work of David Hume and reapply it to
causality using quantum mechanical theory.
When I refer to causality, I am referring to the belief that events have a relationship of action A
causing action B where A is considered to be the final cause of B. I also refer to the belief that we can
know and understand these causal relationships and thusly know how the system works.
This is a concept that I do not agree with. This mechanistic causality, I feel, is a category of the mind.
I wish to make it clear, before I begin, that I am not questioning the idea that cause/effect interactions
do occur in reality. I am, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of saying, I dropped the egg, it broke because of that action, one would say or think, The event
of the egg breaking is an event preceded by an acceleration downward toward the floor. That event is
preceded by a slip of my hand, or some external force. The event of the slip is preceded by a
distracting thought and/or a moistening of my hand from contact with a wet surface, or by neither
event. The event of the distracting thought being preceded by a memory of meeting an attractive
person and/or having too much coffee, or by neither event. The event of the moist hand being
preceded by failing to wipe the counter properly and/or inadequate drying of my hands, or by neither
event. To be thorough, each of these strings of events would have to be traced back through each
branch and go back until one finally reaches the beginning of each string of events, the beginning of
the universe, if there is one.
But even this examination of events is not sufficient to describe all that goes on in this event. Each
portion of the causal mechanism is divisible within itself into internal causes.
Take the slip of the hand as an example. Some internal firing of neurons resulted in the slip of the
hand. To be thorough, we

Trace My Family History
I was able to trace my family history as far back as my Great grandparents on my mother s side. I
learned some very interesting and shocking facts about their lives and the struggles they had to endure.
My Great grandparents adoptive my mother and twin sister at the age 2 because their parents were
unable to care for them properly. They welcomed them with open arms and raised both of them as if
they were their own. My Great grandfather was named James Allen Barnes, he was one of 5 sibling
who was born in March of 1913. My Great grandmother was named Miriam Etta Troxler, she was one
of 4 sisters who was born in December 1915. James and Miriam were both born in Greensboro, N.C.
My Great grandparents both had suffered great loses at very young ages that would change their lives
overnight. James and Miriam fathers who names we do not know were shot on accident during a
hunting trip and died. Their fathers were not on the same hunting trip and did not know each other.
After the deaths of their fathers, James had to quit school at the age of 15 to help his mother pay bills
by delivering newspapers and Miriam and her sisters were split up to live in different homes. The
main reason Miriam and her sisters were separated was due her mother not being able to support all
the girls on her own. Miriam never saw or heard from her sisters ever again. Both families struggled
tremendously during The Great Depression. During a dance in 1930 the two met and were married at

The Club Essay
When the club opens at eight, it s almost unrecognisable. Two large men dressed in black suits guard
the entrance, they seem friendly enough, but I m told they have a mean streak when provoked. Two
blonde twin girls sit in the kiosk, waiting to sell tickets and collect coats. A sea of people, a variety of
shapes and sizes, fill the once empty room to capacity.
Derrick, the angry barman, remains behind the bar accompanied by two companions; another man,
and a woman. Even though all three wear the same uniform, they re entirely different to one another.

My heart flutters like a hummingbird in my chest, my breath becomes heavy, making me dizzy almost.
My eyes flutter closed as I lose myself in this moment with Angelo.
All too soon I hear my name being called, freeing me from captivity. I snap my eyes open to see
Frankie standing on the stage, holding his hand out towards me. I turn to face Angelo, who gazes at

The crowd parts, allowing me access towards the stage. As I did earlier, I hold onto the rail as I ascend

terrifying prospect than earlier, only singing for Angelo.

Computer Aided Dermatology
The different methods that fall under computer aided diagnosis are more variable in diagnosing
different attributes of melanoma as opposed to physicians. In computer diagnosis, patients are able to
undergo several, but not all types of noninvasive diagnoses such as teledermatology, mole mapping
and monitoring, automated diagnosis of melanoma, computer vision for automatic diagnosis of
melanoma, computer vision for noninvasive measurement of the depth of melanomas, and confocal
microscopy of histopathology. (Elbaum, 2002) With the variability in types of diagnoses, individuals
have the ability to choose what they want view and analyze in regards to their skin, whereas
physicians are limited by the methods they utilize (ABCDE, Ugly Duckling, ... Show more content on

A popular technique utilized by dermatologists to diagnose melanoma includes dermoscopy, which is
a noninvasive technique for taking high resolution images of skin lesions by making the superficial
layers of the skin translucent. (Dreiseitl, Binder, Hable, Kittler, 2009) Dermoscopy is a technique that
allows dermatologists to view lesions and moles at a larger magnitude yielding to a more accurate
diagnosis through the ABCDE method and Glasgow 7 point checklist. While dermoscopy has aided
physicians in accurately diagnosing melanoma, computer aided dermoscopy has been proven to have
higher accuracy in diagnosing patients. In one study, expert physicians scored a sensitivity of 81% and
specificity of 95%, whereas the computer aided dermoscopy scored 93% on sensitivity and 95%
specificity. (Barzegari, Ghaninezhad, Mansoori, Taheri, Naraghi, Asgari, 2005) The high sensitivity
and specificity of the computer diagnosis is the result of the lack of bias computers have in
comparison to physicians and dermatologists. In computer aided dermoscopy, the computer compares
the patient s lesions and moles to a database of previously recorded and imputed parameters. Thus,
computer diagnosis is accurate to the extent of the set parameters and is reproducible in results as
opposed to trained physicians who have variable ranges for specificity and sensitivity due to bias.
Similarly, in the dermoscopy of small lesions, expert dermatologists scored an average of 71%
sensitivity and 49% specificity whereas the computer vision system achieved 98% sensitivity and 44%
specificity. (Friedman, Gutkowicz Krusin, Farber, Warycha, Schneider Kels, Papastathis, Mihm, King,

This book talks about how recent genetic evidence form new discoveries have traced the birth of

the one having the most effect being the travel and economic embargo placed on the island nation.
This occurred shortly after Fidel Castro s entrance into power, mainly on his decision to nationalize
private US oil companies. The embargo that has been in place for more than 54 years has not only
been widely rejected globally, due to its effect on the island s economy which has led to a reduction in
the quality of life of many working class Cubans and its effect it has had on the establishment of the

  • 2. Injustice And Social Injustices Introduction Though the concept of social injustice is universal in nature, the experience varies with each person. Factors like a person race, or gender can further influence the severity of the injustice; victims caught in the overlap between discriminations often go unrecognized by the law and society. Many people recognize the names Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice as African Americans who were murdered by local police. But names like Michelle Cusseaux, Tanish Anderson, and Meagan Hockaday often receive less feedback even though they are also murdered African Americans. The only distinction between the sets of names is gender. Even within racial injustice, discrimination is present between genders as some cases get national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a publication titled Black Women in Academe , author Yolanda Moses describes how isolation, invisibility, hostility, indifference, and a lack of understanding of the Black women s experiences are all too often part of the climate Black women may face on campuses (Moses, 1989). The detrimental environment surrounding these women frequently results in sullenness, lack of social assertiveness, and belief that they are less competent than male students. Even if time spent at an academic institution is minimal, with this kind of prejudice faced at an early age, any woman black or otherwise, would suffer the rest of their life. In response to the discrimination faced at universities, some have created programs to aid black students and other minorities; these programs tend to generalize the needs of all its black students and do not fully support black women specifically. Double discrimination and its effects are not only seen in academe. Social injustice occurs in any situation where people are treated unequally and includes discrimination and racism. For much of the twentieth century, crime and punishment have provided some of the most powerful symbols of racial divide in America (Rosich, 2007). Generally tried in a white dominated legal system, black victims often face harsher punishment, longer sentences, and unfair trials. Rosich s research indicates that white Americans widely believe that people of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Designing A Successful Training Program In order to create a successful training program, ConAgra Foods has to have analyzed their organization, personnel, and tasks to ensure what kind of training is necessary. After, assessing the organization s needs, it s clear ConAgra Foods main objective for its new training program is to focus on providing its sales team with new skills; so every one of its salespeople know their product lines and customers so well they can serve as trusted advisors (Noe et al., 202). This means each employee needs to be trained in understanding financial data and how sales affect ConAgra s profits. To accomplish this goal, the company has opened up a system to share training resources in hopes of meeting each individual s needs. To track employee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, by being able to track progress all the way through the program, a manager can see what training methods were beneficial and areas which may need to be improved. When developing the training program, the company planned well for ways to measure the results. This truly gives ConAgra a competitive advantage over companies who do not evaluate their training methods. ConAgra decided to expand their training efforts to include the first line supervisors, because these members may not have had a chance to practice how to become a leader of individuals and teams. The purpose of the training program was to have its supervisors understand what is involved in being a leader at ConAgra Foods so their groups can provide better results (Noe et al., 202). To track the success of the members, employee surveys were used to add feedback and develop new training procedures where improvement was needed. Overall, the program proved to have decreased employee turnover. Economically speaking, the results proved to have saved the company roughly $116,100 for every class of 28 supervisors trained (Noe et al., 202). According to the company website, when comparing 600 trained and 1,600 untrained supervisors...Those who went through the training also were nearly twice as likely to be promoted (ConAgra Brands). • 4. My Music Experience As a young boy, I have always had an interest in Music. When my family would go on trips and vacations out of state I would listen to music on the car radio and try to memorize all the lyrics, rhythms, tempos, and distinct sounds of the instruments. The first music experience was at the elementary M.E Pearson. When you got to the Fourth grade, the school allowed students to participate in orchestra and gave them the opportunity to learn how to play certain instruments. As I walked into that small trailer and heard the sounds, saw the articulation and how everyone moved as one. I was flabbergasted and knew instantly this is want I wanted to do. Starting Orchestra, I was horrible and I didn t learn how to properly play my first instrument, the cello, until the beginning of sixth grade. As much as I was horrible, orchestra was a positive impact on my life and pushed me to achieve goals. Going down the hall past Mr. Curry s class, bubble and bumpers, and patiently waiting outside the orchestra room at M.E Pearson Elementary were the highlights of each day from fourth to fifth grade. During that time of practice our class would practice articulation, posture, and how to read notes until the bell rang and would let the school know it was time to go home. As boring as it got sometimes, I was always filled with joy and prepared for orchestra the next day. The first time trying out for State was the most intense experience I ever had. Out of all the experiences I have created with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Was The Pope Called For The Crusades THESIS: The leaders of the Roman Catholic Church proposed The Crusades as a mission for religious integrity but they were actually intended as a way to gain power for the Pope.. Consequently, over time, even the Crusaders, who initially believed in the religious mission, shifted their motivation from religious devotion to greed and vengeance. The Pope called for the Crusades to manipulate the people of the West. The Crusades were not the result of religious devotion, rather, they were the only way the Roman Catholic Church could effectively achieve what they wanted. To start, there was no clear religious control, ...If the Pope could muster a large army against the enemies of Christianity, his claim to be leader of Christian society in the West would be strengthened. If the Pope called for the Crusades, he would gain the authority and the respect he wanted to control the population. Additionally, the Churches did not have a high level of integrity. With the new twitter update which allows that creation of polls that users can vote in, countless accounts have been created to poke fun at someone s personality or looks, this is what is called cyberbullying, and it happens each and everyday. Cyberbullying is a problem that affects more than one fourth of adolescents in middle school and high school. With the growth of technology it has become more imperative to implement programs in schools to help solve this problem. Today, teenagers rely more on the internet, and other technologies to keep in touch with their friends, and social lives. They are on all sorts of social media platforms such as facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat and so much more. Nowadays when you go to a business to apply for a job, they tell you to go online to their website and apply there. Being digitally literate also relates to the everyday things that we do such as reading the newspaper or a magazine or even writing a letter. Most newspapers and magazines can be found online today and that can make things easier for us in our day to day lives. World leaders have long been recognising the huge economic advantages that a booming tourism industry can bring to their nations, and vast amounts of money have been invested set up the infrastructure to support such an industry. However, aside from the large economic advantages to the industry, there are inevitably negative impacts to the host nation and the world as a whole. These negative impacts usually materialise in the form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is widely believed that this continuing construction work around the coastal areas is the biggest problem in terms of coral destruction; Nipon Pongsuwan of the Phuket Marine Biological Centre backs this argument up by saying sludge and debris washed into the sea from building work across the island was the main factor responsible for the reef destruction (cited in CDDN, 2004). The sludge and sediment deposited in the water contributes the ruin of the reef by blocking out the sun s rays to the bottom of the sea, and preventing the algae from photosynthesising which in turn leads to the bleaching of the coral. Thailand s coastline, in particular around the low lying river estuaries, is primarily made up of mangrove forests. Over the previous year s Thailand has seen a major decrease in its mangrove land. This can be attributed to several things; tourism being one of them (Poonnachit Korsieporn, 2000). Where coastal land is in high demand, many of the mangrove trees are ripped out to create the space for building hotels and tourist complexes. Mangrove forests are a major world ecosystem in themselves that provide a home to many species of animal; such as shrimp and different varieties of ape, so obviously the declining mangrove forests alone are a negative environmental impact of tourism. However, this deforestation also creates issues for the coral reefs. Mangroves act as natural barrier to the sea; they prevent the erosion of the coast and stop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Death Of Socrates Resides The Death of Socrates resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is by Jacques Louis David, a French painter from the eighteenth century. This particular piece was done in 1787 about an event that occurred 399 BC. Socrates was faced with a legal decision to renounce his teachings or drink a cup of hemlock, killing himself. Socrates s teachings were hugely influential in Greece at that time and it sparked recognizable change in Athens particularly. Athenian authority saw his revolutionary thought as a threat and because of his teaching he refused to renounce his teaching. Even without this knowing the dramatic story of the great thinker and his demise, David s piece is profoundly striking. The movement and placement of each character as well as the balance of shape and color provide a certain attraction to this piece. Additionally, it provides a great example of the intriguing cross between art and The Academy. David intelligently pays tribute to the height and power of ancient philosophy as well as modern art and this marriage makes for a greatly impactful piece of art. At first impression, the movement and layout are the most arresting part of this piece. Socrates, propped up on his deathbed, appears strong and stoic but at the same time somber and delicate. The anatomic accuracy of Socrates as well as the other characters provides a geometric structure. Whereas the light suspension of the different fabrics in the painting provide a soft fluidity and these two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frank Sinatra Has A Cold Gay Talese Analysis In his article, Frank Sinatra Has a Cold author Gay Talese writes an insightful retelling of the time right before Frank Sinatra s fiftieth birthday. Talese was originally meant to write a profile on Sinatra, but Sinatra refused, due to him being under the weather. Instead, Talese stayed in Los Angeles and informally shadowed Sinatra. Observing the legend, and interviewing the men and women closest to him, Talese wrote a more personal profile on the singer that lends itself to a more fictional tone. This insight to Sinatra s life, and the way it was carefully molded Talese said that he interviewed at least a hundred people and could spend days perfecting just a small set of phrases was very well received by readers and critics all around. In the article, Talese uses all types of writing techniques from his arsenal to make the text as exemplary as possible. These techniques include the use of figurative language and characterization, symbolism, theme, and imagery. Gay Talese s use of figurative language and characterization in the first few pages of his article assists his audience in having a better apprehension of Frank Sinatra s personality, and the way that others regard him. In the end of the second paragraph of the article, Talese reveals to the reader that Frank Sinatra has a cold. In the next paragraph, he goes on to say, Sinatra with a cold is Picasso without paint, Ferrari without fuel only worse. For the common cold robs Sinatra of that uninsurable jewel, his voice, cutting into the core of his confidence (Talese). This passage offers an analogy explaining why Sinatra is almost helpless without his voice. The passage compares Sinatra with a cold to Picasso without paint. Without paint, Pablo Picasso could never express himself to the world. He would never have become the acclaimed artist that he is known as today. Just as Picasso was characterized by his paint, Sinatra is characterized by his rich voice. When this is taken away from him, he feels futile and adrift. In the paragraph directly after, Talese alludes to Sinatra s ex wives and girlfriend: Nancy Sinatra, Ava Gardner, and Mia Farrow, who would soon be his wife. This will also impact the wider society, as babies with NTDs have a large impact on society due to the significant costs to the health and disability sectors. The researchers hypothesized that a male victim of female sexual assault would be judged as more likely to have encouraged or initiated the assault, less likely to be able to be forced to have sex, more likely to have enjoyed the interaction because of the physical reaction, and less likely to experience high stress from the event. Salt Marsh Ecosystems On Earth Introduction Salt marsh ecosystems are among the most productive ecosystems on earth and provide numerous ecosystem services (Ghorai Sen, 2015; Charles Dukes, 2009; Drociak, 2005). These services include biofiltration, gas regulation, carbon and nutrient retention, and physical protection of coastlines from storm surges and coastal flooding (Drociak, 2005; Sweat, 2009; FWC, 2016). Salt marshes act as nurseries and ensure habitat and resources for unique flora, fauna, and microbial communities (Ghorai Sen, 2015), including commercially and recreationally important species such as horseshoe crabs, fish, and shellfish (FWC, 2016). Salt marsh plants also help trap nutrients, pollutants, and sediments, which improves water quality offshore (FWC, 2016). Many of the world s salt marsh habitats have also been lost over the last several centuries to filling, draining, and diking (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008). New England has lost an estimated one third of its salt marshes since 1777 (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008; Bromberg and Bertness, 2005) as a result of diking, railroads and road construction, levee building and other purposes (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008). While the diking and impoundment of the salt marshes created more area for development, the ecological structure, as well as the benefits and ecological services the salt marshes provided, were eliminated in the process (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008; Thelen, 2009). In computer diagnosis, patients are able to undergo several, but not all types of noninvasive diagnoses such as teledermatology, mole mapping and monitoring, automated diagnosis of melanoma, computer vision for automatic diagnosis of melanoma, computer vision for noninvasive measurement of the depth of melanomas, and confocal microscopy of histopathology. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A popular technique utilized by dermatologists to diagnose melanoma includes dermoscopy, which is a noninvasive technique for taking high resolution images of skin lesions by making the superficial layers of the skin translucent. (Dreiseitl, Binder, Hable, Kittler, 2009) Dermoscopy is a technique that allows dermatologists to view lesions and moles at a larger magnitude yielding to a more accurate diagnosis through the ABCDE method and Glasgow 7 point checklist. While dermoscopy has aided physicians in accurately diagnosing melanoma, computer aided dermoscopy has been proven to have higher accuracy in diagnosing patients. In one study, expert physicians scored a sensitivity of 81% and specificity of 95%, whereas the computer aided dermoscopy scored 93% on sensitivity and 95% specificity. (Barzegari, Ghaninezhad, Mansoori, Taheri, Naraghi, Asgari, 2005) The high sensitivity and specificity of the computer diagnosis is the result of the lack of bias computers have in comparison to physicians and dermatologists. In computer aided dermoscopy, the computer compares the patient s lesions and moles to a database of previously recorded and imputed parameters. Thus, computer diagnosis is accurate to the extent of the set parameters and is reproducible in results as opposed to trained physicians who have variable ranges for specificity and sensitivity due to bias. Similarly, in the dermoscopy of small lesions, expert dermatologists scored an average of 71% sensitivity and 49% specificity whereas the computer vision system achieved 98% sensitivity and 44% specificity. (Friedman, Gutkowicz Krusin, Farber, Warycha, Schneider Kels, Papastathis, Mihm, King, Prieto, Kopf, Polsky, Rabinovitz, Oliviero, Cognetta, Rigel, Marghoob, Rivers, Johr, Grant Kels, Tsao, 2008) Especially in smaller lesions, the computer vision system had a relatively ...
