This document summarizes an Asian Development Bank project from 2007-2009 that trained facilitators and promoted AIDS competence in 6 Asian countries. The project used a strength-based approach to empower over 500 communities to address HIV/AIDS issues themselves. Key aspects included stimulating and supporting community responses, focusing on community strengths rather than needs, and facilitating community ownership through techniques like dream building and self-assessment. Feedback from communities and facilitators suggested the approach was effective in promoting sharing, ownership, and sustainable responses to HIV/AIDS.
