This document summarizes information about African swine fever (ASF) in Bihar, India. It describes ASF as a highly contagious and deadly viral disease affecting pigs. The first reported case in Bihar occurred in 2022 in Saran district. Control measures include culling and burying infected and exposed pigs within a 1 km infected zone, movement restrictions and surveillance within a 10 km zone, and monitoring but no restrictions in disease-free areas outside that. Proper disposal and sanitization procedures are followed. ASF cannot be differentiated from other pig diseases without testing and there is no vaccination or cure currently available.
