Dilemma of complex problems
ASE solution approach
The ASE is an innovative method to solve complex problems faster and achieve
sustainable implementation
2
Solutions with an ASE
The ASE approach represents the synthesis of a creative
environment, extensive content preparation and an effective
working process for large groups of up to 50 participants1
 Equipped with the latest technologies, the exceptional
environment of the ASE centres promotes creativity and
constructive teamwork among all participants and can be flexibly
used to organise an effective collaboration. To break new ground
when finding solutions, we deliberately avoid the traditional
office and workshop atmosphere
 All information needed for solution finding as well as the
knowledge and experience of all relevant decision makers,
experts and multipliers come together in an ASE event. This
ensures high decision quality
 Within the scope of the ASE-method Scan-Focus-Act, solutions
are developed simultaneously and within several iterations. Our
technology partners can be included in this process, for example
to visualize or discuss special innovations. In addition to
mobilising all parties, the ASE process significantly increases
speed – both in the planning phase and during the
implementation
The complexity of the issues that must be resolved has strongly
increased and demands experts’ involvement in ever more
specialised disciplines
As a result, frequently the only choice is between…
 … making quick (top management) decisions
Risk: false compromises, accepting gaps, widespread lack of
commitment during the implementation
Result: Speed at the cost of the quality of the decisions
 … an intensive and sequential involvement of many participants
and long coordination cycles
Risk: Loss of momentum for the implementation
Result: High-quality decisions at the cost of speed
In both cases, participants as well as stakeholders may
disengage from the process
1 Even larger groups possible, e.g. 150 participants
ASE results
In ASE events all key stakeholders simultaneously develop a realistic solution that is based
on the broad acceptance and alignment of all participants
3
Acceleration
 Significantly shortened coordination cycles as all important
topics are consolidated at one point in time
 Noticeable acceleration of the implementation by months
compared to conventional decision processes as solutions
are actively co-designed: reduction of potential resistance
Quality
 Realistic solutions based on broad alignment ensure the
implementation later on
 Best possible decision quality through profound analysis and
involvement of all relevant deciders, experts, and
stakeholders
Alignment and commitment
 Acceptance of the jointly developed solution by all decision
makers and multipliers
 Broad enthusiasm, willingness to change and implement:
Alignment of all participants through highly productive
teamwork
Secure investments
 The real-time visualisation of prototypical solutions ensures
a common ground for discussion and facilitates the joint
definition of priorities between business and IT, thus
safeguarding investments.
ASE environment and -team
Ideally, ASE events are conducted in the ASE center in Berlin, but mobile ASE workshops
are feasible, too

variations of the interior set up
 Creative and inspiring –

ASE process
All participants jointly go through the same proven process which consists of three phases:
Scan, Focus and Act
6
The overarching alignment on the solutions ensures the employees’
strong motivation during the implementation.
 Understand project context
 Learn from experts (trends,
best-practices, innovations etc.)
 Change perspectives and
discuss project inputs
 Common understanding of
issues
 Teambuilding
 Simulations/
scenarios: ‘what if’
 Develop and consolidate first
ideas
 Iterate and improve the
quality and robustness of the
solutions
 Test solution proposals/
visualize prototypes
 Evaluate and eliminate options
 Discuss priorities and proposed
decisions
 Make decisions
 Develop short-/ mid-/ long-term
activity plans
 Roadmap for the (digital)
transformation
 Joint commitment for
implementation
What do we need to KNOW? What CAN we do? What WILL we do?
Project indications for an ASE
The employment of the ASE method is especially useful when a project is under time
pressure, is of high priority, faces complex problems or seeks for creative solutions
7
Significant time pressure within project
 External and/ or internal deadlines
 Benefits case for an implementation
 New business trends demanding fast response
Top priority or hot issue
 Senior attention for the problem within the organisation
 Importance of assigning a budget to find a solution
 High expectations of implementable results
Complexity of issues/ broad alignment required
 Large group of stakeholders for decision finding
 Collaboration of many areas required, broad alignment
and agreement of different functions necessary
 Solution impact on many business units
Creativity required/ desired to find the solution
 Company shows willingness to design current workflows
more innovatively and to act differently from in the past
 Company/ group has not yet been able to find a solution
through traditional facilitation and is open for new
concepts
 Company strategy
 Growth strategy
 IT strategy

Clients‘ comments on ASE
An ASE delivers fast but also realistic solutions based on broad alignment among
all participants
9
„The ASE is a very useful tool to rapidly generate
very precise results, which participants will buy into
and commit to implementing.“
Sven-Torsten Huster (CIO & COO Volkswagen Financial
Services AG)
„In the ASE you can achieve results that
otherwise would have taken you 4-6 months, if
you managed to achieve them at all…“
Dr. Manfred Knof (CEO Allianz Suisse)
„The ASE workshop’s inspiring atmosphere and the
dynamic way of working led us to achieving relevant
results in a very short amount of time.“
Dietmar Meister (CEO & CFO AMB Generali)
„An intensive experience and an excellent way to
bring together the various people and skills to
come to solutions for complex problems in a
condensed timeframe!”
Oliver Morbach (Executive Vice President, Customer
Service, T−Mobile International)
„A very useful concept, especially for transformation
processes, that enables employees to shape this process
by actively collaborating.“
Dr. Bernd Kottmann (Finanzvorstand IVG Immobilien AG)
„The ASE workshop was an outstanding event that enabled our team
to achieve global agreement of our system design. As I look back over
the months since the event, I realize we would not have global
alignment and understanding with our business leaders without the
ASE workshop.“
Pamela Dow (Executive Director JCI)
