Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) have evolved significantly from early experiments in the 19th century. AR enhances the real world with digital elements while VR fully immerses users in simulated environments. Key applications of AR today include interior design, education, retail, assembly, and service sectors. VR has major applications in healthcare training, entertainment, military/space training, architecture, and tourism. Both technologies are expected to continue advancing and become more mainstream within the next five years, potentially leading to an immersive "metaverse" experience.
