The photo above shows the well-known comic character Iron Man. The first drawing is
hand-drawn, while the second one is digitally drawn. Before the artist create his/her art, the
building blocks of art should be taken in consideration. Art elements, principles and
processes should be present in any form of art.
5. Before the widespread introduction of new technologies, most artist
expressed their creative ideas through paper and pen but at present
designs, many now create symbols directly through digital process.

7. What is Comic Art?
Comic art is the creation of stylized or simplified drawings
for the purpose of telling a story, asking a point or making
people laugh.
One good example of a comic art is a Cartoon.
Many of us are highly motivated by the idea of cartoons for
fun. They amaze and entertain us to no end. We are familiar
with many cartoons mainly because of their characters. We
simply love how they become the mediums to tell jokes or
share opinions about life and its endless interesting
situations.
Cartoon is a form of visual communication that
became popular with the invention of modern newspaper
and motion picture in the 20th century. A cartoon is as old as
man. The earliest example of a cartoon can be found in
caves.
Cartoonist is a person who makes cartoon
characters.
8. Elements of Art involved in Comic Art.
The cartoonist uses art elements and combines them in different
ways to create a unique piece of art. The elements of art are like the ingredients
in a recipe.
Line – a path created by a moving point, mark or object. Line can be straight,
wavy, broken, thick, thin, curve, horizontal, vertical and etc.
Shape – is a two dimensional (2D), flat enclosed area when a line crosses over
itself it creates a shape.
Color – the element of art derived from reflected or absorbed light. Color adds
interest and mood to a work of art. It is also referred to as “hue”
Texture – how something feels or looks like it would feel if you could touch it.
Form – objects having three dimensions (3D), or height, width and depth. You
can walk around a form.
Value – the lightness or darkness of an object the effect of light and shade in a
picture.
Space – element of art that refers to the emptiness or area around or with the
objects.

Art.
Emphasis - is a way of using elements to stress a certain
area in an artwork.
Example is emphasizing the size of the eyes of
the cartoon character to show its emotions.
Balance - is concerned with the visual distribution or
weight of elements in a work of art.
Example is how the face of a cartoon
character is balanced from one side to another.
10. Processes of Art involved in Comic
Art.
Digital drawing - is a process of art that
uses new technology such as computer or
drawing tablets in creating them.
Hand drawing – is an art process of
expressing art in a form of pen and paper.

either the hand-drawn or digital-drawing. Always keep in mind the elements and
principles of art. You will draw your favorite cartoon character.
