Broaden Your Understanding
Design is like art, but it is art with a purpose in mind. This purpose can be the creation of a
product that we use or a plan or sketch that we intend to do. Design has commercial value in them
that is important in business and industry.

Work on Art
Activity I Computer Art: ASCII Art
Materials: Computer, cellphone or tablet
ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses computers for presentation and consists of
pictures pieced together different letters and symbols from the computer and cellphones. The term is also
loosely used to refer to text-based visual art in general.
Old typewriters can also be used to create these works of art.
Commercial art, often called advertising art,
is used to sell goods and services. It is different from
fine art, which exists for its own sake. There are a
few specific careers one can pursue in commercial
art, and many of these require the completion of a
degree program in commercial art or a similar area.
Commercial art applies artistic principles to a
variety of fields. Commercial artists design
advertisements, logos, billboards, brochures, book
covers, product packaging and other similar artwork.
Their work is often used to sell, promote, explain,
narrate and inform. Commercial artists are typically
employed by advertising agencies, newspapers,
magazines, graphic design firms, television studios
and similar businesses. (Source:www.google.com)
Examples of ASCII art
Procedure:
1. Using only letters and symbols found on your computer software (MS Word, MS Excel, Ms
Powerpoint, etc), cellphone or tablet, create any image of your choice.
2. If you are using a computer software, play with different sizes or font presentation (bold or italics) to
create varying images of the same design.
If you are using your cellphone, fill-up the screen with letters or symbols and leave-out spaces to
create your image like the Albert Einstein image above.
If you are having a hard time looking for an inspiration, why not create an ASCII art of your name?
What is important is you can create an art using the technology that you have in your hand.
Was it easy to create your design?
Craft Creativeness
If having a computer, cellphone or tablet, may serve as a challenge, you may get the simple
concept of computer art through pixel art.
A pixel is the basic unit of a computer graphics. It is made up of only one shape, a square, and one
specific color. Combining all pixels can create powerful images of art and even film.
Materials: graphing papers, pencils, crayons or any coloring materials.
><}}}0>
<0{{{><
Procedures:
1. Draw your design lightly on the graphing paper.
2. Fill in the boxes with the color of your choice to create the image of your design.
3. To make it an authentic pixel art follow the:
The Simple Rules of Creating a Pixel Art by Hand
1. One box, one color.
2. There are no half colored boxes.
3. Curves are interpreted like stairs. Look at batman logo.
4. To achieve shadow or color transition, use one color lighter or darker.
If there are no available pieces of graphing paper. You may create the boxes using a ruler
and a pencil.
Set the box size to a comfortable measurement unit: 10 mm or 1 cm and then follow the
given instructions above.
Was it easy to create your art?
Another alternative activity that still follow the ASCII Art is using your own hand writing to
draw an image of your choice. However, instead of straight lines, you are only limited to the entire
Alphabet, Numbers and only these following symbols ( ) , + : - > < ? / = @ # * ^ { } [ ]
Materials: Bond paper, colored pens or pencils or ballpens
1. Create any image of your choice using only the prescribed characters above.
2. Use different colors to make your work very colorful.

How do you find your hand-drawn ASCII Art inspired work?
Broaden Your Understanding
Have you ever heard of the word Design?
Design is the conceptualization and creation of new things like books, posters, products, places,
signs, systems, services, furniture, websites, and more. It is like very much like art but it is art with a
purpose in mind. This purpose is often associated with commercial value of a concept or a creation since
these things are often made to be sold and use. Thus, it must be well-thought off, well-made and attractive
that its users will notice it and buy it. Commercial art follows the concept of design.
Have you noted the similarities and the distinct difference of Art and Design?
The creation of an art work needs to be well-thought of, well-made and attractive so that other
people will appreciate it and buy it. It is like design as defined above but the difference is the product will be
used after it is bought while an art work remains only to be appreciated and not used. Another similarity
worth knowing is that since design is like art, it also follows the same elements and principles. We already
learned that by properly using these elements and principles of art, we can create works of art that will that
have better aesthetics or beauty in them. Again, the only added value in design compared to art is its
purpose and use.

(Week 3)
Activity 1 – Application of Software (Inkscape)
Materials: Laptop/desktop
Follow this procedure if Inkscape software is not available
1. Download Inkscape software
Step 1: Go to https://inkscape.org/en/.
Step 2: Click download.
Step 3: Choose your Operating System (Windows, Mac,
Linux, etc.).
Step 4: Click installer.exe (32-bit or 64 –bit).
Step 5: Wait for it to download.
The art of making a good hand drawn logo design starts with sketches of the style you
may want to do before executing the design in a more accurate manner using a ruler,
a compass for round shapes, and other measuring tools.
Lines play the most vital part of the design as it forms the letter and shape, but also
the way it is drawn has a bearing to the message your logo is showing. Thick lines
make the logo appear closer and create strong visual impact, but may be too heavy for
the eyes. Thin lines on the other hand make the logo appear from behind create
details that may be pleasing to the eyes but may be too much that the logo gets lost
with the details. As mentioned, in creating the perfect logo: less is more.

Step 6: Run inkscape-0.92.1.exe.
Step 7: keep clicking ‘Next’.
Step 8: Inkscape will run automatically.
2. Show Inkscape software’s homepage to pupils
3. Familiarize pupils with the menus and commands of
inkscape software

Activity 2 – Alternative Drawing Technique of Logo Making
Materials: paper, pencil, sign pen/colored pen, permanent marker and any coloring media
Using your pencil, create the font that you like. You may follow a template of letters
or create your own style but consider the spaces between your letters and the visual
balance of your free handwork. Don’t worry if you drew may pencil guidelines as you will be
erasing it after you have inked your work.
Use your sign pen or colored pen to enhance your line. You may also add a few
more details with your sign pen. If you create a mistake you may cover it with a correction
tape or masking fluid
The last part is coloring your work.
It will be best that you explain your work to your teacher and classmates why the
logo you did reflects who you are. Why did you use that kind of font and color. If there are
images, what do they symbolize?

Inkscape was formed in 2003 by four active Sodipodi developers, Bryce Harrington,
MenTaLguY, Nathan Hurst, and Ted Gould, wanting to take a different direction with
the codebase in terms of focus on SVG compliance, interface look-and-feel, and a
desire to open development opportunities to more participants. The codebase that
would become Inkscape began life in 1999 as the program Gill, the GNOME
Illustrator application, created by Raph Levien. The stated objective for Gill was to
eventually support all of SVG. Raph implemented the PostScript bezier imaging
model, including stroking and filling, line cap style, line join style, text, etc. Raph's
Gill page is at http://www.levien.com/svg/. Work on Gill appears to have slowed or
ceased in 2000.
The next incarnation of the codebase was to become the highly popular program
Sodipodi, led by Lauris Kaplinski. The codebase was turned into a powerful
illustration program over the course of several year's work, adding several new
features, multi-lingual support, porting to Windows and other operating systems,
and eliminating dependencies.
ACTIVITY SHEET
(Week 4)
A logo can give your company an easily recognized visual symbol and
may give the impression of the quality that your company is promoting. A
picture is indeed worth a thousand words. The use of contrast between the
space (positive and negative) color (dark and light) and shape (big and
small), conveys meanings and visual representation.
Activity 1 - Using the Inkscape Software, MS Word or Paint
Theme: Creating a Logo for Your Group
1. The teacher will divide the class into 5 groups.
2. Each group will make an image based logo design that will represent
their group characteristics.
3. The elements of arts and principles should be visible to the design.
4. Ask a member of the group to convey the meaning of their design.
Remind the pupils to keep their work and apply the principles of
contrast.
Activity 2 – Creating an Image Based Logo
Alternative Activity for no Computer:
Materials: pencils, oslo paper, colored pencils, rulers, and sample logo
illustrations
Theme: Create a logo for your Class
Part I: Free Hand Drawing Design
1. Look for an object that best describes your class.
2. Sketch the object in different styles and ways. Try to apply the leave
out technique and contrast in terms of shape or form if you are
combining two images.
3. Finalize the image you want to do and start applying different
contrasting colors to it.
Part II: Finalize Design
1. Redo your logo but this time apply proper measurement and distance
and balance in your drawing using measuring tools.
2. Ink your work by covering all pencil marks on the shape. Erase
guidelines or unnecessary lines.
3. Color or paint your work using any color media you have.
Alternative Activity 2
Creating Image Based Design Using Pixel
Materials: graphic papers, pencils, colored pencils
Give the simple rules of creating a pixel art by hand.
1. One box; one color.
2. There are no half-colored boxes.
3. Curves are interpreted like stairs. Look at Captain America’s shield.
4. To achieve shadow or color transition, use one color lighter or darker.
Show an example:
1. Create an image-based design using pixel for yourself.
2. Be sure to convey your personality in your image.
3. Follow the steps in creating a pixel arts by hand.
Designers develop images to represent the ideas their clients
want to communicate. Images can be incredibly powerful and
compelling tools of communication, conveying not only information
but also moods and emotions. People respond to images
instinctively based on their personalities, associations, and previous
experience.
Activity Sheet
(Week 5)
A cartoon is a single panel image usually used to convey an
idea. A comic is a story told using sequential panel images.
Sometimes the terms cartoon strip or comic strip are used
interchangeably to describe a hybrid of the two.
Activity 1: Comic Strip Making
Materials: Laptop/ desktop PC
Software: Inkscape or MS Word
Read and understand the direction.
1. Search for your favorite cartoon character or superhero.
Save this image.
2. Open the software Inkscape or MS Word.
3. Copy and paste the saved image in your open MS Word.
Lay out it according to your preference.
4. Be sure the elements of art and principles of design are
present.
5. Make a comic strip about this. Use the word balloon
under the Insert menu. Click the shapes to see this word
balloon.
6. Finish your artwork on time.
Activity 2- Alternative
Alternative for Activity 5: Comic strip Making
Materials: Long bond paper, ruler, pencil, sign pens, technical pens
and coloring medium
A comic strip is a sequence of drawings in boxes that tell an
amusing story; typically printed in a newspaper or comic book, but
now can also be seen in web pages.
Do the following:
1. Look for typical knock-knock jokes, or “hirit” or “hugot” jokes
you want to use for your comic strip. For this activity, human
or non-human characters can be used and what is it, is a free
art style. However, a strict compliance must be made in doing
the comic strip.
2. The panels must measure 3 x 9 in. and the letters should be
inside the letter box. The letters should be readable and the
panels are measured consistently.
3. Divide the rectangle into 3 boxes measuring 3 x 3 in.
4. Ink and color your work.
(Note: A more professional approach is giving at least a gap
of 0 .5 cm from one box to the other. Thus, the length is
more than 9 inches. This gap is called white space that aids
in the readability of the comic strip.)
5. Follow the steps done in lessons 3 and 4 in terms of drawing,
inking and coloring.
7. Finish your artwork on time.
Alternative Material for the Activity 5b:
One can use 3 square Sticky Notes to act as each panels of
the comic strip. Adapt the 0.5 cm gap between boxes.
Alternative Material for the Activity 5c:
1. Pre-cut the size of 3 x 3 in box using colored construction
paper or bond paper.
2. Draw on each box apart of your comic book story. (The
advantage of this technique is that if one commits a mistake,
they can readily omit the box).
3. When the comic strip is complete, line the border of the box
with a black permanent marker. Adapt the 0.5 cm gap rule
between boxes.
This comic strip only used clipart. Observe the spaces and the
word box working with the illustration.
Spacing is critical in a comic strip so as not to overwhelm or
confuse the reader.
ACTIVITY SHEET
(Week 6)
By making your own comic book/ superhero character, you will be
able to see the harmony of using the elements and principles of art and
at the same time be able to apply to the superhero the imaginary self
you want to become.
Activity 6:
Materials: laptop, desktop, Inkscape application, paint application on
your laptop/desktop
Read and understand the direction.
1. Think of a design that would best fit for your character.
2. Choose the shape that would be of use to your character.
3. Start drafting your cartoon.
4. Use the palate on the paint application to add color to your
cartoon.
5. Print.
1. Activity 6: Scan and Edit Superhero Costume
Scan and edit the superheroes to be able to give them your
desired costumes.
1. Alternative Activity no. 6: Template Based Superhero Making
Materials: A photocopy of a template of a Female and Male body,
pencil, pen and coloring media.
a. Select a gender template you like and turn it into your own
superhero.
b. Apply the draw, ink, and paint technique.
c. Create a background (optional).
d. Give a name to your superhero and explain his/her powers.
2. Alternative Activity no. 6:
Materials: pencil, graphing paper, crayons, water color
Read carefully the directions.
a. Think of a design that would best fit for your comic book
character.
b. Sketch your comic book character design.
c. Use color pencils or water color for your comic book
character.
d. Combine colors to show harmony.
3. Alternative Activity no. 6:
Materials: colored papers, scissors, pictures of clothes from
magazines or comics.
a. Have a cut-out or template of your superhero/comic book
character.
b. Cut colored papers according to your desired design.
c. Create a costume for your own superhero/comic book
character.
d. What could be the special powers behind their costume.
The creation of a superhero has many styles and
techniques from the manga style, American-style comics, or
an amalgam of both. It is assumed that the art teacher has
enough skill to show the pupils how to draw the basic
animated human form. There are also readily available web
books and PDFs on how to draw comics which will help the
teacher learn how to draw at least one art style.
Activity Sheet
(Week 7)
Inspiration is needed to create a remarkable art work such as a one-page comic.
Draw your inspiration from your own interest and the everyday happening in your life.
From these experiences, start your one-page comic, reminisce your most remarkable
experiences. Your comic should contain illustrations and text to serve as the narrative.
Activity 1: Creating a One- Page Comic
Resources: Microsoft word / Paint / Inkscape
Follow the guide in accordingly.
1. Write the framework of your comic.
2. Lay – out your comic book panel (Remember to outline your panel according
to the focus of your story line. Bigger panels represent remarkable
narratives.).
3. You may use Microsoft Word in making your lay-out or other preferred app
such as Microsoft Paint, Inkscape or the like or you can make use of the
customized panels from the Internet.
4. Characters in your comic page maybe original or they can be taken from a
source.
5. Start making your one page comic.
Activity 2: Traditional Hand – Drawing
Alternative Activity 7-8: One Page Comic Book story
Graphic novels are now considered to be 21st century literature even with
its very visual orientation. This has brought comic book illustration to the next
level as an important medium of storytelling and giving a deeper insight of the
text.
1. Materials: ½ cartolina, bond paper for storyboard sketches, pencil, sign pens
and coloring media
A one page comic book story is a sequential panel series that tells a story. The
number of panels will depend on the how the artist works on the given text.
For this activity, the pupil may look into a short story or poem or a portion of a
bigger story that they want to illustrate.
 The first part is to create a rough sketch of a story board on how to lay-out the
series of panels and the how the text will be divided. The lay-out should consider
the S-type sequence as it is the natural flow on how people read (see the sample
above).
 After they finalize their lay-out, using the measuring tools and drawing materials,
they will recreate their story board into the ½ cartolina that will serve as their
formal comic book page. They will use their pencils first then ink and end by
coloring their work. Lines for the panels should consistently be thicker and the
inclusion of the title panel should be placed as well.
Another alternative for this activity is cutting pieces of paper into the shape and
appropriate size of their panels before pasting them on their ½ cartolina.
In any page you design whether it is book cover or a
flyer, your primary objective is to communicate the information
clearly. One of the effective ways to guarantee the key
messages clearly is to create a balanced layout.
A good art work masterpiece should be both pleasing to
the eye, but should also relay messages clearly to the
intended audience.
Filipino ingenuity in Art is something that is out of the
question. Artists were born generation by generation, each
adapting to the new trends.
Philippines is playing a major role in the global
animation industry for the past decades. Talented fellow
Filipinos have been key contributors to the development of
images for cartoon television shows and animated films of
major television and movie outfits such as Pixar.
With the excellent creativity and high-quality service of
Filipinos to a number of distinguished international animation
studios, as well as the growing need for digital imaging
experts, demand for creative services such as animation is
expected to rise.
ACTIVITY SHEET
(Week 8)
The incorporation of lines, shapes, colors, texture, contrast and emphasis must
be used as quality ingredients in an artwork to make your artwork great. The elements
must be used as quality ingredients in an artwork.
Activity 1: Identifying Art Elements Used
Resources: Materials downloaded
Read and follow the direction
 Identify the character in the one page comic.
 Enumerate the different emotions expressed
by the character.
 State the different art elements used to show
the emotions (Example: Based on the Facial expression of Darna, What
have you notice? is she happy or upset?).
 Choose a panel from the comic strip that you
would like to edit and change emotion then
express the change character.
Alternative Activity : From comic magazine, comic strips and other sources
Read and follow the direction:
 Identify the character in the one page comic.
 Enumerate the different emotions expressed
by the character.
 State the different art elements used to show
the emotions (Example: Based on the Facial expression of Captain
Barbell, What have you notice? is he happy or upset?).
Activity 2: Drawing a One Page Comic
Alternative Activity 8: Express Character Traits in a One-Page Comic
The term comic book derives from the American comic book once being a
compilation of comic strips of a humorous tone. The first modern comic book, “Famous
Funnies”, was released in the United States in 1930s. In a comic art, there are
sequential panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by
brief descriptive prose and written narrative. Comics are now experiencing revival as it is
being written more for education.
Materials: ½ cartolina, bond paper for storyboard sketches, pencil, sign pens and
coloring media
1. Use emoticons in building the characters of your comic.
2. Be sure to express their feelings by using the appropriate art elements.
3. Make your comic colorful and dynamic through the use of contrast and
emphasis.
Comics will continue to endure its strong appeal to all ages.
Comics will serve to link the more literate society with the more visual
society of the future.
There is another role of comic book in society. The “Champion of
the Oppressed” are the super heroes like Batman and Superman. There
is a positivistic view into this; people are given hopes- it re affirms their
faith in having a better future.

Tg art 6

  • 1. First Quarter: Drawing Lesson No. 1: Review of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design Using Logo Design Code A6EL-Ia: Realizes that art processes, elements and principles still apply even the use of technologies Activity Sheet Think Creatively One of the most important considerations for logo design is the color palette. This is not a superficial decision, color carries meanings and communicates ideas. WORK ON ART Activity 1- Logo Design Making Materials: Laptop/ Desktop PC Software: Inkscape or MS Paint Read and Understand the direction. 1. Open the software Inkscape or MS Paint. 2. Draw a simple logo design. (You can use the shapes under the insert tool bar). Note: Be specific of what logo design student will do. 3. Be sure the elements and principles of arts were presents. 4. Finished your artwork on time. Note: Refer to the logos below for inspiration, but pupils are encouraged to make their own design. CRAFT CREATIVENESS Activity 2- Alternative Alternative for Activity 1: Logo Design Making Materials: graphing paper, pencil, ruler, coloring materials (colored pens and pencils are good but crayons and water medium can also be used) * In the absence of a graphing paper, you may let your students draw their own grid squares (suggested size per grid box is 1 x 1 cm) using their pencil and ruler on a bond paper Read, understand and follow the directions. 1. Imagine a symbol or logo you want to make. 2. Using a pencil draw your work on a Graphing Paper. 3. Remember the Simple Rules in making a Pixel Art, start coloring each box of the graphing paper with the color of your choice. One box, one color. There are no half colored boxes. 4. Be sure the elements and principles of arts were presents. 5. Explain the logo that you have made. 6. Finished your artwork on time.
  • 2. Example: Website that creates automatic pixel art http://makepixelart.com/free/ Broaden Your Understanding Design is like art, but it is art with a purpose in mind. This purpose can be the creation of a product that we use or a plan or sketch that we intend to do. Design has commercial value in them that is important in business and industry.
  • 3. First Quarter : Drawing Lesson 2 : Commercial Art Code A6PL-Ia : The learner appreciates the elements and principles applied in commercial art Think Creatively Does this comic book cover illustration of Darna shows the Elements of Arts and the Principles of Design? Work on Art Activity I Computer Art: ASCII Art Materials: Computer, cellphone or tablet ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses computers for presentation and consists of pictures pieced together different letters and symbols from the computer and cellphones. The term is also loosely used to refer to text-based visual art in general. Old typewriters can also be used to create these works of art. Commercial art, often called advertising art, is used to sell goods and services. It is different from fine art, which exists for its own sake. There are a few specific careers one can pursue in commercial art, and many of these require the completion of a degree program in commercial art or a similar area. Commercial art applies artistic principles to a variety of fields. Commercial artists design advertisements, logos, billboards, brochures, book covers, product packaging and other similar artwork. Their work is often used to sell, promote, explain, narrate and inform. Commercial artists are typically employed by advertising agencies, newspapers, magazines, graphic design firms, television studios and similar businesses. (Source:www.google.com)
  • 4. Examples of ASCII art Procedure: 1. Using only letters and symbols found on your computer software (MS Word, MS Excel, Ms Powerpoint, etc), cellphone or tablet, create any image of your choice. 2. If you are using a computer software, play with different sizes or font presentation (bold or italics) to create varying images of the same design. If you are using your cellphone, fill-up the screen with letters or symbols and leave-out spaces to create your image like the Albert Einstein image above. If you are having a hard time looking for an inspiration, why not create an ASCII art of your name? What is important is you can create an art using the technology that you have in your hand. Was it easy to create your design? Craft Creativeness If having a computer, cellphone or tablet, may serve as a challenge, you may get the simple concept of computer art through pixel art. A pixel is the basic unit of a computer graphics. It is made up of only one shape, a square, and one specific color. Combining all pixels can create powerful images of art and even film. Materials: graphing papers, pencils, crayons or any coloring materials. ><}}}0> <0{{{><
  • 5. Procedures: 1. Draw your design lightly on the graphing paper. 2. Fill in the boxes with the color of your choice to create the image of your design. 3. To make it an authentic pixel art follow the: The Simple Rules of Creating a Pixel Art by Hand 1. One box, one color. 2. There are no half colored boxes. 3. Curves are interpreted like stairs. Look at batman logo. 4. To achieve shadow or color transition, use one color lighter or darker. If there are no available pieces of graphing paper. You may create the boxes using a ruler and a pencil. Set the box size to a comfortable measurement unit: 10 mm or 1 cm and then follow the given instructions above. Was it easy to create your art? Another alternative activity that still follow the ASCII Art is using your own hand writing to draw an image of your choice. However, instead of straight lines, you are only limited to the entire Alphabet, Numbers and only these following symbols ( ) , + : - > < ? / = @ # * ^ { } [ ] Materials: Bond paper, colored pens or pencils or ballpens
  • 6. 1. Create any image of your choice using only the prescribed characters above. 2. Use different colors to make your work very colorful. Ha How do you find your hand-drawn ASCII Art inspired work? Broaden Your Understanding Have you ever heard of the word Design? Design is the conceptualization and creation of new things like books, posters, products, places, signs, systems, services, furniture, websites, and more. It is like very much like art but it is art with a purpose in mind. This purpose is often associated with commercial value of a concept or a creation since these things are often made to be sold and use. Thus, it must be well-thought off, well-made and attractive that its users will notice it and buy it. Commercial art follows the concept of design. Have you noted the similarities and the distinct difference of Art and Design? The creation of an art work needs to be well-thought of, well-made and attractive so that other people will appreciate it and buy it. It is like design as defined above but the difference is the product will be used after it is bought while an art work remains only to be appreciated and not used. Another similarity worth knowing is that since design is like art, it also follows the same elements and principles. We already learned that by properly using these elements and principles of art, we can create works of art that will that have better aesthetics or beauty in them. Again, the only added value in design compared to art is its purpose and use. Hand-drawn using numbers
  • 7. Prepared by: ROSALYN C. DAVID Bacolor North District Activity Sheet (Week 3) Activity 1 – Application of Software (Inkscape) Materials: Laptop/desktop Follow this procedure if Inkscape software is not available 1. Download Inkscape software Step 1: Go to https://inkscape.org/en/. Step 2: Click download. Step 3: Choose your Operating System (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.). Step 4: Click installer.exe (32-bit or 64 –bit). Step 5: Wait for it to download. The art of making a good hand drawn logo design starts with sketches of the style you may want to do before executing the design in a more accurate manner using a ruler, a compass for round shapes, and other measuring tools. Lines play the most vital part of the design as it forms the letter and shape, but also the way it is drawn has a bearing to the message your logo is showing. Thick lines make the logo appear closer and create strong visual impact, but may be too heavy for the eyes. Thin lines on the other hand make the logo appear from behind create details that may be pleasing to the eyes but may be too much that the logo gets lost with the details. As mentioned, in creating the perfect logo: less is more.
  • 8. Prepared by: ROSALYN C. DAVID Bacolor North District Step 6: Run inkscape-0.92.1.exe. Step 7: keep clicking ‘Next’. Step 8: Inkscape will run automatically. 2. Show Inkscape software’s homepage to pupils 3. Familiarize pupils with the menus and commands of inkscape software
  • 9. Prepared by: ROSALYN C. DAVID Bacolor North District Activity 2 – Alternative Drawing Technique of Logo Making Materials: paper, pencil, sign pen/colored pen, permanent marker and any coloring media Using your pencil, create the font that you like. You may follow a template of letters or create your own style but consider the spaces between your letters and the visual balance of your free handwork. Don’t worry if you drew may pencil guidelines as you will be erasing it after you have inked your work. Use your sign pen or colored pen to enhance your line. You may also add a few more details with your sign pen. If you create a mistake you may cover it with a correction tape or masking fluid The last part is coloring your work. It will be best that you explain your work to your teacher and classmates why the logo you did reflects who you are. Why did you use that kind of font and color. If there are images, what do they symbolize?
  • 10. Prepared by: ROSALYN C. DAVID Bacolor North District Inkscape was formed in 2003 by four active Sodipodi developers, Bryce Harrington, MenTaLguY, Nathan Hurst, and Ted Gould, wanting to take a different direction with the codebase in terms of focus on SVG compliance, interface look-and-feel, and a desire to open development opportunities to more participants. The codebase that would become Inkscape began life in 1999 as the program Gill, the GNOME Illustrator application, created by Raph Levien. The stated objective for Gill was to eventually support all of SVG. Raph implemented the PostScript bezier imaging model, including stroking and filling, line cap style, line join style, text, etc. Raph's Gill page is at http://www.levien.com/svg/. Work on Gill appears to have slowed or ceased in 2000. The next incarnation of the codebase was to become the highly popular program Sodipodi, led by Lauris Kaplinski. The codebase was turned into a powerful illustration program over the course of several year's work, adding several new features, multi-lingual support, porting to Windows and other operating systems, and eliminating dependencies.
  • 11. ACTIVITY SHEET (Week 4) A logo can give your company an easily recognized visual symbol and may give the impression of the quality that your company is promoting. A picture is indeed worth a thousand words. The use of contrast between the space (positive and negative) color (dark and light) and shape (big and small), conveys meanings and visual representation. Activity 1 - Using the Inkscape Software, MS Word or Paint Theme: Creating a Logo for Your Group 1. The teacher will divide the class into 5 groups. 2. Each group will make an image based logo design that will represent their group characteristics. 3. The elements of arts and principles should be visible to the design. 4. Ask a member of the group to convey the meaning of their design. Remind the pupils to keep their work and apply the principles of contrast. Activity 2 – Creating an Image Based Logo Alternative Activity for no Computer: Materials: pencils, oslo paper, colored pencils, rulers, and sample logo illustrations Theme: Create a logo for your Class
  • 12. Part I: Free Hand Drawing Design 1. Look for an object that best describes your class. 2. Sketch the object in different styles and ways. Try to apply the leave out technique and contrast in terms of shape or form if you are combining two images. 3. Finalize the image you want to do and start applying different contrasting colors to it. Part II: Finalize Design 1. Redo your logo but this time apply proper measurement and distance and balance in your drawing using measuring tools. 2. Ink your work by covering all pencil marks on the shape. Erase guidelines or unnecessary lines. 3. Color or paint your work using any color media you have. Alternative Activity 2 Creating Image Based Design Using Pixel Materials: graphic papers, pencils, colored pencils Give the simple rules of creating a pixel art by hand. 1. One box; one color. 2. There are no half-colored boxes. 3. Curves are interpreted like stairs. Look at Captain America’s shield. 4. To achieve shadow or color transition, use one color lighter or darker. Show an example: 1. Create an image-based design using pixel for yourself. 2. Be sure to convey your personality in your image. 3. Follow the steps in creating a pixel arts by hand.
  • 13. (http://hprgraphic.blogspot.com/2009/05/image-based-design.html). Designers develop images to represent the ideas their clients want to communicate. Images can be incredibly powerful and compelling tools of communication, conveying not only information but also moods and emotions. People respond to images instinctively based on their personalities, associations, and previous experience.
  • 14. Activity Sheet (Week 5) A cartoon is a single panel image usually used to convey an idea. A comic is a story told using sequential panel images. Sometimes the terms cartoon strip or comic strip are used interchangeably to describe a hybrid of the two. Activity 1: Comic Strip Making Materials: Laptop/ desktop PC Software: Inkscape or MS Word Read and understand the direction. 1. Search for your favorite cartoon character or superhero. Save this image. 2. Open the software Inkscape or MS Word. 3. Copy and paste the saved image in your open MS Word. Lay out it according to your preference. 4. Be sure the elements of art and principles of design are present. 5. Make a comic strip about this. Use the word balloon under the Insert menu. Click the shapes to see this word balloon. 6. Finish your artwork on time. Activity 2- Alternative Alternative for Activity 5: Comic strip Making Materials: Long bond paper, ruler, pencil, sign pens, technical pens
  • 15. and coloring medium A comic strip is a sequence of drawings in boxes that tell an amusing story; typically printed in a newspaper or comic book, but now can also be seen in web pages. Do the following: 1. Look for typical knock-knock jokes, or “hirit” or “hugot” jokes you want to use for your comic strip. For this activity, human or non-human characters can be used and what is it, is a free art style. However, a strict compliance must be made in doing the comic strip. 2. The panels must measure 3 x 9 in. and the letters should be inside the letter box. The letters should be readable and the panels are measured consistently. 3. Divide the rectangle into 3 boxes measuring 3 x 3 in. 4. Ink and color your work. (Note: A more professional approach is giving at least a gap of 0 .5 cm from one box to the other. Thus, the length is more than 9 inches. This gap is called white space that aids in the readability of the comic strip.) 5. Follow the steps done in lessons 3 and 4 in terms of drawing, inking and coloring. 7. Finish your artwork on time. Alternative Material for the Activity 5b: One can use 3 square Sticky Notes to act as each panels of the comic strip. Adapt the 0.5 cm gap between boxes. Alternative Material for the Activity 5c: 1. Pre-cut the size of 3 x 3 in box using colored construction paper or bond paper. 2. Draw on each box apart of your comic book story. (The advantage of this technique is that if one commits a mistake, they can readily omit the box). 3. When the comic strip is complete, line the border of the box with a black permanent marker. Adapt the 0.5 cm gap rule between boxes.
  • 16. This comic strip only used clipart. Observe the spaces and the word box working with the illustration. Spacing is critical in a comic strip so as not to overwhelm or confuse the reader.
  • 17. ACTIVITY SHEET (Week 6) By making your own comic book/ superhero character, you will be able to see the harmony of using the elements and principles of art and at the same time be able to apply to the superhero the imaginary self you want to become. Activity 6: Materials: laptop, desktop, Inkscape application, paint application on your laptop/desktop Read and understand the direction. 1. Think of a design that would best fit for your character. 2. Choose the shape that would be of use to your character. 3. Start drafting your cartoon. 4. Use the palate on the paint application to add color to your cartoon. 5. Print. 1. Activity 6: Scan and Edit Superhero Costume Scan and edit the superheroes to be able to give them your desired costumes.
  • 18. 1. Alternative Activity no. 6: Template Based Superhero Making Materials: A photocopy of a template of a Female and Male body, pencil, pen and coloring media. a. Select a gender template you like and turn it into your own superhero. b. Apply the draw, ink, and paint technique. c. Create a background (optional). d. Give a name to your superhero and explain his/her powers. 2. Alternative Activity no. 6: Materials: pencil, graphing paper, crayons, water color Read carefully the directions. a. Think of a design that would best fit for your comic book character. b. Sketch your comic book character design. c. Use color pencils or water color for your comic book character. d. Combine colors to show harmony. 3. Alternative Activity no. 6: Materials: colored papers, scissors, pictures of clothes from magazines or comics. a. Have a cut-out or template of your superhero/comic book character. b. Cut colored papers according to your desired design. c. Create a costume for your own superhero/comic book character. d. What could be the special powers behind their costume.
  • 19. The creation of a superhero has many styles and techniques from the manga style, American-style comics, or an amalgam of both.
