During the month of August the EU car market posted a stronger decline than in July (-18.9% vs. -3,7%).
Not only Top 10 but also other countries in the region recorded losses compared to August 2019, with
the exception of Cyprus (+14.1%). Looking at the four major EU markets, Italy performed best, with a
slight drop of 0.4%, while the strongest declines were seen in Germany (-20.0%) and France (-19.8%).

After five months of recession due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the car market in August shows first signs of near-to-zero
performance (-0,4% vs.August 2019). Still, in the first 8 months, the market has had a significant drop: -38.9% with 809.655 units
compared to 1.325.704 in January-August 2019, with a final balance of 516.049 units less. Private segment in August was recovering
better than other segments (-33.6% for Private, -43.7% for Fleet and -49.1% for Business). Main optimistic numbers are related to
EV sales (+249.5% in August 2020 vs. 2019 with 1.877 registered units this month) and hybrid sales (+647.7% or 10.609 units
registered more than in August 2019).The balance sheet for the half year is still dramatic: sales fell by 38,9% or 516.049 units sold
less respect to the first 8 month of 2019.
