1. This is my Army Man. (He says, “Hi!”)
There are some more Army Men coming. Choose one to adopt as yours.
2.
3. After you choose one, fill out this little biographical sketch:
___(name)___ is a _(age)_-year-old ____(occupation)_____.
(S)He wants ___(a desire)_____ but (s)he must overcome
___(obstacle)___, ___(obstacle)___, and ___(obstacle)___.
4. Please take note: it is not necessary that your character be in the
army or be a man. The pictures are just for fun--your character can
be from any walk of life.
5. You can write about the things you see going on in these pictures
or you can ignore it altogether.
6. After you fill out the form, post what you’ve written in the discussion
board. Then ask probing questions about the army men created by
your classmates. Pretend you’re at a party and you’re trying to get
to know the army men guests. Don’t hold back.
7. Return to your thread often to answer the questions, and from the
beginning to the end of this week, you’ll probably learn a lot about
your Army Man.
8. This might all seem silly. (It is.) But it has a serious message.
9. Take time to learn about your characters' basic biography
and desires. Even if that information never makes it to
your story, you'll understand them better.
Before you begin the dialogue assignment, write out the
sentence we used for the army men for your characters.
You might create people based on folks you know or you
can completely invent characters from your imagination.
