The Interconnectedness Of Cultural Anthropology And Folk...
The chief concern of this paper is to explore the interconnectedness of cultural anthropology and
folk literature. There are many essays that have already shown the interrelationship between
folklore and anthropology1. Both these umbrella terms have many things in common but when it
comes to folk literature and cultural anthropology, some distinctions become apparent. To say,
hence, this paper is different in a sense that instead of dealing with the broad areas of folkloreand
anthropology, it looks at their branches and explores interconnectedness between them. Before
moving further, one needs to understand the area of folklore and folk literature. American Folklore
Society (AFS) defines folklore as the traditional art, literature, knowledge, and practice that is
disseminated largely through oral communication and behavioral example . It clearly hints that
folklore is a broad term which includes all the types of expressions whether oral, written, visual, or
performative. This leads to an inference that folk literature is one of the branches of folklore which
deals with verbal and written expressions. Similarly, anthropology is a jacket term which means a
study of humanity including the prehistoric to contemporary, whereas the cultural anthropology is
one of its four branches which aims to understand and define why a certain group behaves
differently from the other group. These clarifications lead to another inference that though both
anthropology and folklore study human

Rutherford s Lab Essay
1. Choose one of the two shapes above and draw what the path of the marbles might look like if
someone repeated the process we used in class. Include at least 10 marble rolls. Make sure that
there would enough evidence to estimate the size, shape, and location of the object. Explain your
rationale in between 5 7 sentences. Based on the path of the marbles in the diagram, there is
enough evidence to estimate the size of the shape, based on where the marblebounces off of the
shape and where the marble rolls past the shape. You can also use this method to determine the
approximate location of the shape. In the diagram that I drew, you would be able to determine that
the shape isn t located towards the top or bottom of the cardboard and that... Show more content on

In what ways did this activity represent a model for Rutherford s efforts to determine the
structure of the atom? What type of thinking and evidence (direct or indirect) were necessary in
order to draw conclusions in both situations? This activity is a model for Rutherford s
experiments to determine the structure of the atom because in the activity, we rolled a marble
towards a shape that we could not see in order to determine its size, shape, and location, just as
Rutherford observed how particles bounced off of or went through a sheet of gold foil, in order
to determine the size, shape, and properties of atoms. We used the angles at which the marble
bounced off of the shape in order to determine the properties of that shape in our activity, and in
Rutherford s experiments, he observed how the particles bounced off of or went through the
gold foil, in order to determine the atom s properties. Also, we used a piece of cardboard to
cover our target because Rutherford was not able to see the atoms that he was studying. In order
to draw conclusions in both situations, you need to determine what makes the marble or particle
roll or travel the way it does. For example, in the experiments, if the particle went straight through
the gold leaf and in our activity, if the marble rolls straight through the cardboard, you can infer
that the particles and the marble didn t hit the target. However, if the marble or particle bounced
off of the target at an angle, you need to be able to use those angles to determine what shape and
size the target is and where it is

Effects Of The Endocrine System
The main system that hypothyroidism has an effect on is the endocrine system since the thyroid is
an endocrine gland. The thyroid gland is located inferior to the thyroid cartilage of the larynx and
anterior to the trachea and it is the gland responsible for regulating metabolism. The pituitary gland
becomes a major player as well because the thyroidgland can only release its hormones from
hormones from the anterior pituitary gland (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle, 2013).
The endocrine system works to control and regulate the body. It works by hormones being released
into the blood and carried to target cells and tissues. The control center of the endocrine system is
the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus has direct control over the pituitary gland ... Show more

What Is Oedipus False Certainty
Bernard Knox states that Oedipus fall was due the claim that, [T]hese attributes of divinity
knowledge, certainty, justice are all qualities Oedipus thought he possessed and that is why he was
the perfect example of the inadequacy of human knowledge, certainty, and justice. In Oedipus the
King by Sophocles, Oedipusbelieved that he possessed certainty of knowledge and justice due to
his hubris, which led to his downfall. Oedipus tragic downfall came about from his false certainty
of knowledge, his incautious judgement and actions, and delusion of self justice. He curses the
killer of Laius, not knowing that it was himself. Due to Oedipus eventual discovery of the truth, he
is cursed at the end of the play.

How Does Atticus Show Real Courage
Q1 I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man
with a gun in his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway
and you see through it no matter what. (pg. 112)Those are the words that Atticus Finch a lawyer
in a small town in Alabama, called Maycomb used to describe what real courage is. For Atticus
being a lawyer is fighting for what is right whether if you win or lose. Atticus shows what real
courage is in Harper Lee s story To Kill a MockingBird.
Atticus is one of many characters in To Kill a MockingBird that shows courage throughout the
whole story, such when he defends Tom Robinson in a court case.. Atticus knows Tom is
innocent and wants to defend him, since no one else wants to. Like he said to his son Jem Q2
Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit em, but remember it s a sin to kill a mockingbird.
(pg.119)What he means by that is that if you know someone hasn t done anything wrong and you
do something wrong to them, it s a sin. He shows courage by helping an african american in a
court case accused of raping a white woman with the only evidence to help is Tom Robinson s
word for it. This shows courage because not many would have taken the task of that difficult case
and have to hear what people say about them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

scene of where the mad dog is and he takes the risk of whether saving people or causing the dog

people can shoot good after many years of not shooting and under pressure like Atticus did. All in
all Atticus showed courage throughout the story many times, and like he said real courage is

No Match For The Power Of Lobbying
Seattleites would soon find that public opinion was no match for the power of lobbying: So, an
unholy alliance downtown business groups, large companies like Boeing (whose interest in Seattle
transportation begins and ends with getting commuters through it quickly), the antediluvian
WSDOT, craven SeattleCity Council members, craven state legislators like Ed Murray (who
sponsored the tunnel bill and is now mayor), and head cheerleader Gregoire bullied the tunnel
back onto the agenda, and Seattle voters, sick to f ing death of arguing about it, finally voted in
2011 to allow it to go forward (Roberts 1). It had been somewhat of a political miracle that it had
ever passed in the first place. The so called Seattle process, in which... Show more content on

Six years after several groups called for the shutdown of the Viaduct over the fact that it may
collapse imminently, its replacement was finally approved; the Viaduct, however, was still standing.
The construction of the tunnel started with both banging and whimpering. At the christening
ceremony of Bertha, the name of the machine designed to bore through the Seattle underground,
WSDOT communications head KaDeena Yerkan pleasantly told reporters We know exactly the
path of Bertha and what she ll encounter along the way, (Esser 1). At that time in July of 2013, the
tunnel project was expected to be completed within fourteen months. Immediately after Bertha
began chugging its way through the Seattle dirt, it ran into twin issues. First, a mechanical issue,
namely a clog in the conveyor screw; that was quickly fixed. However, a struggle for jobs between
the longshoremen unions and the building trade unions led to the longshoremen picketing the
tunnel project and halting work until late September. Washington Governor Jay Inslee, by this point
the third governor since the 2001 earthquake that cracked the Viaduct, remarked, I have been
increasingly frustrated by this situation, and I know that Washingtonians feel this same frustration
to the nth degree, he said Tuesday. I could not

Drinking Tea History
The ART of Drinking Tea
Tea and its History
A cup of tea is a vital part of everyday life for the majority of people all over the world. In fact, tea
is so integral to may people s routine that it is very difficult to imagine life without it. Imagine
going to a Chinese restaurant and ordering dim sum without serving the hot tea that goes along with
it. But this common practice was not that enjoyed by the majority before. Tea was a luxury
product that only the rich could afford, and at one time there was a discussion if it is good or bad
for ones health. It was over the course of several hundred years that tea gained its place as a
familiar drink among many household. Also, its health giving properties were relatively ... Show

Now many companies saw the market for people enjoying the benefits of drinking tea and gave
birth to bottled tea in the market.
Different cultures may practice different art of drinking tea. Now we may say that like juice and
coffee, tea has become an everyday drink for everybody enjoying not only as refreshment but also
as a supplementary drink that provides health benefits as well.
Benefits of Drinking Tea
Studies that support the health benefits of drinking tea have been very adamant all over the
world. There s no denying that a daily pot of tea does the body good. Even Though researchers can
t quite agree on every aspect, the fact is that a few cups a day will do its best to protect us from
heart disease, a stroke, cancer and more.
Tea contains high levels of antioxidants that help the body prevent harming other cells on board.
Antioxidants are disease preemptors ion finest form. Tea also contains fluoride which benefits our
teeth and has bacteria killing properties which helps control bad breath and the formation of plaque.
Although many of dentists agree, tea still marks teeth with stains but no permanent damage for
drinkers.
Below are some of the testimonies of people who have studied and believed the good effects of tea:
* Tea consumption may help heart disease patients. (the Journal of the American Heart Association,
2001) * Green tea could help stem esophageal

The Crisis Of The Caribbean
Crisis in the Caribbean Just before 5pm on January 12, 2010, a fierce earthquake struck Haiti. It
was the worst earthquake to hit the region in two hundred years. The death toll was over two
hundred thousand people. Haiti resides in the area of responsibility (AOR) of SOUTHCOM, the
Department of Defense s geographic combatant command for the South American and Caribbean
region. Since the natural disaster took place in SOUTHCOM s AOR, the Chairman of the Joint
Chief of Staff (CJCS) appointed SOUTHCOM as the DOD s lead agency. Although initial
SOUTHCOM organization was not ideal and the earthquake rendered communications inoperable,
SOUTHCOM s response to the crisis was astonishing because SOUTHCOM organized a force of

All of this was just to organize the Combatant Command Headquarters. A Joint Task Force still
needed to be stood up and damage on the ground still needed to be assessed in order to determine
what kind of aid Haiti was going to need. Selecting the JTF Commander was pretty easy for
SOUTHCOM. LTG Keen was identified as the JTF Commander for a plethora of reasons. He
had vast experience in the region, had built a personal relationship with the Commander of the
MINUSTAH contingent and he was on the ground in Haiti when the earthquake happened. Once
identified as the JTF H Commander, LTG Keen had to start piecing together a capable Joint Task
Force. Pieces of the puzzle, such as the USS Carl Vincent, the 22nd and 24th Expeditionary Strike
Forces as well as a BCT from the 82nd Airborne Division were identified almost immediately as
parts of the newly formed JTF. After reading this case study and some articles online, I initially
thought that the Department of Defense s response was going to be a huge failure. Failure in the
sense that this Geographic Combatant Command (GCC) was undermanned and unprepared and
this was going to cost the people of Haiti dearly due to the delayed response times while this
GCC was getting fully manned and properly organized; then I looked at the timeline. It is
astonishing what was accomplished so quickly by both the DOD and SOUTHCOM. Were they
fully prepared for the crisis? No. Were they

Materialism In Alexander Pope And Pope s Rape Of The Lock
The views of women have altered over time, but have always had objectifying tendencies. During
the 18th century, cosmetic alteration to natural beauty peaked and materialism heightened
throughout societal views. Authors such as Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift vividly spew
these views throughout their writings. Pope s Rape of the Lock exposes the materialism used in
objectifying women, mainly in the upper class societal levels. The whole plot of the story centers
around a cosmetic appearance creating an objectified view, as since the lock of hair was cut from a
womans head, the missing lock became, so called, evidence of a man s sexual conquest. Other
sexual conquests, forced or not, are spoken with anything but love and only those of... Show more

This elevation highly represents the overall theme that materialism plays an almost biblical role
in society. The other way to analyze the list is that the Bibles are brought down to the very
materialistic level of the other listed cosmetics. Another aspect to note is that Bibles is plainly
listed, not the first or last mentioned item, but somewhere in the middle. Both ways conclude
that the cosmetic, material items compare at the same level as the Bible s paired along with
them. Another list comes with a comparison of paired items that contradict each other s
importance; ... Or stain her honor, or her new brocade,/ forget her prayers, or miss a masquerade,
/ Or lose her heart, or necklace, at a ball;... (Pope II 106 107). The first description used in each
line is something of importance, as staining honor, forgetting prayers or losing her heart all have
serious implications and consequences. But then those more serious actions are paired with trivial
material ones; staining a new brocade, missing a masquerade or losing a necklace at a ball. The
material actions paired with important ones really unify them as being on the same level of
importance. The contradiction is removed and materialism is elevated.
Objectification of women goes hand and hand with materialism. When Pope speaks of the sexual
conquests in The Rape of the Lock, he only focuses on the material aspects that result

Conformity Quotes In Fahrenheit 451
Don t step on the toes of the dog lovers, the cat lovers, doctors, lawyers, merchants, chiefs,
Mormons, Baptist, Unitarians, second generation Chinese, Swedes, Germans, Texans
,Brooklynites, Irishmen, people from Oregon, or Mexico. (Bradbury 57). This quote, a
statement from Captain Beatty, is an example of how conformity is a big ideology in the
society. His statement proves that they believe conforming removes conflict. Take away
opinions, likes, dislikes, and everyone is happy. Tell the people how they should feel and what
they should believe. Montag s society s idea of a utopia is that compliance is honing. Mildred
backed away as if she were suddenly confronted by a pack of mice that had come out of the floor.
(Bradbury 66). In this quote, Bradbury describes Mildred s reaction to being presented books by
Montag. An example of complying to the law. She reacts in fear to illegal objects. She is unsure
of why she s apprehensive of the books, other than that because the society says she should be. If
a book, tradition, or common practice, anything human, doesn t conform to the societal standards,
then it is offensive, therefore in need of being burned, or forgotten. They erase books to erase the
past. Erase tradition. An example to support the previous statement is when Beatty says, Colored

Cabin. Burn it. Someone s written a book on tobacco and cancer of the lungs? The

But the operations were held back by the radiation from the damaged plant. There were also
complications with some of the used fuel stores on the site: they lost compelling cooling, and
some consists of somewhat fresh fuel with high levels of activeness and heat output. There were
3,400 tonnes of used fuel in seven storage pools, in addition to the 877 tonnes of fuel in the
reactors (Fukushima: The Impacts and Immediate Impacts). Due to this happening, there was no
way to operate the emergency core cooling systems for the reactors. The water inside the reactors
melted, exposing the fuel, which then overheated and reacted with steam to form flammable
hydrogen gas. Hydrogen explosions damaged the reactor containment buildings and discharged
radioactive gases from the damaged fuel. To put a stop to such a power loss from now on, plant
engineers should install numerous connections to the offsite power grid; position emergency diesel
generators on high level grounds; and set up plenty of mobile emergency diesel

Homer s Tough Choices In Cider House Rules
In the movie Cider House Rules Homer experiences a lot in a short amount of time. There are

many would never even experience in a lifetime. Some of the choices he makes may not be the

Hydroelectric Power
Electricity is used everywhere in our lives. Electricity give life to our homes, our television sets,
our computers, and other electronic devices. Electricity also is used for charge our batteries, the
batteries that keeps our cars running, our control remotes working, our laptops, our flashlights to
keep shinning in dark, and even cell phones. Electricity is the energy that can produce sound, light,
heat and many more. Many devices and artifacts we use every day, not only in our homes even in
the industries, depends on electricity. But, how we get the production of electricity? Well,

As we all know, every construction has his advantages and disadvantages. This is why there are
multiples version of many constructions, because they want to find the one with less
disadvantages and more advantages. And this case, hydropower has many advantages that we
benefit a lot of it, while also has disadvantages. One of the advantages that hydropower has is
that it doesn t pollute the air like power plants that burn fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas.
Which means that it does not produce carbon dioxide and a construction like this does not create
carbon monoxide fumes, nuclear waste or other environmental hazard materials. Another
advantage of a hydropower is that is available as needed, because engineers can control the flow
of water through the turbines to produce electricity depending upon the demand. Other of the
advantages is that hydropower use water, one of the Earth s most abundant resources, and it s
fully renewable. The rivers, streams, and lakes that hydroelectric power sources use to generate
power are always flowing and moving about on their own, and the turbine simply pass the power
and sends it out to the needed areas. One of the disadvantages is that large reservoirs required for
the operation of hydroelectric power stations result in submersion of extensive areas of upstream,
which cause destructive biological rich and productive lowland. Another disadvantage is that when
changes in the amount of river flow correlate

Requirements And Issue Management Systems
1.Requirements and Issue Management Systems
Requirements and issue management systems allow managers or leaders to classify and affiliate
characteristics with them, and to establish and evaluate dependencies and other common ties.
Requirements set the stage for a project and issue management is an important process of
identifying and resolving issues (Cook, 2015). Shaw Industries used an agile methodology called
Scrum to improve relationships between IT and business partners to ensure project success (O
Brien Marakas, 2011). IT used this tool to work collectively as a group and determine which

IT must have something to show during its effort, and if they deliver, this will promote a positive
relationship.
A healthy organization is one that involves people who are loyal to one another, never judges,
expresses genuine appreciation across their organizational structure, assists others with critical tasks
and never places blame on someone (Williams, 2013). When businesses make and keep promises,
they see strong trust and respect across the organization. If they often make commitments but fail to
keep them, people will see frustration and self starving behavior (Williams, 2013). Shaw Industries
focused on consistency to build a trusting relationship with their client. They delivered priorities by
an explicit deadline and in turn, trust was earned. A customer s ability to trust is dependent upon
showing the customer that your behavior is consistent and persistent over time. When a customer
can predict your behavior, that customer is more likely to trust you (James, 2012).
While the agile system was the popular choice for Shaw Industries, this certainly does not mean it is
the best choice for every organization. There are hundreds of Requirements and Issue Management
software available. SpiraTest, RequirementsHub, DevSpec, Gatherspace and Bugzilla are just a few
that are popular today (Top Requirements Management Software Products, 2015). Each has their
own set of tools and configurations to assist project managers. An effective issue management

In the decline, some nations were becoming more powerful. There are four particular causes of
this decline. The first is an economic change where there began an expanded trade system.
Several trading posts earned riches, and they also set up long distance trade routes. Adam Smith
and some of the Merchants did start the theory called mercantilism. Mercantilism means that the
profits that were made from the business are based on the volume of its trade. The second was
religious because the Europeans arrived looking for riches from the new world and the quest for
wealth and power. In the midst of their search, they were also extorting the expensive items from
the Catholic Church which begins the start of the crusades on the lands that was controlled by the

Leader Vs. The Face Of Followers
When I was doing research for my book Captivate, I wanted to discover why and how people make
strong judgements about strangers they ve just met. Everyone knows that first impressions are
important part of this. The question is, how accurate are they? Before digging into the science, I
decided to ask my twitter followers how accurate they think their first judgement of people is.
judgement
What s interesting about that is that it is very close to what the research shows. Studies have

The faces of introverts and extroverts slightly mimic the way they interact with the world.
Typically, introverts are quiet and reserved unless they are in situations that bring out their most
outgoing side. Likewise, the introverted face looks like it is not engaged with the world and has
neutral features.
On the other hand, the extroverted face on the right features a smile and is gazing forward. They
look ready to spark up a conversation, a state that extroverts are constantly in.
The Face of a Leader vs. the Face of a Follower judgement Facial structure plays a huge role in who
we respect as leaders. The image on the right is an example of a highly dominant face. Its brows,
jawline, and cheekbones are strong set and it makes the person with the face look like they are
prepared to go to battle.

Why Did Kitty Genovese s Neighbors Fail For Take Action...
On March 13, 1964, a woman named Kitty Genovese was stabbed repeatedly while several
neighbors were vaguely aware of the unfolding events occurring outside. The lack of action on the
neighbors part led to Genovese dying shortly after. Why did Kitty Genovese s neighbors fail to take
action quickly?
The psychologists John Darley and Bibb LatanГ© (1968) were interested in the Genovese incident
and sought to find the answer to this psychological phenomenon. In their experiment, Darley and
LatanГ© hypothesized that the higher number of bystanders would decrease helping behavior and
vice versa. The two manipulated the number of confederates during each trial and recorded the
time it took for the participants to report the simulated seizure. Their results confirmed that if were
more confederates, each participant would feel less pressured to help, leading to the discovery of
the bystander effect.
The bystander effect is defined as the higher the number of people who notice an emergency, the
less of a chance that those bystanders will help the victim (as cited in Aronson, Wilson, Akert,
Sommers, 2015). The importance of the bystander effect is unparalleled because it determines
whether humans will still help in a situation when there are other people available. Bystanders can
deal with situations ranging from the mundane to the dire, but what matters is the number of those
who take action.
Inspired by the Genovese case, my partner and I wanted to see if the Tufts community, which

ASDA Correspondence Channels
Question 4: Internal communications plays a vital role in creating a unified sense of purpose in
institutions. Clear and effective internal communications are especially important during periods of
relative uncertainty, such as corporate mergers or restructuring, serving to boost employee morale
and keep investors, partners and stakeholders up to date with developments. (Brown, 2002) In
ASDA correspondence channels are formal and casual. The organization perceives the significance
of casual correspondence channels. They convey formal correspondences to empower and provoke
casual dialogs. This constructs solid connections in the middle of representatives and clients to

The Ethics Of Meat-Eating
The ethics of meat eating has not been an excuse to pick apart an old way of life, but has been a
topic of dispute since fourth century BC Athens. According to the book about the history of meat
eating, The Bloodless Revolution, the first chapter of Genesis in the Bible instructed that plants are
for animals, and animals are for humans to eat. This religious and philosophical pillar provided
people a sound reason to utilize humanity s predatory instincts. Yet, some people in the seventeenth
century called for an entire rethinking of human relationship with nature. In fact, important
philosophers like Descartes, Gasendi, and Francis Bacon, all advocated vegetarianism. They

ethical, someone will disagree. I think people should be willing to sacrifice occasional taste for a
more equal and enriching life, but someone will disagree with that as well. It s up to everybody

The Relationship Of Civilization, Nature, And Freedom Of...
The Relationship of Civilization, Nature, and Freedom in The Cherry Orchard In Anton Chekhov s
The Cherry Orchard, the effects of an emerging bourgeoisie is seen in the lives of an aristocratic
family on the brink of losing their home in the Russian countryside. An encroaching
industrialization movement on this landscape, where human concept of the civilized world is
disrupted and in contrast with the natural world, creates tension. The author asks whether or not
these two elements, civilizationand nature, can coexist harmoniously. Human perspectives on this
matter in the play take many different forms and sides, thus creating the trouble that drives the plot
forward to its arguably tragic ending. One major theme in Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard explores
the relationship between an old order, which legitimizes itself in having an intimate relationship
with the natural world and the noneconomic, and a new one in the framing of a disrupted Russian
class system. This clash forces the human perspective of civilization and freedom to change
amongst characters as their idea of what is nature is challenged. Chekhov thus suggests that there is
no true freedom to be found in society, merely differing lens through which to view oneself and the
world around them. Firstly, to understand this relationship, one must understand Chekov s
definition of the new and old orders. His new order, representative of industrialized civilization, is
a place of change and tension, where moving

The Subtext Of Sonnet 130 By William Shakespeare
In the 21st century, literature is imperative to societal development; and, as such, particular styles
of writing appeal to diverse groups of people. Although traditional poetry is debatably obsolete
within contemporary backgrounds, current writers and music artists still employ such methods.
William Shakespeare, for instance, expertly composed a collection of 154 sonnets; their
construction, themes and emotions still effectively pave direction for future literature. Constructed
to communicate contrasting ideals of love, the first 126 texts are based upon stereotypical romantic
embellishment, while the remaining 28 focus solely on the feeling of an emotional connection,
rather than that of the physical. Sonnet 130, in particular, is clearly a parody of the conventional
love story, in which Shakespeare creatively pays a pragmatic tribute to the dark lady . While
implying that his love for her is unconditional despite describing her appearance rather viciously, the
authentic subtext of Sonnet 130 heavily relies on language rather than generic poetic techniques,
and positions readers differently based upon their status within society. During the Elizabethan era,
Shakespeare had two major audiences with visibly dissimilar attitudes and morals, driven by that of
the separation between the lower and upper classes. Sonnet 130, therefore, was intended to
communicate independent readings of love based upon a particular social group and their
interpretation. The noble born

If she remained childless, the throne would be passed down to her protestant half sister,

Unfortunately, this recommended marriage was extremely unpopular and unsuccessful. When
Mary Tudor married King Philip, the English people were frightened that the inquiry would be

The English parliament forbid Philip to be crowned equally with Mary, giving him little power

Discuss the meaning of the verse preceding the essay. The verse talks about how man is his own,

The Council interprets the constitution and determines if laws passed by parliament are in

Parliament for revision. The council also examines candidates for public office and determines if
they are capable.
The Judiciary branch is mainly controlled by the Supreme Leader who appoints the head of the
judiciary. The head of judiciary will then appoint the head of the Supreme Court and the head
prosecutor. The public courts deal with the civil and criminal cases. Special Clerical courts will
function independently of the judicial framework and only to the supreme leader they cannot be

Introduction
Smooth muscle contraction occurs when calcium is present in the smooth muscle cell and binds onto
calmodulin to activate myosin light chain kinase (Wilson et al., 2002). Phosphorylation of myosin
light chains result in myosin ATPase activity thus cross bridge cycling occurs causing the muscle to
contract (Horowitz et al., 1996). There are two known models of excitation and contraction in
smooth muscle, electromechanical coupling (EMC) and pharmomechanical coupling ... Show more

Next, to determine if contraction via the EMC pathway requires extracellular or intracellular
calcium, the second type of stimulus was used and the tissue was stimulated using calcium free K+
depolarising solution. The bathing solution in this experiment was calcium free solution to make
sure all extracellular calcium was eliminated, as without calcium, the EMC pathway is expected to
produce no response.
The second experiment sought to determine whether calcium entry is via L type calcium channels,
therefore, verapamil (10 5 M) was used to block these channels. The tissue was then stimulated
using 0.2ml of Ach (10 5 M) and K+ depolarising solution.
Results
When the tissue was immersed in calcium free solution and stimulated with Ach via the PMC
pathway, a small contraction (1.15g) was observed compared to the baseline contraction trace
(6.37g). Contraction recovered when the bathing solution was changed back to normal Krebs
(5.63g). For the next stimulus, K+ depolarising solution, the baseline control produced a force of
6.17g in normal Krebs solution. When calcium free K+ depolarising solution was used to stimulate
the tissue in calcium free solution, via the EMC pathway, the tissue barely contracted at 0.09g. In
the second experiment, verapamil was added to the bathing solution. When the tissue was
stimulated by Ach in the presence of verapamil, it

The Great Moai Statues Of Easter Island
Similarities and differences are what make things so interesting. Would you be happy if everyone
was the same. Every looked the same, and liked the same things and hated the same things. No
you wouldn t because you would want to be you and no one can tell you what you want to be or
what you don t want to be. Even the buildings you make would be the same from a normal house
to a normal office building. The Panama Canalwas one of the most useful canals ever built and
they were made to for one reason and that was to transport goods. This was somethings everyone

In Jean Luc Godard s Alphaville, a secret agent, Lemmy Caution, infiltrates a city controlled by a
super computer called Alpha60. He is sent to Alphaville posing as a journalist to investigate its
residents and encounters a conflict of human emotion versus logical machines.
The weapon of choice for both man and machine is knowledge that the other does not possess. This
knowledge is marked throughout the film by Caution s observations as he deciphers how Alpha 60
reinforces logical thinking by eliminating emotional ideas. These observations are Godard s
epistemological representation of what can only be known to humans and never grasped by
computers.

The Charity Bowery By Lydia Maria Child
Although slaves were able to obtain religious agency, they were still oppressed due to the
different kinds of abuse they experienced such as emotional abuse. In Charity Bowery by Lydia
Maria Child, Child is retelling a story of an aged colored woman, Charity Bowery, from New
York. In Bowery s story she says, Sixteen children I ve had, first and last; and twelve I ve nursed
for my mistress. From the time my first baby was born, I always set my heart upon buying
freedom for some of my children. I thought it was of more consequence to them than to me; for I
was old, and used to being a slave. But mistress McKinley wouldn t let me have my children. One

allow her to purchase her own children. Bowery had to endure that pain of seeing her children
be sold away, one after another. This can be seen as mental abuse because Bowery had some
hope that she would be able to purchase at least one of her children s freedom, but was not able
to do so. Instead, she had to watch her children be taken away from her. Because of this mental
abuse, Bowery was oppressed due to the fact that she was not allowed to buy any of her children,

The Smarter Generation Is Not The Dumbest Generation
The dumbest generation is not the Millennials. Indeed this generation is smarter than previous
generations because of better technology, and better learning of new vocabulary on everything
that we watch and play as on video games, TV shows, we are always learning new stuff every
time. New generation s also have proof that we are more intelligent in test that people have taken
to compare older IQ levels and newer generations IQ levels. There can be some proof that this
generation is getting lazier and learningis lacking and we always depend more on our phone, but in
my opinion we are still the smartest generation yet. Is this generation the dumbest yet to come?
No. people do not think the Millennials are the dumbest generation in fact, this generation is
thought to be smarter than previous generations. Millennials have so many things that this
generation has improved that has also made millennials smarter, everything they do makes them
smarter each time just like playing video games which you always remember on how to pass a
mission, which you remember that last time you died when you made a wrong move so
obviously next time you won t go through that spot or you won t do the same act that got you
killed in your other game life. Newer generations also have proof to tell the older generations that
they are smarter because of proof that we have betterIQ levels than the older generation, yes older
generations can say that this new generation may be dumber, but they just have opinions not
facts at all, but us, we have facts that we are smarter. IQ score have been on the rise since 1930s
(B, Begley). With this evidence it is more valuable than any of Bauerlein s claims because they are
just his opinions against actual evidence that has been tested by scientist to actually approve that
we are getting smarter. Also video games have helped us a lot in improving our skills and better

The Mann Act Analysis

of 1910. Although the original law was created a long time ago, recent additions make it much
stronger. The Mann Act makes it a felony to knowingly persuade, induce, entice, or coerce an
individual to travel across state lines to engage in prostitutionor attempts to do so. It is an effective
tool used to prosecute human traffickers ( Polaris, 2015). According to Vanderbilt Law Review, the

The TVPA stated that if convicted of human trafficking, a defendant could be sentenced up to
twenty years in prison, and if death resulted or if the violation includes kidnapping and/or
aggravated sexual abuse, the defendant could be imprisoned for any term of years up to life.
Furthermore, perpetrators who use children younger than fourteen for human trafficking purposes
can receive any term of imprisonment up to life. The TVPA provides a maximum five year
penalty for those who unlawfully destroy, conceal, remove, confiscate, or possess another s official
documents. It also permits a court to require a defendant to pay restitution to a victim of human
trafficking for the full amount of the victim s losses as determined by a court. By increasing the
authority of prosecutors in human trafficking cases, Congress has hoped to deter human traffickers
and realize a corresponding decrease in the prevalence of this crime. Although there are many more
laws, these are just three that work to protect the victim and try to put an end to such a dangerous
business (Homeland, 2015). Conclusion
Human trafficking is a dangerous, demeaning trade. It is highly visible to the public. However,
people turn a blind eye, despite all of its repercussions. Saving the victims, and punishing the
traffickers, pimps, and johns takes time and can be a complicated process, but it is immensely
worthwhile. Prevention through education is a key component in order to put a stop to human
trafficking once and for all. The many laws and organizations are also essential in protecting victims
and bringing justice. Human trafficking can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime. However, right

The life of Jane Austen is a very interesting story and many would say that Jane Austen wasn t

her writings and publishments; most of her novels were not open to the public during her
lifetime. She was born on December 16th of the year 1775, and she was the seventh child to a

that single women would have a harder time getting to live in an estate and that they were most

Paul s Discourse Against Slavery
Interestingly, Paul does not deliver a discourse against slavery but instead teaches on how we are
to relate to each other in Christ. Eventually, Paul was prepared to write to Philemon to explain
what they needed to do to have an exceptional relationship with Onesimus. However, Onesimus
conversion had made a genuine difference in his life that made him consider himself and others
differently, including Philemon. Paul knew by having a different concept of slavery and how to
treat others who are in authority is truly a blessing to for Onesimus and Philemon to know. As a
result, all such authority begins with God, for there is no authority except from God (Rom 13:1).
Paul mentioned that Onesimus at one time was not useful to Philemon, but

The Problem Of Child Labor Laws Essay
i.In developing countries, such as in India, child are are forced to work, often as the result of a
system of debt bondage where their family trades a small amount of money with an individual
and in return, their child is sent away to work, and some of these families will never see their
child again. Many of these children, due to the either the lack of regulation or as a result of a
country simply turning a blind eye to the reality of child labor that violates child labor laws . As
we saw in the video from class about the chocolate child labor farmers, many of these children
engage in backbreaking work, from sunrise to sunset, and as a result lose their childhood, their
ability to go to school, their ability to play with other kids, because of the debt bondage their
family agreed to. This is what was experienced by Iqbal Masih. As a four year old boy, his
parents sold him into debt bondage for 600 rupees, or less than $6, to an employer who owned a
carpet weaving business. Corsaro explains that child labor is especially desired in the carpet
weaving business because they can squat easily, and their nimble fingers can make the smallest,
tightest knots . He woke up before dawn and made his way, bound in chains, down to the factory
for work. He worked at that faculty for 6 years, working 12 hours a day, everyday. At the age of
ten, he found out that bonded labor was illegal, and tried to escape. After escaping, he made a
decision to help others like him, and as a result,

Fifth Business
Fifth Business: The consequences of guilt All actions have consequences. Sometimes one does not
have to participate in the action, but only be related, and the crime committed can have serious
consequences for everyone. The consequence, or lack of consequence, is determined by one s
upbringing. This is clearly the case present in Robertston Davies Fifth Business. Although Boy
committed the crime, Dunstan feels a profound sense of guilt about the snowball incident. On the
other hand, Boy obliterates his guilt. Guilt and lack of guilt can clearly be seen through character s
lives, relationships and philosophies. The guilt felt by Dunstan altered the way he lives through his
complete devotion for Mary Dempster. Dunstan s guilt is the... Show more content on

It was characteristic of Boy throughout his life that he was always the quintessence of
something that somebody else had recognized and defined (Davies 113). He believes that he is
in control of every situation, but inside he cannot control his guilt that is still buried deep inside
himself. Contrary to Dunstan who feels responsible for problems, Boy runs away from his
problems by keeping himself busy. The death of Leola, his wife, clearly shows Boy s fear of
facing problems, for his does not show up for her funeral, Boy was in England, arranging
something or other connected with his Ministry, and duty and the difficulty of transatlantic
flights in wartime kept him there (Davies 194). Boy still yearns for fulfillment even though he
achieves greatness in terms of his financial success and his outward appearance. He says, I feel
rotten. I ve done just about everything I ve ever planned to do and everybody thinks I m a
success... But sometimes I wish I could get into a car and drive away from the whole damned
thing. (Davies). Boy knows that deep inside he is very unsuccessful. As he gets older, he is
supposed to be wiser, but his commitment to achieving the external greatness has stopped him
from being fully satisfied. There is an immense difference in the lives of Boy and Dunstan. Boy s
focus on his external being causes him live an unfulfilled life, like a boy who cannot see that there is

The Motif Of Water In The Assault By Harry Mulisch
In Harry Mulisch s novel The Assault, Mulisch expands on the historical event of the murder of
Fake Kirst who was assassinated on the streets of Amsterdam by Grommet Krijger through the life
of Anton Steenwijk following World War Two. Throughout the novel Mulisch takes advantage of
numerous motifs and expands their ability through a longstanding motif of water. He uses these
themes to develop the central characterAnton who works to conquer history and his own past. The
motif of water is a strong decision by Mulisch that broadens the novel s overall depth and meaning .
Within the first episode Mulisch introduces the concept of water as Anton is trapped in a prison
cell as, He opened his eyes wide to see, but the darkness filled them like black ... Show more

Contrasting to other uses of the motif of water, the quote is not a direct action or movement that
Anton does, instead it is a short passage from a monologue that Mulisch has inserted on the
perception of the past and the future. As later in the quote Mulisch presents that one faces the void
and the past is only visible in memory (151). Subsequently Mulisch has tardily ended the ongoing
question of viewing and facing both the past and the present and the importance of understanding
that it is impossible to steer one s own ship into the waves of the future simply due to the waves do

Vladimir Lenin And The Bolshevik Revolution
According to the History.com Staff, The October Revolution began on November 6 and 7, 1917
(or October 24 and 25 on the Julian calendar). (Russian Revolution ). The October Revolution has
also been called the Bolshevik Revolution since the Bolshevik Party played a crucial role in the
revolution. The leader of the Bolshevik Party, Vladimir Leninwas a big supporter of Karl Marx.
Another Marxist who leads this revolution was Leon Trotsky. In an article by the History.com
Staff, Lenin had created an, almost, bloodless coup d Г©tat against the provisional government. (
Russian Revolution ). The Bolshevik revolution started when, Alexander Kerensky, rather than
follow an order. On October 24th, Kerensky ordered troops that were loyal, to act against the
Bolshevik. Encyclopædia Britannica tells us that, Kerensky was a socialist revolutionary who
served as head of the Russian Provisional Government. ( Aleksandr Kerensky ).
According to History.com Staff, The provisional government had created a group of leaders from
Russia s bourgeois capitalist class. Lenin would alternatively call for a Soviet state that would be
controlled directly by councils of workers, peasants, and soldiers. ( Russian Revolution ). Both
decided that the Soviets was going to be a useful instrument in the next revolution. They didn t want
the Soviets to have all the power until they could control them. In the book, Rise and fall of
Communism 2009, Archie Brown shows us that, On 12 October, according to the old calendar,
Trotsky took command of the Military Revolutionary Committee of the Petrograd Soviet and on
25 October...the Bolsheviks seized power in Petrograd (Brown 51). Insurrection was to start, but
there were complications with the date set. In the book, The History of the Russian Revolution
1960, Leon Trotsky says, At a session of the Petrograd Soviet on the 18th, Trotsky, in answer to a
question raised by the enemy, declared that the Soviet had not set a date for an insurrection, in the
coming days, but that if it became necessary to set one, the workers and soldiers would come out
as one man (Trotsky 162). There were forty thousand workers in the army of Petrograd.
On the 22nd of October, there was a meeting of the Red

African American Vernacular English (Aave)
African American Vernacular English
The United States of America is one of the world s most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations.
Even though there is not an official national language, most Americans speak Standard American
English (SAE). However, the most prevalent native English vernacular dialect in the United States
is African American Vernacular English(AAVE). According to Sharon Vaughn, AAVE is a dialect
used by some African Americans (110). In order to examine AAVE, one must explore the origins,
grammatical features, and prominent resolutions, which created a precedent for educating students
that speak dialects other than Standard American English.
For years, scholars and sociolinguist partook in debate over the ... Show more content on

Wolfram notes that double negatives are never interpreted as positives (305). An AAVE speaker
may say, Wasn t nobody in there but me and him to express that no one was in there but him and me.
The final and most recognizable trait of AAVE is the use of the habitual be. The habitual be
conveys events that happen routinely. Jack Sidnell offers several examples in African American
Vernacular English Ebonics. He illustrates, Standard English present perfect: He has been married.
AAVE been: He been married (Sidnell). In the Standard English sentence the implication is that, he
is now no longer married. However, in the AAVE sentence the implication is quite the opposite: he
is still married. The four above mentioned grammatical features are not the only rules that AAVE
speakers follow, but these rules are the most common and recognizable traits of AAVE.
As aforementioned, AAVE is the most prevalent native English vernacular in America.
Consequently, educators often encounter AAVE speakers and writers in their classrooms.
Educators must inform students that their home language is not Standard American English and
create effective classroom methods to educate non native SAE speakers. Faced with these constant
occurrences, the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) issued a
statement on students rights to their own language. The resolution states:
We affirm the students right to their own patterns and

Big Boy s History And The 5c Framework
Introduction
Representatives from Northlich and Frisch s expressed that over the 40 year life of the Frisch s
Big Boy brand, Frisch s has neglected managing their marketing strategy and research. As a result,
Frisch s marketing style has remained relatively unchanged for decades. Frisch s seeks to attract
consumers in the millennial cohort. To implement the changes required to appeal to this new
market, Frisch s will benefit from understanding the following elements of the 5C framework:
company, climate, customers, collaborators, and competitors. This competitive analysis will

Brand recognition is a powerful asset for these firms. To maintain recognition and manage cultural
shifts, franchises in the full service sector often make subtle changes to their logos over time.
These slight changes go unnoticed by the seasoned consumers, but appeal to emerging consumer
segments and modern perceptions (see Appendix A). Northlich s makeover initiatives for Frisch s
are valuable, positive changes to open the Frisch s aesthetic to new audiences (see Figure 1).
Unfortunately, these changes did not occur over an extended period of time and are immediately
visible for all consumers. These changes have faced opposition from older consumers as a result.
Frisch s traditional marketing strategies are not suited for millennial consumers because the
millennial market did not exist when the original marketing strategies were implemented. Changes,
like up dating the Big Boy mascot, are necessary to appeal to Frisch s target millennial market.
This industry is moderately regulated (Alvarez, 2016). The food industry as a whole, including full
service restaurants have been affected by the public and political discussions of GMO (genetically

group; their high value for healthy and authentic food options becomes are more significant driver

The First Amendment Rights
Our world is changing and so are our rights. The First Amendment, freedom of speech, is taking the
world by storm. Whether it be at sporting events or on college campuses, our First Amendment
rights must be upheld. College is meant to provide each student with knowledge; ensuring they
experience viewpoints from thousands of people, and taking away our First Amendment rights is
taking away our opportunity to learn and further our education. 2017 isn t the first time the First
Amendment has been brought up for debate on college campuses. Kent State is one of the most
violent and unconstitutional violations of First Amendment rights on a college campus. The
spirited young adults protesting the war at Kent State were not rebelling, they were only sharing the
knowledge they valued deeply. Students were killed and nine injured when members of the Ohio
National Guard opened fire during a demonstration protesting the Vietnam War. (Rosenberg). The
students protesting the Vietnam war were giving others the opportunity to see something from a
different perspective; this is the goal for liberal education. These student s ideas were suppressed
and limited because they were not popular ideas. The goal of getting a higher education is to
expand your thoughts and experience different beliefs. Not only were lives taken this day, but
opportunities to learn and change the world. The Kent State students were only trying to help
others understand their antiwar convictions. Taking away these

Memis and colleagues (2004) investigated the effects of adding dexmedetomidine (0.5Вµg/kg)
to 40 ml 0.5% lignocaine during Bier`s block. They found significant shortening of the sensory

(6.5В±2.1 min), with prolonged sensory and motor block recovery times, prolonged tolerance
for the tourniquet and improved quality of anesthesia in the dexmedetomidine group. Time to

concluded that Dexmedetomidine as adjuvant to IVRA, effectively improved onset of block,
prolonged duration of block and reduces the need for postoperative analgesia. In our study the
sensory block onset time in LD group was(56В±2.9 sec) which is shorter than the sensory block
onset time in the dexmedetomidine group in Memis and college study this can be explained be
the fact that we used double the dose of dexmedetomidine which they used [15]. Esmaogluand

Social Consequences During The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was the transmission process of manufacturing, this took place in the
1700s and the 1800s. Before this time, manufacturing was done in a small level, usually done in
people s homes, using the truest and basic forms of machinery. But in the Industrialization age,
there was a shift to powerful, multi purpose machines, and big factories. This Industrial age brought
forward thousands of jobs for the men, women, and children. The Industrial Revolutiondid bring a
surplus and diversity of manufactured goods and improved the living in some of the middle class
and the wealth, but it also resulted in the atrocious living and working conditions for the poor and
working class. During the Industrial Revolution, the population in England doubled, between 1800s
to the 1850s. this increase of population shocked people in during that time. This increase of
population was one of the main reasons for social consequences during the industrial revolution.
For the first time in human history most people lived in urban centers. This change altered the
social relations that maintained in villages and small towns. In the growing cities during the
industrial revolution, the people had a greater sense of freedom, but also grew a sense of
alienation. Many of the people growing in these cities were poor former peasants, they lived in
horrible conditions; unsanitary, crime infested, overpopulated, and alcohol soaked urban slums.
These social consequences conditions were

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telecommuting At Three...
The article highlights the advantages and disadvantages of the phenomenon of telecommuting at
three different levels: the individual, organizational, and societal level. First, Harpaz explains that
telecommuting does not have single definition because of the sheer number of tasks that can now
be carried out remotely and the number of ways in which this can be achieved (Harpaz, 2002, pp.
74 75). Although, telecommutinghas no single definition according to Harpaz, one underlying
understanding is that telecommuting in the today s society is accelerated by the development of
online technological devices (Harpaz, 2002). Next, Harpaz provides lists the advantages and
disadvantages of telecommuting at the individual level and provides brief explanations for them.
For example, autonomy/independence is an advantage that allows the individual s control over
work [to] occur more freely and naturally (Harpaz, 2002, p. 75). In conclusion, Harpaz asks
rhetorical questions that should be used to identify the type of individuals and jobs that are
suitable for electronic work (e work). Specifically, he asks about individual personality variables for
workers and managers of telecommuting jobs in order to determine to guarantee the success of
telecommuting jobs.

Examples Of Dualism In Star Trek
In the Star Trek episode that was viewed, it turns into a question if Data should have the
authority to choose if he can be knocked down as an approach for his friends to learn more about
him. Maddox signals Data on it and has a disagreement that the technology perhaps is used to
establish a force of androids that would support their search farther. Everybody who sees this
episode realizes that Data appears and operates like a natural and ordinary human. A dualism
aspect is presented when Captain Picard mentions that he thinks that Data has the option to say no
to being disassembled. According to Hasker (1983), Dualism begins by taking quite seriously that
human beings have both physical properties and mental properties (Husker, 1983). He continues
by observing that this is opposed to other assumptions like that of idealism and behaviorism which
weaken the two together into one. (Hasker, 1983). Dualism is made clear more when Hasker
states that, physical properties are properties of the body, while mental properties are properties of
the mind, (Hasker, 1983). Picard applies dualism to illustrate that Data is... Show more content on

Materialism does not deny that humans have both mental and physical attributes but says that
both are attributes of the same thing namely, the living human organism (Hasker, 1983, p.69

opposed to simulating thought processes (p. 70). Knowing this is what Maddox uses to deny
that Data even has a soul, he believes that Data is the property of Starfleet and can be used as
they see fit. This means that Data does not have free will and therefore does not have the right to
refuse being disassembled and cannot quit from Starfleet. It is said in the chapter by Maddox and
Commander Riker that Data is just a group of chips, wires, and programming, and only looks

  • 2. The Interconnectedness Of Cultural Anthropology And Folk... The chief concern of this paper is to explore the interconnectedness of cultural anthropology and folk literature. There are many essays that have already shown the interrelationship between folklore and anthropology1. Both these umbrella terms have many things in common but when it comes to folk literature and cultural anthropology, some distinctions become apparent. To say, hence, this paper is different in a sense that instead of dealing with the broad areas of folkloreand anthropology, it looks at their branches and explores interconnectedness between them. Before moving further, one needs to understand the area of folklore and folk literature. American Folklore Society (AFS) defines folklore as the traditional art, literature, knowledge, and practice that is disseminated largely through oral communication and behavioral example . It clearly hints that folklore is a broad term which includes all the types of expressions whether oral, written, visual, or performative. This leads to an inference that folk literature is one of the branches of folklore which deals with verbal and written expressions. Similarly, anthropology is a jacket term which means a study of humanity including the prehistoric to contemporary, whereas the cultural anthropology is one of its four branches which aims to understand and define why a certain group behaves differently from the other group. These clarifications lead to another inference that though both anthropology and folklore study human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rutherford s Lab Essay 1. Choose one of the two shapes above and draw what the path of the marbles might look like if someone repeated the process we used in class. Include at least 10 marble rolls. Make sure that there would enough evidence to estimate the size, shape, and location of the object. Explain your rationale in between 5 7 sentences. Based on the path of the marbles in the diagram, there is enough evidence to estimate the size of the shape, based on where the marblebounces off of the shape and where the marble rolls past the shape. You can also use this method to determine the approximate location of the shape. In the diagram that I drew, you would be able to determine that the shape isn t located towards the top or bottom of the cardboard and that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In what ways did this activity represent a model for Rutherford s efforts to determine the structure of the atom? What type of thinking and evidence (direct or indirect) were necessary in order to draw conclusions in both situations? This activity is a model for Rutherford s experiments to determine the structure of the atom because in the activity, we rolled a marble towards a shape that we could not see in order to determine its size, shape, and location, just as Rutherford observed how particles bounced off of or went through a sheet of gold foil, in order to determine the size, shape, and properties of atoms. We used the angles at which the marble bounced off of the shape in order to determine the properties of that shape in our activity, and in Rutherford s experiments, he observed how the particles bounced off of or went through the gold foil, in order to determine the atom s properties. Also, we used a piece of cardboard to cover our target because Rutherford was not able to see the atoms that he was studying. In order to draw conclusions in both situations, you need to determine what makes the marble or particle roll or travel the way it does. For example, in the experiments, if the particle went straight through the gold leaf and in our activity, if the marble rolls straight through the cardboard, you can infer that the particles and the marble didn t hit the target. However, if the marble or particle bounced off of the target at an angle, you need to be able to use those angles to determine what shape and size the target is and where it is ... The thyroid gland is located inferior to the thyroid cartilage of the larynx and anterior to the trachea and it is the gland responsible for regulating metabolism. The pituitary gland becomes a major player as well because the thyroidgland can only release its hormones from hormones from the anterior pituitary gland (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle, 2013). What Is Oedipus False Certainty Bernard Knox states that Oedipus fall was due the claim that, [T]hese attributes of divinity knowledge, certainty, justice are all qualities Oedipus thought he possessed and that is why he was the perfect example of the inadequacy of human knowledge, certainty, and justice. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles, Oedipusbelieved that he possessed certainty of knowledge and justice due to his hubris, which led to his downfall. Oedipus tragic downfall came about from his false certainty of knowledge, his incautious judgement and actions, and delusion of self justice. • 6. How Does Atticus Show Real Courage Q1 I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see through it no matter what. (pg. 112)Those are the words that Atticus Finch a lawyer in a small town in Alabama, called Maycomb used to describe what real courage is. For Atticus being a lawyer is fighting for what is right whether if you win or lose. Atticus shows what real courage is in Harper Lee s story To Kill a MockingBird. Atticus is one of many characters in To Kill a MockingBird that shows courage throughout the whole story, such when he defends Tom Robinson in a court case.. Atticus knows Tom is innocent and wants to defend him, since no one else wants to. Like he said to his son Jem Q2 Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit em, but remember it s a sin to kill a mockingbird. (pg.119)What he means by that is that if you know someone hasn t done anything wrong and you do something wrong to them, it s a sin. He shows courage by helping an african american in a court case accused of raping a white woman with the only evidence to help is Tom Robinson s word for it. This shows courage because not many would have taken the task of that difficult case and have to hear what people say about them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Atticus arrives at the scene of where the mad dog is and he takes the risk of whether saving people or causing the dog to get even madder. • 7. No Match For The Power Of Lobbying Seattleites would soon find that public opinion was no match for the power of lobbying: So, an unholy alliance downtown business groups, large companies like Boeing (whose interest in Seattle transportation begins and ends with getting commuters through it quickly), the antediluvian WSDOT, craven SeattleCity Council members, craven state legislators like Ed Murray (who sponsored the tunnel bill and is now mayor), and head cheerleader Gregoire bullied the tunnel back onto the agenda, and Seattle voters, sick to f ing death of arguing about it, finally voted in 2011 to allow it to go forward (Roberts 1). It had been somewhat of a political miracle that it had ever passed in the first place. The so called Seattle process, in which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Six years after several groups called for the shutdown of the Viaduct over the fact that it may collapse imminently, its replacement was finally approved; the Viaduct, however, was still standing. The construction of the tunnel started with both banging and whimpering. At the christening ceremony of Bertha, the name of the machine designed to bore through the Seattle underground, WSDOT communications head KaDeena Yerkan pleasantly told reporters We know exactly the path of Bertha and what she ll encounter along the way, (Esser 1). At that time in July of 2013, the tunnel project was expected to be completed within fourteen months. Immediately after Bertha began chugging its way through the Seattle dirt, it ran into twin issues. First, a mechanical issue, namely a clog in the conveyor screw; that was quickly fixed. However, a struggle for jobs between the longshoremen unions and the building trade unions led to the longshoremen picketing the tunnel project and halting work until late September. Washington Governor Jay Inslee, by this point the third governor since the 2001 earthquake that cracked the Viaduct, remarked, I have been increasingly frustrated by this situation, and I know that Washingtonians feel this same frustration to the nth degree, he said Tuesday. • 9. The Crisis Of The Caribbean Crisis in the Caribbean Just before 5pm on January 12, 2010, a fierce earthquake struck Haiti. It was the worst earthquake to hit the region in two hundred years. The death toll was over two hundred thousand people. Haiti resides in the area of responsibility (AOR) of SOUTHCOM, the Department of Defense s geographic combatant command for the South American and Caribbean region. Since the natural disaster took place in SOUTHCOM s AOR, the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff (CJCS) appointed SOUTHCOM as the DOD s lead agency. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of this was just to organize the Combatant Command Headquarters. A Joint Task Force still needed to be stood up and damage on the ground still needed to be assessed in order to determine what kind of aid Haiti was going to need. Selecting the JTF Commander was pretty easy for SOUTHCOM. LTG Keen was identified as the JTF Commander for a plethora of reasons. He had vast experience in the region, had built a personal relationship with the Commander of the MINUSTAH contingent and he was on the ground in Haiti when the earthquake happened. Once identified as the JTF H Commander, LTG Keen had to start piecing together a capable Joint Task Force. Pieces of the puzzle, such as the USS Carl Vincent, the 22nd and 24th Expeditionary Strike Forces as well as a BCT from the 82nd Airborne Division were identified almost immediately as parts of the newly formed JTF. After reading this case study and some articles online, I initially thought that the Department of Defense s response was going to be a huge failure. Failure in the sense that this Geographic Combatant Command (GCC) was undermanned and unprepared and this was going to cost the people of Haiti dearly due to the delayed response times while this GCC was getting fully manned and properly organized; then I looked at the timeline. It is astonishing what was accomplished so quickly by both the DOD and SOUTHCOM. Were they fully prepared for the crisis? No. Were they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Materialism In Alexander Pope And Pope s Rape Of The Lock The views of women have altered over time, but have always had objectifying tendencies. During the 18th century, cosmetic alteration to natural beauty peaked and materialism heightened throughout societal views. Authors such as Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift vividly spew these views throughout their writings. Pope s Rape of the Lock exposes the materialism used in objectifying women, mainly in the upper class societal levels. The whole plot of the story centers around a cosmetic appearance creating an objectified view, as since the lock of hair was cut from a womans head, the missing lock became, so called, evidence of a man s sexual conquest. This elevation highly represents the overall theme that materialism plays an almost biblical role in society. The other way to analyze the list is that the Bibles are brought down to the very materialistic level of the other listed cosmetics. Another aspect to note is that Bibles is plainly listed, not the first or last mentioned item, but somewhere in the middle. Both ways conclude that the cosmetic, material items compare at the same level as the Bible s paired along with them. Another list comes with a comparison of paired items that contradict each other s importance; ... Or stain her honor, or her new brocade,/ forget her prayers, or miss a masquerade, / Or lose her heart, or necklace, at a ball;... (Pope II 106 107). The first description used in each line is something of importance, as staining honor, forgetting prayers or losing her heart all have serious implications and consequences. But then those more serious actions are paired with trivial material ones; staining a new brocade, missing a masquerade or losing a necklace at a ball. The material actions paired with important ones really unify them as being on the same level of importance. The contradiction is removed and materialism is elevated. Objectification of women goes hand and hand with materialism. When Pope speaks of the sexual conquests in The Rape of the Lock, he only focuses on the material aspects that result ... On March 13, 1964, a woman named Kitty Genovese was stabbed repeatedly while several neighbors were vaguely aware of the unfolding events occurring outside. The lack of action on the neighbors part led to Genovese dying shortly after. Why did Kitty Genovese s neighbors fail to take action quickly? The psychologists John Darley and Bibb LatanГ© (1968) were interested in the Genovese incident and sought to find the answer to this psychological phenomenon. In their experiment, Darley and LatanГ© hypothesized that the higher number of bystanders would decrease helping behavior and vice versa. The two manipulated the number of confederates during each trial and recorded the time it took for the participants to report the simulated seizure. Their results confirmed that if were more confederates, each participant would feel less pressured to help, leading to the discovery of the bystander effect. The bystander effect is defined as the higher the number of people who notice an emergency, the less of a chance that those bystanders will help the victim (as cited in Aronson, Wilson, Akert, Sommers, 2015). The importance of the bystander effect is unparalleled because it determines whether humans will still help in a situation when there are other people available. The Relationship of Civilization, Nature, and Freedom in The Cherry Orchard In Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard, the effects of an emerging bourgeoisie is seen in the lives of an aristocratic family on the brink of losing their home in the Russian countryside. An encroaching industrialization movement on this landscape, where human concept of the civilized world is disrupted and in contrast with the natural world, creates tension. The author asks whether or not these two elements, civilizationand nature, can coexist harmoniously. Human perspectives on this matter in the play take many different forms and sides, thus creating the trouble that drives the plot forward to its arguably tragic ending. One major theme in Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard explores the relationship between an old order, which legitimizes itself in having an intimate relationship with the natural world and the noneconomic, and a new one in the framing of a disrupted Russian class system. This clash forces the human perspective of civilization and freedom to change amongst characters as their idea of what is nature is challenged. Chekhov thus suggests that there is no true freedom to be found in society, merely differing lens through which to view oneself and the world around them. Firstly, to understand this relationship, one must understand Chekov s definition of the new and old orders. The Subtext Of Sonnet 130 By William Shakespeare In the 21st century, literature is imperative to societal development; and, as such, particular styles of writing appeal to diverse groups of people. Although traditional poetry is debatably obsolete within contemporary backgrounds, current writers and music artists still employ such methods. William Shakespeare, for instance, expertly composed a collection of 154 sonnets; their construction, themes and emotions still effectively pave direction for future literature. Constructed to communicate contrasting ideals of love, the first 126 texts are based upon stereotypical romantic embellishment, while the remaining 28 focus solely on the feeling of an emotional connection, rather than that of the physical. Sonnet 130, in particular, is clearly a parody of the conventional love story, in which Shakespeare creatively pays a pragmatic tribute to the dark lady . While implying that his love for her is unconditional despite describing her appearance rather viciously, the authentic subtext of Sonnet 130 heavily relies on language rather than generic poetic techniques, and positions readers differently based upon their status within society. During the Elizabethan era, Shakespeare had two major audiences with visibly dissimilar attitudes and morals, driven by that of the separation between the lower and upper classes. Sonnet 130, therefore, was intended to communicate independent readings of love based upon a particular social group and their interpretation. The noble born ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The bathing solution in this experiment was calcium free solution to make sure all extracellular calcium was eliminated, as without calcium, the EMC pathway is expected to produce no response. The second experiment sought to determine whether calcium entry is via L type calcium channels, therefore, verapamil (10 5 M) was used to block these channels. The tissue was then stimulated using 0.2ml of Ach (10 5 M) and K+ depolarising solution. Results When the tissue was immersed in calcium free solution and stimulated with Ach via the PMC pathway, a small contraction (1.15g) was observed compared to the baseline contraction trace (6.37g). Contraction recovered when the bathing solution was changed back to normal Krebs (5.63g). For the next stimulus, K+ depolarising solution, the baseline control produced a force of 6.17g in normal Krebs solution. When calcium free K+ depolarising solution was used to stimulate the tissue in calcium free solution, via the EMC pathway, the tissue barely contracted at 0.09g. In the second experiment, verapamil was added to the bathing solution. When the tissue was stimulated by Ach in the presence of verapamil, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A differencethey had was that they were built for different purposes and they had their own different struggles. Predominantly, The Panama Canal was one of the greatest structures built by mankind. • 31. Symbol Of Knowledge In Alphaville In Jean Luc Godard s Alphaville, a secret agent, Lemmy Caution, infiltrates a city controlled by a super computer called Alpha60. He is sent to Alphaville posing as a journalist to investigate its residents and encounters a conflict of human emotion versus logical machines. The weapon of choice for both man and machine is knowledge that the other does not possess. This knowledge is marked throughout the film by Caution s observations as he deciphers how Alpha 60 reinforces logical thinking by eliminating emotional ideas. These observations are Godard s epistemological representation of what can only be known to humans and never grasped by computers. The books, in the context of Alphaville, contain a language known only to the secret agents and are a symbol of knowledge. In order for Caution to save Natasha from Alphaville he must reveal their poetic meaning. Another book, the dictionary, which replaces the bible in every hotel room, is Alpha60 s way of censoring language and controlling thought. The dictionary also marks knowledge as something found in a language of exact definition, a form of linear or logical thinking. • 32. The Charity Bowery By Lydia Maria Child Although slaves were able to obtain religious agency, they were still oppressed due to the different kinds of abuse they experienced such as emotional abuse. In Charity Bowery by Lydia Maria Child, Child is retelling a story of an aged colored woman, Charity Bowery, from New York. In Bowery s story she says, Sixteen children I ve had, first and last; and twelve I ve nursed for my mistress. From the time my first baby was born, I always set my heart upon buying freedom for some of my children. I thought it was of more consequence to them than to me; for I was old, and used to being a slave. But mistress McKinley wouldn t let me have my children. One after another one after another she sold em away from me. Oh, how many times that womans broke my heart! (Child, p 12). Bowery is explaining to Child the various times her owner would not allow her to purchase her own children. Bowery had to endure that pain of seeing her children be sold away, one after another. This can be seen as mental abuse because Bowery had some hope that she would be able to purchase at least one of her children s freedom, but was not able to do so. Instead, she had to watch her children be taken away from her. Because of this mental abuse, Bowery was oppressed due to the fact that she was not allowed to buy any of her children, and was given false hope. Mental abuse is also seen in Josiah Hensons autobiography when he says, The day for the execution of the penalty was appointed. The Negroes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

New generation s also have proof that we are more intelligent in test that people have taken to compare older IQ levels and newer generations IQ levels. There can be some proof that this generation is getting lazier and learningis lacking and we always depend more on our phone, but in my opinion we are still the smartest generation yet. Is this generation the dumbest yet to come? No. people do not think the Millennials are the dumbest generation in fact, this generation is thought to be smarter than previous generations. Millennials have so many things that this generation has improved that has also made millennials smarter, everything they do makes them smarter each time just like playing video games which you always remember on how to pass a mission, which you remember that last time you died when you made a wrong move so obviously next time you won t go through that spot or you won t do the same act that got you killed in your other game life. Newer generations also have proof to tell the older generations that they are smarter because of proof that we have betterIQ levels than the older generation, yes older generations can say that this new generation may be dumber, but they just have opinions not facts at all, but us, we have facts that we are smarter. The Mann Act makes it a felony to knowingly persuade, induce, entice, or coerce an individual to travel across state lines to engage in prostitutionor attempts to do so. It is an effective tool used to prosecute human traffickers ( Polaris, 2015). Furthermore, perpetrators who use children younger than fourteen for human trafficking purposes can receive any term of imprisonment up to life. The TVPA provides a maximum five year penalty for those who unlawfully destroy, conceal, remove, confiscate, or possess another s official documents. It also permits a court to require a defendant to pay restitution to a victim of human trafficking for the full amount of the victim s losses as determined by a court. By increasing the authority of prosecutors in human trafficking cases, Congress has hoped to deter human traffickers and realize a corresponding decrease in the prevalence of this crime. Although there are many more laws, these are just three that work to protect the victim and try to put an end to such a dangerous business (Homeland, 2015). Conclusion Human trafficking is a dangerous, demeaning trade. It is highly visible to the public. However, people turn a blind eye, despite all of its repercussions. Saving the victims, and punishing the traffickers, pimps, and johns takes time and can be a complicated process, but it is immensely worthwhile. Prevention through education is a key component in order to put a stop to human trafficking once and for all. The Problem Of Child Labor Laws Essay i.In developing countries, such as in India, child are are forced to work, often as the result of a system of debt bondage where their family trades a small amount of money with an individual and in return, their child is sent away to work, and some of these families will never see their child again. Many of these children, due to the either the lack of regulation or as a result of a country simply turning a blind eye to the reality of child labor that violates child labor laws . As we saw in the video from class about the chocolate child labor farmers, many of these children engage in backbreaking work, from sunrise to sunset, and as a result lose their childhood, their ability to go to school, their ability to play with other kids, because of the debt bondage their family agreed to. This is what was experienced by Iqbal Masih. As a four year old boy, his parents sold him into debt bondage for 600 rupees, or less than $6, to an employer who owned a carpet weaving business. Corsaro explains that child labor is especially desired in the carpet weaving business because they can squat easily, and their nimble fingers can make the smallest, tightest knots . He woke up before dawn and made his way, bound in chains, down to the factory for work. He worked at that faculty for 6 years, working 12 hours a day, everyday. In an article by the History.com Staff, Lenin had created an, almost, bloodless coup d Г©tat against the provisional government. ( Russian Revolution ). The Bolshevik revolution started when, Alexander Kerensky, rather than follow an order. On October 24th, Kerensky ordered troops that were loyal, to act against the Bolshevik. However, the most prevalent native English vernacular dialect in the United States is African American Vernacular English(AAVE). According to Sharon Vaughn, AAVE is a dialect used by some African Americans (110). An AAVE speaker may say, Wasn t nobody in there but me and him to express that no one was in there but him and me. The final and most recognizable trait of AAVE is the use of the habitual be. The habitual be conveys events that happen routinely. Jack Sidnell offers several examples in African American Vernacular English Ebonics. He illustrates, Standard English present perfect: He has been married. AAVE been: He been married (Sidnell). In the Standard English sentence the implication is that, he is now no longer married. However, in the AAVE sentence the implication is quite the opposite: he is still married. The four above mentioned grammatical features are not the only rules that AAVE speakers follow, but these rules are the most common and recognizable traits of AAVE. As aforementioned, AAVE is the most prevalent native English vernacular in America. Consequently, educators often encounter AAVE speakers and writers in their classrooms. Educators must inform students that their home language is not Standard American English and create effective classroom methods to educate non native SAE speakers. College is meant to provide each student with knowledge; ensuring they experience viewpoints from thousands of people, and taking away our First Amendment rights is taking away our opportunity to learn and further our education. 2017 isn t the first time the First Amendment has been brought up for debate on college campuses. Kent State is one of the most violent and unconstitutional violations of First Amendment rights on a college campus. The spirited young adults protesting the war at Kent State were not rebelling, they were only sharing the knowledge they valued deeply. Students were killed and nine injured when members of the Ohio National Guard opened fire during a demonstration protesting the Vietnam War. (Rosenberg). The students protesting the Vietnam war were giving others the opportunity to see something from a different perspective; this is the goal for liberal education. These student s ideas were suppressed and limited because they were not popular ideas. The goal of getting a higher education is to expand your thoughts and experience different beliefs. Not only were lives taken this day, but opportunities to learn and change the world. The Kent State students were only trying to help others understand their antiwar convictions. • 51. Essay On Prilocidine In Axra Geze et al (2012) found tramadol better block than fentanyl in axillary plexus block as regards quality [9]. Pitakanen et al (1992) in a study evaluated the effect of adding fentanyl to prilocaine for IVRA and reported no significant benefit on duration of postoperative analgesia [10]. In a study by Sztark et al (1997) assessed the efficacy of adding fentanyl and pancuronium in reducing the concentration of lignocaine used for IVRA. Their main objective was to measure efficacy of adjuvants and successful regional anesthesia with lower concentration of lignocaine. They also recorded that time to first postoperative need for analgesic was not significantly different between the two groups [11]. The use of О±2agonist as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Memis and colleagues (2004) investigated the effects of adding dexmedetomidine (0.5Вµg/kg) to 40 ml 0.5% lignocaine during Bier`s block. They found significant shortening of the sensory block onset time in the dexmedetomidine group (4.4В± 2.1 min) compared to control group (6.5В±2.1 min), with prolonged sensory and motor block recovery times, prolonged tolerance for the tourniquet and improved quality of anesthesia in the dexmedetomidine group. Time to first analgesic requirements was significantly longer in dexmedetomidine group. They concluded that Dexmedetomidine as adjuvant to IVRA, effectively improved onset of block, prolonged duration of block and reduces the need for postoperative analgesia. In our study the sensory block onset time in LD group was(56В±2.9 sec) which is shorter than the sensory block onset time in the dexmedetomidine group in Memis and college study this can be explained be the fact that we used double the dose of dexmedetomidine which they used [15]. Esmaogluand coworkers (2005) studied the effect of a higher dose of Dexmedetomidine on 40 patients scheduled for elective hand surgery. IVRA was achieved using 3 mg/ kg lignocaine diluted with saline to a total volume of 40 mL either alone in the control group or + 1 Ојg/kg dexmedetomidine in the dexmedetomidine group. They recorded no difference between the groups with respect to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Social Consequences During The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution was the transmission process of manufacturing, this took place in the 1700s and the 1800s. Before this time, manufacturing was done in a small level, usually done in people s homes, using the truest and basic forms of machinery. But in the Industrialization age, there was a shift to powerful, multi purpose machines, and big factories. This Industrial age brought forward thousands of jobs for the men, women, and children. The Industrial Revolutiondid bring a surplus and diversity of manufactured goods and improved the living in some of the middle class and the wealth, but it also resulted in the atrocious living and working conditions for the poor and working class. During the Industrial Revolution, the population in England doubled, between 1800s to the 1850s. this increase of population shocked people in during that time. This increase of population was one of the main reasons for social consequences during the industrial revolution. For the first time in human history most people lived in urban centers. This change altered the social relations that maintained in villages and small towns. In the growing cities during the industrial revolution, the people had a greater sense of freedom, but also grew a sense of alienation. Many of the people growing in these cities were poor former peasants, they lived in horrible conditions; unsanitary, crime infested, overpopulated, and alcohol soaked urban slums. These social consequences conditions were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telecommuting At Three... The article highlights the advantages and disadvantages of the phenomenon of telecommuting at three different levels: the individual, organizational, and societal level. First, Harpaz explains that telecommuting does not have single definition because of the sheer number of tasks that can now be carried out remotely and the number of ways in which this can be achieved (Harpaz, 2002, pp. 74 75). Although, telecommutinghas no single definition according to Harpaz, one underlying understanding is that telecommuting in the today s society is accelerated by the development of online technological devices (Harpaz, 2002). Next, Harpaz provides lists the advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting at the individual level and provides brief explanations for them. For example, autonomy/independence is an advantage that allows the individual s control over work [to] occur more freely and naturally (Harpaz, 2002, p. 75). In conclusion, Harpaz asks rhetorical questions that should be used to identify the type of individuals and jobs that are suitable for electronic work (e work). Specifically, he asks about individual personality variables for workers and managers of telecommuting jobs in order to determine to guarantee the success of telecommuting jobs. Analysis of source (Does this source pass the CRAAP test? Explain.) • 54. Examples Of Dualism In Star Trek In the Star Trek episode that was viewed, it turns into a question if Data should have the authority to choose if he can be knocked down as an approach for his friends to learn more about him. Maddox signals Data on it and has a disagreement that the technology perhaps is used to establish a force of androids that would support their search farther. Everybody who sees this episode realizes that Data appears and operates like a natural and ordinary human. A dualism aspect is presented when Captain Picard mentions that he thinks that Data has the option to say no to being disassembled. According to Hasker (1983), Dualism begins by taking quite seriously that human beings have both physical properties and mental properties (Husker, 1983). He continues by observing that this is opposed to other assumptions like that of idealism and behaviorism which weaken the two together into one. (Hasker, 1983). Dualism is made clear more when Hasker states that, physical properties are properties of the body, while mental properties are properties of the mind, (Hasker, 1983). Picard applies dualism to illustrate that Data is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Materialism does not deny that humans have both mental and physical attributes but says that both are attributes of the same thing namely, the living human organism (Hasker, 1983, p.69 70). Maddox could be arguing whether Data or any other computer, is able really to think as opposed to simulating thought processes (p. 70). Knowing this is what Maddox uses to deny that Data even has a soul, he believes that Data is the property of Starfleet and can be used as they see fit. This means that Data does not have free will and therefore does not have the right to refuse being disassembled and cannot quit from Starfleet. It is said in the chapter by Maddox and Commander Riker that Data is just a group of chips, wires, and programming, and only looks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
