a document attesting to the fact that a person has
completed an educational course.

Certification, in its broadest sense, can
be understood to mean “a credential awarded by
an employer, a vendor, or an association or
independent agency.”

ASTD Competency Model
                                                         Roles
    The nine                are groupings of targeted competencies. They are not job
 modules of the               titles. An individual’s job may encompass one or more
ASTD Learning
                           roles, similar to different "hats" that one might have to wear.
   System and
  CPLP exam
align to the nine
     AOEs.


                                                   Areas of Expertise (AOEs)
                                             are the specialized knowledge/skills an
                                             individual needs over the foundational
                                             competencies. An individual may need
                                                 expertise in one or more areas.
