The aortic arch is the curved portion of the aorta that begins at the level of the second sternocostal joint and ends at the fourth thoracic vertebra. It has three branches: the brachiocephalic artery, left common carotid artery, and left subclavian artery. The brachiocephalic artery divides further into the right common carotid artery and right subclavian artery, supplying blood to the arms and head. The subclavian arteries pass under the clavicles and become the axillary arteries. The origins and branches of the aortic arch develop from the embryonic aortic arches between the carotid and subclavian arteries.
