Strategies for scaling a blended learning pilotcschneider36
This white paper—commissioned by the Cities for Education Entrepreneurship Trust (CEE-Trust)—examines
potential responses to the challenges of growth by examining four approaches to scaling a successful blended learning
initiative. Any of these approaches might be used alone or in combination with others, but the most promising efforts
will be those that combine elements from all four approaches into a coherent, overall strategy.

Blended Learning Implementation for Elementary SchoolsDreamBox Learning
Integrating blended learning into an existing curriculum can be both a difficult and beneficial task. Though it is a rapidly growing instructional model, the many different approaches to implementation can make finding the right solution can feel like going on a treasure hunt without a compass. Who better to lead you on your Blended Learning journey than education advocate, advisor, and author of Getting Smart: How Digital Learning is Changing the World, Tom Vander Ark?
Attendees of yesterday’s webinar participated in an active discussion lead by Tom about best practices for implementing Blended Learning. Tom shared different approaches for blended learning implementation through an analysis of several elementary school case studies. He demonstrated how blended learning can improve teaching, benefit student learning, and assist in transitioning to the Common Core Standards. Tom covered the impact of gaining real-time data on each student’s progress and how this affects teaching methods and practices. He also provided a critical evaluation of adaptive learning tools at the core of successful blended learning models. Watch the webinar to learn how to distinguish which blended learning model(s) are appropriate for your students.
Quotes from the Session:
“Yes, that’s me…trying to get up to date with tech!! here in rural NH. Thank you for the advice!”
“We appreciate everything that you have shared!! I am finding that Blended Learning is a concept that needs to be embraced K-20!”
“Thanks for all the info and Caroline for links! Especially helpful to hear about pitfalls of buying devices with no clear plan”
During Eyebeam Art + Technology Digital Day Camp 2011, twenty NYC teens spent three weeks working under the
guidance of a team of creative mentors to produce a series of deep, media-rich stories
about our NYC neighborhoods. Their stories became part of a web-based, interactive
map that included photographs, drawings, videos, music, games, words, infographics,

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Innovations to Spread:
Program model-
Best practices culled from 3 iterations of Kickflip in a curriculum/ toolkit that provides
everything other organizations need to create a project that helps them harness the
strengths of hard to reach youth populations and to adapt the program to serve their
youth.
Research and Approach-
How does an interest driven, connected learning program such as KICKFLIP impact
students for whom school is not a safe or constructive learning environment? How
does it use their strong identity to support their development and expand their ideas
of their skillsets?
How can similar youth populations can be connected with opportunities to grow their
skill sets, connect with adult mentors invested in their ongoing development, and
access alternative pathways to academic and career success?
28. *
Research-
1- Capture students’ own changing feelings about their capacity to learn and engage in a
program over time
2- Look at the application of students’ focus, determination, and resilience as it applies both
to their sport and to their work in the program.
3- Determine what practices directly contribute to the program success.
4- Articulate how interest driven, connected learning opportunities such as KICKFLIP can
impact students for whom school is not a safe or constructive learning environment and how
similar youth populations can be connected with opportunities to grow their skill sets, connect
with adult mentors invested in their ongoing development, and access alternative pathways
to academic and career success.
5- Explain how projects like coding and game design harness existing assets and help
support growth in new directions

• Hand over day to day operation to HHF- secure ongoing funding and build up their
organizational capacity
• Meet with other educators for ideas on how to adapt program
• Share, spread, and disseminate curriculum and research
