Year 10 Applied Chemistry
Students learn about the main types of chemical bonding which combine atoms together to form new substances. They learn to write formulae of chemicals and balanced chemical equations: HCl + NaOH  NaCl + H 2 O They learn about different materials and their uses in society. They are introduced to chemical analytical techniques including titrations. They investigate corrosion and applications of redox chemistry.
Students thinking of studying Chemistry in VCE should choose this elective; however, it is not a pre-requisite subject. Applied Chemistry is a great subject for students interested in chemical analysis, materials and their uses and chemistry experiments. It can be combined with any other elective subject and goes well with either Physics or Biology related subjects.
Assessment includes topic tests, experiment reports, data analysis tasks and examination.
