This study examined the sexual identities, orientations, risks, and condom use of 250 clients of transgender sex workers in Jakarta, Indonesia. The clients were on average 27 years old, over 50% had completed high school or more, and most were married but living separately from their wives. Oral and anal sex were common sexual behaviors with the transgender sex workers. Over 80% had multiple encounters but only 50% always used condoms during anal sex. About half identified as heterosexual and most others as bisexual. The clients felt most sexually attracted to and fantasized about women. While their behaviors involved risks, their identities suggested sex with transgender sex workers was a substitute for sex with women.

TITLE: #BeTheChange: Why ‘think’ gender?
OBJECTIVE:
• To understand how media individuals of all genders can be the change in what-they-do
• To understand why feminist approaches are no longer a choice, but an imperative for each one of us for human rights and development justice
• To understand if we do not ‘think’ gender (regardless of our own gender and sexual identities, orientations, and expressions) we might miss important insights into our own reports/ writings/ coverage

Gender sensitizing "is about changing behavior and instilling empathy into the views that we hold about our own and the other genders." It helps people in "examining their personal attitudes and beliefs and questioning the 'realities' they thought they know.
Our University (SNDTWU) is a member of UniTwin (http://www.unitwin.net) and as a part of which we have been doing a global project of Unesco IPDC titled "Mapping Educational Strategies for Creating Gender-sensitive Journalism, Media and ICT Curriculums". This presentation was used at the Workshop.
In modern era, electronic media is significant part of our life & a key to change the society.
The role and status of women in any society can be studied through the images of women which the media projects.
But the presentation of women in the media is biased because it emphasises women’s domestic, sexual, consumer & marital activities to the exclusion of all else.
Gone are days when boys are made of "snips and snails and puppy dog tails" and girls are made of "sugar and spice and everything nice"... or are they? Children are barraged with messages about gender and heterosexual norms everywhere they go - their homes, their schools, the media, and more. Do you know what hidden lessons they are learning? How do gender and sexuality affect everything from boys struggling in school to girls dropping out of the STEM pipeline, from sexual harassment to anti-gay bullying, from eating disorders to plastic surgery? How do parents, guardians, teachers, and schools provide safe environments for positive self esteem, healthy identity development, and acceptance of differences?
An introductory presentation on thinking about and understanding cultural differences, mainly based on the survey of existing literature on the subject.
Gender sensitization presides over gender sensitivity, the modification of behavior by raising awareness of gender equality concerns. This can be achieved by conducting various sensitization campaigns, training , workshop, programs etc.

Sex is good, healthy, natural. And yet, we managed to transform the act of making love and babies in one of the most sinful activity on the planet.
Our sex education is now mostly done through male-gaze porn.
Lingering myths about menstruation and sexuality lead to terrible consequences. And women even experience an orgasm gap!
So how do we shift the sex balance? How do we promote more sex positivity and happiness?

Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Migrant Workers’ Wives on HIVAIDS in Bang...Md. Tarek Hossain
In Bangladesh, the targets under MDG-6 are to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases by 2015 and reverse the spread of the diseases. The increasing trend of HIV/AIDS positively indicates that country is on the brink of a nationwide crisis. Mobility is a key structural factor that has been linked to increased HIV incidence and vulnerability globally. Bangladeshi migrant workers suffer problems found among other internal and international migrant groups including socioeconomic and power inequalities, limited social capital, loneliness, and coping with different cultural norms relating to sex. HIV transmission from international migrant workers who have returned and are HIV positive has been mostly restricted to their spouses, although the degree of spousal transmission and couples in which one person is HIV positive and putting the other at high risk has not been evaluated methodically in Bangladesh. Given the large numbers of people on the move, ensuring the rights and access to HIV prevention, treatment and care and support services for the wives of these migrant workers is a crucial component of an effective regional response to HIV. Therefore, it is important to analyze the knowledge, attitude and practice level of these groups of women. Therefore, the present study aims to analyze the knowledge, attitude and practice of wives of the emigrant workers of Bangladesh and factors that may influence their health decisions. Seven
(7) districts from seven (7) administrative divisions of the country were selected purposively as the study area. The study areas include Tangail (Dhaka division), Comilla (Chittagong division), Moulovibazar (Sylhet division), Meherpur (Khulna division), Dinajpur (Rangpur division), Barisal (Barisal division) and Serajganj (Rajshahi division). Women at their reproductive age from selected households of these seven districts, whose heads are/used to be a migrant worker, was the study subject. Respondents also include health service professionals from the study areas. The general knowledge/ perception, attitudes, and practices were assessed through qualitative study method while a quantitative socio economic survey was also done to attain information related to respondents’ age, education, income and expenditure. The tools include in-depth interview (II), focus group discussion (FGD) and key informant interview (KII). In total,
70 KIIs and 7 FGDs with 63 women participants were done while a short survey of the socioeconomic status of all 133 women was conducted through structured questionnaire.

Transgender is an umbrella term to describe people whose gender identity or gender expression differs from that usually associated with their birth sex. Many transgender people live part –time or full-time as members of the other gender.

Antibiotic Stewardship by Anushri Srivastava.pptxAnushriSrivastav
Stewardship is the act of taking good care of something.
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
WHO launched the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) in 2015 to fill knowledge gaps and inform strategies at all levels.
ACCORDING TO apic.org,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
ACCORDING TO pewtrusts.org,
Antibiotic stewardship refers to efforts in doctors’ offices, hospitals, long term care facilities, and other health care settings to ensure that antibiotics are used only when necessary and appropriate
According to WHO,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a systematic approach to educate and support health care professionals to follow evidence-based guidelines for prescribing and administering antimicrobials
In 1996, John McGowan and Dale Gerding first applied the term antimicrobial stewardship, where they suggested a causal association between antimicrobial agent use and resistance. They also focused on the urgency of large-scale controlled trials of antimicrobial-use regulation employing sophisticated epidemiologic methods, molecular typing, and precise resistance mechanism analysis.
Antimicrobial Stewardship(AMS) refers to the optimal selection, dosing, and duration of antimicrobial treatment resulting in the best clinical outcome with minimal side effects to the patients and minimal impact on subsequent resistance.
According to the 2019 report, in the US, more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur each year, and more than 35000 people die. In addition to this, it also mentioned that 223,900 cases of Clostridoides difficile occurred in 2017, of which 12800 people died. The report did not include viruses or parasites

CRISPR-Cas9, a revolutionary gene-editing tool, holds immense potential to reshape medicine, agriculture, and our understanding of life. But like any powerful tool, it comes with ethical considerations.
Unveiling CRISPR: This naturally occurring bacterial defense system (crRNA & Cas9 protein) fights viruses. Scientists repurposed it for precise gene editing (correction, deletion, insertion) by targeting specific DNA sequences.
The Promise: CRISPR offers exciting possibilities:
Gene Therapy: Correcting genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis.
Agriculture: Engineering crops resistant to pests and harsh environments.
Research: Studying gene function to unlock new knowledge.
The Peril: Ethical concerns demand attention:
Off-target Effects: Unintended DNA edits can have unforeseen consequences.
Eugenics: Misusing CRISPR for designer babies raises social and ethical questions.
Equity: High costs could limit access to this potentially life-saving technology.
The Path Forward: Responsible development is crucial:
International Collaboration: Clear guidelines are needed for research and human trials.
Public Education: Open discussions ensure informed decisions about CRISPR.
Prioritize Safety and Ethics: Safety and ethical principles must be paramount.
CRISPR offers a powerful tool for a better future, but responsible development and addressing ethical concerns are essential. By prioritizing safety, fostering open dialogue, and ensuring equitable access, we can harness CRISPR's power for the benefit of all. (2998 characters)
Medical Technology Tackles New Health Care Demand - Research Report - March 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) predicts that with, against, despite, and even without the global pandemic, the medical technology (MedTech) industry shows signs of continuous healthy growth, driven by smaller, faster, and cheaper devices, growing demand for home-based applications, technological innovation, strategic acquisitions, investments, and SPAC listings. MCG predicts that this should reflects itself in annual growth of over 6%, well beyond 2028.
According to Chris Mouchabhani, Managing Partner at M Capital Group, “Despite all economic scenarios that one may consider, beyond overall economic shocks, medical technology should remain one of the most promising and robust sectors over the short to medium term and well beyond 2028.”
There is a movement towards home-based care for the elderly, next generation scanning and MRI devices, wearable technology, artificial intelligence incorporation, and online connectivity. Experts also see a focus on predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory, and precision medicine, with rising levels of integration of home care and technological innovation.
The average cost of treatment has been rising across the board, creating additional financial burdens to governments, healthcare providers and insurance companies. According to MCG, cost-per-inpatient-stay in the United States alone rose on average annually by over 13% between 2014 to 2021, leading MedTech to focus research efforts on optimized medical equipment at lower price points, whilst emphasizing portability and ease of use. Namely, 46% of the 1,008 medical technology companies in the 2021 MedTech Innovator (“MTI”) database are focusing on prevention, wellness, detection, or diagnosis, signaling a clear push for preventive care to also tackle costs.
In addition, there has also been a lasting impact on consumer and medical demand for home care, supported by the pandemic. Lockdowns, closure of care facilities, and healthcare systems subjected to capacity pressure, accelerated demand away from traditional inpatient care. Now, outpatient care solutions are driving industry production, with nearly 70% of recent diagnostics start-up companies producing products in areas such as ambulatory clinics, at-home care, and self-administered diagnostics.

Sexual Identity, Sexual
Orientation, Sexual Risk
and Condom Use Behaviors
of Clients of Transgender
Sex Workers in Jakarta,
Indonesia
Presented in the 14th session of APCRSHR10
Virtual on 21st December 2020
2. Objectives
• The study examined the components
of the sexual identity, sexual
orientation, sexual risk-taking and
protective behaviors of clients of
transgender sex workers (clients of
TSW) in Jakarta, Indonesia. As one
party in the decision to use condoms
during anal sex to prevent HIV
transmission, clients can play an
important role as a “bridging
population” in the prevention of the
spread of HIV.
• This study, therefore, aims first to
answer the question:
(1) Who are the clients of a
transgender sex worker?
(2) Do they practice risk behavior?
(3) Do they practice protective
behavior by using a condom?
3. Methods
• Clients of TSW (N=250) were recruited and
interviewed by transgender women (waria)
using structured questionnaires, immediately
after completing a commercial sex transaction
with a TSW.
• Collaborated with the waria organization in
Jakarta to get access to the commercial sex
sites and to approach the field coordinators
(“mami”) in the five districts.
• The waria organization informed the mami
about this project and asked their permission
to conduct the study.
• The mami approached the TSWs and explained
the purpose of the study.
• The interviewers contacted the TSW and used
them as the key contact to reach the clients.
A client was interviewed at a railway in East Jakarta
4. Results
• The average age of the clients was 27.28 years,
over 50% had completed high school or more,
most of the clients were married, but only about
11% were living with a wife or regular female
partner.
• Oral and insertive anal sex was the most prevalent
sexual behaviors with TSW, 57% did insertive anal
sex with and they seemed very much to favor to
receive oral sex (95%) from TSW during
commercial sex transaction.
• More than 80% of the clients had more than once
visited TSWs and only 50% of them always use
condoms during insertive anal sex.
• About half of the clients described themselves as
heterosexual, and most others described
themselves as bisexual.
• Overall, the clients felt sexually most attracted to
women, fantasized most about having sex with
women, and felt much more masculine than
feminine. Almost all participants (91.6%) said that
they did not have feminine traits at all.
Figure 1. Feelings of sexually attracted to the three different
types of gender.
5. Discussion
• The clients were young married migrant
workers with a mid-educational level and living
separately from their wives. They described
themselves as heterosexual, and most others
described themselves as bisexual.
• Overall, the clients felt sexually most attracted
to and fantasized most about having sex with
women.
• They felt more masculine than feminine. Oral
and insertive anal sex was the most prevalent
sexual behavior with TSW.
• These findings suggest, they had multiple sex
partners during a period of time, whilst they
did not consistently practice condom use
during every sex act.
• Sex with TSW is primarily a substitute for sex
with women.
Thank you
