12 Angry Men Prejudice
One common theme in 12 Angry Men is prejudice affecting a jury. In the play, a boy is arrested
and placed on trial for the murder of his father. Due to prejudice, most of the jurors immediately
think he is guilty because of his race and where he is from. 12 Angry Men truly exhibits what the
1950s justice system looked like. Through the storyline, prejudice is seen as a way of using
stereotypes to explain how people behave. Reginald Rose shows how prejudice can affect the way
people think. Throughout the play, the juryplays the role of prejudice in the courtroom and how
preconceptions can sway whether a defendant is guilty or not guilty. Juror #10 says such things
like, They re violent, they re vicious, they re ignorant, and

Unit 3 Assignment 1 Vpn Research Paper
A VPN is a secure protected network called a tunnel for communication purposes over long
distances using the Internet as its means of transport. Due to the nature of the communication or
transmissions that are being utilized by say a larger corporation, secure and reliable communication
is a must. In the beginning these VPN connections were established using one or more dial up
modems for users to access the information. Authentication was established by requiring the correct
user name and password. As time went on as always things changed, new technology and advances
in communication as well as equipment allowed the VPN to evolve and expand. To ensure security,
the virtual tunnel is encrypted. VPNs use several protocols in order to encrypt... Show more content

I believe that the VPN and its respective protocols is a very important step towards securing the
Internet and all the data that travels over it every second of every day. In the future I think that
there will be yet a faster, even more secure and reliable private connection, only 15 years ago or
so the VPN was primarily a land line based technology, using common twisted pair for
connection over a modem and going through a tel co switch. In only 15 years we have progressed
to optical networks, wireless networks, VPN networks of varying flavors. VPNs sound secure, and
in theory they are, however, as with all technology and advances made towards protecting our data
from unauthorized access by anyone who is not the intended recipient, is inevitable. Just recently
the VPN protocol was breached, a way around the protocols and encryption was discovered and
exploited. The hackers were able to circumvent two of the most trusted privacy tools on the Internet:
virtual private networks, or VPNs, and Tor, the anonymity software that masks a computers true
whereabouts by routing its Internet connection through various points around the globe, according

Dr. Nanette Metz
Business Dictionary defines internal analysis as a review of an organization s strengths and
weaknesses that focus on those factors within its domain (2014). Conducting an internal analysis
allows organizations to adapt and change the way they conduct business in order to remain
competitive. Internal analysis obtains information from financials, operational and marketing
departments to help management determine strategic planning for future growth. In this paper the
author will discuss an internal analysis of Kraft Foods.

Additionally Kraft Foods opens their plant facilities to other company s allowing for the develop of

Intellectual Resources
Intellectual resources encompass the collective knowledge of the organization that is gained
overtime through experience and education (Xaxx, n.d.). Kraft Foods has a very diverse portfolio
which includes ownership of numerous patents worldwide which covers basic packaging
techniques to processes relating to specific products and the products themselves (Kraft Foods,
2014). These patents protect the unique products of Kraft Foods that distinguish them from their
competitors.
Goodwill
Kraft Foods is a household name that has been around for over 100 years providing consumers
with quality products they demand (Kraft Foods, 2014). Conducting research on trends and
demands has generated trust, respect and goodwill from their consumers allowing Kraft Foods to
become number two in the food industry (Kraft Foods). In addition to goodwill Kraft Foods has
developed strategic alliances with extremely powerful customer, i.e. Wal Mart, which account for
23% of their total net revenues (Kraft Foods Financial Report, 2013). Kraft Foods understands that
the loss of these relationships will generate decreased sales, financial position and operating results

Genophilosophy Essay

ABSTRACT: Contemporary progress in life sciences, particularly in genetic engineering, is
changing our concept of human being and a whole series of other philosophical and common
notions. The conventional idea of subject will no longer be the final reference for philosophical
thinking, since even the subject qua biological or psychological structure will enjoy a high degree
of unpredictability. The results of gene technology require reinterpreting such concepts as
reproduction, individuality, history, freedom and subjectivity. This paper focuses on the question of
freedom, where freedom means the capacity to deliberate and choose between different alternatives
of action. We hold that the issue of freedom is relevant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene technology requires dealing with, and reinterpreting terms such as reproduction, individuality,
history, freedom and subjectivity. Many people consider 1989 as the symbolic turning point, when
the epoch of history and society started to be replaced by the epoch of biotechnology, genetic
engineering or most recently evolution technology. We can say, that we are at the beginning of a
genetic epoch (genepoch) or as Manfred Eigen (Steps Towards Life, Oxford University Press,
1992) calls it the era of molecular biology . In this vision of history, having solved the disputed
questions of society in the practice and theory of democracy, mankind begins a new historical
period, the genetic period, where even the terminology of history will be a completely new kind.
Avant garde philosophers develop a new approach for investigating the genetic structure of all
traditional problems instead of further exploring the society, language, knowledge or physical
world. The protagonists of this new paradigm think, that after such kind of leading principals of
philosophical discussions as democracy , socialism , subject and causal sciences , there will be a
new leading idea, which by the analogy of neuronalism and cognitivism, should be called genetism.
It is not our goal here to review all the possible (medical, social, etc.) implications, which could be
involved in genetic research and in the development of

Muda Saffir s The Monster Men
Everyone wants to be happy. Morals dictate on how one achieve their happiness and what that
happiness means to them. Some people give the priority of their happiness over the well being of
others and feel no remorse to the actions they have taken to become happy. By hurting others for
one s own gain, they become monsters rather than being men. One doesn t need to be evil to
humans to be considered a monster. The treatment that the monsters receive in Edgar Rice
Burroughs The Monster Men , perpetuates the theme that in this story men are the real monsters.
There are times that men make it obvious that they are monsters and will do terrible things no
matter who is hurt. In the beginning, it was quite clear that Muda Saffir was a monster and... Show

It is a classic trope in all kinds of medias to portray the humans, or in this case von Horn, as the
savior and the hero of the story. In the end of the story it is made clear that man is really the
antagonist of the story and the force he is fighting, or Number 13, is the one suffering. ( Humans
Are the Real Monster ). Despite Carl von Horn s previous actions, he was actually a monster
who only wanted to steal the treasure and have Virginia to himself, even if she did not want to
go with him. In some cases the antagonist does not realise that they are in fact the bad guy and
believe that they are in the right. In The Monster Men, von Horn tells a lie to Number 13 that
both von Horn and Number 13 wholeheartedly believed. All this was inspired by the principle
which is quite true in itself that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility;
because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of
their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily, and thus in the primitive simplicity of
their minds they are more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they
themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large scale
falsehoods. ( Adolf Hitler s words in German with English translation ). Number 13 falls for this
big lie that von Horn tells because he doesn t particularly know about immoralities like lieing, so
when von Horn tells him that Virginia, who has not met him at this point, is disgusted by him and
his very existence he believes it. This big lie pulls at Number 13 s conscious throughout the story
but against his better judgement he is able to ignore it and pursue his love for Virginia and
eventually end up being with her as a happy married couple. There are times that those who

The Romantic Era was a literary movement that swept through virtually every country in the 18th
century that encompassed placing importance on the beauty of nature, passion of the imagination
and human emotions. The emphasis was on self expression and individual uniqueness whereas,
society should be driven by passionate emotions rather than strict confining rules and rituals. There
was a great interest in the mysteries of life, intuition and the pursuit of divine revelation whereas,
the spirit of God is present in all humans and animals. God made and loves all creatures great and

Victor assumes the divine right of creation, whereas, the old sailor assumes the divine right of
taking a life (the albatross) for no apparent reason other than a lack of wind. Victor exclaims, It
was a strong effort of the spirit of good; but it was ineffectual. Destiny was too potent, and her
immutable laws had decreed my utter and terrible destruction (23). Victor s consequences or
punishment for defying the laws of nature and creating a monster was to become enslaved by the
unnatural man and is forced to watch his loved ones be murdered one by one, while he remains
powerless to stop the horrible events. The monster passionately seeks revenge against Victor for
abandoning him when the world completely rejects him. The monster exclaims, I am alone, and
miserable; man will not associate with me, but one as deformed and horrible as myself would not
deny herself to me. (171), furthermore the monster explains his intentions, The human senses are

Analysis Of A Lesson Before Dying By Ernest J. Gaines
In the novel, A Lesson Before Dying, Ernest J. Gaines illustrates a young African American named
Jefferson who is caught in between a tragic liquor shootout. Unfortunately, he gets convicted with
murder and sentenced to a death penalty. Grant Wiggins, the local schoolteacher is nominated by
Miss Emma and Tante Lou to help Jefferson become a man rather than a hog before he dies. In
chapters 11 through 21, the plot begins to escalate when Grant begins visiting Jefferson alone in
his cell. When Grant visits Jefferson for the first time without Tante Lou and Miss Emma,
Jefferson releases his aggression towards Grant. He begins to display animalistic behaviors to

He reacts in an accusatory fashion, consistently asking Jefferson if he s trying to make him
susceptible to guilt. In chapter 11, Ernest J. Gaines references Jackie Robinson and Joe Louis
suggesting that in the 1940 s there were a significantly low number of black public figures and
heroes that existed around that time; therefore, Jackie Robinson and Joe Louis assumed the burden
of personifying black individuals in public. Generally, Ernest J. Gaines portrays two ordinary
black men living in the controversial, troubled south as heroic figures. The novel begins to direct
towards the love affair of Vivian and Grant, which happens to seem like a minor Fifty Shades of
Gray temporarily throughout the novel. Ernest J. Gaines portrays their relationship as genuine and
real. Compared to all promiscuous, relationships I ve read throughout the school year, their love
seems more convincing. Even though the entire school is suspicious of their relationship, they
proudly accept it. Throughout the chapters, Grant alternates between wanting to help Jefferson, and
insisting he cannot

Marvel is better than DC. Without a doubt, I can say that Marvel is a better franchise than DC, for
many different reasons. The superheroes Marvel makes have more solid structure, made so that
you can believe that anyone or anything could possibly become a superhero. Exhibit A. Let s
compare Iron Man to Batman, for one they re both rich and have lost their parents, but as known
without the armor or fancy gadgets, Tony Stark (Iron Man) would be a genius, billionaire, playboy,
philanthropist as he said in the Avengers, Bruce Wayne (Batman) would still have his fighting

Prosthetic Limb Research Paper
Andrew Lustig
Professor Mallard
ECE 101
24 October 2012
Can Anybody Lend A Hand? Prosthetic limbs all started with a very simple problem. Do you
just give up hope when you lose an arm or a leg, or is there some other way to make the best of a
situation? Hope was not given up by us persistent human beings and that is how artificial limbs
were thought of. Instead trying to get around, we thought of artificial legs to help those who have
lost them. Instead of only having one arm, we thought of artificial arms to be able to have two
again. Prosthesis not only brought hope to those who were seriously injured and lost their limbs,
but it helped these people bring their lives back to as normal as it could be. Of course prosthesis

So for many years people were content with this simple type of prosthetic limb and it wasn t for
about 500 years until it began to progress into something better. The next wave of prosthesis came
from Ambroise Pare, a Frenchman born in 1510. He was a surgeon for the French Army and was
prominently known for his treatment to gunshot wounds. He also made great progress in artificial
limbs.
His Le Petit Lorrain , a mechanical hand operated by catches and springs was worn by a French
Army captain in battle. He also devised an above knee prosthesis consisting of a kneeling peg
and a prosthetic foot. It had a fixed equinus position, a locking knee and a suspension harness,
features that are still in use today (1117). This hand was the starting point for the advanced
prostheses in existence today as well as the leg he developed. It was the first successful leg to have
the locking knee, suspension harness and the equinus position and it set the bar for other prosthetics
to come. Also Pare was the first to make a prosthesis with joints; The leg he designed for amputation
through the thigh is the first known to employ articulated joints (Wilson Jr. 2). The next wave of
progression with artificial limbs came from the Civil War, and with anesthetics present, the
surgeries were improved tremendously. Also the United States government paid for prosthesis for
war veterans so they became more common. There was

Mass Media Censorship In The United States

religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the

Building a sense of direction in life and a personal identity is difficult when society and media
creates unrealistic models on how to live life, how to learn, and how to think. Media manipulation a
constantly around us and needs to be treated as a problem. Media Literacy means attaining an
understanding of mass media and how they construct meaning requires a critical process that takes
one through the steps of description, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and engagement
(Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). Media is often thought of in broad terms, but it s known that six
corporations owns 90% of media. The six media companies are The Walt Disney Corporation,
Comcast, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS Corporation, and News Corp (Lutz,2012). The
Telecommunication Act of 1996 substantially changed the rules concerning ownership of the public
airwaves because the FCC eliminated most ownership restrictions on radio (Campbell, Martin,
Fabos, 2014). The Act in which overhauled the nation s communications regulations, most regional
and long distance phone companies and cable operators, competed against one another to provide
connections to the Internet. It is amazing and frightening at the same time to know that these six
corporations will continue to dominant 90% of everything an American citizen hears, sees, and
considers meaningful. When corporations turn into an oligopoly, corporations lose the original
purpose for news, which is to inform the public with facts and the act of informing and telling the
truth is determined by money. These corporations are more focused on what media gets them more
viewers and money Media corporations distract the public by reporting news cycles that constantly
switch every day and bombard the public with excessive coverage of absurdity news. These
corporations cut out contrasting educated opinions, newsrooms, and

Lolita Figurative Language
The most obvious feature of Lolita, and the main reason for its staying power, is Humbert
Humbert s striking, complex, and enchanting prose. Humbert diverts the reader from his ugly

wordplay and verbal games force the reader to concentrate on language rather than on him. With
his ability of enchanting words and wordplay, he develops the ability to freeze time and in turn

though he rarely addresses her inner mind or feelings. He notes her bad moods and bad manners,
Humbert nevertheless remains convinced of Lolita s connection to Annabel, adolescent romance
from his younger years. The connection is important to Humbert and Humbert alone; this
strengthens his belief that only a man like himself could truly understand the rareness of a nymphet
like Lolita. This thinking diminishes Lolita to a secretly held idea of Humbert s and this denies her
the chance to grow in her life. The disconnect between Humbert s passionate yet diminishing view
of Lolita the nymphet and Lolita the girl is found in Humbert s language; which glamorizes the
unglamorous point of view of a pedophile. Humbert describes his illicit desires with sophisticated,
striking prose; making the ideas attractive instead of what would otherwise be vile. This effect of
language is particularly notable when Humbert masturbates against Lolita. Despite the troubling

The River Merchant s Wife A Letter By Li Apa Summary
I will be comparing excerpts from The River Merchant s Wife: A Letter by Li Po and The Death
of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jerrell. The speakers in each excerpt are creating serious
and solemn dream like worlds that convey their misery over being abandoned to suffer
impending death alone. Imagery in both excerpts is used differently to describe death as being
either immediate as in Jarrell s poem or approaching as in Li Po s. The major difference between
the speakers in each excerpt is the use of alliteration;.the speaker in Jarrell s poem uses assonance
and consonance effectively to carry the emotional load created by the dark imagery, however, a
loss in translation must be considered with regard to the speaker s voice n Li Po s poem. Both
excerpts utilize a fractured form to allow for the imagining of their life outside of the world
depicted by their words while maintaining the impact of the existence loneliness in their life and
the misery of dying alone. In Jarrell s poem the speaker dies at the end. Therefore, images like
hunched in its belly to show that he is like fallen prey and waking to black flack and nightmare
fighters to show that he is in immediate danger are used to prepare us for the speaker s inevitable
death. In contrast, the speaker in Li Po s poem uses images like leaves fall early this autumn and
already yellow this August to imply that death is approaching but not near enough for portents of
doom. Yet, the poems are very

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Schizophrenia And Illness Anxiety...
I would diagnose Mr Beaver with Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. At first I thought
that Mr Beaver had Somatic Symptom Disorder due to his constant worrying of brain numbness,
but as I looked deeper into his case I believe his symptoms match Illness Anxiety Disorder. I went
back and forth on which disorder he has or if he only had Schizophrenia. As I looked further into Mr
Beavers case I believe he has Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms that are
present that support Schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, and negative symptoms. Mr
Beaver showed two types of delusions. The first type was Persecution. As he was leaving the
doctors he had told other patients that the doctors are out to get them, by saying not to trust the
doctors. He also said that the doctors must all be working together and that they were told not to
tell him what is wrong with him. Both of these symptoms are part of the Persecution Delusion.
Due to this feeling he began to isolate himself in his room due to the fact that it was a safe place
for him. The second delusion is Reference Delusion. It was mentioned that Justin Beaver felt that
the TV was talking to him specifically. Mr Beaver also showed two symptoms for hallucinations.
The first one was Auditory Hallucination. While listening to the radio, Justin Beaver would softly
hear his name being called. As he would go and check out where his name was being called from
he would experience a Olfactory Hallucination.

Royal Stuart Family Influence On Macbeth
William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth was heavily influenced through its setting,
characters, and subject matter by the Royal Stuart Family, which became the first dynasty to rule
both Scotland and England. Many of the names used in this play are actually referencing real
members of the Stuart family who ruled at one point and time. The name Macbethis actually
borrowed from a former king in the Stuart Family named Macbeth, who took over the throne after
coincidently killing his cousin, that happened to be the King, and also happened to be named
Duncan. Shakespeare may have taken the names from history, but what transpired in the play
between the characters of Macbeth and Duncan, along with many others, is not historically correct.

I see how it can dramatically impact the learning on students in a sociology course especially the
teaching about gender. It hard to give a hands off teaching perspective on gender fluidity if you are
so gender focused on one side.
There were three different results to this study. The first one was the teacher s stance on gender
inequality and how they based their teaching decisions off of this factor if they were gender
blind or gender focused. They found it very hard to talk about women and women s issues in
their history classes but they were able to discuss it better in their sociology electives that they
taught. The last thing that they discovered about this study was how it was important to teach a
sociology class in high school to teach the kids about sexism and gender stratification. I think this
last theme is very important to educate our youth on today. A lot has been happening in the last
view years with the women and gender. I know if my school had a sociology class it would have
cut down a lot of the gender ignorance and negativity that especially arises in small communities
like where I grew up.
The impact of the elective in the schools where it was taught was very good. Students got to ask
the questions about gender in a safe area where they were not to be ridiculed and can discusses the
impacts it has had on our society. They found it was easier to talk about gender boundaries and
sexism to students. They also broke down the cultural

The Impact Of Technology On Evolution Of Knowledge
There are many false claims in the science world that goes back and forth on their ideas and
sometimes it s the public s choice to decide which fact is reliable. With research, it is shown that
people believed what others thought were true without needing evidence to back up the claim.
With new technology it became easier for the people to judge which claim is accurate due to the
new science findings that supports that specific subject claim. Scientific facts are explained by
evidence proven by multiple experiments that are tested by many other scientists. If a scientific
claim is proven to be true, why is it that in some cases after years of studying the fact are re
evaluated and proven to be false? To what extent does development of technology play a role in
the evolution of knowledge? How do we know what scientific fact is reliable?
When a new scientific theory or claim is made, the scientist tries to confirm it is the truth by using
new technology to test out their idea. Some of the time, their old claim is outdated or falsified and
they must admit they were wrong. Remember before 2006 people thought Pluto was the 9th planet
from the sun? International Astronomical Union changed the status of Pluto by reclassifying as a
dwarf planet because it did not meet the criteria of a planet. More significant claims have been
made and many people are aware of some well known superseded scientific theories and wonder
why they were believed to be true in the first place.

Minority entrepreneurs have many barriers they have to overcome in order to be successful.
Some typical problems they face are limited access to capital, lower equity investments, and less
exposure to entrepreneurship. Minority entrepreneurs are twice as likely to be turned down for
traditional lending, which can discourage them from even applying for a loan. Not only that but
they are less likely to be considered by traditional or angel investors. They also generally live in
run down areas, with poor schooling and less access to successful people. One entrepreneur who
has hurdled over all the barriers and became extremely successful is Russell Simmons, the co
founder of Def Jam Records.

There hasn t been a label whose fortunes have been so intertwined with hip hops fortune.
However, they were not the first label to put out rap and not as many revolutionary artists as one
might think. So why do they have an almost mythical status? Def Jam got its status because
Simmons recognized the worth of hip hop music, and saw how it could expand into a cultural
revolution. Def Jam s started in Rick Ruban s NYU dorm, with each Simmons and Rubin only
investing a few thousand dollars each. Their first official release was LL Cool J s I need a Beat. It
sold more than 100,000 copies giving Simmons the leverage he needed to cut a deal with CBS
Records for distribution. This deal was the first of its kind for hip hop. Simmons secured Def
Jams future by making clever decisions that seemed insane at the time, such as pairing Run
D.M.C. with Aerosmith on the cover of Walk This Way. The video of this duo finally got hip
hop onto MTV, which had a negative view on rap at the time. Rubin left Def Jam in 1988,
making Simmons the sole head of the company. Simmons also tried his hand in producing
movies; his company s name is Simmons Lathan Media. His first of which was called Krush

Conquest Of Australia
Since the age of long established kingdoms, the strong communities would conquer weaker nations
and rule over them with an iron fist. The conquerors would often suppress the original inhabitants
of the land, by forcing them into slavery, harsh treatment and even, taking of children and young
girls for pleasure. The conquered residents would live in fear, oppression, and ill treatment in their
ancestral land. The modern era, brought about a different mode of the conquering of kingdoms,
with the same devastating effects of inhumane treatment and suffering of the indigenous persons.

The role of engineers is to improve the quality of the lives of the people, by the formulation of
technical solutions to issues facing the society. Although the prevalence of the engineering works
with physical artifacts, the majority of the work lies within the intellectual domain. Further,
engineers offer technical possibilities, which work to optimize the social, environmental
consequences and opportunities to the society. The hallmark of a professional engineer is to apply
and make informed, sustainable and responsible decisions. Engineers ought to uphold and own the
impositions and the consequences within considerable ethical limits of the possibilities produced.
Therefore, prerequisite understanding of what the community has encountered in the past and
continued to endure formulates the basics within which an individual should approach particular
instances. The history of the treatment of aboriginals in Australia expresses the rationale and the
manner in which an engineer should interact and make decisions about the indigenous people.
Engineers should have the ability to discern the particular setting of the people, before the
imposition of ideas and proposals to the local communities, and principally, the aboriginals.
Engineers ought to understand the implications of their actions and impactions, as well as aim to

No treatment plan is the same for every person and every recovery is different as well for
everyone. The changing lives is a transformational documentary about the lives of a few people on
how they got out of addiction. It shows the process through their very compelling group therapy.
But most importantly, what really caught me was the program for the women, that helped them
with treatment when they were at the verge of losing their children.
Body
The group therapy was very compelling to me. I really saw that they were helping one another to
get to the root of each other s problems, digging deep and peeling at the source. Some were very
uncomfortable at first but once they saw that they had a lot of similarities with others, they slowly
started opening up. The therapist was also going deep, but it was for a cause. It was to help them

Wildness Of Minoans Essay
But was it a religious ceremony to show mankind s dominance over nature? Shapland s article
beats back this theory that bull leaping was a way for humans to assert their dominance, strength,
and power over wild bulls. He believes Minoans did not bull leap and create representations of
these leaps due to the tension between man and nature. Nowadays, people have a tendency to
reduce humananimal relations to human symbolism; Shapland calls modern scholars to have a
broader view of bull leaping than of something merely portraying the need of mankind to conquer
the wildness of bulls and the larger world. Moreover, much of the Minoans other art does not reflect
this tension; rather, for scenes depicting marine life, for example, there are aquatic creatures, not
men with nets and hooks trying to catch them; Minoan art is, for the most part, peaceful. Perhaps,
then, bull leaping was something celebrated not because it was man conquering beast, but man
working harmoniously alongside the beast.
Minoan culture is steeped in mystery, and scholarly theories swirl around the limited, archeology
based knowledge we have of these ancient Cretans. The ancient world is a slick and slippery place
for historians due to the lack of records, and we must ultimately admit that we do not and cannot

What Are The Effects Of The Cold War In The 1940s
At the heart of the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union in the 1940s was a
fundamental difference in the ways the great powers envisioned the postwar world. After World
War II countries were in chaos, no one was able to agree on what should happen to the postwar
world. While the Soviet Unionand the United Stateswere allies during the world wars, they were
the one with the biggest issues during the aftermath of the war and their issues ended up becoming
what we now know as the Cold War. Many issues led up to this war and to this day we still suffer
from the war and the American people still fear communism.
To begin with, both the United States and the Soviet Union had their own beliefs about what
would benefit our world during the postwar period. After World War II, both Russia and the
United States competed to be the greatest world power, When two sides competed for influence

Religion s Rise Up And Fall Away
Religions continually rise up and fall away. Mormonism is a recently developed religion that
started in the 1820s. Founded by Joseph Smith while living in New York State Mormonism has
had many struggles due to its radical beliefs that went against orthodox Christianity which at that
time was invigorated with righteous passion. Mormonism was founded while Joseph Smith
lived in Palmyra, NY. Before he lived in Palmyra, he lived in Sharon, Vermont, the place of his
birth. He was born on December 23, 1805 to Joseph and Mary Smith. Shortly after his birth, the
family fell on hard times. The Smith family moved to Palmyra New York and set themselves up
in the only profession they knew, farming. While in New York, his mother attended a
Presbyterian church but the rest of the family went into magic and pursued seekerism and seer
stones. The Smiths went on several treasure hunting expeditions. While on these expeditions, the
family would put seeing stones into their hats believing that they would see a revelation of
where treasure was located. When Joseph was 14, he walked into the woods and prayed to God
for guidance on which church to attend. He received a vision of God and Christ, saying to join
none of them as they were all corrupt. Years later, Smith claims to have been visited by the angel
Moroni. He tells Smith about a set of golden plates containing the history of a ancient South
American civilization. He told Smith where to find a sealed stone box containing these plates.

Hangman Figurative Language
While all people like to believe they are virtuous and honorable, it is often not the case. In fact,
many would rather stand by and watch as unjust treatment occur, thinking it would not affect them.
These people, known collectively as bystanders, are present at the event, but choose to not take
part in it. They often feel remorse for the sufferer, yet would not lend a hand in fear of becoming
one. In The Hangman , a narrative poem by Maurice Ogden, and Eve Bunting s Terrible Things
,figurative language is used to emphasize the significance of bystanders. These literary devices help
develop several cruel yet irrefutable themes. In summary, Maurice Ogden s poem tells the tale of a
Hangman who methodically terminates an entire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, they never even questioned the Terrible Things purpose. When the youngest of the creatures
asked: But why do the Terrible Things take them away? , the response was: ... the Terrible Things
don t need a reason. Just mind your own business... We don t want them to get mad at us (page 2).
This inferior feeling is consistent throughout the story, and restricts the creatures from protesting.
In the end, all but one were taken; however, had they united, it might have been different. Both
texts utilize repetition to develop their respective themes. Maurice Ogden repeats the Hangman
s riddle like answers over and over, exposing the town s ignorance as they abstain from further
interrogation of the foreigner. Comparably, many scenes from Bunting s tale also replays over
and over such as the Terrible Things visits and the animals judgements. Every time a species was
taken, the remaining creatures would always find a flaw of the species to point at; even when
there is nothing wrong, they would have something to discriminate. For example, when the frogs
and fish were taken, their argument was many creatures dislike frogs... and fish are so cold and
unfriendly (page 3). As absurd as the reasons are, the gullible crowds in both stories never fail to
buy into them. Furthermore, when each victim is taken, even though they breathed again for
another s grief... the Hangman s hand was [their] relief (stanza 1, line 6). The same idea is

The Great Gatsby Nick Carraway Narrator
Some would argue the most vital character of the story is the protagonist, however many more
would say it is the narrator. The narrator describes what his happening in the story, and we see
every moment through their eyes. But alas, not all narrators can be trusted. Especially in a time
like when The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, was written. The narrator for this book is Nick
Carraway, who grew up with his well off family in Chicago and then went to Yale. Throughout the
book, he reveals attributes about him that make him seem like a reliable narrator, however he may
very not be.
With the first few paragraphs of the novel, Fitzgerald starts to build a narrator that readers feel
they can really trust. For example, Nick begins the book quoting the advice he received from his
father remember that all the people in this world haven t had all the advantages that you ve had
(Fitzgerald 1). Then he goes on to state that he usually tries to reserve his judgements. One after
another, he stresses that he is not judgemental. Nick also has a secondary role, which means that he
is the one observing most situations rather than taking part in them. Fitzgerald makes him ... Show

Creativity In Schools: A Maltese Perspective

The knowledge and skills needed in the future may not even be known at the time a person attends
school or university. As a result, these institutions cannot limit themselves to the transmission of set
contents, techniques and values, since these will soon be useless or even detrimental to living a

A holistic approach An important distinction needs to be made when dealing with creativity in
schools, that is the difference between teaching creatively and teaching for creativity. Teaching
creatively refers to teachers using imaginative approaches to make learning more interesting,
exciting and effective. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 102). Teachers often need to be highly creative
in order to capture learners interest and attention. Teaching for creativity refers to forms of
teaching that are intended to develop young people s own creative thinking or behaviour.
(NACCCE Report, 1999: 103). The way I see it, teaching creatively is a tool in the hands of the
teacher who wants to make any learning experience meaningful, creative teaching as a means to
better teaching, whereas teaching for creativity implies the inclusion of creativity as a learning
objective in teacher s planning of lesson material. Teaching for creativity must acknowledge a multi
faceted approach to creativity, an approach that takes into account all the aspects of creativity where
education is concerned (Prentice, 2000) 3.
Creativity may be considered as one of the most important targets that education should aim for.
When a teacher aims to stimulate learners creativity, this can be fostered in a variety of ways,
amongst which there is the strategy of regarding students as active consumers of

The History Of Musicals On Stage Is Broad And Extensive. There
The history of musicals on stage is broad and extensive. There are many different histories of stage
musicals: French operettas, Grecian plays, and Roman comedies are just a few. However, I am
going to focus on American musicals. The musical that many Americans are familiar with has its
roots in the French and Viennese operettas of the 1800s, but take their comic style from American
Variety and Minstrel Shows, which led to Vaudeville and Burlesque shows. Known to be the first
American musical, The Black Crook , produced in 1866, proved how profitable the musical theater
could be in the United States. After that the American musical really burst forth, with full length
burlesque shows and British imports of musicals, like... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie Singing in the Rain (1952) even offered a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood in the
late 1920s where the focus was on the transition from silent films to talkies . From the beginning,
audiences embraced screen musicals with tremendous enthusiasm, with The Jazz Singer (1927)
bringing in a slew of newcomer audiences as well as the usual stage musical goers. Even though
the stock market crash of 1929 caused almost a third of movies theaters in the U.S. to shut down,
the industry survived (but barely), because the public would use the few pennies they had to go
see a film that would make them forget the Depression for an hour and a half. Because of this,
film musicals attempted to provide happy and uplifting types of musicals, but they were not
extremely successful. Fast forward to 1933, when the Warner Bros. Studios gave audiences
dance infused musicals, including Forty Second Street , where Busby Berkeley took his
reputation and experience as a dance director for several Broadway shows and helped rebuild
film musicals rapport. Due to the fact that, in the 1940s, America was fully focused on World War
II in one way or another, Yankee Doodle Dandy was produced in 1942 by Warner Bros. Studios,
and was a musical biography of George M. Cohan, The Man Who Owned Broadway . This musical

Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior

In the year 1944, with John Von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern publishing their paper on Theory
of Games and Economic Behavior, foundations of Game Theory was laid. This paper is an attempt
at condensing the fundamentals required to help decision making at early stages of Project
Procurement. With the advent in implementation of Game Theory in real world, new theories have
emerged with Game Theory as their stepping stone. Simple yet important concept such as Nash

It is important that we understand why its creator felt this way, according to them the reason for
this is simply that economics is far too difficult a science to permit its construction rapidly,
especially in view of the very limited knowledge and imperfect description of the facts with which
economists are dealing. Only those who fail to appreciate this condition are likely to attempt the
construction of universal systems.
The Game doesn t always equate to the procedure that results in winning or loosing (which can be
the case many a times). Here the connotation is merely utilized to provide a sense of structure
involving strategies and plans to the whole process. As seen in a general Game, there are players
and payoffs. Players have their strategies for particular situations, which may or may not depend on
the other players moves. One interesting nature of game theory is seen when deciding moves using
predefined strategies; our moves can be independent of those of the opponent s, however, results
occurring due to the combination moves are totally interdependent. This can be confusing but with
understanding this underlining concept of game theory comes into light easily. This phenomenon
is known as Strategic Interdependency. Simply described as: What I do affect your outcome, what
you do affects my outcome.
To understand such subtle complexities, one must be familiar with the knowledge required about

two years research within an array of government agencies, educational institutions and

within these spaces and therein embarked on a critical process of appropriation. As Sultan states,

Family Dynamics And Family Structure
Dear Dr. Parsons,
As a structural functionalist, you mainly study specific societies by classifying the major structures
of society and then asking the question, how does this matter. When studying these families,
however, you undertake that this society blossoms when it is able to maintain social stability and
social integration. Social stability however is valued over changes in time, not just immediately.
This topic of family dynamics and family structure seems to be of great importance to you, and to
be honest, quite important to me as well. To understand your views on the ideal family form, two
assumptions must be made. First, agricultural societies had simple social structures and the typical
individual performed a variation of tasks. Secondly, industrial societies had more convoluted social
structures where one person performs specified and concentrated tasks that contribute to the whole
picture. The nuclear family started to be considered, as the ideal adaptation to surviving in an
industrial society. It consisted of a father, mother, and their children. The traditional agricultural
family consisting of family members that weren t close, extended, did not seem purposeful for the
industrial society as a whole. The agricultural family was distant because older family functions
such as families playing smaller roles in making goods, providing personal care and healthcare,
relaxation activities, and education were all ignored by the family as a whole. Overall, these

The Characteristics Of Cultural Traits Of Cultures
Have you thought of how many varieties of cultures you have? All of your customs are unique
and is formed in your activities that you adore. Everyone has a culture but is manifested in many
ways. According to the text What is Cultural Identity Trumbull and Pacheco declares that you
can imagine culture as invisible webs composed of values, beliefs, ideas about appropriate
behavior, and socially constructed truths (springboard 2010). Traditions define our ethnic
backgrounds with many constructed acts to the meaning of our lives. Cultural Traits govern our
direct perspectives. Two cultural traits that will be described in this essay is language and
foods. The first trait is language. Language is communication either written or spoken and is
part of our cultural identity. Language shows who you are and how you express them. In the
article An Indian Father s Plea it states Windwolf has had trouble writing his name on a piece of
paper, but he knows how to say it and many other things in several different Indian languages
(lake).Sometimes learning a new language could be challenging but in the process you will
grasp the idea of what that new language is. Many are exposed to many languages, for example,
I speak fluent English, but can t speak any other language. The language that my family speaks is
Filipino and Hawaiian. My father speaks Hawaiian. I d like to inspire and encourage others to
keep the Hawaiian language alive. In 2001, native speakers of Hawaii amounted to

In addition, the wait staff was extremely accommodating of any special food preparation requests. It
was a thrill to have our requests carried out with such perfection. A significant negative was the
strong encouragement of the staff to complete the questionnaire at the conclusion of the meal
evaluating the dining experience. Their persistence was unwelcomed at best.
Menu Selections Maggiano s menu has a wide variety of mouthwatering appetizers and entrees,
fresh garden salads, savory soups and decadent desserts. Vegetarians as well as seafood and meat
lovers will find an ample selection of delectable menu selections. Beverage selections were
extensive with the menu offering a wide variety of domestic as well as imported wines at
reasonable prices. For those who prefer non alcoholic beverages, a variety of sodas and designer
waters were readily available with the added bonus of unlimited

The Role Of Nkt Organs In NKT Cells
NKT TCRs are traditionally categorized into two distinct populations based on the TCR gene
usage and antigen specificity, namely the invariant/type I NKT TCRs and diverse/type II NKT
TCRs (Godfrey et al., 2004b). For the past two decades, much of the work in the field of NKT
biology focused on the type I NKT cells largely due to their ability to recognize О± GalCer
loaded CD1d tetramers (Benlagha et al., 2000). While CD1d О± GalCer tetramers still remain as
a major tool to characterize NKT cells, type II NKT cells do not recognize О± GalCer and as a
result, their role in cellular immunity remain largely unknown. Interestingly, type I and type II
NKT TCRs function as two discrete populations where not only do these cells recognize a different

Notwithstanding the concern, JО±18в€’/в€’mice has practically still remained as a primary tool
for understanding the functional relevance of type II NKT cells.
Recent work by Tatituri et al. (2013) have identified several type II NKT cellreactive
phospholipids from the cell wall of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Corynebacterium
glutamicum, thereby provided a direct evidence for the role of type II NKT cells in microbial
infections. These lipids were identified as phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, and
phosphatidylinositol and exhibited reactivity for a range of type II NKT cell hybridomas
(Tatituri et al., 2013). Similarly, Wolf et al. (2015) have described the reactivity of type II NKT
cell hybridomas for phosphatidylglycerol derived from the cell wall of Listeria monocytogenes
(Wolf et al., 2015). While these studies clearly underlined the immunogenicity of type II NKT cells
for microbial antigens, the selectivity and specificity of these lipids remained doubtful largely due
to their abundance in mammalian counterpart (Cox et al., 2009; Gumperz et al., 2000).
NKT cells also exhibit reactivity for a range of О± and ОІ linked glycolipids when presented by
CD1d (Godfrey et al., 2010; Venkataswamy and Porcelli, 2010). The О± glycosidic linkage that

Comparing The Relationship Escalation Model To Knapp s...
Knapp s relationship model explains how relationships grow and last and end. This model will
show you the ten different stages which will show you Knapp s relationship escalation model and

deteriorates. While watching 500 days of summer, the relationship between tom and summer

comes together and comes apart. While watching 500 days of summer the movies send great

Critical Literacy Essay
Premise for Critical Literacy
Critical Literacy has many different forms, and can be very different depending on which
classroom it is taking place in. The basic premise that I acquired from researching critical literacy
is that it requires the literate consumers of the text to adopt a critical questioning approach
(Critical Literacy, 2015). Critical Literacy is forming an individual opinion on a topic that isn t
only superficial, but also in depth and meaningful. Being critically literate isn t about attaining
literacy for the purpose of reading letters on a page, it is to read the words on the page and become
engaged in a discussion formulating opinions and expressing ideas openly. Becoming critically
literate means that an individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A couple of them are Paulo Freire, Allen Luke, Henry Giroux, and Joe Kincheloe. Many of them
share the same beliefs about this topic, but with a different viewpoint. Paulo Freire was a
twentieth century Brazilian educator. He was born September 19, 1921 and died May 2, 1997.
Freire was a leading advocate for critical pedagogy, and contributed to the philosophy of
education from a more classical approach such as Plato and modern Marxist. Freire believed in a
banking method which is compared to students. He viewed students as empty bank accounts
waiting to be filled by the teacher. According to Freire, by filling students with this new
knowledge it transforms them into receiving objects (Paulo Freire, Wiki). Paulo Freire believed
that Critical thinking was not a one way development, not something done for students or to them
for their own good (Freire, 1989, 34). Freire s pedagogy focused on writing, reading, and things
based around the student s life, and not repetitive lecturing. One of Freire s most stressed phrases, I
believe, is reading the world. Something that Paulo says is that when reading words, you are

Benefits Of A New Team
When I was in Noida working for Headstrong, my team used to go out for lunch on special
occasions. As that area had quite many options, sometimes we used to be in a fix as to where to
go. Another reason for long decision making was because different people had their own tastes.
And, few of them had even been to places we were zeroing in on and didn t want to go again.
Now, that was a mess as it would delay our outings that were supposed to become a lifetime
memory for a few at least! We tried to plan well ahead in advance, but that also had issues as
people wanted to delay it to the last minute.
We primarily relied on word of mouth recommendations and what we as a team preferred the
most. All in all, it used to go just fine most of the times. However, i remember one incident when
one of our new team members strongly recommended a restaurant to which his family were
regular visitors for many years. He was giving mouthwatering description of the dishes available
there and most of us melted like butter on a parantha and were looking forward to go there.
Come the D day, being a foodie, i was especially charged up; but there was one delay after another
as few of the folks were held up in meetings. It was way past my usual lunch time and finally, we
went ahead around quarter to 3. We were all very hungry but to our utter disappointment we found
the place closed.
The colleague who had recommended us looked pretty sad and asked nearby shops if the
restaurant had closed for good.

Mao s Last Dancer
In the graphic novel American Born Chinese (2006) by Gene Luen Yang and the full length
autobiography Mao s Last Dancer (2003) by Li Cunxin, both writers use a range of stylistic features
and generic conventions to create a memorable text. A memorable text consists of elements or
issues present in a text, which the reader finds notable or striking. This can be due to a number of
factors, particularly features of the text that the author has altered intentionally to evoke certain
audience emotions. The dominant idea of metamorphosis or transformation presented in ABC are
very much memorable as it coincides with concepts of fitting in and shape shifting into various
social/cultural norms that are deemed in mainstream society as acceptable.... Show more content on

Both texts are similar in the sense that they mutually convey a central theme of breaking the mould
in which they were placed initially and, through differentiating skills, are able to successfully burst
through these casts and redefine standards. Yang s protagonists , (Jin Wang, The Monkey King and
Danny) through numerous internal conflicts, achieve utter satisfaction with the physique they were
born with. So too with Cunxin s recitation of his personal journey of hard work and pure
determination which helped him strive to become one of the most prestigious ballerinos in his time,
leading him to ultimately undertake Westernized standards of dance. Comparably, the creators of
both text types originate from Asian particularly Chinese heritage which further demonstrates
resemblances of social and personal contexts at its provenance. As one text relates primarily to the
struggles of a 2nd generation, young Chinese boy s struggle to fit in into modern American society
/culture where overt and invert forms of racism are present , the other illustrates the tremendous
willpower that another Chinese boy faces to inevitably make the best of forced circumstances and
achieve the virtually

Beowulf Character Analysis
The Great Motivator
(An analysis of Beowulf s Motivations) Are everyone s motivations to become a hero pure? This
question can be hard to answer depending on the hero. Spidermans motivations for saving an
innocent child were pure, but what about people suffering from hero syndrome? A syndrome, that
has become a recent phenomenon. This syndrome makes people seek heroism or recognition by
creating desperate situations that they resolve in order to become a hero. As common as this
syndrome is today, it was not a common syndrome in the tenth century. In the epic poem Beowulf,
translated by Burton Raffel, a mighty warrior named Beowulf fights three terrible monsters.

In Beowulf s lifetime, he killed three terrible monsters. One of these monsters was a great fire
breathing dragon that was hurting his people. The other two monsters were killing people in a
different kingdom. Beowulf is a great warrior and went to assist the other kingdom. Throughout
the epic poem, there is a theme of how will people remember you once you die? This is
important to Beowulf because he needed to set a good example to the warriors, and leave a
legacy for once he was dead. After Beowulf dies in the story, it reads, Crying that no better king
had ever lived, no price so mild, no man so open to his people, so deserving of praise. (867 869)
This is Beowulf s warriors mourning over his death. He had set such a great example to the
warriors on how to be a true warrior that they wept over his death. They have been extremely
mournful since the greatest example, they had ever seen had died. Beowulf s motivation of
becoming an example to the Anglo Saxons before he died through being a great warrior and king
was fulfilled. The example that Beowulf left became a legacy to the Anglo Saxon warriors.
Beowulf was an individual that others aspired to be like. The motivation of Beowulf s to be an
example to all the Anglo Saxon warriors is pure.
Another motivation for Beowulf is that he needed to save his people, even if it meant sacrificing
his own life. With his last fight

Summary Of Gammaherpesvirus
PROJECT SUMMARY The gammaherpesviruses Epstein Barr virus (EBV) and Kaposi s sarcoma
herpesvirus (KSHV) establish lifelong persistent infection in the host and are capable of causing
several lymphomas and neoplasms. Gammaherpesviruses have two distinct phases in the life cycle:
lytic replication and latency. Lytic replication is cleared by the immune system, the virus evades
detection by the immune system and maintains a lifelong persistence in the host by establishing
latency. Viral latency in B cells is the critical event associated with tumorgenesis. The innate
immune system employs the Type I Interferon (IFN) response to combat viral infection. IFN family
of cytokines signals the presence of an intracellular infection and activates the transcription of IFN
stimulated genes (ISGs). ISG products are a diverse collection of proteins that promote antiviral
and immunomodulatory functions. This proposal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of the work characterizing the immune response to KSHV and EBV has been done in
vitro. A critical barrier in the gammaherpesvirus field is the lack of an in vivo immune system to
study KSHV and EBV infection in the laboratory. To investigate how gammaherpesviruses
interacts and modulates the immune response in vivo, a closely related murine
gammaherpesvirus, MHV 68, is used as a laboratory model system. MHV 68 consists of 80 genes
and is genetically more homologous to KSHV than EBV. 60 open reading frames (ORFs) in MHV
68 are homologous to KSHV. The replication lifecycle of MHV 68 mirrors human herpesviruses,
with primary lytic infection in the lungs, latency establishment and maintenance in the spleen, and
viral reactivation mechanisms. While lytic replication is resolved, the virus is able evade immune
detection and persist in the host by establishing latency. Viral latency in B cells is the critical event

Analysis Of Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay
Natalie Lubben
December 5, 2016
Rhetorical Analysis Essay Draft
Slaughterhouse five
War is a virus, a plagues our world and has experienced since the early ages of time. Once a war is
cured a new strain begins stronger and more unforgiving as the last. Humans are creatures of habit
which continue the violence. Kurt Vonneguts novel, slaughterhouse five, is a deliberate and well
developed statement against war as expressed through the tone, rhetoric, and characters, making
anti war a prominent theme through the entirety of the novel. Slaughterhouse five advocates for
the prevention of war and all the terrible consequences that follow. Kurt Vonnegut s seemingly
parallel relationship with the main character of the novel, Billy Pilgrim, and the parallels of
other characters to real life individual paints a more vivid and real wickedness to war. All this
happened, more or less. The war parts, anyway, are pretty much true (1). In the first line of the
novel Vonnegut declares his credibility. In 1944, Kurt Vonnegut served in Europe and fought in the
Battle of the Bulge. After this battle, Vonnegut was captured and became a prisoner of war. He was
in Dresden, Germany, during the Allied firebombing of the city and saw the complete devastation
caused by it. Vonnegut himself escaped harm only because he, along with other POWs (prisoners of
war), were working in an underground meat locker making vitamin supplements. Similarly Billy
Pilgrim, the main character of

Art Therapy And Bulimi The Definition And Categorization...
Art Therapy and Bulimia The definition and categorization of bulimia nervosa (BN) are
addressed in the beginning of the paper. As there are many medical concerns that influence and
accompany treatment, a brief overview of these concerns is provided. Next, the focus shifts to the
population most affected by the disorder and risk factors for development of BN. A discussion of
co occurring disorders follows due to the fact that BN sufferers often experience one or more co
occurring disorders or differential diagnoses that may further complicate a clinician s plan for
treatment. After an explanation of the disorder and its facets, general information about treatment
is described including several therapeutic themes and challenges. Next, specific types of treatment
are discussed, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and
reprocessing (EMDR), and psychopharmacology. An option for adjunctive treatment, art therapy,
is described along with its many advantages for treating clients with BN including the benefit of
clients relationship to the materials. This is further explored by describing art therapists ability to
aid clients in creating boundaries, relating to their bodies, and expressing and managing emotions.
Several aspects of group art therapy are discussed. Then the focus of the paper turns to a variety
of art therapy directives to demonstrate how art therapists can use art as part of the process of
recovery from BN. Finally,

  • 2. 12 Angry Men Prejudice One common theme in 12 Angry Men is prejudice affecting a jury. In the play, a boy is arrested and placed on trial for the murder of his father. Due to prejudice, most of the jurors immediately think he is guilty because of his race and where he is from. 12 Angry Men truly exhibits what the 1950s justice system looked like. Through the storyline, prejudice is seen as a way of using stereotypes to explain how people behave. Reginald Rose shows how prejudice can affect the way people think. Throughout the play, the juryplays the role of prejudice in the courtroom and how preconceptions can sway whether a defendant is guilty or not guilty. • 3. Unit 3 Assignment 1 Vpn Research Paper A VPN is a secure protected network called a tunnel for communication purposes over long distances using the Internet as its means of transport. Due to the nature of the communication or transmissions that are being utilized by say a larger corporation, secure and reliable communication is a must. In the beginning these VPN connections were established using one or more dial up modems for users to access the information. Authentication was established by requiring the correct user name and password. As time went on as always things changed, new technology and advances in communication as well as equipment allowed the VPN to evolve and expand. To ensure security, the virtual tunnel is encrypted. VPNs use several protocols in order to encrypt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that the VPN and its respective protocols is a very important step towards securing the Internet and all the data that travels over it every second of every day. In the future I think that there will be yet a faster, even more secure and reliable private connection, only 15 years ago or so the VPN was primarily a land line based technology, using common twisted pair for connection over a modem and going through a tel co switch. In only 15 years we have progressed to optical networks, wireless networks, VPN networks of varying flavors. VPNs sound secure, and in theory they are, however, as with all technology and advances made towards protecting our data from unauthorized access by anyone who is not the intended recipient, is inevitable. Just recently the VPN protocol was breached, a way around the protocols and encryption was discovered and exploited. The hackers were able to circumvent two of the most trusted privacy tools on the Internet: virtual private networks, or VPNs, and Tor, the anonymity software that masks a computers true whereabouts by routing its Internet connection through various points around the globe, according to findings by Jaime Blasco, a security researcher at AlienVault, a Silicon Valley ... • 5. Genophilosophy Essay Genophilosophy ABSTRACT: Contemporary progress in life sciences, particularly in genetic engineering, is changing our concept of human being and a whole series of other philosophical and common notions. The conventional idea of subject will no longer be the final reference for philosophical thinking, since even the subject qua biological or psychological structure will enjoy a high degree of unpredictability. The results of gene technology require reinterpreting such concepts as reproduction, individuality, history, freedom and subjectivity. This paper focuses on the question of freedom, where freedom means the capacity to deliberate and choose between different alternatives of action. We hold that the issue of freedom is relevant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gene technology requires dealing with, and reinterpreting terms such as reproduction, individuality, history, freedom and subjectivity. Many people consider 1989 as the symbolic turning point, when the epoch of history and society started to be replaced by the epoch of biotechnology, genetic engineering or most recently evolution technology. We can say, that we are at the beginning of a genetic epoch (genepoch) or as Manfred Eigen (Steps Towards Life, Oxford University Press, 1992) calls it the era of molecular biology . In this vision of history, having solved the disputed questions of society in the practice and theory of democracy, mankind begins a new historical period, the genetic period, where even the terminology of history will be a completely new kind. Avant garde philosophers develop a new approach for investigating the genetic structure of all traditional problems instead of further exploring the society, language, knowledge or physical world. The protagonists of this new paradigm think, that after such kind of leading principals of philosophical discussions as democracy , socialism , subject and causal sciences , there will be a new leading idea, which by the analogy of neuronalism and cognitivism, should be called genetism. It is not our goal here to review all the possible (medical, social, etc.) implications, which could be involved in genetic research and in the development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Muda Saffir s The Monster Men Everyone wants to be happy. Morals dictate on how one achieve their happiness and what that happiness means to them. Some people give the priority of their happiness over the well being of others and feel no remorse to the actions they have taken to become happy. By hurting others for one s own gain, they become monsters rather than being men. One doesn t need to be evil to humans to be considered a monster. The treatment that the monsters receive in Edgar Rice Burroughs The Monster Men , perpetuates the theme that in this story men are the real monsters. There are times that men make it obvious that they are monsters and will do terrible things no matter who is hurt. In the beginning, it was quite clear that Muda Saffir was a monster and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a classic trope in all kinds of medias to portray the humans, or in this case von Horn, as the savior and the hero of the story. In the end of the story it is made clear that man is really the antagonist of the story and the force he is fighting, or Number 13, is the one suffering. ( Humans Are the Real Monster ). Despite Carl von Horn s previous actions, he was actually a monster who only wanted to steal the treasure and have Virginia to himself, even if she did not want to go with him. In some cases the antagonist does not realise that they are in fact the bad guy and believe that they are in the right. In The Monster Men, von Horn tells a lie to Number 13 that both von Horn and Number 13 wholeheartedly believed. All this was inspired by the principle which is quite true in itself that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily, and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they are more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large scale falsehoods. ( Adolf Hitler s words in German with English translation ). Number 13 falls for this big lie that von Horn tells because he doesn t particularly know about immoralities like lieing, so when von Horn tells him that Virginia, who has not met him at this point, is disgusted by him and his very existence he believes it. This big lie pulls at Number 13 s conscious throughout the story but against his better judgement he is able to ignore it and pursue his love for Virginia and eventually end up being with her as a happy married couple. The Romantic Era was a literary movement that swept through virtually every country in the 18th century that encompassed placing importance on the beauty of nature, passion of the imagination and human emotions. The emphasis was on self expression and individual uniqueness whereas, society should be driven by passionate emotions rather than strict confining rules and rituals. There was a great interest in the mysteries of life, intuition and the pursuit of divine revelation whereas, the spirit of God is present in all humans and animals. Generally, Ernest J. Gaines portrays two ordinary black men living in the controversial, troubled south as heroic figures. The novel begins to direct towards the love affair of Vivian and Grant, which happens to seem like a minor Fifty Shades of Gray temporarily throughout the novel. Ernest J. The superheroes Marvel makes have more solid structure, made so that you can believe that anyone or anything could possibly become a superhero. Exhibit A. Let s compare Iron Man to Batman, for one they re both rich and have lost their parents, but as known without the armor or fancy gadgets, Tony Stark (Iron Man) would be a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist as he said in the Avengers, Bruce Wayne (Batman) would still have his fighting skills and he does support companies but not to the same degree as Tony. • 11. Prosthetic Limb Research Paper Andrew Lustig Professor Mallard ECE 101 24 October 2012 Can Anybody Lend A Hand? Prosthetic limbs all started with a very simple problem. Do you just give up hope when you lose an arm or a leg, or is there some other way to make the best of a situation? Hope was not given up by us persistent human beings and that is how artificial limbs were thought of. Instead trying to get around, we thought of artificial legs to help those who have lost them. Instead of only having one arm, we thought of artificial arms to be able to have two again. Prosthesis not only brought hope to those who were seriously injured and lost their limbs, but it helped these people bring their lives back to as normal as it could be. Of course prosthesis did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So for many years people were content with this simple type of prosthetic limb and it wasn t for about 500 years until it began to progress into something better. The next wave of prosthesis came from Ambroise Pare, a Frenchman born in 1510. He was a surgeon for the French Army and was prominently known for his treatment to gunshot wounds. He also made great progress in artificial limbs. His Le Petit Lorrain , a mechanical hand operated by catches and springs was worn by a French Army captain in battle. He also devised an above knee prosthesis consisting of a kneeling peg and a prosthetic foot. It had a fixed equinus position, a locking knee and a suspension harness, features that are still in use today (1117). This hand was the starting point for the advanced prostheses in existence today as well as the leg he developed. It was the first successful leg to have the locking knee, suspension harness and the equinus position and it set the bar for other prosthetics to come. Also Pare was the first to make a prosthesis with joints; The leg he designed for amputation through the thigh is the first known to employ articulated joints (Wilson Jr. 2). The next wave of progression with artificial limbs came from the Civil War, and with anesthetics present, the surgeries were improved tremendously. Building a sense of direction in life and a personal identity is difficult when society and media creates unrealistic models on how to live life, how to learn, and how to think. Media manipulation a constantly around us and needs to be treated as a problem. Media Literacy means attaining an understanding of mass media and how they construct meaning requires a critical process that takes one through the steps of description, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and engagement (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). Media is often thought of in broad terms, but it s known that six corporations owns 90% of media. The six media companies are The Walt Disney Corporation, Comcast, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS Corporation, and News Corp (Lutz,2012). The Telecommunication Act of 1996 substantially changed the rules concerning ownership of the public airwaves because the FCC eliminated most ownership restrictions on radio (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2014). The Act in which overhauled the nation s communications regulations, most regional and long distance phone companies and cable operators, competed against one another to provide connections to the Internet. It is amazing and frightening at the same time to know that these six corporations will continue to dominant 90% of everything an American citizen hears, sees, and considers meaningful. When corporations turn into an oligopoly, corporations lose the original purpose for news, which is to inform the public with facts and the act of informing and telling the truth is determined by money. HH objectifies Lolita by focusing on the nymphet assets he finds so exciting though he rarely addresses her inner mind or feelings. He notes her bad moods and bad manners, Humbert nevertheless remains convinced of Lolita s connection to Annabel, adolescent romance from his younger years. The connection is important to Humbert and Humbert alone; this strengthens his belief that only a man like himself could truly understand the rareness of a nymphet like Lolita. This thinking diminishes Lolita to a secretly held idea of Humbert s and this denies her the chance to grow in her life. The disconnect between Humbert s passionate yet diminishing view of Lolita the nymphet and Lolita the girl is found in Humbert s language; which glamorizes the unglamorous point of view of a pedophile. • 15. The River Merchant s Wife A Letter By Li Apa Summary I will be comparing excerpts from The River Merchant s Wife: A Letter by Li Po and The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jerrell. The speakers in each excerpt are creating serious and solemn dream like worlds that convey their misery over being abandoned to suffer impending death alone. Imagery in both excerpts is used differently to describe death as being either immediate as in Jarrell s poem or approaching as in Li Po s. The major difference between the speakers in each excerpt is the use of alliteration;.the speaker in Jarrell s poem uses assonance and consonance effectively to carry the emotional load created by the dark imagery, however, a loss in translation must be considered with regard to the speaker s voice n Li Po s poem. Both excerpts utilize a fractured form to allow for the imagining of their life outside of the world depicted by their words while maintaining the impact of the existence loneliness in their life and the misery of dying alone. In Jarrell s poem the speaker dies at the end. Therefore, images like hunched in its belly to show that he is like fallen prey and waking to black flack and nightmare fighters to show that he is in immediate danger are used to prepare us for the speaker s inevitable death. In contrast, the speaker in Li Po s poem uses images like leaves fall early this autumn and already yellow this August to imply that death is approaching but not near enough for portents of doom. At first I thought that Mr Beaver had Somatic Symptom Disorder due to his constant worrying of brain numbness, but as I looked deeper into his case I believe his symptoms match Illness Anxiety Disorder. I went back and forth on which disorder he has or if he only had Schizophrenia. As I looked further into Mr Beavers case I believe he has Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms that are present that support Schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, and negative symptoms. Mr Beaver showed two types of delusions. The first type was Persecution. As he was leaving the doctors he had told other patients that the doctors are out to get them, by saying not to trust the doctors. He also said that the doctors must all be working together and that they were told not to tell him what is wrong with him. Both of these symptoms are part of the Persecution Delusion. Due to this feeling he began to isolate himself in his room due to the fact that it was a safe place for him. The second delusion is Reference Delusion. It was mentioned that Justin Beaver felt that the TV was talking to him specifically. Mr Beaver also showed two symptoms for hallucinations. The first one was Auditory Hallucination. The last thing that they discovered about this study was how it was important to teach a sociology class in high school to teach the kids about sexism and gender stratification. I think this last theme is very important to educate our youth on today. A lot has been happening in the last view years with the women and gender. The Impact Of Technology On Evolution Of Knowledge There are many false claims in the science world that goes back and forth on their ideas and sometimes it s the public s choice to decide which fact is reliable. With research, it is shown that people believed what others thought were true without needing evidence to back up the claim. With new technology it became easier for the people to judge which claim is accurate due to the new science findings that supports that specific subject claim. Scientific facts are explained by evidence proven by multiple experiments that are tested by many other scientists. If a scientific claim is proven to be true, why is it that in some cases after years of studying the fact are re evaluated and proven to be false? To what extent does development of technology play a role in the evolution of knowledge? How do we know what scientific fact is reliable? When a new scientific theory or claim is made, the scientist tries to confirm it is the truth by using new technology to test out their idea. Some of the time, their old claim is outdated or falsified and they must admit they were wrong. Remember before 2006 people thought Pluto was the 9th planet from the sun? Shapland s article beats back this theory that bull leaping was a way for humans to assert their dominance, strength, and power over wild bulls. He believes Minoans did not bull leap and create representations of these leaps due to the tension between man and nature. Nowadays, people have a tendency to reduce humananimal relations to human symbolism; Shapland calls modern scholars to have a broader view of bull leaping than of something merely portraying the need of mankind to conquer the wildness of bulls and the larger world. Moreover, much of the Minoans other art does not reflect this tension; rather, for scenes depicting marine life, for example, there are aquatic creatures, not men with nets and hooks trying to catch them; Minoan art is, for the most part, peaceful. Perhaps, then, bull leaping was something celebrated not because it was man conquering beast, but man working harmoniously alongside the beast. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Curriculum Journal. Vol. 11, 2, 145 158. A holistic approach An important distinction needs to be made when dealing with creativity in schools, that is the difference between teaching creatively and teaching for creativity. Teaching creatively refers to teachers using imaginative approaches to make learning more interesting, exciting and effective. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 102). Teachers often need to be highly creative in order to capture learners interest and attention. Teaching for creativity refers to forms of teaching that are intended to develop young people s own creative thinking or behaviour. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 103). The way I see it, teaching creatively is a tool in the hands of the teacher who wants to make any learning experience meaningful, creative teaching as a means to better teaching, whereas teaching for creativity implies the inclusion of creativity as a learning objective in teacher s planning of lesson material. Teaching for creativity must acknowledge a multi faceted approach to creativity, an approach that takes into account all the aspects of creativity where education is concerned (Prentice, 2000) 3. The musical that many Americans are familiar with has its roots in the French and Viennese operettas of the 1800s, but take their comic style from American Variety and Minstrel Shows, which led to Vaudeville and Burlesque shows. From the beginning, audiences embraced screen musicals with tremendous enthusiasm, with The Jazz Singer (1927) bringing in a slew of newcomer audiences as well as the usual stage musical goers. Even though the stock market crash of 1929 caused almost a third of movies theaters in the U.S. to shut down, the industry survived (but barely), because the public would use the few pennies they had to go see a film that would make them forget the Depression for an hour and a half. Because of this, film musicals attempted to provide happy and uplifting types of musicals, but they were not extremely successful. Fast forward to 1933, when the Warner Bros. Studios gave audiences dance infused musicals, including Forty Second Street , where Busby Berkeley took his reputation and experience as a dance director for several Broadway shows and helped rebuild film musicals rapport. Due to the fact that, in the 1940s, America was fully focused on World War II in one way or another, Yankee Doodle Dandy was produced in 1942 by Warner Bros. • 34. Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior Abstract In the year 1944, with John Von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern publishing their paper on Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, foundations of Game Theory was laid. This paper is an attempt at condensing the fundamentals required to help decision making at early stages of Project Procurement. With the advent in implementation of Game Theory in real world, new theories have emerged with Game Theory as their stepping stone. Simple yet important concept such as Nash Equilibrium, Payoffs will be discussed to give the reader and idea they can improve and customize upon according to their scenario. It is important that we understand why its creator felt this way, according to them the reason for this is simply that economics is far too difficult a science to permit its construction rapidly, especially in view of the very limited knowledge and imperfect description of the facts with which economists are dealing. Only those who fail to appreciate this condition are likely to attempt the construction of universal systems. The Game doesn t always equate to the procedure that results in winning or loosing (which can be the case many a times). Here the connotation is merely utilized to provide a sense of structure involving strategies and plans to the whole process. As seen in a general Game, there are players and payoffs. Players have their strategies for particular situations, which may or may not depend on the other players moves. One interesting nature of game theory is seen when deciding moves using predefined strategies; our moves can be independent of those of the opponent s, however, results occurring due to the combination moves are totally interdependent. This can be confusing but with understanding this underlining concept of game theory comes into light easily. This phenomenon is known as Strategic Interdependency. Simply described as: What I do affect your outcome, what you do affects my outcome. To understand such subtle complexities, one must be familiar with the knowledge required about ... The artists were granted access to millions of photographs within these spaces and therein embarked on a critical process of appropriation. As Sultan states, Mike and I, through the act of selection, became authors (BAMPFA, 2012). Throughout the work we are focused on the notion of the photographas index: the trace of a footprint on wet paving slabs, a passport photo next to a hand print in sand. • 38. Family Dynamics And Family Structure Dear Dr. Parsons, As a structural functionalist, you mainly study specific societies by classifying the major structures of society and then asking the question, how does this matter. When studying these families, however, you undertake that this society blossoms when it is able to maintain social stability and social integration. Social stability however is valued over changes in time, not just immediately. This topic of family dynamics and family structure seems to be of great importance to you, and to be honest, quite important to me as well. To understand your views on the ideal family form, two assumptions must be made. First, agricultural societies had simple social structures and the typical individual performed a variation of tasks. Secondly, industrial societies had more convoluted social structures where one person performs specified and concentrated tasks that contribute to the whole picture. The nuclear family started to be considered, as the ideal adaptation to surviving in an industrial society. It consisted of a father, mother, and their children. The traditional agricultural family consisting of family members that weren t close, extended, did not seem purposeful for the industrial society as a whole. The agricultural family was distant because older family functions such as families playing smaller roles in making goods, providing personal care and healthcare, relaxation activities, and education were all ignored by the family as a whole. These lipids were identified as phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, and phosphatidylinositol and exhibited reactivity for a range of type II NKT cell hybridomas (Tatituri et al., 2013). A memorable text consists of elements or issues present in a text, which the reader finds notable or striking. This can be due to a number of factors, particularly features of the text that the author has altered intentionally to evoke certain audience emotions. • 48. Summary Of Gammaherpesvirus PROJECT SUMMARY The gammaherpesviruses Epstein Barr virus (EBV) and Kaposi s sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV) establish lifelong persistent infection in the host and are capable of causing several lymphomas and neoplasms. Gammaherpesviruses have two distinct phases in the life cycle: lytic replication and latency. Lytic replication is cleared by the immune system, the virus evades detection by the immune system and maintains a lifelong persistence in the host by establishing latency. Viral latency in B cells is the critical event associated with tumorgenesis. The innate immune system employs the Type I Interferon (IFN) response to combat viral infection. IFN family of cytokines signals the presence of an intracellular infection and activates the transcription of IFN stimulated genes (ISGs). ISG products are a diverse collection of proteins that promote antiviral and immunomodulatory functions. This proposal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of the work characterizing the immune response to KSHV and EBV has been done in vitro. Kurt Vonneguts novel, slaughterhouse five, is a deliberate and well developed statement against war as expressed through the tone, rhetoric, and characters, making anti war a prominent theme through the entirety of the novel. Slaughterhouse five advocates for the prevention of war and all the terrible consequences that follow. As there are many medical concerns that influence and accompany treatment, a brief overview of these concerns is provided. Next, the focus shifts to the population most affected by the disorder and risk factors for development of BN. A discussion of co occurring disorders follows due to the fact that BN sufferers often experience one or more co occurring disorders or differential diagnoses that may further complicate a clinician s plan for treatment. After an explanation of the disorder and its facets, general information about treatment is described including several therapeutic themes and challenges.
