2. WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?
COMMUNICATION is the activity of conveying information.
• It has been derived from the latin word “COMMUNIS” meaning to share.
• It define as giving, receiving, or exchanging information, opinions, or ideas by
writing, speech, or visual means so that material communicated is completely
understood by everyone concerned.
3. ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION
1. SPEAKER - the source of information of message.
2. MESSAGE – the information, ideas or thoughts conveyed by the speaker in words or in action.
3. ENCODING – process of converting message into words, actions or other forms that the speaker
understand.
4. CHANNEL – the medium or the means.
5. DECODING – process of interpreting the encoded message of speaker by the receiver.
6. RECEIVER – the recipient of the message .
7. FEEDBACK – reaction, responses, provided by the receiver.
8. CONTEXT – environment where communication takes place.
9. BARRIER – factors that affect the flow of communication.
