This document provides a classification of different types of antibiotics based on their mechanism of action and includes: 1. Cell wall synthesis inhibitors like beta-lactams (penicillins and cephalosporins) and carbapenems that inhibit peptidoglycan synthesis. 2. Protein synthesis inhibitors that target the 30S ribosomal subunit (aminoglycosides), 50S ribosomal subunit (oxazolidinones, streptogramins), or are macrolides. 3. Agents that target DNA and DNA synthesis pathways including fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides, DHFR inhibitors, and those that cause DNA damage.
