who desire to be in highly competitive sporting environments, will attest to the excruciatingly

Presentation and Examination: The knee anterior drawer test is a commonly used during orthopedic

with the patient supine; hips and knees are flexed at a 45 and 90–degree angles with feet flat on the
table. While holding the calf distal to the knee joint pulling suddenly away from the patient tests the
anterior drawer while pushing back tests the posterior drawer. In this case, the positive anterior

Diagnosis: Results from the orthopedic exam indicated two torn ligaments. The medial collateral
ligament (MCL), which originates at the medial femoral epicondyle and inserts at the periosteum of

When looking at women's and men's soccer, men have a merely thirteen percent ACL injury rate

This paper will review the work of others in regarding women's higher rate of anterior cruciate
ligament (ACL) injury in comparison to men. Evidence regarding these elevated rates includes
alternated motor control strategies, differences in sex hormones, differences in knee flexion angles,
and core strength differences in men and women athletes. Numerous studies have produced
correlating data in reference to women's higher susceptibility to knee injury during upper level
athletics. Although it seems unpreventable a couple of different preventative measures have been
suggested to reduce the number of knee injuries a year. These measures include supplements and
active correction training of muscle movements, also a higher degree of weight training in the

soccer athletes in regards to their risk for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear using surrogate
markers. A randomized control trial will be employed on eligible female soccer athletes that are age
fourteen to eighteen taken from two different schools. We will be using a convenience sample with
one school being the control group and the other being the experimental group having a total of 56
participants after accounting for attrition. A seven question screener survey was created for this
experiment to help screen out possible confounders. Data will be gathered by careful measuring of
the exercises performed. More specifically, weight increase, range of motion increase, and
repetitions performed. A proportion test will be used to analyze the data. The purpose of this study is
to determine if, at the high school level, a specialized exercise program will help decrease the

When the ACL tears, it cannot heal on its own and surgery is necessary for the knee to return to its
normal function. It is common that other structures in the knee will be affected alongside an ACL
injury such as the meniscus, other ligaments in the knee or the articular cartilage which would also
need addressing during the surgical procedure (Parker, 2014).
There are tests designed to diagnose ACL tears including the Lachman Test which involves the
therapist stabilizing the femur while the knee is flexed, and applying a posteroanterior pull on the
tibia along the plane of the joint (Petty, 2011). This paper will discuss the Lachman's test, how it is
applied clinically and the relevance and reliability of the technique itself. John W. Lachman,
chairman and professor of orthopedic surgery at Temple University, founded the Lachman Test
(Torg, Conrad, & Kalen, 2012).

The patient lies supine with the leg to be tested, beside the examiner. The examiner holds the
patient's knee between full extension and 30 degrees of flexion. The patient's femur is stabilised with
one of the examiner's hands while the proximal aspect of the tibia is moved posterioranteriorly
(forward) with the other hand. (Magee, 2008 p. 768) There are also a number of commonly used

INTRODUCTION
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is a common sports injury occurs widely in the USA with
the majority of suffering by healthy individuals with 70% of non contact period, during a variety of
movements such as jump landing, cutting and pivoting (21). Different risk factors should be
considered for injury, such as environmental, hormonal and biomechanical (18, 19). ACL injury
prevalence is very high in soccer as well as other sports in females compared with males (29).
Anterior shear force, valgus collapse, quadriceps to hamstring strength ratio (1, 21, 35, 37) are
considered as other main risk factors in both genders. Co–contraction of the hamstring and
quadriceps has been shown to provide dynamic stability to the frontal plane at the knee that protects
maximum knee abduction loading (35). So, the main focus of the study should be on muscular
strength between agonist –antagonist muscle of lower limbs and recovery after injury. Female
athletes get injured almost 2–8 time higher than the male counterparts (1,5,7,19,21,24,29,33,35).
Interesting point for comparing injuries in sports, dominancy of leg plays a role in ACL injury. In a
non contact injury, females are more prone to get injured in their supporting leg, whereas male
soccer athletes tend to injure the ACL in their preferred kicking leg (5). Biomechanical point of

The ACL runs through the narrow femoral notch as it attaches the femur and tibia. The femoral
notch is the space in the knee created by the femoral condyles (Prentice & Bobo & Benson, 2014).
