Anorexia Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Anorexia" can be a challenging endeavor due to the sensitive
nature of the subject matter. Anorexia nervosa is a complex and serious mental health condition
that requires careful consideration and understanding. Addressing this topic requires a delicate
balance between providing informative content and maintaining empathy towards individuals
affected by the disorder.
One of the difficulties lies in researching and presenting accurate information about the causes,
symptoms, and treatments of anorexia. It involves delving into psychological, social, and cultural
aspects that contribute to the development of the disorder. Additionally, navigating the
emotional aspects of the topic, such as the impact on individuals and their families, requires a
thoughtful and empathetic approach.
Moreover, crafting an essay on anorexia necessitates the exploration of societal perceptions,
stigmas, and misconceptions surrounding eating disorders. Analyzing the media's role in shaping
body image and its potential influence on the prevalence of anorexia adds another layer of
complexity to the task. It requires a critical examination of how societal pressures can contribute
to the development and perpetuation of unhealthy behaviors.
In conclusion, writing an essay on anorexia demands not only thorough research and factual
accuracy but also a compassionate and understanding tone. Balancing the informative aspects
with a sensitivity to the emotional and psychological challenges associated with the disorder is
crucial. It requires a writer to approach the topic with empathy and awareness, acknowledging
the seriousness of anorexia while fostering understanding and support for those affected by it.

Now lets us look into Australia strategic environment before discussing in depth by
delineates the impact of globalization in relation to its strategic perspective.
The Impact of Globalisation
The world is undeniably experiencing profound and rapid change. While the
international world system is dynamic, globalization is accelerating the movement of
ideas and technologies and advertently exposing Australia to a new strategic
environment framework such as increased the interdependency between countries
and made borders more porous, increased of the potency of the terrorist threat,
increase the complexity of the potential danger of WMD proliferation[3].
Globalisation has accelerated the trends which have a significant impact on security
policy matters, defense capability and decision making due to increased
unpredictability and uncertainty; the technology revolution has led to a diffusion of
technology at a faster tempo, particularly in the areas of information and
communications; existing of asymmetric threats such as terrorism or WMD have
reduced the value of defenses built around geographic advantage; non state players
quite often in some circumstances, constitute a strategic threat such as new form of
transnational terrorist organisations, with no state allegiance and new types of
weapons and tactics ; and borders as security barriers are now
Biological Control of the Erythrina Gall Wasp Essay
There is a long history of failed attempts of biological controls in Hawaii. The one
ingrained in everyone s mind is the day hunting mongoose released to control
nocturnal rats in the 1800 s. However, a stricter quarantine process was set up by the
State since and there have been numerous effective bio controls. Within the last four
years the ErythrinaGall Wasp has rapidly become a highly invasive pest in Hawaii.
Facing no long term control other than bio control the Erythrina Gall Wasp s cousin
has been released throughout the islands to save Erythrina plants.
In an interview with Nicoli Barca, a field tech with the Nature Conservancy he stated
biological controls are very effective when done right. An example of its
effectiveness is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wasps larvae create galls in the tissue of the trees and as adults develop they
create exit holes. Areas affected by the galls include all soft tissue such as leaflets,
leaves, petioles and new shoots of Erythrina plants. The galls created deform the
fleshy tissue of the trees, which the larvae develop within. Results of a numerous
amount of galls include loss of growth, defoliation and even death of the inflicted
tree. According to the Honolulu Advertiser, the EGW is the most environmentally
damaging and costly invasive species to creep into the islands in decades (Vorsino).
With no natural predators and no effective pesticides the EGW has become a critical
threat to the endemic Wiliwili tree (Erythrina sandwicensis). Other plants heavily
affected by the EGW are the ornamental coral trees (Erythrina variegata) used as
windbreakers throughout the islands. Coral trees seemed to have been hit harder by
this pest than the Wiliwili. However, scientists fear the Wiliwili could reach the
endangered status without action (Vorsino).
The only short term control of the EGW is removing affected Erythrina plants and
out planting others. In efforts to control the EGW populations long term Moshen

Tanzania to look for a biological control. In 2006, Ramadan brought back the

Slaves And American Women During The 1800s
Slaves and American Women Most African Americans were enslaved in the 1800s
in America, especially in the south. This time period was also a time when women
were not receiving adequate rights compared to men. Abolitionists, those working to
end slavery, began coming together to fight the evils of slavery. Fredrick Douglass, a
runaway slave, formed a new life after escaping by giving talks, working to abolish
slavery, and writing a narrative of his whole life that he got published to help the
movement to abolish slavery. In 1837, Sarah M. Grimke wrote, Legal Disabilities of
Women which compared women s rights to those of a slave. Sarah Grimke compared
white Americanmarried women to slaves because she was infuriated with some laws

Sarah Grimke writes, By marriage, the husband and wife are one person in law;
that is, the very being, or legal existence of the woman is suspended during the
marriage, or at least is incorporated and consolidated into that of the husband under
whose wing, protection and cover she performs everything (Grimke 1). What
Grimke is explaining is that the man would take control of everything that the
woman owned after marriage and they became one person, but the man had all the
power to do what he wanted with what they owned, even whatever the female
owned before they became married. In both senses, slaves and women were being
absorbed by the master or husband as he took complete control over them and
what they owned. Another similarity between slaves and married white women
was the cruel way that they were spoken to, they were both disrespected. Slave
overseers often treated the slaves with much disrespect and cruelty to scare them
and keep them in order. Grimke points out that The slaveholder does kill his slave
by moderate correction, as the law allows; and many a husband, among the poor,
exercises the right given him by the law, of degrading women by personal
chastisement (Grimke 3). Men felt a sense of authority over both slaves and women
to talk down on them in order to feel more powerful. Lastly, Women and slaves were
similar in that they both
Harriet Tubman Quotes
I was the conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years, and I can say what
most conductors can t say I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a
passenger (Harriet Tubman Historical Society; Quotes). Harriet Tubman , one of the
world s bravest woman s, freed thousands of slaves to Canada starting in 1853
(Africans in America). She was a fearless woman, working diligently in the United
States to help the slaves in the south escape their harsh conditions right before and
during the civil war. Harriet Tubmanwas motivated to struggle for change to help
herself, her family, and other slaves escape by the Underground Railroad.
Araminta Ross, known as Harriet Tubman, was born a slave in Dorchester County,
Maryland. Harriet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was very good at what she did and no one could catch her. The danger was
increased in 1850 when the fugitive slave act was enforced. This meant that any
slave that came to the North as a fugitive could be captured and returned back to
slavery. No matter what the people in the North thought, they had to follow the
law and help aid in the capture of the slaves to return them back to where they
came from. Tubman didn t let this defeat her, she rerouted the Underground
Railroad to Canada. Tubman and her fugitive slaves remained uncaptured and safe
as they made their journey to Canada (Harriet Tubman Biography). There are two
things I ve got a right to, and these are, Death or Liberty one or the other I mean to
have. No one will take me back alive; I shall fight for my liberty, and when the time
has come for me to go, the Lord will let them, kill me (Harriet Tubman Historical
Society; Quotes).. Araminta Tubman stopped at nothing to continue her
dangerous, life risking work. The new laws only pushed her to become better at
what she was doing and she became very good with new tactics.Tubman
discovered that it was best to work in the winter and help slaves escape on
saturdays. Runaway slaves couldn t be published in the newspaper until Monday
morning (Harriet Tubman Historical Society;Facts). No matter what, she knew
she had death or Liberty and she knew God would give her death after she
accomplished everything she possibly could. Harriet Tubman left people in aw
with her ambition to fight for herself and anyone else. Her selflessness and
diligence to helping people left her with the nickname moses(Harriet Tubman
Biography). Moses became Araminta Tubman s new name for a very long time.
She encouraged the slaves to never give up and do whatever they put their minds
too. Tubman, later on, still remained active during the civil war. She worked as a
cook and nurse then worked her way up to become an armed scout and
Informative Essay On Rhinoplasty Surgery
Everybody likes to look good and appealing. This feeling of looking good brings
some sense of self esteem to individuals. One way through which individuals ensure
that they look good is through undergoing rhinoplasty surgery. It is basically a facial
cosmetic procedure which is normally performed in order to enhance the appearance
of the nose. Sometimes you may feel that your nose is too big, too small, crooked or
simply just not right. This can make you consider nose reconstruction. That is where
rhinoplasty surgerycomes in.It is recommended that you do sufficient research before
undergoing this this type of surgery. The following are some of the rhinoplasty
surgery facts:
1. Choosing the right surgeon
As a rational patient, you need to choose a skillful surgeon who is an expert in the
field of rhinoplasty surgery since your nose is directly ... Show more content on

When getting rhinoplasty surgery, he or she will make incisions on the nose in
order to expose the bone and cartilage. After the area is open, the surgeon will
carefully shape your nose using specific tools. If you happen to have some
asymmetry problems or perhaps a bump in your nose, this is the time your plastic
surgeon addresses such issues. After the necessary correction has been made, your
nose is sewed together and later bandages are applied so as to help with healing.
3. Possible risks
Once you have decided to undergo this type of surgery, it means that you are
candid enough to handle the risks involved. This is the reason you should take the
instructions that your surgeon will give you with the seriousness they deserve some
of the possible risks are infection, bleeding, difficulty in breathing and
unsatisfactory nasal appearance. In addition, there is the risk of bleeding as a result
of blood vessels that possibly ruptured during the procedure. As a patient, you have
to be ready to face those risks in case they occur.

Isolation, Loneliness And Symbolism In Hands, By
Sherwood...
Symbolism is very crucial in literature, especially in short fiction. In the short story
Hands, by Sherwood Anderson, Anderson gives a perfect example of symbolism. In
the story Hands, Anderson uses symbolism of the hands of Wing Biddlebaum to
show the meaning of the story. Anderson explores the theme of isolation and
loneliness, through the symbolization of Wing s hands. By Anderson writing Hands
is showing how the protagonist hands symbolizes the many ways of him feeling
isolated and lonely in Ohio. The main character, Wing Biddlebaum, formally known
as Adolph Myers, was accused of inappropriately touching the young boys he used to
teach in a town in Pennsylvania. After the fathers of the young boys found
Retention Pond In Florida
There are retention ponds in Florida. A business built a building over one of these
ponds. The pond is a perfect circle, and the building is a perfect rectangle. The
corners of the building are ABCD, and the ratio of side AB to side BC is 4 to 3.
The perimeter of the building measures 280 units, and the edge of the pond is 4
units beyond the corner of the building. We want to figure out the area of the pond
that is not covered by the building. To find the area of the pond that is not covered
by the building, I drew a picture.
I labeled the length and width as 4x and 3x. I need to solve for the side lengths. So
I made the equation 280= 4x + 3x + 4x +3x. I solved the equation and found that x
is equal to 20. So the length is 80 units and the width is 60 units. And I have to
multiply the side lengths together to find the area. The area of the rectangle is four
thousand eight hundred. Now, to find the area of the circle, I have to find the radius.
I saw that if I connected the corners of the building to form a diagonal line, it would
form the diameter of the circle. So I made an equation using the pythagorean
theorem. I found the hypotenuse was one hundred. I then added one hundred and
eight because the pond extends four units on each side. So the radius is fifty four.
And to find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each plant costs a dollar and twenty five cents, and use up thirty square units of land.
I want to find the total cost of the plants needed to cover the available area. To find
the cost of plants, I would take the uncovered area of the pond and divide it by the
area needed for each plant. This equals one hundred and forty five. But each plant
costs a dollar and twenty five cents, so I have to multiply one hundred forty five by
one dollar and twenty five cents. So the total cost of the plants needed to cover the
available area is one hundred eighty one dollars and twenty five
Zoos On Society s Impact On Animals And Society
Imagine seeing the stripes of a zebra and wondering whether it s a white animal or
a black animal. Imagine seeing for the first time, the long, long neck and
patchwork orange of a giraffe. It s a sight to behold, and one you may not ever see
within mere feet of you, unless you were at a zoo. The world s most beautiful and
unique animals are a treasure that draws crowds. The beauty and intricacies of the
thousands of speciesof animals are not to be taken for granted. They are to be
observed, studied, admired and understood. Humans have a natural curiosity and
desire to learn about animals. According to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums
(AZA), about half the world s population visits a zooor aquarium each year. This is
no surprise. Zoos are positively impacting the animals and society.
Zoos impact society through education. The public is exposed to a myriad of species
of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds on this planet and they are able to
learn about all the unique creatures through observing them and reading the signs by
their exhibits. Zoo attendees have the opportunity to learn about protecting animals
and keeping endangered species alive, as well as raising awareness of the creatures on
our planet. For all these reasons, it s clear that zoos are very beneficial.
For children, zoos offer hands on activities such as helping to feed the animals and
volunteering during demonstrations, all to help engage the children in learning.

Confucius s Roles In China During The Tang Dynasty
The Master said, Devote yourself to what must rightly be done for the people...one
who is humane first does what is difficult and only thereafter concerns himself with
success (Confucius 3). This quote is from The Analects, which is an anthology of
texts that highlight the teachings of Confucius. Confucius founded Confucianism, a
religionor system of teachings that emphasize the earth and nature, and how one
should act, especially towards others. These Confucian values are evident in many
works of literature throughout Chinese history. One of these pieces, The Story of
Yingying, expresses Confucian ideals, but it also challenges them. The two main
characters, Yingying and Zhang, struggle to balance their lives while still trying to

Initially, women were not supposed to participate in anything besides the
domestic side of life. However, these ideas about women and their roles in society
started to crumble as some women took their fate into their own hands and gained
power in China. Empress Wu Zetain was one of the key figures during the Tang
Dynasty who proved that women could do more than just take care of their homes.
She was the only female to take on the role of emperor, and do so successfully.
Although she was ruthless and did anything to gain and keep her power, she paved
the way for feminism in China. Literature began to express this by describing
women as beautiful and confident. This was very different compared to previous
writings in which women kept to themselves in their private dwellings, never
crossing into the public sphere. This is evident in The Story of Yingying when the
author describes Yingying with beauty that was extraordinary, so radiant it took
the breath away (Zhen 68). The story also mentions that Yingying ...writes a lot.
She is always reciting poetry to herself and is moved by it for a long time after
(Zhen 69). Women during the Tang Dynasty were talented. They could read and
write, and by emphasizing Yingying s love for poetry and including some of her
work in the story, readers sees just how much more freedom women were given.
Women were now well educated, giving them the opportunity to write poetry and
take on more roles that were previously only performed by
Anabolic Steroids Are A Group Of Organic Compounds
And...
Anabolic steroids are a group of organic compounds and synthetic variants of the
male sex hormone testosterone. The proper term for these compounds is anabolic
androgenic steroids (abbreviated AAS) anabolic referring to muscle building and
androgenic referring to increased male sexual characteristics (Pope and Brower,
2005). They are synthesized in the body from cholesterol in the Leydig cells in the
testes, and in smaller amounts in the adrenal glands of both males and females and
in female ovaries (Talih, Fattal and Malone, 2007). Anabolic steroids should not be
confused with other types of steroids such as corticosteroids (e.g., cortisone or
prednisone), which have no anabolic effects and therefore have little abuse potential
(Pope and Brower, 2005; Sheffield Moore and Urban, 2004). When taken in
abundant doses, anabolic steroids allow users to greatly increase muscle strength and
athletic performance, often well beyond the limit attainable by natural means (Kouri
et al., 1995). As a result, many elite competitive athletes have used anabolic steroids
and this phenomenon has recently generated much publicity, as evidenced by
increasing media reports around the world (Ewing, 2008; Fainaru Wada and
Williams, 2006; Magnay, 2008; Swartz, 2007). Anabolic steroids are used to increase
muscle mass and reduce fat in athletes and body builders and this ultimately leads to
an increase in competitiveness. The dosages used are often a lot higher than the
recommended medical
Why Did I Get Married
In the movie why did I get married it opens by showing all the couples and their
problems that they are going through. These couple are all successful and friends
with each other. The group of friends once a year plan a trip out to a random
location to get away and spend time with their significate other. The point of the
trip was not only to hangout with their friends but also for the couples to get to
know each other more and remember why they got married from the beginning. As
the group all worked on their relationship, a couple did not want nothing to do with
each other except that what mike wanted. Mike was an ass to shiela that critized
her about being obbesed and ugly she was. Shiela ignored all the rud comments that
was given to her by mike her husband because she believed that if he see her how
hard she trying to save their marriage he might want to give it a chance to be happy.
Mike and shiela did not end up working out because they ignored the five stages
which are initiating, experimenting, intensifying, intergrading, and boding. These
five stages could of save and fix relationshipos if both parties are willing to try. From
the beginning , the first stage is initiating. Initiating is when two people meet they
show that they are interested in each other enough to communicate with one and
another. This stage is mostly based on cominication on getting to know the other
person. For example this stages revolves around simply conversation and touch.

The Anatomy and Actions of the Knee Essay
The knee joint is formed by the articulation of the distal end of the femur and the
proximal end of the tibia. The fibula is only involved to the extent that it serves as an
attachment site for connective tissue. In this paper, the anatomy of the joint will be
discussed.
The knee is a hinge type, diarthrotic, or freely moveable joint. Also referred to as a
synovial joint, the 2 articulating ends of bone are encased in a capsule that lubricates
the joint with synovial fluid to reduce friction.
Each bone in a synovial joint has articular cartilage at the articulating surface. The C
shaped medial and lateral menisci serve to deepen the articulation at the superior
surface of the tibia, thus enhancing the bony stability of the joint.

The quads include the rectus femoris, and the vastus lateralis, intermedius, and
medialis. This muscle group shares a common tendon at insertion. The patellar tendon
inserts at the tibial tuberosity, and within this tendon lies the patella. The patella is
anterior to the femur tibia articulation, and this sesmoid bone increases the leverage
of the quads by acting as a pulley. The major contributor to the stability of the knee
joint is the strength of the quads. The only muscle that assists in extension is the
tensor fascia lata.
Rotation at the knee can only occur when the joint is in flexion. Medial, or internal,
rotation is a slight turning in of the tibia, and the muscles that accomplish this are the
semitendinosus, semimembranosus, and popliteus with assistance from the gracilis
and sartorius. To slightly turn the tibia outward is called lateral (external) rotation,
and the muscle that is solely responsible for this is the biceps femoris.

that will be listed are those pertaining to the knee.)

Peloponnesian War Strategy
Evolution of Strategy Throughout the Peloponnesian War
In the years leading up to the Peloponnesian War, Athens and Sparta formed a
successful alliance defending Hellas from a Persian invasion. This alliance dissolved
soon after leaving two independent city states in its place. Athens possessed a robust
naval force and Sparta possessed a formidable military force. Each possessed unique
systems of government and policies that defined markedly different approaches for
relationships with their respective allies. These policies shaped the strategies that
each city state developed and implemented during the 27 year Peloponnesian War.

Sparta s strategy spread risk among its allies, resulting in a positive cost to benefit
ratio. In contrast, Athens was incorrect in its initial assessment of Sparta s capability
to become a significant threat and that assessment appeared to changed little leading
up to the Sicilian expedition. Further, Athens risked and lost a significant percentage
of its own resources on the Sicilian expedition rather than spreading the risk across
allies as in the Spartan strategy. It is impossible to know if Sparta s initial vision
remained present in its strategic planning throughout the war. It is likewise
impossible to know whether or not Athens initial assumptions regarding Sparta s
future capabilities influenced its future strategic evolution. However, by the end of
the Sicilian expedition, Sparta s strategy proved sustainable and effective in adapting
to changes in the realities, risks, and length of the

World War II was the biggest and most fierce armed conflict ever. At the point when
the Great Depression influenced the American economy, America was going to just

The United States actions during WWII were positive because of the War in the
Pacific. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, after a short time, the United States
pronounced war on Japan. One piece of evidence is the Battle of Midway. This
evidence is significant because it was a turning point for Japan as it had lost 4
aircraft carriers, a cruiser and 250 planes. Since, they had sustained heavy losses,
they eventually turned back. Second piece of evidence is the invasion of Iwo Jima

helping professions endure a massive amount of ethical and professional issues.
These issues affect the practice of counseling and the relationship with the client.
The book Issues and Ethics in the Helping Professions by Corey, Corey, and

book also gives possible solutions to problems and stimulates different ways to

Also with regards to therapy for the counselor, it might be beneficial for a
colleague to sit in on some sessions with the therapist to make sure their issues aren
t affecting their counseling. It can never hurt to get feedback and other
perspectives, especially if the therapist is struggling with personal or professional
issues. Another beneficial theme of the book is values and the helping profession.
A therapists values are part of who they are and it is difficult to ignore them. A
complicated issue counselors have is keeping their values from influencing the
client and realizing that their task is to help clients identify their beliefs and apply
their values to solving problems (Corey et al., 2010). A good point made in this
book was for a therapist and client to clarify their values. This way they both have
an understanding of each other s values and could be able to recognize when value
imposition is occurring. If value conflicts are occurring during therapy it would be
a good idea to refer the client to someone who can better understand where the
client is coming from. If referral is the only way, then perhaps the counselor should
explore their values and involvement in therapy. Along with values is one s religious
and spiritual beliefs. Corey et al. (2010) say that therapists should not act as if they
are an expert in religion or push their beliefs onto the client. That is understandable
but is it really that easy. Say for instance that a clients
Hurricane Detector Research Paper
Do you recall watching TV, or listening to music, when a weather alert comes out?
Hurricane hunters are the people who find and detect storms that can cause potential
harm and damage. The dropsonde hurricane detector is an instrument they use to
calculate the intensity, humidity, air pressure, and other factors essential to predict
the outcome of the storm.
Hurricane hunters drop this instrument into the ocean, and immediately, information
comes pouring in. According to Harriet Jane Caldwell, The devices fall to the
ocean and transmit bursts of data to the airplane twice every second. (Caldwell, 10)
The result of this is a more thorough analysis, as well as immediate updates on the
severity of a storm. Caldwell also says, The data includes temperature, humidity,

Don Marquis On Abortion
This essay will explore the morality of abortion through the use of Don Marquis
theories, as well as comparing them to Judith Thomson in order to effectively explain
and present my argument that the decision of abortion is dependent on the growth of
personhood. From this, I will present my belief that abortionis morally incorrect and
should not be permitted except in extreme circumstances. I intend to achieve this
through supportive arguments as well as counter arguments provided by these given
authors.
In Don Marquis essay, his goal is to argue that abortion is completely wrong. His
main thesis can be summarized through one line; Abortion, except perhaps in rare
instances, is seriously wrong (Marquis, 192). He addresses the idea that ... Show more

As a result, since the mother never granted permission for the foetus to be in her
body, according to Thomson, it would follow that abortion in this particular
circumstance is not killing unjustly. Therefore, abortion is morally permissible and is
a reasonable decision despite the fact that the pregnancy was the product of the
woman having consensual sexual intercourse and doing it voluntarily. Thomson made
a logical argument, with the assumption that her experiments had addressed all
potential cases of pregnancy, and proving that it is morally acceptable to abort in all
proposed cases, then concluding that it is still never immoral. Despite this, it must be
brought up that, Thomson recognized the morals and values of the individual who is
willing to do whatever it takes to sustain the violinist s life, an action that sets the bar
for morality so high that it would be unacceptable to expect one to follow.
Furthermore, Thomson states that while she is arguing for the permissibility of
abortion in some cases (Thomson, 66), she is not arguing for the right to secure the
death of the unborn child (Thomson, 66). She also points out that we must be confuse

On A Trip At Delaware
On a trip to Delaware: We got off the bus at Wilmington and a woman sat down
next to me. Cocaine burned my nose and I couldn t stop swallowing air. I told her I
felt like I was on fire. She drew me a map to the nearest lake. She told me you

and to reject a bunch of potentially harmful societal ideals based around wealth and
formal education and conventional morals. Somewhere I read that Jack Kerouac is

The Enduring Benefits of Graphic Notation
The proliferation of graphic scores emerging in Europe and America from the mid
1950s has had a profound impact on musical thought, broadening links between
performers and composers, audiences and art forms. Exploration of notational
methods based on graphics flourished rapidly and diversely during the fifties and
sixties, primarily as a trend amongst young radicals. So many composers producing
scores of this kind used a personal vocabulary of symbols often creating different
notation systems for each work that the effectiveness of their approaches in
realising a sonic concept can be assessed only on a case by case basis. But the
significance of early graphic scores does not depend entirely on how they sound;
rather it lies in their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Cage s Aria for voice (1958) is a prime example of the graphic score s
effectiveness in conveying the concept of an open form. The printed music
comprises twenty pages of black squares and coloured, freely drawn lines,
accompanied by textual fragments in five languages (fig. 1). Several aspects of its
construction deliberately leave the structuring, timing and stylistic details to the
performer s discretion. Although no exact pitch and therefore no vocal range is
specified, the piece was conceived originally for the versatile stylistic capabilities
of Cathy Berberian. Indeed, it would be possible for an actor to perform it, so long
as he or she had a flexible vocal technique. One of the only configurations the score
shares with conventional notation is that the horizontal axis represents time while
vertical indicates pitch, though both areas are roughly suggested rather than
accurately described. While small black squares denote percussive or un pitched use
of the voice, each of the ten colours and visual treatments used on the vocal line may
represent any style of singing or declamation; those used by Berberian in her original
performance include Sprechstimme corresponding to black dotted lines, Г la
Marlene Dietrich (purple) and Oriental (orange). A performer may devise his or her
own key according to individual vocal strengths. Likewise, the text is not set
syllabically, rather the singer must explore each textual statement as a free gesture

Determining The Efficiency Of A Protocol
6.2RESULTS
6.2.1 Simulation matrix
There are number of metrics which are helpful for deciding the efficiency of a
protocol. In this work the parameters used to evaluate the efficiency of a protocol are
the packet delivery ratio, packet statistics in the network and the throughput of the
network. The protocols AODV and AODVBC are checked against these parameters
for their performance. Packet delivery ratio of the network is improved as the mobility
with respect to the number of nodes changes. Increase in the PDR (Packet delivery
ratio is because of the less number of packet drops when AODVBC is used. Fig. 4
justifies the better performance of AODVBC routing protocol over AODV protocol in
terms of less number of packets drop.

Examples Of System Analysis
Chapter 3 REQUIREMENTS AND ANALYSIS 3.1. System Analysis The main
purpose of conducting system analysis is to study the various processes and to find
out its requirements. These may include ways of capturing or processing data,
producing information, controlling a business activity or supporting management.
The determination of requirements entrails studying the existing details about it to
find out what these requirements are. System analysis has been conducted with the
following objectives in mind: пЃ¶Identify the customers need. пЃ¶Evaluate the
system concept of feasibility. пЃ¶Perform economic and technical analysis.
пЃ¶Allocate functions to hardware, software, people, database and other system
elements. пЃ¶Establish cost and schedule constraints.

The Negative Effects Of Oxidative Stress
Kozakowska et al., (2015) findings show that it is possible for exercises to support
special adaptations as regards to the group and vigor of the physical activity

protect the muscles from disproportionate ROS generation, hence, enhancing the
motor activities (Kozakowska et al., 2015). Their findings show that light exercises
and warm up regimens reduced erythrocyte MDA and raised erythrocyte SOD
performance in patients with MD who engaged in regular light workouts. This study
is corroborated by the study done by Al Naama et al., (2015) whose findings were

Some studies suggest that the apoptotic activities cause sequential death of cells
through biochemical processes that change the traits of the cells. Some of the
changes occur through DNA mutation, swelling of the cell plasma membrane, and
the impairment of the mRNA (Rowland Pedley, 2010). Research in apoptosis has
divulged new findings suggesting that the process irrepressible once it begins making
it one of the most highly controlled process of the cell functioning (GieГџing, 2005).
Another study on the role of apoptotic activity divulges that this activity may be
started by one of two pathways, namely the intrinsic and extrinsic pathway (Elmore,
2007). When MD patients engage in high intensity exercises cause a decrease in the
production of ROS that makes cells in the intrinsic pathway to self engage and kill
themselves as they are sensitive to the stress on the cells. The death that occurs in the
cells in the extrinsic pathway is thought to be due to the activation of the caspases
that cause the death of cells and enzymes that debase protein functions. In the case of
extrinsic pathway cell death, it assumed that both pathways prompt the death of cells
(Elmore, 2007). A research conducted by Rahimov and Kunkel (2013) explored the
role of high intensity exercise on the myofiber membrane in MD. Their study found
adverse effects in terms of the weakening of the myofiber membrane. The possible

Modern Coins Minted During The Reign Of Carausius
Emperor Carausius formed an independent British Empire from 287 294 CE after
successfully rebelling against the Romans. During his reign, he successfully deflected
and fought back Roman attempts to retake Britain. In order to better understand what
type of ruler Carausius was and how he ruled, careful analysis of his coins can be
used in lieu of reliable written records. The 1,097 documented ancient coins minted
during the reign of Carausius offers a critical perspective into the most important
messages he was attempting to convey to his subjects. As a rebellious emperor,
Carausius utilized numerous, positive depictions of the Roman gods in order to
increase the legitimacy of his reign amongst his people throughout Britannia. Third
century Britannia had four operational mints under Carausius command. These mints
were: Londoninium, Camulodunum, Rotomagus, and RSR. Of the 1,097 total coins
recorded, 390 coins, or 36%, have either non attributable mint markings or do not
possess any marks. A proper analysis cannot simply ignore one third of the sample
size due to lack of regional affiliation. Therefore, these non attributable coins will be
considered as their own category, a mint without region, since they still possess
relevant information to which Roman gods Carausius minted on his coins and his
intended messages. Of the four mints in Brittannia, Camulodunum produced the most
coins at 32%. However, this mint did not produce any Aurei denomination coinage

Statement of Purpose to Attend University of Northern...
The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) and Mesa State University (MSU) are
both some of the biggest and best colleges in Colorado. They both give students that
attend many opportunities to succeed. They also have in state tuition which makes
them cheaper than most colleges. These colleges stood out to me because of how
well they fit my needs of having a short distance collegewith exceptional. UNC and
MSU are both close to home. They possess the educational programs I desire along
with respectable baseball programs. When it comes to differences, living
accommodations would be quite different between UNC and MSU. Following those
lines, the graduation rates are also significantly different between the two. Even
though MSU is a credible college, the graduation rate and distance from home could
cause problems during daily life. For those reasons, UNC would make a better fit for
me.
When choosing which college to attend, living accommodations are a big thing to
consider. If I were to go to MSU, I would have to live in a dorm. This could be a
potential problem if I am paired up with a roommate that I end up not liking or one
that doesn t like me. It would cause tension to build between us and ultimately one
of us having a miserable life in college. There could be also be a problem with one
of us bringing other people into the dorm at bad times. One of us could be trying to
do homework and study but then the other might want to hang out with someone and

I mean by this is if you have your Yahoo account linked to Facebook and you read
an article, Yahoo will post something on Facebook saying you recently read a
certain article. Granted Yahoo gives you an option to show friends on Facebook
what you read or not, but websites such as SocialCam do not give you that option.
If you watch a video on SocialCam it will show on Facebook what you watched.
The reasons behind these actions are so friends will drive friends to read potential
stories and to drive people to the websites to gain more viewers. So they essentially
use your Facebook to further their website. Also websites can use recent trends
from your Facebook page to try to entice you with advertisements. The
advertisements may proclaim that friend of yours on Facebook uses a certain

Trump uses this unpredictability to manipulate the actions of his opposition and
then outmaneuvering them to draw in voter and media attention, rather than
directly persuading people to vote for him. Donald Trump loves to be
unpredictable, it s one of the reasons that the has done so well, it s a message of
rebellion, telling the voters that he is not a politician because he does not follow
the rules of a politician. An example of this on his campaign trail was when he just
skipped a debate and just did his own rally instead. I believe if the most clinically
insane person were to run for president he would at least make every debate, why
would Donald Trump do something like this, there are three reasons. One, his
message is carried that he is a rebel and does not follow the rules as set by the
Republicans further branding himself as not a politician. Two, it gains more media
coverage by doing an action as ludicrous as missing a debate, which helps him show
his messages. Three, it catches the other Republican candidates off guard because he
changed last minute and they are required change strategies to compensate for his
decision. When Donald Trump missed the debate it was well into the primary
elections and by the time of the debate, he had insulted practically all the G.O.P.
nominees. Because of this, most candidates had prepared for Trump being the

Robert Seymour Bridges was an inspiring and influential writer whose career spans
almost six decades. He was an obscure poet until obtaining the title of poet laureate

The tactical environment is the tip of the spear, a challenging space where
effectiveness, survivability, and sustainability provide the keys to success. That
success is becoming increasingly reliant on data. Data drives our missions, from
operations, intelligence, and fires, to other areas such as medical and logistics.
Consumption of data is being fueled by the introduction of new communication
systems. Warfighter information tactical (WIN T) has begun to bring this data
down to the Brigade and Battalion level with the Point of Presence (POP), and the
Battalion and Company level with the Soldier Network Extension (SNE). New radio
waveforms are providing conduits for data down to the tactical edge. WIN T and
Handheld, Manpack, and Small Form Fit (HMS) radios are being integrated into
Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) vehicle platforms now. The Mid Tier
Networking Vehicular Radio (MNVR) is just around the corner in FY17. The tactical
infrastructure is leveraging these new communications capabilities to move data

Exploring the Dark Side of Human Nature in The Killers
Essay
Exploring the Dark Side of Human Nature in The Killers
Hemingway s The Killers illustrates that unexplained violence is an integrated part
of society. To acknowledge the cruelties of life is to come to terms with horrifying
events that can not be denied. A person may lack the maturity to cope with everyday
life if they do not realize that evil can exist in any given society.
The story is told in the objective point of view. Hemingway s approach to his story
is different; he approaches it as a journalist approaches a news story, from a focal
point somewhere outside of his characters (Jaffe, 209). The author tells the story only
as an observer. He does not tell the reader what the characters are thinking, ... Show

As one re reads the story, it is evident that Hemingway has chosen this style for a
particular reason. Hemingway did not have Ole executed, because in doing so the
reader would focus all the attention to his tragic death. The murder does not occur,
and the reader is forced to focus on the reaction of Nick, Sam and George, and the
nonchalant attitude of The Killers. One has to read it two or three times before he
realizes that Nick Adams is the central figure (Walcutt, 305). The story can be
broken into four scenes; first, The Killers are introduced; second, Nick warns Ole;
third, Nick speaks to Mrs. Bell; fourth, Nick returns to the cafe. Nick is the only
character present in each scene, and in returning to the cafe his final statement to
George is, I can t stand to think about him waiting in the room and knowing he s
going to get it. It s too damned awful. George replies, You better not think about it
(Hemingway, 252). It is obvious Nick is unwilling to accept defeat, and give up his
delusion of a world without evil. To maintain his delusion, he is willing to escape
the reality that is presented to him. So, of the two boys, it is obviously Nick on
whom the impression has been made. George has managed to come to terms with
the situation. By this line of reasoning, it is Nick s story (Brooks, 195). Nick is the
only character that evolves; Nick is a round character. The other
To Kill A Mockingbird
Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird explores key ideas exposing the human
condition and the difficulties faced when one is forced to challenge their morality.
To Kill a Mockingbird remains relevant in today s society as this novel effectively
addresses preconceived issues of religion, racism and, the overriding theme of
bigotry in our world, no matter the era in which we are living. Lee uses a variety of
techniques to convey the social injustices and inequalities of the world in the 1930 s,
whilst remaining timeless through the use of character and addressing the cruel fact
that heinous things happen to innocent people, such as that of Tom Robinson. To Kill
a Mockingbirdnot only remains relevant due to the covering of the sensitive... Show

Race is a huge topic of discussion in the novel, as well as in our society today, it is
conveyed that we often have trouble accepting difference and make assumptions of
a person based on the colour of their skin, not their actions. This theme of racism is
evident from the onset and throughout the novel, Lee uses the word nigger
conveniently to display the underlying racism in Maycomb county and to highlight
the racist attitudes of many persons in the novel. This theme of racism is evident
in scenes involving Tom Robinson, Atticus states in the courtroom Which,
gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson s skin , in this
quote it is illustrated that the colour of Tom s skin is associated with the depravity
of the crime committed, this idea that there is a link between one s colour and
their actions is a theme that is a constant in our current society, as it is not unusual
for a person to be exposed to stereotyping due to the colour of their skin. Racial
discrimination is a theme that is still ever relevant in today s society as we are
constantly associating specific groups with crimes and injustices. The theme of race
is a subject matter that has kept Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird pertinent in our
evolving and ever changing world and will continue to do
Artificial Intelligence Argument Essay
Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly a hotly debated topic in today s society, with
many concerned that it will soon enslave humanity and others saying that it s
harmless and only here to help us. Many sci fi movies, such as the infamous 1984
film produced by James Cameron, The Terminator, portray robots as becoming
knowledgeable and taking over the world. Humanity creates an artificially intelligent
program known as Skynet, which becomes completely cognizant and overthrows the
world by initiating a nuclear holocaust. In the aftermath, a group of survivors creates
a resistance that attempts to destroy the program, however they are met with the
challenge of defeating Skynet s cyborg army. Skynet sends a terminator, played by

Nick Bostrom, a philosopher and the University of Oxford, states that,
...superintelligence could emerge, and while it could be great [...] it could also
decide it doesn t need humans around (Ford). This philosopher, like many other
technology critics, can see the effects that artificial intelligence may have on our
future, however there is always the select group of people who cannot foresee the
consequences of their actions. For example, Victor Frankenstein was introduced to
science at a young age and when he went to college at Ingolstadt he met Professor
Waldman shared a similar scientific interest. Waldman proclaimed, If your wish is
to become really a man of science [...] I should advise you to apply to every branch
of natural philosophy... much like how Waldman himself devotes his life to all
branches of science (Shelley 29). However, this sparked Victor s interested and
caused him to not immediately realize the ramifications of his attempts to bring the
dead back to life, which lead to the death of Victor s loved ones and the destruction of
his world. The entire human race in The Terminator closely resembles Victor
Frankenstein considering that humans create the superintelligent program, Skynet,
which is supposed solely defend the nation s cyber network, however it ends up
taking over the world. This is extremely similar to Victor s situation, in which both he
and humanity neglect
Advantages Of Khalifa Bin Saman Port
пЃ¶Introduction:
In this essay I am going to discuss how Bahrain developed the new Khalifa Bin
Selman Port. Moreover, I am also going to discuss the geographical factors and
technological changes that have happened over the last 100 years which have made
it essential and possible for the Khalifa Bin Salman Port to be constructed and built.
In addition, the advantages of the new port compared to the Mina Salman Port will
also be discussed and listed in this essay. Moreover, in this essay; the first oil well in
Bahrain, dredging that helped build the new port, land reclamation, the sizes of the
ships, the King Fahad Causeway, the advantages of the new Khalifa Bin Selman Port
will all be discussed and the Oram s First Law of Mechanisation.
пЃ¶Timeline:
пЃ¶First port in Bahrian:
Bahrain has a strategic position because it is positioned in the centre of the gulf.
The first port in Bahrain was constructed in the 1930s. It was positioned on the
north side of Bahrain at Mina Manama. The port was small and it only could handle

Land reclamation is the idea of creating new lands from seas, oceans, rivers or
lakes. Reclamation is mostly done in coastal areas. There are different methods to
land reclamation. However, the most common method of land reclamation is
when lands are filled with large rocks or cement, or both. Then the area is covered
by using dirt until it gets to the level of height that is required. Bahrain spent over
79BD Million to start working on Khalifa Bin Salma Port. The port is positioned on
110 hectares (ha) of reclaimed land (Ministry of Transportation and
Telecommunications, n.d.). The reclamation process was planned for Khalifa Bin
Salman Port to get the best possible location available in Bahrain for a port. As
shown in the land reclamation picture above the development of land reclamation in

The Grand Illusion in The Great Gatsby Essay
The American dream is a farce. Hopeful American children and quixotic foreigners
believe that freedom will lead to prosperity, and that prosperity will bring happiness.
This anticipation of joy will never come to fruition, and all these unfortunate people
will feel that they were cheated out of happiness by some unlucky roll of dice, but
really they have been chasing cars, because the American dream is not something one
can truly capture, but only smoke trapped in the palm of a hand. In The Great Gatsby,
Jay Gatsbys lavish parties, characterized by music, dancing, and illegal alcohol, are a
representation of the corruption of society s values, and are filled with guests only
concerned with material things as they step further and further... Show more content

Many of the guests at the parties are not even invited, and Nick believe that [He]
was one of the few guests who had actually been invited (Fitzgerald 41). At Gatsby
s parties, avid people seeking wealth and social status want to climb up the social
ladder by talking to those who are put in high places by birth, and to do this,
people simply ignored the common courtesy of not attending a party they are not
wanted at, and just went to his parties. Money makes the world go round, and even
when the world seems to be joyous and blissful, like at Gatsby s parties, there are
still the unseen gears of greed at work, out to snatch a dollar even in a place they
are not even wanted at in the first place. Although Gatsby s parties may seem to be
the best example of honest fun in the 1920 s, they are paid for by nothing but the
lies and trickery called bootlegging. Gatsby, although surrounded by extraordinary
dГ©cor and living in a beautiful mansion, is nothing more than anyone in prison he
is a crook. The enormous parties he throws, as beautiful as they may seem to the
simple wandering eye, are paid for with the money of an immoral thief, Gatsby.
Although Gatsby tries to conceal his business affairs, Tom studies Gatsby s life out
of suspicion, and finds that Gatsby bought up a lot of side street drugstores and sold
grain alcohol over the counter
The Cotton Gin And The Assembly Line
The cotton gin and the assembly line may seem at first glance like they are not that
important but their lasting effects explain why things like manufacturing operate the
way they do today. The cotton gin is a simple box. It has gears and a screen that with
a crank on it that, when turned, is used to separate the cottonseeds from the cotton.
The assembly lineinvolves a pathway where a car or other item moves from station to
station. A specially trained worker at each station will work on one specific area of
the car or item before passing it along to the next station. The cotton gin and the
assembly line affected history through the wars that both influenced and the

systems to the organization as it is working to retain existing customers by managing
relationships with them will generally increase revenues and reduce costs. Positive
outcomes can include a larger share of a customer s businesses as a result of activities
such as cross selling and up selling. When CRM works, it helps to solve this problem
by meshing everyone together and focusing the entire organization on the customer.
CRM requires commitment and understanding throughout the company not just in
marketing as it adds to a sense of expectation and loyalty being instilled within the
consumer and the development of a relationship between company and customer that
competitors find hard to break.
Furthermore, the club card and customer retention can be linked through the use of
the internet, as internet is now the most popular means of reaching and interacting
with customers having such rewards of increased customer retention, growth and

Army Surplus Store-Personal Narrative
Slam, slam, wham, Dad closed the car doors and the back loading door and dusted
off his hands, looked straight up the face of the nearly vertical ski lift to where he
knew the trailhead began, then looked at us and at the pile of stuff. Are you guys
sure you have enough supplies for a week? Yes, pretty sure. Okay, have fun, be
careful and don t shoot the dog by accident. Crap! He knew we had the guns. I
thought I d stashed them well enough that he wouldn t see them. Maybe he was
guessing, seeing if we d self incriminate. Okay, we ll have fun and be careful. He
gave us one last hard look, shook his head, climbed in the car, then looked over his
shoulder at us standing there with enough stuff to start an Army Surplus Store. There

Previously these banks had core strategies of targeting specific markets. They
focussed on their main product offerings such as Checking Accounts, and on branch
network service provision.
However, because ING D s success many of the established banks implemented new
competitor target strategies in which they went head to head with ING D and the
other new entrants, internet banks, which had been attracted into the direct market.
ING D s competitors fall into two key groups;
Bricks Mortar
The traditional banks such as Citibank HSBC have principally eroded ING D s
unique selling propositions through the availability of high interest savings accounts.
They had the advantage of building on existing relationships and offer the
convenience of being a one stop shop for customers. As holders of the primary
checking relationship this has been a credible market position which has resulted in
savings balances switching from ING D.
Internet
Internet competitors have operating models more like the no frills approach adopted
by ING D.
The main competitive threat has been around interest rates but they also attacked
ING D s brand values and personality, such as the use of less formal marketing
messages and communication channels.
Impact
The result of these strategic changes has been a proliferation of me too savings
products from a range of providers which have created price competition, choice and

The one ingrained in everyone s mind is the day hunting mongoose released to control nocturnal rats in the 1800 s. However, a stricter quarantine process was set up by the State since and there have been numerous effective bio controls. Within the last four years the ErythrinaGall Wasp has rapidly become a highly invasive pest in Hawaii. Areas affected by the galls include all soft tissue such as leaflets, leaves, petioles and new shoots of Erythrina plants. The galls created deform the fleshy tissue of the trees, which the larvae develop within. Results of a numerous amount of galls include loss of growth, defoliation and even death of the inflicted tree. According to the Honolulu Advertiser, the EGW is the most environmentally damaging and costly invasive species to creep into the islands in decades (Vorsino). With no natural predators and no effective pesticides the EGW has become a critical threat to the endemic Wiliwili tree (Erythrina sandwicensis). Other plants heavily affected by the EGW are the ornamental coral trees (Erythrina variegata) used as windbreakers throughout the islands. Coral trees seemed to have been hit harder by this pest than the Wiliwili. However, scientists fear the Wiliwili could reach the endangered status without action (Vorsino). The only short term control of the EGW is removing affected Erythrina plants and out planting others. In efforts to control the EGW populations long term Moshen Ramadan State Department of Agriculture exploratory entomologist, went to Tanzania to look for a biological control. • 4. Slaves And American Women During The 1800s Slaves and American Women Most African Americans were enslaved in the 1800s in America, especially in the south. This time period was also a time when women were not receiving adequate rights compared to men. Abolitionists, those working to end slavery, began coming together to fight the evils of slavery. Fredrick Douglass, a runaway slave, formed a new life after escaping by giving talks, working to abolish slavery, and writing a narrative of his whole life that he got published to help the movement to abolish slavery. In 1837, Sarah M. Grimke wrote, Legal Disabilities of Women which compared women s rights to those of a slave. Sarah Grimke writes, By marriage, the husband and wife are one person in law; that is, the very being, or legal existence of the woman is suspended during the marriage, or at least is incorporated and consolidated into that of the husband under whose wing, protection and cover she performs everything (Grimke 1). What Grimke is explaining is that the man would take control of everything that the woman owned after marriage and they became one person, but the man had all the power to do what he wanted with what they owned, even whatever the female owned before they became married. In both senses, slaves and women were being absorbed by the master or husband as he took complete control over them and what they owned. Another similarity between slaves and married white women was the cruel way that they were spoken to, they were both disrespected. Slave overseers often treated the slaves with much disrespect and cruelty to scare them and keep them in order. Grimke points out that The slaveholder does kill his slave by moderate correction, as the law allows; and many a husband, among the poor, exercises the right given him by the law, of degrading women by personal chastisement (Grimke 3). Men felt a sense of authority over both slaves and women to talk down on them in order to feel more powerful. Lastly, Women and slaves were similar in that they both

Harriet Tubman , one of the world s bravest woman s, freed thousands of slaves to Canada starting in 1853 (Africans in America). She was a fearless woman, working diligently in the United States to help the slaves in the south escape their harsh conditions right before and during the civil war. This meant that any slave that came to the North as a fugitive could be captured and returned back to slavery. No matter what the people in the North thought, they had to follow the law and help aid in the capture of the slaves to return them back to where they came from. Tubman didn t let this defeat her, she rerouted the Underground Railroad to Canada. Tubman and her fugitive slaves remained uncaptured and safe as they made their journey to Canada (Harriet Tubman Biography). There are two things I ve got a right to, and these are, Death or Liberty one or the other I mean to have. No one will take me back alive; I shall fight for my liberty, and when the time has come for me to go, the Lord will let them, kill me (Harriet Tubman Historical Society; Quotes).. Araminta Tubman stopped at nothing to continue her dangerous, life risking work. • 8. Retention Pond In Florida There are retention ponds in Florida. A business built a building over one of these ponds. The pond is a perfect circle, and the building is a perfect rectangle. The corners of the building are ABCD, and the ratio of side AB to side BC is 4 to 3. The perimeter of the building measures 280 units, and the edge of the pond is 4 units beyond the corner of the building. We want to figure out the area of the pond that is not covered by the building. To find the area of the pond that is not covered by the building, I drew a picture. I labeled the length and width as 4x and 3x. I need to solve for the side lengths. So I made the equation 280= 4x + 3x + 4x +3x. I solved the equation and found that x is equal to 20. So the length is 80 units and the width is 60 units. And I have to multiply the side lengths together to find the area. The area of the rectangle is four thousand eight hundred. Now, to find the area of the circle, I have to find the radius. I saw that if I connected the corners of the building to form a diagonal line, it would form the diameter of the circle. So I made an equation using the pythagorean theorem. I found the hypotenuse was one hundred. I then added one hundred and eight because the pond extends four units on each side. So the radius is fifty four. And to find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each plant costs a dollar and twenty five cents, and use up thirty square units of land. But each plant costs a dollar and twenty five cents, so I have to multiply one hundred forty five by one dollar and twenty five cents. So the total cost of the plants needed to cover the available area is one hundred eighty one dollars and twenty five

Confucius founded Confucianism, a religionor system of teachings that emphasize the earth and nature, and how one should act, especially towards others. Initially, women were not supposed to participate in anything besides the domestic side of life. However, these ideas about women and their roles in society started to crumble as some women took their fate into their own hands and gained power in China. Empress Wu Zetain was one of the key figures during the Tang Dynasty who proved that women could do more than just take care of their homes. She was the only female to take on the role of emperor, and do so successfully. Although she was ruthless and did anything to gain and keep her power, she paved the way for feminism in China. Literature began to express this by describing women as beautiful and confident. This was very different compared to previous writings in which women kept to themselves in their private dwellings, never crossing into the public sphere. This is evident in The Story of Yingying when the author describes Yingying with beauty that was extraordinary, so radiant it took the breath away (Zhen 68). The story also mentions that Yingying ...writes a lot. She is always reciting poetry to herself and is moved by it for a long time after (Zhen 69). Women during the Tang Dynasty were talented. They could read and write, and by emphasizing Yingying s love for poetry and including some of her work in the story, readers sees just how much more freedom women were given. Women were now well educated, giving them the opportunity to write poetry and take on more roles that were previously only performed by
  • 11. Anabolic Steroids Are A Group Of Organic Compounds And... Anabolic steroids are a group of organic compounds and synthetic variants of the male sex hormone testosterone. The proper term for these compounds is anabolic androgenic steroids (abbreviated AAS) anabolic referring to muscle building and androgenic referring to increased male sexual characteristics (Pope and Brower, 2005). They are synthesized in the body from cholesterol in the Leydig cells in the testes, and in smaller amounts in the adrenal glands of both males and females and in female ovaries (Talih, Fattal and Malone, 2007). Anabolic steroids should not be confused with other types of steroids such as corticosteroids (e.g., cortisone or prednisone), which have no anabolic effects and therefore have little abuse potential (Pope and Brower, 2005; Sheffield Moore and Urban, 2004). When taken in abundant doses, anabolic steroids allow users to greatly increase muscle strength and athletic performance, often well beyond the limit attainable by natural means (Kouri et al., 1995). As a result, many elite competitive athletes have used anabolic steroids and this phenomenon has recently generated much publicity, as evidenced by increasing media reports around the world (Ewing, 2008; Fainaru Wada and Williams, 2006; Magnay, 2008; Swartz, 2007). Anabolic steroids are used to increase muscle mass and reduce fat in athletes and body builders and this ultimately leads to an increase in competitiveness. The dosages used are often a lot higher than the recommended medical

The fibula is only involved to the extent that it serves as an attachment site for connective tissue. In this paper, the anatomy of the joint will be discussed. The knee is a hinge type, diarthrotic, or freely moveable joint. Also referred to as a synovial joint, the 2 articulating ends of bone are encased in a capsule that lubricates the joint with synovial fluid to reduce friction. The patella is anterior to the femur tibia articulation, and this sesmoid bone increases the leverage of the quads by acting as a pulley. The major contributor to the stability of the knee joint is the strength of the quads. The only muscle that assists in extension is the tensor fascia lata. Rotation at the knee can only occur when the joint is in flexion. Medial, or internal, rotation is a slight turning in of the tibia, and the muscles that accomplish this are the semitendinosus, semimembranosus, and popliteus with assistance from the gracilis and sartorius. Another beneficial theme of the book is values and the helping profession. A therapists values are part of who they are and it is difficult to ignore them. A complicated issue counselors have is keeping their values from influencing the client and realizing that their task is to help clients identify their beliefs and apply their values to solving problems (Corey et al., 2010). A good point made in this book was for a therapist and client to clarify their values. This way they both have an understanding of each other s values and could be able to recognize when value imposition is occurring. If value conflicts are occurring during therapy it would be a good idea to refer the client to someone who can better understand where the client is coming from. If referral is the only way, then perhaps the counselor should explore their values and involvement in therapy. Along with values is one s religious and spiritual beliefs. Corey et al. (2010) say that therapists should not act as if they are an expert in religion or push their beliefs onto the client. That is understandable but is it really that easy. • 20. Don Marquis On Abortion This essay will explore the morality of abortion through the use of Don Marquis theories, as well as comparing them to Judith Thomson in order to effectively explain and present my argument that the decision of abortion is dependent on the growth of personhood. From this, I will present my belief that abortionis morally incorrect and should not be permitted except in extreme circumstances. I intend to achieve this through supportive arguments as well as counter arguments provided by these given authors. In Don Marquis essay, his goal is to argue that abortion is completely wrong. His main thesis can be summarized through one line; Abortion, except perhaps in rare instances, is seriously wrong (Marquis, 192). He addresses the idea that ... As a result, since the mother never granted permission for the foetus to be in her body, according to Thomson, it would follow that abortion in this particular circumstance is not killing unjustly. Therefore, abortion is morally permissible and is a reasonable decision despite the fact that the pregnancy was the product of the woman having consensual sexual intercourse and doing it voluntarily. Thomson made a logical argument, with the assumption that her experiments had addressed all potential cases of pregnancy, and proving that it is morally acceptable to abort in all proposed cases, then concluding that it is still never immoral. Despite this, it must be brought up that, Thomson recognized the morals and values of the individual who is willing to do whatever it takes to sustain the violinist s life, an action that sets the bar for morality so high that it would be unacceptable to expect one to follow. Furthermore, Thomson states that while she is arguing for the permissibility of abortion in some cases (Thomson, 66), she is not arguing for the right to secure the death of the unborn child (Thomson, 66). She also points out that we must be confuse these two

The Enduring Benefits of Graphic Notation The proliferation of graphic scores emerging in Europe and America from the mid 1950s has had a profound impact on musical thought, broadening links between performers and composers, audiences and art forms. Exploration of notational methods based on graphics flourished rapidly and diversely during the fifties and sixties, primarily as a trend amongst young radicals. So many composers producing scores of this kind used a personal vocabulary of symbols often creating different notation systems for each work that the effectiveness of their approaches in realising a sonic concept can be assessed only on a case by case basis. John Cage s Aria for voice (1958) is a prime example of the graphic score s effectiveness in conveying the concept of an open form. The printed music comprises twenty pages of black squares and coloured, freely drawn lines, accompanied by textual fragments in five languages (fig. 1). Several aspects of its construction deliberately leave the structuring, timing and stylistic details to the performer s discretion. Although no exact pitch and therefore no vocal range is specified, the piece was conceived originally for the versatile stylistic capabilities of Cathy Berberian. Indeed, it would be possible for an actor to perform it, so long as he or she had a flexible vocal technique. One of the only configurations the score shares with conventional notation is that the horizontal axis represents time while vertical indicates pitch, though both areas are roughly suggested rather than accurately described. While small black squares denote percussive or un pitched use of the voice, each of the ten colours and visual treatments used on the vocal line may represent any style of singing or declamation; those used by Berberian in her original performance include Sprechstimme corresponding to black dotted lines, Г la Marlene Dietrich (purple) and Oriental (orange). A performer may devise his or her own key according to individual vocal strengths. Likewise, the text is not set syllabically, rather the singer must explore each textual statement as a free gesture instead

In this work the parameters used to evaluate the efficiency of a protocol are the packet delivery ratio, packet statistics in the network and the throughput of the network. The protocols AODV and AODVBC are checked against these parameters for their performance. Packet delivery ratio of the network is improved as the mobility with respect to the number of nodes changes. Increase in the PDR (Packet delivery ratio is because of the less number of packet drops when AODVBC is used. Research in apoptosis has divulged new findings suggesting that the process irrepressible once it begins making it one of the most highly controlled process of the cell functioning (GieГџing, 2005). Another study on the role of apoptotic activity divulges that this activity may be started by one of two pathways, namely the intrinsic and extrinsic pathway (Elmore, 2007). When MD patients engage in high intensity exercises cause a decrease in the production of ROS that makes cells in the intrinsic pathway to self engage and kill themselves as they are sensitive to the stress on the cells. The death that occurs in the cells in the extrinsic pathway is thought to be due to the activation of the caspases that cause the death of cells and enzymes that debase protein functions. During his reign, he successfully deflected and fought back Roman attempts to retake Britain. In order to better understand what type of ruler Carausius was and how he ruled, careful analysis of his coins can be used in lieu of reliable written records. The 1,097 documented ancient coins minted during the reign of Carausius offers a critical perspective into the most important messages he was attempting to convey to his subjects. As a rebellious emperor, Carausius utilized numerous, positive depictions of the Roman gods in order to increase the legitimacy of his reign amongst his people throughout Britannia. Third century Britannia had four operational mints under Carausius command. These mints were: Londoninium, Camulodunum, Rotomagus, and RSR. Of the 1,097 total coins recorded, 390 coins, or 36%, have either non attributable mint markings or do not possess any marks. A proper analysis cannot simply ignore one third of the sample size due to lack of regional affiliation. Therefore, these non attributable coins will be considered as their own category, a mint without region, since they still possess relevant information to which Roman gods Carausius minted on his coins and his intended messages. Of the four mints in Brittannia, Camulodunum produced the most coins at 32%. However, this mint did not produce any Aurei denomination coinage and just one

Exploring the Dark Side of Human Nature in The Killers Essay Exploring the Dark Side of Human Nature in The Killers Hemingway s The Killers illustrates that unexplained violence is an integrated part of society. To acknowledge the cruelties of life is to come to terms with horrifying events that can not be denied. A person may lack the maturity to cope with everyday life if they do not realize that evil can exist in any given society. The story is told in the objective point of view. Hemingway s approach to his story is different; he approaches it as a journalist approaches a news story, from a focal point somewhere outside of his characters (Jaffe, 209). The author tells the story only as an observer. He does not tell the reader what the characters are thinking, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As one re reads the story, it is evident that Hemingway has chosen this style for a particular reason. Hemingway did not have Ole executed, because in doing so the reader would focus all the attention to his tragic death. The murder does not occur, and the reader is forced to focus on the reaction of Nick, Sam and George, and the nonchalant attitude of The Killers. One has to read it two or three times before he realizes that Nick Adams is the central figure (Walcutt, 305). The story can be broken into four scenes; first, The Killers are introduced; second, Nick warns Ole; third, Nick speaks to Mrs. Bell; fourth, Nick returns to the cafe. Nick is the only character present in each scene, and in returning to the cafe his final statement to George is, I can t stand to think about him waiting in the room and knowing he s going to get it. It s too damned awful. George replies, You better not think about it (Hemingway, 252). It is obvious Nick is unwilling to accept defeat, and give up his delusion of a world without evil. To maintain his delusion, he is willing to escape the reality that is presented to him. So, of the two boys, it is obviously Nick on whom the impression has been made. George has managed to come to terms with the situation. By this line of reasoning, it is Nick s story (Brooks, 195). Nick is the only character that evolves; Nick is a round character. The other

To Kill a Mockingbird remains relevant in today s society as this novel effectively addresses preconceived issues of religion, racism and, the overriding theme of bigotry in our world, no matter the era in which we are living. Race is a huge topic of discussion in the novel, as well as in our society today, it is conveyed that we often have trouble accepting difference and make assumptions of a person based on the colour of their skin, not their actions. This theme of racism is evident from the onset and throughout the novel, Lee uses the word nigger conveniently to display the underlying racism in Maycomb county and to highlight the racist attitudes of many persons in the novel. This theme of racism is evident in scenes involving Tom Robinson, Atticus states in the courtroom Which, gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson s skin , in this quote it is illustrated that the colour of Tom s skin is associated with the depravity of the crime committed, this idea that there is a link between one s colour and their actions is a theme that is a constant in our current society, as it is not unusual for a person to be exposed to stereotyping due to the colour of their skin. Racial discrimination is a theme that is still ever relevant in today s society as we are constantly associating specific groups with crimes and injustices. • 43. Artificial Intelligence Argument Essay Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly a hotly debated topic in today s society, with many concerned that it will soon enslave humanity and others saying that it s harmless and only here to help us. Many sci fi movies, such as the infamous 1984 film produced by James Cameron, The Terminator, portray robots as becoming knowledgeable and taking over the world. Humanity creates an artificially intelligent program known as Skynet, which becomes completely cognizant and overthrows the world by initiating a nuclear holocaust. In the aftermath, a group of survivors creates a resistance that attempts to destroy the program, however they are met with the challenge of defeating Skynet s cyborg army. Nick Bostrom, a philosopher and the University of Oxford, states that, ...superintelligence could emerge, and while it could be great [...] it could also decide it doesn t need humans around (Ford). This philosopher, like many other technology critics, can see the effects that artificial intelligence may have on our future, however there is always the select group of people who cannot foresee the consequences of their actions. For example, Victor Frankenstein was introduced to science at a young age and when he went to college at Ingolstadt he met Professor Waldman shared a similar scientific interest. Waldman proclaimed, If your wish is to become really a man of science [...] I should advise you to apply to every branch of natural philosophy... much like how Waldman himself devotes his life to all branches of science (Shelley 29). However, this sparked Victor s interested and caused him to not immediately realize the ramifications of his attempts to bring the dead back to life, which lead to the death of Victor s loved ones and the destruction of his world. The entire human race in The Terminator closely resembles Victor Frankenstein considering that humans create the superintelligent program, Skynet, which is supposed solely defend the nation s cyber network, however it ends up taking over the world. This is extremely similar to Victor s situation, in which both he and humanity neglect

Money makes the world go round, and even when the world seems to be joyous and blissful, like at Gatsby s parties, there are still the unseen gears of greed at work, out to snatch a dollar even in a place they are not even wanted at in the first place. Although Gatsby s parties may seem to be the best example of honest fun in the 1920 s, they are paid for by nothing but the lies and trickery called bootlegging. Gatsby, although surrounded by extraordinary dГ©cor and living in a beautiful mansion, is nothing more than anyone in prison he is a crook. The enormous parties he throws, as beautiful as they may seem to the simple wandering eye, are paid for with the money of an immoral thief, Gatsby.
