Animal testing is conducted to test products like cosmetics, medicines, and hygiene products for human safety. While it has benefits like advancing medical treatments, animal testing causes animals pain and distress. Many major religions allow animal testing only when necessary and cause as little suffering as possible, since animals have feelings and are also God's creations deserving compassion. However, certain practices like the Draize eye test are considered cruel by some. Over 100 million animals are used in experiments annually in the US alone.
Animal Experimentation- Contemporary IssueChandan Saha
Animals have their own rights. They are not puppet of our laboratory. With the help of modern and scientific technology we can change old traditional animal experiment methods.
Justifications for invasive experiments on animals rely on claims that such research is essential for the advancement of biomedical knowledge, for the development of cures to human diseases, or for the evaluation of the toxicity of compounds to which humans are exposed. Until recently, critical evaluations of the accuracy of such claims have been rare. However, a growing body of large-scale systematic reviews have now been published in scientific and medical journals. The outcomes have been consistent: animal experiments have contributed far less than advocates would have us believe.
This presentation summarises these recent results, and comprehensively reviews the alternatives to invasive animal use with biomedical research, toxicity testing, and education.
Published studies are available at www.AnimalExperiments.info.

Today there exists a wide spectrum of views on this subject, ranging from those concerned with animal 'rights' to those who view animals only as a resource to be exploited.
All of thThe five freedoms were originally developed from a UK Government report on livestock husbandry in 1965 (Prof.Roger Brambell) then by Farm Animal Welfare Council (FAWC) In July 1979
Freedom from hunger or thirst by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour .
Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area .
Freedom from pain, injury or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
Freedom to express (most) normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.
Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

2. What is animal experimenting Animal experimenting is where people experiment on animals such as: rats, mice, guinea pigs. Theseanimals which get tested on the most. Other animals get tested on as well, such as: dogs, cats, monkeys, gorillas, hamsters ect... Experimenting on these animals causes excruciating pain and unusual side effects that occur while experimenting on them, for example abnormality such as this picture shows here this picture was taken in 1997, Dr Jay Vacanti and his team grew an ear at the back of the mouse. Scientist do animal experimenting so us humans don’t get harmful Effects from it and so its safe for humans to Use such as: cosmetics, hygiene products and Medication ect...
3. Benefits of animal experimenting The benefits of animal experimenting is that thousands of people are saved from diseases such as: swine flu, malaria also cancer treatment. Powerful medical drugs and treatments are all tested on animals before given to humans. All the medication that are sold in chemists and in our cupboards all have been tested on manytimes on animals and even the dose of medication has been tested that’s why on the package or in the package there’s a folded piece of paper saying how much dose for a particular age and that's all tested on animal experimenting. If we didn’t have animal testing people would suffer greatly from cancer especially and diseases the world would end very quickly and population of the world will decrease rapidly. Also rodents have a short life span and testing on a human will be too risky.
4. Detriments of animal experimenting The detriments of animal experimenting is that experimenting don’t always work because the living organism can be unpredictable on the other hand it can harm animals greatly also animals have no rights at all they can’t make the choice if they don’t or do want to be experimented on. The people who experiment on them think that animals have no feelings like us humans do. They don’t realise animals are quite the same as humans but with different features ,characteristics, personality and habitat every animal has a feelings if they didn’t they wouldn't have a heart. These animals have no way out they try to escape and fight but humans are on the top of the food chain we are the main predator.
5.
6. More than 100 million animals are poisoned, burned, crippled, and abused in other ways in U.S. labs each year.According to the USDA, approximately: 61% of animals used suffer no pain 31% have pain relieved with anesthesia 6% experience pain, as alleviation would compromise the validity of the data. Much of this work is directed at an understanding of pain.
7. Types of tests The Draize test- This test is where a substance is tested on a rabbit’s eye this is because rabbits produce low amount much tears and the rabbit’s eye doesn’t get washed out so it makes a yellow circle round the rabbit’s eye, this test is for cosmetics. Dermal Toxicity test- This test is unpleasant skin reaction of essential oils and other substances and this causes irritation, inflammation, itching and sensitization this is used on rabbits and guinea pigs and other animals they test the substance on shaved skin which is raw. Lethal dose test- The lethal dose (or LD) test measures the amount of a toxic substance that will, in a single dose, kill a certain percentage of animals in a test group. About five million dogs, rabbits, rats, monkeys, and other animals die in lethal dose tests performed in the United States.
8. Organisations against animal testing People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) Abercrombie & Fitch The Body Shop Estee Lauder Hello kitty Chanel Zara Neutrogena Nivea Herbal Essences
9. Famous people quotes about animal testing "I am in favor of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of a whole human being". -- Abraham Lincoln. "The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men." -- Leonardo Da Vinci. “Our task must be to free ourselves... by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and it's beauty.”-- Albert Einstein. “To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. The more helpless the creature, the more that it is entitled to protection by man from the cruelty of man.”-- Mohandas Gandhi.
11. Muslim beliefs on animal testing Islam does allow testing and experiments on animals if it is for improving human health or human safety. However Islam believes that you should not be cruel to animals and these experiments should only been done if absolutely necessary and are for the benefit of humans. These experiments or testing should not cause pain to the animal as the Qur'an says that animals have feelings (all animals should be slaughtered in a painless way) This is because the Qur'an says that animals are created by Allah (God). It is God who provided for you all manner of livestock, that you may ride on some of them and from some you may derive your food. And other uses in them for you to satisfy your heart's desires. It is on them, as on ships, that you make your journeys. --Qur'an 40:79-80
12. Modern Christians views on animal testing Modern Christian thinking is largely compassionate to animals and less willing to accept that there is an unbridgeable gap between animals and human beings. Although most theologians(people who study nature of God and religion belief) don't accept that animals have rights, they do acknowledge that some animals display sufficient consciousness and self-awareness to deserve ethical consideration. The growth of the environmental movement has also radically changed Christian ideas about the role human beings play in relation to nature. Few Christians nowadays think that nature exists to serve the human race, and there is a general acceptance that human authority over nature should be seen as stewardship and partnership rather than power and abuse. This has significantly softened Christian attitudes to animals.
13. Hinduism views on animal testing Hindu quotes: "How can he practice true compassion who eats the flesh of an animal to fatten his own flesh?" "Do not kill any animal for pleasure, see harmony in nature, and lend a helping hand to allliving creatures.“ Hindu’s believe the cow is a sacred animal and shouldn’t be harmed in anyway and not to be eaten. "If someone were to ask me what the most important outward manifestation of Hinduism was, I would suggest that it was the idea of cow protection," --Mahatma Gandhi.
14. Judaism views on animal testing Judaism teaches that we are forbidden to be cruel to animals and that we must treat them with care. Since animals are part of God's creation, people have special responsibilities to them. These concepts are short in the Hebrew phrase tsa'arba'alei chayim, the biblical order not to cause "pain to any living creature." While the Torah clearly indicates that people are to have “power over the fish of the sea, and over the rooster of the air, and over every living thing that creeps upon the earth" (Gen. 1:28), there was to be a basic relatedness, and people were to consider the rights of animals. Animals are also God's creatures, possessing sympathy and the capacity for feeling pain; therefore they must be protected and treated with compassion and honestly.
