ANIMAL ETHICS
POTENTIAL ISSUES PRESENTATION
CCII Spring 2017
Kristen McLaughlin
WHAT IS THE ISSUE?
 Animals are used as subjects of testing products and new research throughout the medical
and commercial industries.
 People argue to whether or not this is always ethical, as there are pros and cons for both
sides.
 Humans have an obligation to not abuse animals for the sake of research or greed, there are
many ways to go about testing or experimenting while still being ethical.
POTENTIAL QUESTIONS
 What factors lead to unethical animal treatment?
 How can this be avoided in companies?
 How can animal testing positively aid medical research?
 At what point is unethical treatment considered abuse?
 When is animal testing necessary/unnecessary?
RESEARCH AVAILABLE
 ERIC (on the EBSCO platform)- Rowan Library Database
 Universities have done research and studies on this topic

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES
 There is a wide-range of how animals are used in testing and may be hard to differentiate which research
is able to use animals and which research can find alternatives
 Many people have different opinions on whether or not this matters and may never come to an
agreement, and some people argue based on purely emotions and not always logic
 Some articles or research facilities can write about this topic with bias either for or against animal testing
and can make up facts or statements to support their own arguement
WHY IS IT RELEVANT/ WORTH EXPLORING?
 I chose this issue because I can see both sides of why it is ethical or not and want to find out more about
this
 I believe animals should not be abused for selfish or greedy reasons, but for some medical research it
may be necessary to use animals in experiments
 There are also alternatives to this all together or ways to avoid hurting animals in the processes of
testing
