Andy Rubin co-founded Danger which was later acquired by Google in 2005 and became the foundation for Android. The first Android phone, the HTC Dream, was released in 2008 running Android 1.0. The Open Handset Alliance (OHA) was established in 2007 by Google and includes 78 companies who are allowed to use the Android source code and develop applications. A major reason Nokia did not develop Android phones was because it was not a member of the OHA.
