2. WHAT I NEED TO DO
As well as my final product being a TV drama trailer, I will also need
to make two different ancillary tasks which will be:
1. Poster for the series
2. Magazine front cover which promotes the series
I will be needing to analyze various different posters and magazines
of TV dramas to get inspiration and study what they all have in
common so I can make my own creations seem more realistic and
try follow some conventions of them.
4. BREAKING BAD
Shows its main character standing powerfully. Shows
he is the main and most significant character. He has
all the focus. People would manage to recognise the
TV series with just him even if there was no title or
writing.
Title of the series featured in its significant font. More
recognisable.
Includes powerful message from the character.
Shows TV channel name.
The black and white create a more serious, gritty
sense.
5. SKINS
Features all main characters, tries to make them all
as important as the next. Multi strand.
Also features its title in the significant font, very large
so eye-catching.
Daytime – more lighthearted.
Lots of colour, vibrant, more relaxed
6. THE WALKING DEAD
Only features protagonist, shows characters
significance.
Features title in signature font,
Shows TV channels name
Very bland colours cause a gritty feel
7. PEAKY BLINDERS
Featuring main character, close up, all focus on him
shows he is important and significant, the fact half his
face is hidden suggests danger.
Again shows large title in signature font,
Also features actor name of the main character in
signature titles font, more noticeable, attracts people
who haven’t seen the series but know of the
character.
9. THE WALKING DEAD
The main character is shown and will be easily
recognisable, takes up most of the magazine
Cover line hypes up the show more making
audiences more curious and want to watch it.
More cover lines talking about different things so the
magazine is not only about the show.
Entertainment typography changed to further fit the
series.
10. SKINS
Three most notable/fan favorites, recognisable
characters used in the front cover. Audiences
attracted more to the magazine
Cover line again hypes up the series
Over cover lines link to music but not to the series
11. BREAKING BAD
Both actors playing well known characters instantly
recognisable by audiences. Take up most of the
magazine
Cover line hypes up the show
More cover lines not relevant to the series, most
focus will still be on the characters
12. PEAKY BLINDERS
Cover line manages to attract a bigger audience by
naming both stars Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy
“New” is emphasized, creates excitement and
curiosity.
The series title is not in its normal font and blends
into the magazine, less noticable
Actors take up most of the magazine.
