The hip joint is a ball and socket joint between the femoral head and acetabulum. It provides stability for weight bearing while allowing some mobility. The acetabulum cups the femoral head, and various ligaments like the iliofemoral ligament stabilize the joint. The femoral head has an epiphyseal blood supply from lateral and medial vessels, while the neck and shaft receive blood from an extracapsular arterial ring. The hip joint allows flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, and rotation.
