How Does Body Image Affect Self Esteem
Media and body image
How media and body image effects self esteem
To lack self esteem means to lack confidence in yourself, essentially, its how you see your body, not
only when you look in a mirror but the mental image of how you perceive your body. With a damaged
self esteem an individual can feel worthless. Media can seriously damage a young teenagers self
esteem with the way it portrays the female body. According to thinspiration alludes to symbolism
normally shared via web based networking media that urges a client to be thin. It is a self perception
that is perfect to numerous around the globe, particularly by models in media. Models are advertised
so falsely that young girls may begin to wonder if there is something wrong with them or why they
don t look like what people perceive as beautiful. The way they view their body is affected negatively
as a result. This then leads to feeling overwhelmed and low. Threads on fat shaming or discussions
about ideal body weight can be found all over social media lowering the self esteem of venerable
teenagers.. Thousands of images with hashtags of thinspiration and bonespiration (which just happens
to be very thin images meant inspire certain body ideals) can be found all over social media With the
promotion of unrealistic body images, adolescents begin to envy the way they look and viewing it in a
negative manner. discuss how body image dissatisfaction is obtaining negative views about one s
physical body, shape and weight. Individuals with a big level of confidence know who they are. They
think using logic and reason and discover companions that accept them for who they are. Individuals
with a high level of confidence feel responsible for their lives and are aware of their gifts and
abilities.. With studies showing self esteem is impacted by social media, anything on the internet can
influence someone, somewhere. Negative images impact self esteem negatively and vise versa,

Defining The Contemporary Labels Of China s Youth Consumers
1. Introduction
Youth consumers rising demands for contemporary labels are hard to miss. Nowadays, contemporary
labels receive a high level of attention when it comes to the Generation Y. As contemporary labels
consumers make very distinct purchase decision in this product domain that they differ from the
respective mass market consumers. They are subconsciously also forming a sort of consumer behavior
that was known in society as conspicuous consumption. By linking conspicuous consumption with
contemporary labels, this essay will investigate the relationship between the two elements and how did
it equate together in this marketing environment. Examples of contemporary labels that China s youth
consumers like to conduct conspicuous consumption includes brands like Alexander Wang that has
been successful in addressing the need for minimalism that references athleticism in its appearance
(Walker, 2011:178). The rationale behind formulating this essay is aimed to define the contemporary
labels and the concept of conspicuous consumption that is currently widespread and on going in China
after its modernization and the rise of the super rich . Furthermore, it will serve as an investigation to
the extent which purchasing contemporary labels represent a form of conspicuous consumption.
Consumers actively seeking products that differ from mainstream and companies regard this consumer
behavior as an opportunity beyond saturated mass market.

English Song Critique
The first goal I set for the second quarter was to Write and record an English song. While I did not
completely finish a song, I developed instrumentals, lyrics, and melody lines for two songs.
Interestingly, I brainstormed the ideas for both projects while walking my dog, Bandit.
The first, which I have tentatively titled Melody, started with me humming a rhythmic piano part, then
a melody line. Next, I developed the instrumental in GarageBand, with an electric guitar part as a
placeholder for the vocals. I found some really cool techno/electronic effects, percussion parts, and
bass parts, and utilized them in my project. I scribbled some rough lyric ideas, then brought them into
class one day and implored Vanessa to help me finish the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The singer could be the significant other of a criminal, or perhaps their child, wondering about the
psychological meaning behind the criminal s behavior. It will likely develop into a story song, which
contains the easily recognized elements of telling a narrative, linear story beginning, middle and end,
with a recognizable story arc that contains the classic elements of drama and delivery; it also has
relatable imagery to appeal to audiences (Anderson). Unlike Melody, for this song I developed the
melody of the chorus first, building around the opening line you re an outlaw. While I was singing, I
couldn t help but feel that the song sounded Taylor Swift like, which is a very different sound from my
other two pieces. I didn t want to forget my song idea, so as soon as I returned home after the walk, I
recorded the melody in GarageBand using my MIDI keyboard and worked out some lyrics. I fleshed
out the track with guitar chords and a drum beat, and later recorded the vocals in the vocal booth. In
the second semester, I will compose the verses and

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallow Essay
Tell the truth! Every person has made this remark. Realistically, each person has their own perception
of truth. Truth defined according to Webster Dictionary as that which is true or in accordance with fact
or reality. Based on knowledge of the person at that specific time, truth is defined; therefore, truth may
vary for different people. Throughout Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow, the characters Albus
Dumbledore, Severus Snape, and Harry Potter attend to truth. In the novel, Albus Dumbledore has his
own way of defining truth. Dumbledore sees truth through the big picture. He shares enough
knowledge to give hints about how to find the truth, but not enough information to state the truth. In
the novel, Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour personally delivers Dumbledore s bequests to Harry,
Ron and Hermione. This is very unusual for him to come in person. Dumbledore left Ron a
deluminator, Hermione the Tales of Beedle the Bard, and Harry a snitch and the sword of Gryffindor
(which was not his to give). Scrimgeous then questions each about the importance of each object. The
Ministry of Magic is especially suspicious why this amazing wizard left the objects for these three
students out of everyone. What the Ministry of Magic or these three did not know at the time was each
had a hint that would help them later. Albus Dumbledore shares enough knowledge so the other
characters can find the truth for themselves. By doing so, Dumbledore shows them what they need in a

Reticular Formation
Movement of neural impulses down the body of an axon
The movement of neural impulses down the body of an axon are are activated when we scratch Mr.
Cava. Nerve impulses are activated when touched and there is a sudden change in voltage which
triggers a wave of electrical activity that passes from the cell body along the length of the axon to the
synapse. Every time Mr. Cava is scratched signals are sent in the body that tell him he is being
scratched.
The reticular formation
The reticular formation affects general arousal, alertness, and sleep. If Mr. Cava is constantly being
poked by a minion he would eventually ignore it. When the poking stops, he d probably be aware and
notice that it stopped. It also keeps him alert and aroused. If he gets stabbed while sleeping he should
immediately wake up and be alert.

Without the corpus callosum, communication between the two hemispheres would not be able to
happen, no messages would be carried. But if we were to split Mr. Cava s brain in two, destroying the
corpus callosum, he would barely change. The way he perceives information would differ. Hand eye
coordination would be a disaster.
The sensory cortex
The sensory cortex registers and processes body sensations. If a minion probes an area near the
bottom, Mr. Cava would be able to feel sensations on the tongue.
Feedback and the endocrine system
The endocrine system is the body s slow chemical communication system. They are a set of glands
that secrete hormones. For Mr. Cava s body, the hormones impact many parts of our lives including
growth, reproduction, metabolism, and mood. When in danger or an emergency, the hormones from
the adrenal glands increase heart rate, blood pressure, and blood sugar. The most influential gland is
the the pituitary gland which releases hormones that control his height. It also controls other glands in
the endocrine system.

Brown V Ferguson Case
As it neared one hundred years after the onset of the interstate conflict which centered around slavery
s place in the United States, black citizens were still deprived of the rights guaranteed to all Americans
by the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment, prompting the premier civil rights
organization, the NAACP, to seek equality through the most logical method, overruling the legal base
of the institution. The Brown v. Board ruling in 1954 seemed to be the death knell of segregation
wrought by the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson case. Unfortunately the movement of mass resistance proved
to be able to out maneuver law, particularly in the south, thanks to segregationist majorities holding
legislative, executive, and law enforcing power. To force the judicially mandated desegregation on

ally of UGA Charles Bloch published a book title state s rights: the Law of the Land, (pg. 50),
allowing him to give legal counsel having literally written the book on the subject. UGA officials, of
course, asserted that they maintained impartiality in regards to race when making their decision,

these claims these ideas were clearly the reason for the rejection of Ward, Holmes, and Hunter, which

Who Is Tom Robinson Innocent In To Kill A Mockingbird
Martin Luther King Jr once said, The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad
people but the silence over that by the good people. There are people in our world that are silently
good like M.L.K said. The silently good people can do great things all the time without much people
knowing about it, or they can just mind their own business and leave other people alone. Some of
those good people get taken over by bad people even though they are innocent. Those people are like

President Dwight D. Eisenhower
President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the beloved and protective father figure of post World War II, is
perhaps most revered for his competence, and whose leadership as a Commander In Chief kept a
nation safe during an unsettling period of the Cold War. He is highly regarded as one of our country s
greatest military leaders; however, he is considered a good, but not a great president. Great presidents
inherently possess a visionary leadership role; that is they know the direction in which they want to
steer the country to, where it came from, and where it currently is. They are leaders with a moral

foreign affairs president. After all what else could we expect out of WWII s most powerful leader?
Regarding all the glory, honor, and power of the presidency, none is felt more strongly than in the

The Importance Of Social Workers From A Professional...
The importance for social workers to understand communities from a professional perspective is to
help eliminate any potential bias and emotional and/or physical attachment to the studied community.
At the same time, the social worker views the studied community through the lens of residents living
within that community without clouded judgment and fulfillment of personal agenda. This
understanding helps the community generally and/or the specific families living within it link to the
macro level of social work; where the social worker acts as a liaison (or linkage) between the studied
community and policy makers. The benefit of this linkage between the mezzo and macro level can
generate the flow of revenue within the studied community. But one must ask, what gets lost through
this linkage? Some may argue that the dominating policies, laws, and or regulations (Budget) of white
heteronormative society can lose historical and cultural context.

Naturalism in Miss Julie Essay
Naturalism in Miss Julie
Writers involved in the naturalist movement believed that actors lines should be spoken naturally, and
that mechanical movements, vocal effects, and irrational gestures should be banished. A return to
reality was proposed, with the old theatrical attitudes replaced with effects produced solely by the
voice. There was a call to individualise characters, instead of generalising them, to produce characters
whose minds and bodies would function as they would in real life. Strindberg s Miss Julie has been
said to be an excellent example of this movement, as it involves stress on multiple motivation of
action; a departure from the stereotypical depictions of character; and random, illogical ... Show more

There is also the bluntly overt exchange of lines such as, Beast! Menial! Lackey! Menial s whore,
lackey s harlot! It has been proposed that this retreat to the characteristics of old theatricality is
perhaps only redeemed in the last minutes, when the stage action becomes solemnly symbolic. The
end of the relationship is represented by the decapitation of Julie s songbird; the sudden ring of the
Count s bell introduces a character that has been silent throughout, present only in spirit. Jean places a
razor in Julie s hand, and she walks out to her death in silence, as if in a hypnotic trance. Her death is
not as melodramatic or theatrical as her previous behaviour, so this goes some way to compensate for
earlier lapses.
Strindberg expressed an aversion to dividing his play into acts, as he believed that, the declining
capacity for illusion is possibly affected by intervals, which give spectators the time to reflect and
thereby withdraw from the suggestive influence of the author hypnotist. His theory centres on the
assumption that by eliminating intervals, which act as breaks from the action, continuity would
improve, thereby increasing the intense nature of the plays action and creating a claustrophobic
environment. In order not to break the illusion, he also wanted to be rid of any musicians that the
audience could see, and would not

Dialectical Journal For Orpheus
A passage in unit 3, pages 121 160,was about a man named, Orpheus, who was the son of the Muses
and a Thracian prince. His sad story begins happily when he waits for his bride to be, to marry him.
But tragically his bride dies after being stung by a viper and he quickly gets on a boat, to go to the
underground world to get his bride back. As it says, O Gods who rule the dark and silent world, To
you all born of a woman needs must come. All lovely things at last go down to you. You are the debtor
who is always paid. A little while we tarry up on earth. Then we are yours forever and forever. But I

This passage fits the novel because it helps add to the plot line. For instance, Orpheus was devoted
after his wife s passing. Therefore, he was determined to go to the Underground world or also called
the world of death, and try to convince the ruler of Hades (ruler of the dead) to bring his wife,
Eurydice, back to life. With Orpheus is a mortal amongst the great gods who inherit musical talent, he
sang his heart out to the Gods of the dead and stole the hearts of their evil souls. They eventually
became hypnotized by his angel like voice and granted his wishes. Unfortunately, his wife banished
through his eyes after the Gods strictly told him not to look back at his wife until they were above the
ground of the Death world. The novels read, Then he turned to her her. It was too soon... She had
slipped back into the darkness. All he heard was one faint word, farewell, (142). After this happened,
Orpheus tried to go back to the second world, but they refused to let him entrance again because he
was a mortal who ve already passed through their world. The importance of this passage in the novel s
message is that when you love someone so much, never let them go because one day they could

Analysis Of The Address By Livia Bitton Jackson
I have read several books, poems, and memoirs on WWII and the Holocaust. Diary of Anne Frank,
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on. Interestingly,
all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during those events, never
after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know. Perhaps they think it will
bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other hand, approaches the subject of
what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted genocide and a horrible war in her
short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years
by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly
leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period. Writing in an
emotionless style shows how these events affected and changed the narrator. The narrator does not
even recognise her own voice and describes it as strange and unnatural . She speaks in a monotone
fashion when the past is brought up because she is not sure how to handle it emotionally. ... Show

The address the narrator is given and her old possessions left there represent her memories. When she
says that after the liberation I felt no interest at all in that stored stuff she is actually saying that after
she was liberated she did not want to think about the past. Later Minco uses imagery to describe the
narrator s fear of the past by describing them as things that had been stored in cases and boxes and
were waiting in vain until they would be put back in their places. Her memories want to be
remembered, she wants to remember the past, but it hurts to think about things that had been part of a
bond that no longer

his dad and how people would say he was the worst and he never did anything so Okonkwo Decided
not to go that road so he made something of himself but little as he knows he changed for the worst
and not the better. Throughout this book somebody is always either getting hurt being saved or just

What Are Jean Toomer s Struggles
1920 s Struggles
During the Harlem Renaissance there were many inspirational authors, poets, and artistic influences in
the African American culture, along with women s rights. Two of which are Jean Toomer, who wrote
Georgia Dusk and Amy Lowell who wrote, New Heaven s for Old. Georgia Dusk portrays the lives of
African Americans from an inside perspective that allows readers to grasp onto what it was like to live
with racism and diversity during that time period. While at the same time Amy Lowell is describing
her life as a women with no rights but those in the house, both views inflict upon the idea of being
unvaluable and underappreciated for being the race or gender that they are. Jean Toomer was born in
Washington, D.C., and lived from 1894 1967. While growing up with his grandfather, Toomer never

Reviewing The Contract With Marshall
In examining the contract with Marshall there are a number of factors to consider. I would have to
examine all of the professional, legal, and spiritual implications of deciding to part ways with doing
business with his store. Marshall was an intricate part of getting the grapes initial recognition and the
impending financial success may not have been possible without his willingness to promote the grapes
in his store. Without taking the proper steps to rectify this situation in a peaceful manner, I might

Investopedia states: An implied contract is an agreement created by actions of the parties involved, but
it is not written or spoken. This is a contract assumed to have been drawn. In this case, there is no
written record nor any actual verbal agreement. (Investopedia, 2010) Under these terms, I would have
to determine what a fair interpretation of our implied contract would be and to what extent Marshall
should be compensated under those terms. I am under no legal obligation to continue to provide goods
and services and would instead insist on using a mutually agreed upon mediator to hash out a possible
financial settlement to compensate Marshall for his promotion of the product and find out whether or
not the new company that would purchase my product would be willing to offer Marshall a set rate
with their acquisition as a part of the sale. Marshall s Legal Defense In Marshall s defense I would
have to be prepared that he could use Promissory Estoppel as a legal defense should our case be
brought before a judge. If we are unwilling to come to an agreement the judge might enact this
particular method to award damages to Marshall based of our implied contract in good faith. In the

our view, defensive in that it estops a promisor

Nuclear Deterrence is the Best Defense Against Nuclear War
In 1945, a great technological innovation was dropped over Japan, the atomic bomb. Ever since the
bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world has faced the threat of nuclear attack. In reaction to
this, world governments have been forced to find a defense against nuclear attack. One solution to the
danger of nuclear attack is the use of nuclear deterrence. Nuclear deterrence is the possession and
launching of nuclear weapons for the sole purpose of defense and retaliation against a nuclear attack
from another country. Nuclear deterrence is the best answer to the danger of nuclear war, resulting in
world security and the prevention of nuclear war. However, some people believe ... Show more

There is a huge expense in maintaining and building the nuclear arms that we use for deterrence.
Nuclear information is secret, taking great amounts of money and time, to research and keep it
confidential. Power is gained from the research and development, which is definitely worth the
expense. The great amounts of money spent on nuclear technology help ensure the security of the
people of the United States. It takes huge amounts of money to have the edge in nuclear technology.
However, nuclear deterrence is even cheaper than war. The cost of building, operating, and
maintaining nuclear weapons is only $26.7 billion per year (Hellman). This is significantly less than
the cost of the 1991 [Persian Gulf] war, which came to nearly $80 billion (Dobbs). Deterrence is
economically and politically intelligent.
The Cold War is over and some people believe that we do not need nuclear deterrence anymore. The
U.S.S.R has fallen and Russia poses little threat to launch a nuclear attack on the United States.
Because of this, Russia and the United States have begun disarming their nuclear weapons. The
United States has reduced its nuclear stockpile of warheads from 31,265 in 1965 to about 10,455 in
2002, enough to use for deterrence ( Table of . . . ). This disarming agreement is only between these
two countries and they will continue to keep a minimum number of these nuclear warheads to deter
other countries. They realize that they are not a threat to each other,

to rise. On top of the murders you also have people losing their lives through misfire and gun related
suicides. The total death toll of all gun related deaths averages over 30,000 per year in the U.S.
(http://blogs.kqed.org/lowdown/2013/03/07/u s gun deaths visualizing the numbers/). I believe that
enforcing stricter gun laws will contribute to getting these numbers lower. The numbers do not lie, we
as a society have a problem with gun violence and we need to do something to fix it.
You re right I m wrong : This step in the pillow method requires me to look at the problem from my co
workers point of view while trying to find the flaws in my own argument (Alder Proctor, p. 104).
Switching perspectives, I can see my coworker s point on how introducing new gun laws can lead to a
slippery slope. There is always the chance that the enforcement of new gun laws could not have a
significant affect on the rate of gun related deaths in our country. This also could lead to tougher laws
being put in place until we reach the point were guns are banned all together. If guns were to be
banned all together, it would put law abiding citizens at risk of criminals who disregard the law. It
would put Americans citizens at risk of martial law

My Experience Of Swimming
Swimming demands nothing short of perfection.
I was ten when I first entered into a major Swimming competition, a stepping stone towards achieving
my dreams. Hours were poured into training and sacrifices made simply for a perfect race to the
podium. I had arrived 3 hours earlier, and to my dismay that the competition had been delayed. My
parents hid their apparent annoyance, in hope that the long wait would prove its worth, yet only to find
out it actually was not. The long wait took its toil on me and panic overcame me at the starting blocks.
In a field of 8 swimmers, the number 8 flashed brightly against my name, glistening tears welled up in
my eyes as failure washed over me.
I hated that part of Swimming. It washed away hours and years of work and sacrifices, dashed the big
dreams of a 10 year old, and failed high expectations laid bare for all to see. I hated Swimming for its

In that sense, perfectionism is like a drug, an insidious poison that infiltrates every part of me. A self
induced madness that one moment raises me to the pinnacle of elation, and the next drags me to the
darkest recesses of frustration and disappointment. Sometimes I think I would trade up almost
anything for one more hit of that pleasure, almost completely regardless of the consequence.
Everyone has a side of him or her that may ultimately lead to their downfall. Mine is, of no doubt, my
obsession with perfection. It is a question I face with on a daily basis: How far am I willing to go to
attain that perfection, to turn my ideals into reality?
At then, for most, the answer to the question is simple: As far as I want to. For me, the answer was
even simpler, though much complicated: All the way. Even if it means giving up the things that should
matter the most, I guess I was blinded looking through the lenses of

Dr. John Michael Thomassen can perform a breast lift (Mastopexy) alone or in combination with a
Breast Augmentation; however, many of Dr. Thomassen s patients choose to have these two
procedures performed in a single surgery.
What Causes Breast Changes?
As time passes, the breasts lose their youthful contour, become less firm and the skin loses its
elasticity. These changes may result from gravity, weight fluctuations, pregnancy/breastfeeding and/or
genetics.
What a Breast Lift Can Accomplish
Dr. Thomassen performs Breast Lift procedures at his surgical suite in Fort Lauderdale to reduce the
size of the areola and create a more youthful, uplifted breast profile; as a result, patients enjoy a

Breast Augmentation with a Lift The Procedure
A Breast Augmentation with a Lift is performed as an outpatient procedure at Dr. Thomassen s

Plenitude by L Oreal was introduced to the US market in 1988. Eight years since its introduction, it
has quickly become the #2 brand in the market only to lose it later to Pond s. Plenitude also hit a four
year sales plateau and was still not making any money in the US market. L Oreal s problems and root
causes should first be identified and addressed. The root causes of L Oreal s problems are: 1. Wrong
assumptions of the target market 2. Applying a market strategy based on the those assumptions 3.

As stated above, Plenitude is perceived to be a product for older women and it is an expensive brand.
To be able to reach a wider range of segments in the market and get back to the class to the mass
strategy, Plenitude has to change its image and the way people perceive its products. Looking at the
perceptual map (exhibit 9), Pond s and Oil of Olay which dominate the market are perceived
differently. L Oreal can position Plenitude in a similar way which attracts the masses and still maintain
its position as a class above the others: Technologically advanced a bit pricier but worth it since it has
better quality Readily available Change tag line from reduces signs of aging to something like stay
young and healthy to remove link to old age This will help Plenitude widen its target market to include
other segments. In terms of promotion and advertising, L Oreal should change the star product
approach and instead focus on the whole product line or perhaps a set of products for a given target
segment. In this way, L Oreal can inform its customers on its products which should also help them in
choosing the right product for themselves. L Oreal should also focus on building the brand Plenitude
since this is something that customers are not aware of. They only know L Oreal. One of the problems
mentioned was that people were confused on which product to choose.

Behavioral Parent Training For Managing ADHD and Disruptive Behavior Disorders
Behavioral Parent Training For Managing ADHD and Disruptive Behavior Disorders
Excessive levels of hyperactivity and inattention can be extremely impairing for both the afflicted
child and their caretakers. Children with ADHD can experience problems with cogni tion, poor
academic achievement, troubled peer relationships, and heightened household conflict (Barkley, 1997;
Loe 2007; Bagwell, 2001; Harpen, 2005). These children often present with in creased aggression that
can result in a comorbid diagnosis of conduct disorder or other disruptive behavioral disorders
(Jensen, 1997). The heterogeneous symptoms of this disorder can make se lecting a treatment course
particularly challenging. While prescribing stimulant medication has become the golden standard for
dealing with an attentional system gone awry, there is growing concern over the use of
pharmacological interventions for children since the side effects of such use during this period of
development may not yet be fully understood. Additionally these drugs do not directly curtail
aggressive and defiant behavior that many of these children display but they may improve a child s
ability to benefit from other psychosocial interventions.
Of the existing non pharmacological interventions aimed at treating ADHD, behavioral parent training
(BPT) has garnered substantial empirical support. These programs are geared to wards children who

Bomba And Orquestas Influence On American Music
Did you know that most of the modern musical forms have come from ancestor s past sense of music?
From bomba to plena, Cajun music to swamp pop and zydeco and conjunto and orquesta Tejano to tex
mex, music has long been the art of retaking art forms and molded it into different art. Music will
continue to thrive and evolve if it remains organic in its nature. Bomba dates to the colonial period of
Puerto Rico, and Plena would arrive on the scene in the early 20th century taking roots from bomba in
southern Puerto Rico. This percussion driven music was meant to move people to dance. And while
both are often mentioned as the same group, there is differences in each. Bomba is often accompanied
with sixteen beats, unlike Plena which has one basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orquestas existed prior to the new movement, but they were toned down from what they were today.
Orquestas commonly consisted of one or two violins and ushered with guitar accompanist. But as new
generations came became more Americanized, they started to blend their culture with Americans, the
result was orquestas Tejano. Orquesta tejana was often looked down upon by Mexican nationals, for
downplaying their own cultural heritage and joining the American mainstream, this divided the two
groups. Two such innovators of Orquesta tejana were Armando Marroqoin and Paco Betancourt, these
two formed Ideal records in 1946. Armando would reach national stardom, when he produced Las
Delicas (Polka) and his ranchero style. However, while most of the popular age of Orquesta Tejana
was in the 1940 s 1950 s It continues to thrive today in the form of Tex Mex, and La Onda Chicana.
Another popular group that pioneered Tejano introducing blues and swing into their music was
Carmen y Laura. Carmen y Laura would pave the way for new pioneers to branch off and to start new
and ground breaking genres. In San Antonio, Falco Jimenez would revolutionize the Tejano style with
introducing accordion. Nortena or the Music of the North became a national mainstay. Carmen y
Laura would become the forerunners to introduce Spanish music to the increasing American

Truman Capote Character Traits
Truman Capote was conceived Truman Streckfus Persons on September 30, 1924, in New Orleans,
Louisiana. Capote was as intriguing a character as the individuals who showed up in his stories. His
folks were an odd match, a residential area young lady named Lillie Mae and a beguiling rascal called
Arch. They went to a great extent to disregard their child, regularly abandoning him being taken care
of by others. Capote spent quite a bit of his young life under the watchful eye of his mom s relatives in
Monroeville, Alabama. In Monroeville, Capote got to know a young Harper Lee. The two were
paradoxical to one another. Capote was a touchy individual who was singled out by different children
for being a pushover, while Lee was an unpleasant and tumble boyish girl. In spite of their differences,
Lee observed Capote to be an enjoyment, calling him Merlin for his inventive and imaginative ...

Islam And The Common Cause Of Unity
In the religion of Islam, Muslims believe in the common cause of unity. United under one creed that is
the first pillar of Islam and the primary and absolute faith that one should devote to. It is the Shahada,
which says, I believe in no gods but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah , but
even though this is the common creed among all Muslims around the world, many chose to divide
themselves and separated themselves under a slightly different and innovated creed.
Since the Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Islam started to embed into the lives of the
people of Arabia and as the number of people taking Shahada started to grow, they followed and
trailed behind the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Soon After the demise of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) in the 7th century the divide started to arise inside the Muslim communities in
the land of Arabia when disagreements over the successor to the Prophet Muhammad arose.
The Sunnis maintain to believe that there was going to be a formal selection of who the Prophet s
successor or Caliph was going to be because according to Quran that is the rightful way of selection
that includes the consensus of the majority votes. But the admirers of Ali(RA), who was the son in law
of the Prophet Muhammad, protested and believed that the Prophet(PBUH) had chosen His son in law
to be His rightful successor. According to the Shia Muslims, they believe Prophet Muhammad(PBUH)
designated Imam Ali(RA) as His successor by Allah s

Analysis Of The Dream Of The Rood
It is well known that the way a story is written has an impact on how the reader understands it. There
are certain aspects of a story where the author has the ability to control how it is interpreted. The
Dream of the Rood is written so that it makes it difficult for the reader to see the difference between a
savior and a warrior. If a story was written simply stating the individual s goal rather than how that
goal was achieved it would be easy to see them as a savior but it could be difficult to see them as a
warrior. Presenting literary analysis from different sources will explain how the author portrayed the
protagonists as both saviors and warriors and by comparing characteristics of both will explain why
they were portrayed this way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Dream of the Rood if Christ was presented the same way, while he would still be considered a
savior, one would find it difficult to convince others to view him as warrior as well. But, because
Christ is presented as a confident hero, the poet displays his willingness and selflessness to follow
through with the crucifixion because he knows it is for the benefit of all mankind.
In the poem, the rood, or cross, is depicted as the individual telling the story of the crucifixion. The
poet writes the story so it is understood that the cross is, like Jesus, a warrior. If the cross can tell a tale
it is assumed that it would possess the ability to experience feelings. By explaining the cross
experience in the way the poet does it is easy to see how the cross possesses warrior like
characteristics.
I trembled when the man embraced me; I dared not bow down to earth, stoop to the surface of the
ground, but I had to stand fast.
I was reared a rood; I raised up a mighty king, the heaven s lord; I dared not bow in homage. (Dream
of the Rood, 41 45)
The poem explains the feelings of the cross throughout the crucifixion and after. Because the cross
knows what the future holds when Christ is approaching and is able to withstand the torture and
remain strong, for it knows it is fighting alongside Christ throughout the ordeal, the cross is deserving
of being considered a warrior. If the cross was taken out of this story and replaced with a man

The Crusades Through Arab Eyes
According to Amin Maalouf, It seems clear that the Arab East still sees the West as a natural enemy.
Against that enemy, any hostile action be it political, military, or based on oil is considered no more
than legitimate vengeance. And there can be no doubt that the schism between these two worlds dates
from the Crusades, deeply felt by the Arabs, even today, as an act of rape (Amin Maalouf). When
reflecting on The Crusades Through Arab Eyes, this quote always sticks out as the most powerful
piece of Maalouf s work. As a growing college student this quote brings harsh reality to the world I
live in. I believe as you grow through life, you become more and more aware of the world around you
through education. In order to be aware you must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He holds nothing back when describing the gruesome battles and horrid crusaders who were ruthless
killers during these wars.
No matter if you are from the north, south, east or west you can feel the emotion through Maalouf s
writing. I believe his goal was to link human beings together through emotion and sympathy. Emotion
is something all humans can relate to because it is something we all feel and have in our life. While
reading about this Jihad I sympathized and felt for the Muslim people fighting the heartless crusaders.
I have been taught my whole life that these Muslim people have been the enemies against the
Christians. Even to the point where my education has dehumanized the Muslim people. Needless to
say, that old view is long gone. Through this story of the crusades I believe Maalouf has set out to
break the predisposed dehumanization by telling emotional and relatable stories from the Arab point
of view, or should I say Arab Eyes .
In order for Maalouf to accomplish this change of beliefs successfully, he had to acquire many
credible sources for the readers to trust him. Located in the back of the book, Amin Maalouf has
placed a sources section in order for readers to trust his credibility. The two types of sources that can
be found throughout The Crusades Through Arab Eyes are primary and secondary sources. Primary
sources are works such as; quotes, government documents, letters, and records. While Secondary
sources are those such as; books,

  • 4. English Song Critique The first goal I set for the second quarter was to Write and record an English song. While I did not completely finish a song, I developed instrumentals, lyrics, and melody lines for two songs. Interestingly, I brainstormed the ideas for both projects while walking my dog, Bandit. The first, which I have tentatively titled Melody, started with me humming a rhythmic piano part, then a melody line. Next, I developed the instrumental in GarageBand, with an electric guitar part as a placeholder for the vocals. I found some really cool techno/electronic effects, percussion parts, and bass parts, and utilized them in my project. I scribbled some rough lyric ideas, then brought them into class one day and implored Vanessa to help me finish the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The singer could be the significant other of a criminal, or perhaps their child, wondering about the psychological meaning behind the criminal s behavior. It will likely develop into a story song, which contains the easily recognized elements of telling a narrative, linear story beginning, middle and end, with a recognizable story arc that contains the classic elements of drama and delivery; it also has relatable imagery to appeal to audiences (Anderson). Unlike Melody, for this song I developed the melody of the chorus first, building around the opening line you re an outlaw. While I was singing, I couldn t help but feel that the song sounded Taylor Swift like, which is a very different sound from my other two pieces. I didn t want to forget my song idea, so as soon as I returned home after the walk, I recorded the melody in GarageBand using my MIDI keyboard and worked out some lyrics. I fleshed out the track with guitar chords and a drum beat, and later recorded the vocals in the vocal booth. In the second semester, I will compose the verses and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallow Essay Tell the truth! Every person has made this remark. Realistically, each person has their own perception of truth. Truth defined according to Webster Dictionary as that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality. Based on knowledge of the person at that specific time, truth is defined; therefore, truth may vary for different people. Throughout Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow, the characters Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, and Harry Potter attend to truth. In the novel, Albus Dumbledore has his own way of defining truth. Dumbledore sees truth through the big picture. He shares enough knowledge to give hints about how to find the truth, but not enough information to state the truth. In the novel, Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour personally delivers Dumbledore s bequests to Harry, Ron and Hermione. This is very unusual for him to come in person. Dumbledore left Ron a deluminator, Hermione the Tales of Beedle the Bard, and Harry a snitch and the sword of Gryffindor (which was not his to give). Scrimgeous then questions each about the importance of each object. The Ministry of Magic is especially suspicious why this amazing wizard left the objects for these three students out of everyone. What the Ministry of Magic or these three did not know at the time was each had a hint that would help them later. Albus Dumbledore shares enough knowledge so the other characters can find the truth for themselves. By doing so, Dumbledore shows them what they need in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brown V Ferguson Case As it neared one hundred years after the onset of the interstate conflict which centered around slavery s place in the United States, black citizens were still deprived of the rights guaranteed to all Americans by the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment, prompting the premier civil rights organization, the NAACP, to seek equality through the most logical method, overruling the legal base of the institution. The Brown v. Board ruling in 1954 seemed to be the death knell of segregation wrought by the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson case. Unfortunately the movement of mass resistance proved to be able to out maneuver law, particularly in the south, thanks to segregationist majorities holding legislative, executive, and law enforcing power. Making use of heavy racist overtones, many Georgia state officials spoke of segregation of state schools, while unabashedly being motivated by racism, as being the chief representation of the exercise of states rights. Amusingly, this argument was so integral to the matter, that segregationist ally of UGA Charles Bloch published a book title state s rights: the Law of the Land, (pg. 50), allowing him to give legal counsel having literally written the book on the subject. UGA officials, of course, asserted that they maintained impartiality in regards to race when making their decision, regardless of the ample segregationist views among the staff. • 11. The Importance Of Social Workers From A Professional... The importance for social workers to understand communities from a professional perspective is to help eliminate any potential bias and emotional and/or physical attachment to the studied community. At the same time, the social worker views the studied community through the lens of residents living within that community without clouded judgment and fulfillment of personal agenda. This understanding helps the community generally and/or the specific families living within it link to the macro level of social work; where the social worker acts as a liaison (or linkage) between the studied community and policy makers. The benefit of this linkage between the mezzo and macro level can generate the flow of revenue within the studied community. But one must ask, what gets lost through this linkage? • 12. Naturalism in Miss Julie Essay Naturalism in Miss Julie Writers involved in the naturalist movement believed that actors lines should be spoken naturally, and that mechanical movements, vocal effects, and irrational gestures should be banished. A return to reality was proposed, with the old theatrical attitudes replaced with effects produced solely by the voice. There was a call to individualise characters, instead of generalising them, to produce characters whose minds and bodies would function as they would in real life. Strindberg s Miss Julie has been said to be an excellent example of this movement, as it involves stress on multiple motivation of action; a departure from the stereotypical depictions of character; and random, illogical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also the bluntly overt exchange of lines such as, Beast! Menial! Lackey! Menial s whore, lackey s harlot! It has been proposed that this retreat to the characteristics of old theatricality is perhaps only redeemed in the last minutes, when the stage action becomes solemnly symbolic. The end of the relationship is represented by the decapitation of Julie s songbird; the sudden ring of the Count s bell introduces a character that has been silent throughout, present only in spirit. Jean places a razor in Julie s hand, and she walks out to her death in silence, as if in a hypnotic trance. Her death is not as melodramatic or theatrical as her previous behaviour, so this goes some way to compensate for earlier lapses. Strindberg expressed an aversion to dividing his play into acts, as he believed that, the declining capacity for illusion is possibly affected by intervals, which give spectators the time to reflect and thereby withdraw from the suggestive influence of the author hypnotist. His theory centres on the assumption that by eliminating intervals, which act as breaks from the action, continuity would improve, thereby increasing the intense nature of the plays action and creating a claustrophobic environment. Diary of Anne Frank, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on. Interestingly, all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during those events, never after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know. Perhaps they think it will bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other hand, approaches the subject of what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted genocide and a horrible war in her short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period. • 27. Truman Capote Character Traits Truman Capote was conceived Truman Streckfus Persons on September 30, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Capote was as intriguing a character as the individuals who showed up in his stories. His folks were an odd match, a residential area young lady named Lillie Mae and a beguiling rascal called Arch. They went to a great extent to disregard their child, regularly abandoning him being taken care of by others. Capote spent quite a bit of his young life under the watchful eye of his mom s relatives in Monroeville, Alabama. In Monroeville, Capote got to know a young Harper Lee. The two were paradoxical to one another. Capote was a touchy individual who was singled out by different children for being a pushover, while Lee was an unpleasant and tumble boyish girl. In spite of their differences, Lee observed Capote to be an enjoyment, calling him Merlin for his inventive and imaginative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quinn 2 Lillie Mae, now calling herself Nina, could without much of a stretch be unfeeling or kind to Truman, and he never realized what s in store for her. She regularly singled out him for his delicate development, and for not resembling different young men. His stepfather appeared to be a more steady identity in the home, yet Truman was not keen on his assistance or support at the time. All things considered, he was authoritatively embraced by his stepfather, and his name was changed to Truman Garcia Capote in 1935. A fair understudy, Capote did well in the courses that intrigued him and gave careful consideration in those that did not. He went to a private young men s school in Manhattan from 1933 to 1936, where he enchanted some of his colleagues. An uncommon adolescent, Capote had a present for recounting stories and engaging ... • 28. Islam And The Common Cause Of Unity In the religion of Islam, Muslims believe in the common cause of unity. United under one creed that is the first pillar of Islam and the primary and absolute faith that one should devote to. It is the Shahada, which says, I believe in no gods but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah , but even though this is the common creed among all Muslims around the world, many chose to divide themselves and separated themselves under a slightly different and innovated creed. Since the Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Islam started to embed into the lives of the people of Arabia and as the number of people taking Shahada started to grow, they followed and trailed behind the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Soon After the demise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the 7th century the divide started to arise inside the Muslim communities in the land of Arabia when disagreements over the successor to the Prophet Muhammad arose. The Sunnis maintain to believe that there was going to be a formal selection of who the Prophet s successor or Caliph was going to be because according to Quran that is the rightful way of selection that includes the consensus of the majority votes. But the admirers of Ali(RA), who was the son in law of the Prophet Muhammad, protested and believed that the Prophet(PBUH) had chosen His son in law to be His rightful successor. According to the Shia Muslims, they believe Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) designated Imam Ali(RA) as His successor by Allah s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Analysis Of The Dream Of The Rood It is well known that the way a story is written has an impact on how the reader understands it. There are certain aspects of a story where the author has the ability to control how it is interpreted. The Dream of the Rood is written so that it makes it difficult for the reader to see the difference between a savior and a warrior. If a story was written simply stating the individual s goal rather than how that goal was achieved it would be easy to see them as a savior but it could be difficult to see them as a warrior. Presenting literary analysis from different sources will explain how the author portrayed the protagonists as both saviors and warriors and by comparing characteristics of both will explain why they were portrayed this way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Dream of the Rood if Christ was presented the same way, while he would still be considered a savior, one would find it difficult to convince others to view him as warrior as well. But, because Christ is presented as a confident hero, the poet displays his willingness and selflessness to follow through with the crucifixion because he knows it is for the benefit of all mankind. In the poem, the rood, or cross, is depicted as the individual telling the story of the crucifixion. The poet writes the story so it is understood that the cross is, like Jesus, a warrior. If the cross can tell a tale it is assumed that it would possess the ability to experience feelings. By explaining the cross experience in the way the poet does it is easy to see how the cross possesses warrior like characteristics. I trembled when the man embraced me; I dared not bow down to earth, stoop to the surface of the ground, but I had to stand fast. I was reared a rood; I raised up a mighty king, the heaven s lord; I dared not bow in homage. (Dream of the Rood, 41 45) The poem explains the feelings of the cross throughout the crucifixion and after. Because the cross knows what the future holds when Christ is approaching and is able to withstand the torture and remain strong, for it knows it is fighting alongside Christ throughout the ordeal, the cross is deserving of being considered a warrior. If the cross was taken out of this story and replaced with a man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Crusades Through Arab Eyes According to Amin Maalouf, It seems clear that the Arab East still sees the West as a natural enemy. Against that enemy, any hostile action be it political, military, or based on oil is considered no more than legitimate vengeance. And there can be no doubt that the schism between these two worlds dates from the Crusades, deeply felt by the Arabs, even today, as an act of rape (Amin Maalouf). When reflecting on The Crusades Through Arab Eyes, this quote always sticks out as the most powerful piece of Maalouf s work. As a growing college student this quote brings harsh reality to the world I live in. I believe as you grow through life, you become more and more aware of the world around you through education. In order to be aware you must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He holds nothing back when describing the gruesome battles and horrid crusaders who were ruthless killers during these wars. No matter if you are from the north, south, east or west you can feel the emotion through Maalouf s writing. I believe his goal was to link human beings together through emotion and sympathy. Emotion is something all humans can relate to because it is something we all feel and have in our life. While reading about this Jihad I sympathized and felt for the Muslim people fighting the heartless crusaders. I have been taught my whole life that these Muslim people have been the enemies against the Christians. Even to the point where my education has dehumanized the Muslim people. Needless to say, that old view is long gone. Through this story of the crusades I believe Maalouf has set out to break the predisposed dehumanization by telling emotional and relatable stories from the Arab point of view, or should I say Arab Eyes . In order for Maalouf to accomplish this change of beliefs successfully, he had to acquire many credible sources for the readers to trust him. Located in the back of the book, Amin Maalouf has placed a sources section in order for readers to trust his credibility. The two types of sources that can be found throughout The Crusades Through Arab Eyes are primary and secondary sources. Primary sources are works such as; quotes, government documents, letters, and records. While Secondary sources are those such as; books, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
