Young man getting tried – Mr Colton

Parents

Prosecutor

Mid shot of parents, this is to show worried faces and upset with their boy.

Close-up of Mr Colton shows his eyes twitching and his facial expressions, to
try show he’s guilty.

Start with a midshot to see the character in costume, wig and gown, saw the
prosecutor as an important person.

Woman as defence looks worried and doesn’t really say anything,
dominated by the man as prosecutor?

Establishing shot to show the court room scene to show were everything and
everyone is

Started on a high angle slowly zooming in, using 2 shots, this is to show that
something is going to happen and increasingly getting to a high point in the
drama.

Camera is making us look down on him and make us pity him, and shows the
courtroom feel the same.

Point of view of the jury shot how people would look at him, shows him as
quite angry and gets beside himself.

Over the shoulder shot sees other people as blurry and defocused shows us
his confusion and that he’s not aware of anything other than his own
emotions.

Ben Coltor: brought across as tortured, nervous, weak willed/powerless,
vulnerable.

Prosecutor: Mean, bully, patronising, doesn’t want to listen, thinks he knows
best, smug.

Parents: look scared, don’t say anything, ashamed, scared, upset
Diffence: Woman, undermined by men as she stays quiet when the
prosecuter says stuff, doesn’t bite back lets the prosecutor go on and on,
scared/ speechless.

Criminal justice-courtroom scene.

In the TV drama clip, the main character is very harshly being interrogated
and put on the spot. We start off with a midshot of the prosecutor; this is to
show him in costume, wig and gown, this shows him as an important
character and that he is also an authority figure. The prosecutor is shown as
harsh and unjust this is shown through

Criminal justice- Prison extract

Low angle looking up at ben which is meant to show him as powerful but still
seen as weak- goes against convention.

Over shoulder shot showing bens face scared

Close up of bully’s face to make him look scary and horrible

Midshot of officers, makes them look scared of the prisoners as they are stood
uncomfortably watching what’s going on and won’t stop it.

Low angle of officer looking through window as bullies voice was that loud
shows him as high authoritive figure but doesn’t really do anything to stop the
bully.

Close up of officers face shows he’s worried about what went on in case his
boss finds out that he didn’t do anything to sort it out.

The clip starts with a low angle looking up at Ben. This is meant to show him as
a powerful character but he is still shown as weak in the shot. This clearly goes
against convention as this was meant to show him as powerful and superior
but instead he looks uncomfortable and weak. There is an over the shoulder
shot showing Ben’s face looking scared, this shows him as looking weak and
inferior.
