How did you attract / address your
audience?

The tension
What we did Reason why Effect on audience
Used tense music Music is a very powerful tool and
can change the mood of the film
as-well as the emotions of the
audience is used well.
The audience will be emotionally
hooked and have their heart
beating
Slow motion Reducing the speed of footage
draws more attention to the shot.
We wanted to prolong the build
up to the murder scene.
The audience see and feel the
emotions whilst also bringing
more attention to the dubbed
walkie talkie audio.
Low angled shot We wanted to show the power
and authority the policeman
whilst also delaying showing the
body.
Shows the audience how
important the character is and
builds up further suspense and
anticipation to see the body.
Implication of danger

Props
(Gun and bulet)
We wanted to have our policeman
have his gun out to show the
audience this was a very
dangerous moment in the film.
The audience will be trying to
piece together clues and will be
trying to guess what will happen
next.
Audio
(Weapons have been used, shots
fired)
We felt it was important to imply
danger by both mise-en-scene and
audio. The power of hearing but
not seeing was something we
really wanted to exploit.
There is a real increase in tempo
with the audio however the slow
motion makes it very tense and
increases anticipation to see the
murder scene.
Black and white Horror films traditionally use black
and white to signify danger and
death, we wanted to use the B/W
effect to draw attention to the
body and show the
Adds a rustic bit of tension to the
footage and makes the mood feel
very cold and on edge. Without
the colour being drained, it lowers
the feeling for the character and
makes death seem real.
Keeping them guessing
What we did Reason why Effect on audience
Sound bridges We wanted the audience to be thinking right
from the off about the story and what is
happening. We didn’t want to give everything
away at once in order to maintain audience
attention.
The audience have no idea who is
speaking in the first scene and
start to guess who the character
is. The audio reveals some of the
story but leaves a lot unexplained
making the rest of the video
gripping.
Delaying characters
and shots
Transitions, slow mo
The longer the audience is waiting, the more
time they have to think.
They are trying to work out who
some people are and leaves some
characters as slightly mysterious.
Unpredictable story
(Second call out)
We felt it was important to have the
audience guessing about the story but not be
able to predict the plot. We wanted to build
up and keep the audience guessing so had
the murder scene as the second call out.
Shows the audience how
important the character is and
builds up further suspense and
anticipation to see the body.

  • 1. Question 5 How did you attract / address your audience? Ben Trant
  • 2. The tension What we did Reason why Effect on audience Used tense music Music is a very powerful tool and can change the mood of the film as-well as the emotions of the audience is used well. The audience will be emotionally hooked and have their heart beating Slow motion Reducing the speed of footage draws more attention to the shot. We wanted to prolong the build up to the murder scene. The audience see and feel the emotions whilst also bringing more attention to the dubbed walkie talkie audio. Low angled shot We wanted to show the power and authority the policeman whilst also delaying showing the body. Shows the audience how important the character is and builds up further suspense and anticipation to see the body.

Implication of danger What we did Reason why Effect on audience Props (Gun and bulet) We wanted to have our policeman have his gun out to show the audience this was a very dangerous moment in the film. The audience will be trying to piece together clues and will be trying to guess what will happen next. Audio (Weapons have been used, shots fired) We felt it was important to imply danger by both mise-en-scene and audio. The power of hearing but not seeing was something we really wanted to exploit. There is a real increase in tempo with the audio however the slow motion makes it very tense and increases anticipation to see the murder scene. Black and white Horror films traditionally use black and white to signify danger and death, we wanted to use the B/W effect to draw attention to the body and show the Adds a rustic bit of tension to the footage and makes the mood feel very cold and on edge. Without the colour being drained, it lowers the feeling for the character and makes death seem real.
  • 4. Keeping them guessing What we did Reason why Effect on audience Sound bridges We wanted the audience to be thinking right from the off about the story and what is happening. We didn’t want to give everything away at once in order to maintain audience attention. The audience have no idea who is speaking in the first scene and start to guess who the character is. The audio reveals some of the story but leaves a lot unexplained making the rest of the video gripping. Delaying characters and shots Transitions, slow mo The longer the audience is waiting, the more time they have to think. They are trying to work out who some people are and leaves some characters as slightly mysterious. Unpredictable story (Second call out) We felt it was important to have the audience guessing about the story but not be able to predict the plot. We wanted to build up and keep the audience guessing so had the murder scene as the second call out. Shows the audience how important the character is and builds up further suspense and anticipation to see the body.
