Holly- This character represents her gender role individually, as she is the one that is loud and outgoing.
Stereotypically she is seen as the tom-boy of the group. Holly is seen being feminine when she has a
sleepover with her friends. Holly challenges these stereotypes, when she is around people with a strong
persona, she is most challenged by Juno as they both are into extreme sports when she is challenged we
see that the tom-boy side of her starts to come out.
Sam- How this character in The Descent, individually represents her gender role as she is the most
feministic. She is the character who is the most intellectual of the group, she is a practicing doctor who is
medical school. Again this character is most feminine when it comes to physical things in the film. Holly
challenges these stereotypes when she is challenged mentally.
Rebecca- This character in The Descent, individually represents her gender role as she is the girl who is
the most lively and energetic. Rebecca is seen as being a typical woman when she takes part in rock
climbing.
Juno – How this character individually represents her gender role in The Descent. Juno is the character
who I portrayed to us as the Masculine female of the group.
Sarah- This character is represents her gender role in the film she is the women of the group that is
friendly and outgoing, her friends look after her as she has suffered the loss of her daughter. Stereotypes
that can be picked up is that she enjoys physical and sporty things. Sara shows her feminine side the most
when she suffers the loss of her daughter at the start of the film.
Beth- Beth individually represents her gender role as she is the one her cares for her friends in the group.
Stereotypically she is seen as the women who is empowered, we only see her being a typical women
when she is in relaxed situations with her friends. We see Beth challenge these stereotypes when Juno
confronts her in the cave and tells her that she had feelings for her husband, she shows the more
aggressive side to her.
