Overview of the case
 The case is about a Amol, which has been running
CANTEEN since inception of the institute, but after
running it successfully for more than eight year ,he is
expressing his inabilities to run the canteen, because
of decrease in number of customer and rude behavior
of staff .
 Dean has to decide ,should he compromise /neglect
the complain against Amol and give him another
chance to run the canteen or look for some one else
University expectation from Amol
 Price or charge should be reasonable and not be
overbilled(there have been some case of overbilling).
 There should be less waiting time.
 Canteen should be able to serve the all student and
staff , no one should remain empty stomach.
 Manpower should be increased.
Limitation of university
 Geographical location –university is 22 km away from
main city. so very few people from city will be
interested to run canteen inside the university.
 Socio economic condition of people near university is
not good so they are also not able to run canteen inside
the university.
 University has to be closed in summer vacation and
autumn vacation.
Complain against Amol/weakness
 Not able to serve all the student and staff(food is not
sufficient).
 Waiting time is more.(man power is less)
 Overcharged bill.
Things in favor of amol/strength
 Experience of running canteen in same campus for 8
year.
 No major complain against Amols quality of food.
 Some of the teachers are in favor of Amol.
 Amol canteen is well equipped in comparison to other
new canteen.
 He is a good entrepreneur as he grasp the opportunity
and started running canteen even when he did not
have sufficient financial resources.(being a dean of
management department ,he should be in favor of
such good entrepreneur).
Alternative
 Another new person ,who may or may not be better
than amol.
 Another person might be having no experience.
 Canteen managed by staff and faculty member by
themselves, it might lead to decrease in number of
customer (student), as student hesitate to complain
regarding any issue.
Decision criteria
 Vision of any university-The vision of any university is
to impart knowledge to the student and to make the
student self dependent and to make them a good
citizen. In simple way we could say ,the ultimate
motive of institute is ,making their student so much
skilled so that they can earn money.
So dean must be in favor of amol canteen which is the
only source of income for amol.
 Complain-no major complain
 Experience-8 year experience
 Member in favor-some teachers are in favor of amol.
 Infrastructure-canteen is well equipped in
comparision to others canteen.
 Emotional attachment-amol canteen is since inception
of university.
Decision with recommendation
and suggestion
 Amol must be given one more chance to serve the
canteen.
 Staff who have abused amol, a disciplinary action
must be taken against them or they must be warned .
 He must be asked to increase manpower or integrated
POS terminal to be used as front end device to capture
the transaction.
 An App and website should be developed with help of
student so that student and staff should not have to
come to canteen to place an order they can do it
online. And as the order will be ready, message will be
dropped from amol ,that your food is ready.
 There should be a difference of 15 minute in between
lunch of different department.
 In summer vacation he must be allowed to run the
canteen to serve the outsiders or villagers.
 Amol family ,during summer should indulge in tea
related job
