Impact of landuse development on a highland freshwater lake.
Intensive landuse development always be accused as the main factor to cause increase in generation of pollutants, taking the runoff as the transport medium. A study to find the relationship of landuse development and seasonal water quality changes in a highland lake, Ringlet Lake, Cameron Highland, Malaysia proves that as the percentage of watershed cleared area rised, the degree of water quality deterioration tends to increase accordingly. The study found that most of the parameter analyzed in both seasons shows that Ringlet Lake fell into Class III in the Water Quality Index, which need extensive treatment for domestic uses. The high percentage of cleared area as indicated by individual type of landuse leads to produce polluted runoff which ended up into the nearest river network, Bertam and Ringlet River and eventually entered the lake. In highland areas, a basin management of a water body should be more refined and specific in order to address focus of concerns in lake ecosytem health and quality impairment issues.

With increased anthropogenic activities in Nzoia river catchments, land cover has continuously been altered. This scenario has resulted into increased quantity of physical parameters in runoff among them, sediment load and turbidity, during rainy season. This study modelled effects of increased land use changes on runoff and sediment loads. Digital Elevation Model, spatial soil data, sediment loads and meteorological data for the year 2000 to 2012 were the main input into the Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT 2012) model for calibration and validation

This document analyzes water quality of the Mohand Rao river in Doon Valley by measuring levels of calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions at different sampling stations along the river from 2004-2006. The study found that calcium levels were highest during the monsoon season at the first sampling station. Magnesium levels were also higher during monsoon season compared to summer and winter. Overall, both calcium and magnesium ion levels increased from 2004 to 2006 according to water quality analysis results. The water quality index was calculated to determine the status of water quality.

River Nzoia originates from three water towers namely Nandi hills, Cherengany Hills and Mount Elgon. With increased anthropogenic activities in Nzoia river catchments, land cover has continuously been altered. This scenario has resulted into increased quantity of physical parameters in runoff among them, sediment load and turbidity, during rainy season. This study modelled effects of increased land use changes on runoff and sediment loads. Digital Elevation Model, spatial soil data, sediment loads and meteorological data for the year 2000 to 2012 were the main input into the Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT 2012) model for calibration and validation

Kashmir floods 2014
1. Heavy rainfall in Kashmir led to severe flooding in 2014 due to failures in flood monitoring and warnings by agencies. Dredging of rivers made flooding worse by increasing sediment loads.
2. The lack of dams exacerbated flooding, though dams are limited by agreements. Strategically placed dams could help control flooding but political issues have prevented their construction.
3. Increasing development in flood plains and loss of wetlands have reduced flood absorption capacity and made flooding more severe.

This document analyzes water quality of the Mohand Rao river in Doon Valley by measuring levels of calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions at different sampling stations along the river from 2004-2006. The study found that calcium levels were highest during the monsoon season at the first sampling station. Magnesium levels were also higher during monsoon season compared to summer and winter. Overall, both calcium and magnesium ion levels increased from 2004 to 2006 according to water quality analysis results. The water quality index was calculated to determine the status of water quality.

Prolonged pumping can also impact water quality through increased dissolved solids and biological pollutants. Land subsidence has been particularly problematic in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, causing earth fissures and damage to well casings.

There are different types of floods such as coastal flooding from storm surge, river flooding when rivers overflow their banks, flash flooding from heavy rainfall, groundwater flooding, and sewer flooding from overwhelmed drainage systems. The effects of floods include loss of life, property damage, damage to infrastructure like roads and power systems, spread of disease due to contaminated water, disruption to food supply from destroyed crops, and long-term impacts to agricultural land from flooding. Some of the most devastating historic floods include those in China in 1931, Bangladesh in 1972, and Venezuela in 1999.

This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.
