Ameloblastoma is a benign, epithelial odontogenic tumor that arises from odontogenic tissue such as dental lamina or enamel organ. It is most commonly found in the mandible, especially in the molar-ramus region. Radiographically, ameloblastomas often appear multilocular with a soap bubble or honeycomb appearance. Histologically, the two main types are the follicular and plexiform variants. Treatment options range from conservative surgery like curettage to more radical resection with at least 2cm margins. Segmental resection of affected bone followed by reconstruction with plates, wires or grafts is often required to prevent recurrence and facial disfigurement.
