Danticat s Krik? Krak!, Jacques Roumain s Masters of the Dew, and Paule Marshall s
Praisesong for the Widow, tears, rivers, the sea and other forms of water are used to symbolize
change. More specifically, it symbolizes the change between life and death; freedom and
confinement. The three writers use water as an ironic symbol, representing life, liberty, and
their contradictions. In the two novels, Masters of the Dew and Praisesong for the Widow,
water is an evident representation of change between opposite ideas throughout the overall
plots. In Masters of the Dew, Jacques Roumain tells the story of Manuel, a Haitian peasant who
struggles to save his native village, Fonds Rouge, from severe drought and division of the
villagers. Later, Manuel finds a large reservoir of water but only tells the secret to one person.
Towards the end of the story, the village is saved, but only after the divided village agree to work
together and build an irrigation system after Manuel dies. In spite of Manuel s death, the people

The movie Apocalypse Now is about an Army Captain and special operations returned to Saigon

in his own room. One day military officers General Corman and Colonel Lucas approaches him
with an assignment to follow the Nung river into the jungle. He has to find Special Forces
Walter Kurtz and kill him. The Colonel Walter went crazy and now commands his own troops in
Cambodia. Benjamin Willard the army captain joins the navy commanded by Chief and his
crew in Cambodia. Benjamin and his men are now in a Helicopter transported by an Helicopter
and they began there journey up the river in Cambodia. Benjamin Willard reads up on Walter

Input, Feedback, and Output Essay Initially for the Duolingo project I decided to learn Hebrew
because I thought it was more to similar to Arabic than it actually is. After having some trouble
with the keyboard, I chose to do french because typing was more accessible, as opposed to
hebrew where I had to find a Hebrew keyboard. I felt this would impede on my opportunity to
give good feedback on the input aspect of Duolingo, so I chose one with a similar alphabet. Talk
about this in input the letteres sith accent At the moment Duolingo says I am 20 percent fluent
in French. I am not sure how to measure this fully, but it seems like a lot for the basics I have
learned. So far I know two colors, red and orange. I know the formal and plural forms of you. I
also know vocabulary such as dress, boy, girl, woman, man, read, write, eat, rich, and a few more.
The way they introduce words is sometimes effective and sometimes random and not meaningful.
For example, I enjoy that the program uses pictures in the beginning to set up what vocabulary will
be focused on in the lesson. This process of telling me to select the picture that translates from a
wordin English, such as man, helped me later in the lessons so I would not have to guess without
any background. On the other hand, sometimes I would just have to guess. This happened in both
Hebrew and French where a lesson would start with just a prompt telling me to translate a word
