Mariama Ba And Sindiwe Magona
1. Introduction
The critical analysis of gender probabilities in the African context is not a new venture but a
significant discussion to the development of gender, cultural and feminist theorists. This study
investigates the limitations to empowerment Africa women face at the hands of patriarchal
societies, exacerbated by the oppression and subjugation employed by traditional, cultural and
religious norms within two different African countries, that is, Senegal and South Africa. The
research analyzes two novels by important women writers in African literature, Mariama Ba and
Sindiwe Magona. These two dedicated women writers examine the different ways in which
African patriarchy and religion broadly manifests itself regarding the position of women.
Mariama Ba`s novel So Long A Letter (1981) expresses the Islamic and African laws which core
existed in Senegal. As Layiwola (1998: 153) state, So Long a Letter narrates, in a personal
correspondence to another friend, the woes of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, patriarchal perspectives combined with women`s economical dependence on men, make
reaching self actualization a terrifying or challenging experience and if not impossible for most
women. Thus, there is need for an understanding of the experiences that these women undergo in
order to implement useful and effective interventions, which are culture sensitive. Mariama Ba`s
novel So Long A Letter sheds light to the need of African societies to be enabling for women who
suffer at the hands patriarchy, tradition and religion which oppresses and exacerbates gender
stereotypes towards them. However, some African societies as an acknowledgement of Mariama
Ba`s style of writing and thematic concerns are still practicing religious and traditional norms that
thwart the attainment of possibilities of emancipation. Similarly Magona`s

1. Executive Summary
1.1 Purpose of Report
The purpose of this report is to distinguish the type of cost centre of sales branches and to also
compare the old and new budgeting systems at Thoja.
Thoja Company is a decentralised company in which its organisational structure is functionally
based. The company s sales branches are recognised as discretionary cost centres. The company s
president, Harry Hansen has decided to implement a new budgeting system for the sales branches in
order to prevent budget slacks. The reason for implementing the new budgeting system is to attempt
to lower selling expenses and sales volume together.
The new budgeted system at Thoja comprises of fixed and variable costs in order to associate selling
expenses and sales volumes together. With the implementation of the new budgeting system, the
company overcame the partiality and biasing forecasts, however the new system also had some
potential disadvantages as tight budgets may encourage managers to cut costs and as a result, this
will be damaging the company s long term benefits. Furthermore, the sales branches at

Global Warming is False Essay
A Flawed Opinion
Whenever someone thinks of CO2, they think of global warming. They are reminded of Al Gore
and his stance on global warming and they automatically think it is true. He has a lot of evidence
to back up his theory about how global warming exists and that it is the reason animals are going
extinct and also why the climate is changing. Well these facts are wrong and there is evidence to
prove it. Global warming is not real and the Earth might even be in a cooling period. There so
many reasons to blame people for the epidemic of this false global warming. CO2, a naturally
produced gas absorbed by oceans and trees could not be the reason, so what could? Well, nothing
can, none of man s efforts to control the climate will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People assume that just because there are clouds of smog over cities and industrial areas, that it is
because of all the carbon dioxide being released into the air. There is also type of smog called
photochemical smog which was recently discovered in the 1950 s. Aus e tute s The Chemistry
of Photochemical Smog refers to photochemical smog as, a type of air pollution produced when
sunlight acts upon motor vehicle exhaust gases to form harmful substances such as ozone (O3),
aldehydes and peroxyacetylnitrate (PAN). When some see this they think, wow, all the carbon
being released from the burning of fossil fuels in cars can lead to these toxic chemicals. That is
where they are wrong. Aus e tute also sets apart the type of gasses from cars that cause these
chemicals. They explain that, Motor vehicles produce exhaust gases containing oxides of
nitrogen such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitric oxide (NO). Again no carbon was the effect
of a potentially harmful chemical byproduct. Later in his article John Coleman explains some of
the main components of our atmosphere. Most of the air we breathe today is mostly nitrogen. He
says in page 3 of his article that ...in front of my face contains 100,000 molecules of atmosphere.
Of those 100,000, 38 are CO2: 38 out of a hundred thousand. That makes it a trace component...how
can this tiny trace disrupt the entire balance of the climate of Earth. It can not. (3) In the book

Corporal Punishment Analysis
The main point of this study was to examine the association between the use of corporal
punishment against 3 year old children and subsequent aggressive behavior among the kids. The
main question for the study is How is a mother s use of corporal punishment on a 3 year old child
linked to the risk for the child being more aggressive at 5 years of age, even after controlling for the
child s initial level of aggressionat age 3? The hypothesis in this case would be if a motherspanked
their child due to misbehaving then the levels of aggression would increase.
A sample was obtained from the Fragile Families and Child Well Being Study, which is population
based, that examines families from 20 larges United States cities. Two interviews were... Show

All of the examined risk factors and demographic features, except parental relationship status and
income, were significantly associated with CP. Respondents who had a male index child, a high
school education, who were younger, black or Christian were at higher than average risks for
using CP, where as those who were Hispanic, foreign born or Catholic were at lower than average
risk. According to Table 2 in the article, as with CP, higher levels of each of the assessed
maternal parenting risks were associated with risks for higher levels of child aggression. These
findings confirmed that these parenting risk factors might indeed confound the link between
CP and child aggression. In addition, children who were male or whose mothers were younger,
had lower education levels and household s incomes, had no religious preference, or had a just
visiting relationship the father were at risks for higher levels of aggression. According to this
article, I learned that even when all of those maternal parenting risks were controlled for,
mothers more frequent use CP with their 3 year old children increased the odds of those children
being more aggressive at age 5. The finding is consistent with dozens of other studies that showed
a significant statistical link between the use of CP and child aggression. Based on what I read, I
definitely know that CP is not a necessary form of child discipline and these are different, but
effective forms of discipline that exists, so this study is definitely not

Nursing Home Infection
With regards to matrimony, all lawful marriages should be respected regardless if the state abides
with such roles or not. The law went further to highlight the essence of existence of each resident,
emphazing the right of self determination, communication and access to persons and services inside
and outside the facility. In addition, a nursing homefacility must protect and promote the rights of
each resident, including each of the following rights: maintain and establish an infection control
program to prevent the development and transmission of diseases and provide a safe, sanitary and
comfortable environment. Under such infection control program, the facility must investigate,
control, and prevent the spread of infection in the facility; decide the type of isolation procedure to
apply to each individual resident who is suffering from an infectious disease; and maintain a record
of incidents and corrective actions related to each infection. To prevent the spread of infection, the
facility must isolate the resident and prohibit employees with a contagious disease or infected skin
lesions from direct contact with residents or their food. Mandatory implementation of hand hygiene

Compare And Contrast The Person Centred Approach
The Person Centred Approach is based on the theory and philosophy of Dr Carl Rogers. It focuses
on the belief that we are all born with an innate ability for psychological growth if external
circumstances allow us to do so. (British Association for the Person Centred Approach. (2017).
What Is The Person Centred Approach. Available: https://www.bapca.org.uk/. Last accessed 5th
September 2017.) The Person Centred Approach describes the client as an expert on themselves,
and helps the client gain self acceptance. The approach believes that humans can self heal, if the
core conditions are in place. The relationship between the client and the counsellor is the most
important aspect of the therapy succeeding. (Rory Lees Oakes. (2017). Counselling Theories

non directive this type of counselling relationship is based on the core conditions of empathy,
congruence, and unconditional positive regard. By clients being prized and valued, they can learn
to accepted who they are and reconnect with their true selves. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (Ellis

Becoming An Adult- Chronic Stressor

School classes Daily hassle
Becoming an adult Chronic stressor
Deciding on a college Stressful event
Money Situations Chronic stressor
Family Problems Chronic stressor
2. There are many factors that could lead to the cause of a person s stress response. One includes
any life events or change to a person. Any transition that causes you to change and adjust your
life style can cause a great amount of stress, being that you cant go day to day like you may be
use to. Whether it may be a positive or negative, it tends to be stress producing. In my view i m
optimistic about this and try to see the bright side to things that may change my daily routine and
think of it as it happened for the best. Another factor that may cause a persons stress is somehow
being a part of a traumatic event. Events such as sexual assault, violence, or even unexpected loss
of a loved one can stress a person out so much that it changes the view of their life completely and
can cause changes in ways they carry themselves. It can cause symptoms such as nervousness and
symptoms of anxiety which escalate the amount of stress they experience. Daily hassles is
common for everyones stress. Minor things that seem to annoy or upset a person such as traffic
on the way to work or misplacing your shoes causes a hit of stress to go through your body.
Gender usually plays a factor in what causes a person to stress daily. Woman are more likely to
stress about problems that deal with family and friends,

Aztec And Mayan Civilizations
Jared Diamond (2005) defined the collapse of a society as a drastic decrease in human
population numbers and/or in political, economic, or social complexity, over a considerable area,
for an extended period of time (p.3). Civilizations have risen and fallen throughout history,
however, few collapses were as spectacular as the those of the three pre Colombian civilizations of
Mesoamerica: the Inca, the Aztec and the Maya. History has been persistent in blaming the
Spanish Conquest for the loss of the Mesoamerican civilizations. And while the arrival of the
Spanish did cease the development of these cultures in a dramatic and definitive way, in hindsight,
each of these civilizations were lost as a result of endemic warfare that occurred... Show more

return for tribute (Austin Scott 2001, Brumfiel 1983: 273), fostering a dependence on the Triple

conquests beyond the Valley (Brumfiel 1983: 273). By 1502, the Aztec had established a weak
dominion from sea to sea; receiving tribute, and allowing freedom of movement for trade and

Importance Of Sex Education
Sex education provides information on sex, bodily development, sexuality, and aids in the making
of informed decisions in relationships regarding sex. Sex is human nature, yet it is still censored
heavily especially to adolescents who are developing and approaching the stage of puberty. Sex
education is about creating awareness and knowledge for those who are confused or have never
been talked to about human development and reproduction. Sex educationshould not be censored in
schools; rather it should be taught accordingly to help prevent unhealthy sexual relationships and
understand body changes as they age.
First, parents tend to avoid discussing sex and puberty with their children and still wonder why
there are many adolescents who have unprotected sex at a young age. From personal experience,
my parents always tried avoiding questions like How are babies brought to life? and What is a
period? . They would shrug and say I will learn in school. Though, these sensitive topics were
never really covered in school. Of course, we had the basic sexual education classes that talked
about girls getting their periods, sex protection, infections and diseases, but certain information was
still banned. For example, both men and women genital areas were censored. What I do not
understand is why that type of information is censored. It is part of life and is something everybody
will eventually see as they start having intimate relationships. In addition, it is important for both

Descriptive Flight
Hurry up! Get all your things ready! We leave in five minutes! exclaimed mom. It was three o
clock in the morning and we were going on our spring break vacation to sunny Ponte Vedra
Beach, Florida. I remember being very excited and anxious to get on the airplane. I am very
traditional and make sure after all of the dreaded security and airportnonsense that we always go to
the same bagel restaurant. This always got the vacation started for me. After boarding the airplane
and getting up into the maximum altitude, I am always rest assured that in another two hours, we
will be on the ground in Florida1,000 miles away from home. On the plane ride, I find it hard to
keep still but I fell asleep and before I knew it, the pilot was announcing, Flight Attendants, prepare
for landing. This is where I make sure I have all my belongings and begin to watch the what looked
like dots on the ground turn into trees, cars, and buildings. Soon after that, the final bump of the
landing process that is usually felt strongly throughout the plane wasn t present, and people clapped
for such a smooth landing.
Next came my least favorite part, retrieving our bags from the baggage claim. This is always a
stressful part of traveling, but during this particular trip, it was exceptionally annoying. The
conveyor belt broke causing all of the luggage to be stopped up in the slot. This caused tremendous
crowding and aggravation for travelers in the Jacksonville International Airport.

The Autonomic Nervous System
Sleep is necessary for basic health and survival. It plays a large role in an individual s mental,
emotional, and physiological welfare and functioning. After years of sleep research focusing on
sleep wake cycles, evidence points to the conclusion that sleep deprivation has detrimental
consequences, not only on rodents, but humans as well (Cheng et al., 2015). In the past century, the
average amount of time that adults sleep has decreased significantly. Consequently, sleep problems
have become an epidemic, taking their toll on the health of adult populations in numerous ways.
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) conducted a Gallup Poll in March 2002 in which American
lifestyles, sleep habits, and sleep problems were surveyed. The results... Show more content on

Monitoring HRV can provide information about the function of the autonomic nervous system.
HRV is a non invasive index of the neural control of the heart (Acharya, Sing, Ping Chua, 2004).
Although it is difficult to establish a particular standard normal heart rate for a given individual,
most individuals have a typical range from 60 to 100 beats per minute (Fox et al., 2007).
However, the interval between each heartbeat constantly varies. High frequency variability in
RR reflects parasympathetic activation, while a slower variability in RR reflects a combination
of both parasympathetic and sympathetic modulation along with non autonomic factors. When
interpreting HRV data, there are several components in the power spectrum that can have
fluctuating ranges. A power spectrum is a plot of the portion of a signal s power or energy per
unit time, falling within given frequency bands. The three major bands of the power spectrum in
HRV are high frequency (HF), low frequency (LF), and very low frequency (VLF). A HF peak
typically ranges between 0.15 Hz to 0.4 Hz, while a LF peak ranges from 0.06 to 0.15 Hz. A VLF
peak is below .05 Hz (Kamath Fallen, 1993). The LF is associated with blood pressure control and
reflects sympathetic activity. The HF is correlated with respiratory sinus arrhythmia and reflects
parasympathetic activity

Pros And Cons Of Gentrification
GEO 793 BRIEF
INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Wendy Burton, JOR 611
TO: Toronto City Council
FROM: Nusratara BEGAM (500383654)
NEIGHBORHOOD: Liberty Village
RECOMMENDATION: For Liberty Village, I, hereby, make the suggestion for a closer
examination of gentrification. Gentrification constitutes transformation of neighbourhood social
spaces in ways that remodel a place in line with the needs as well as desires of new residents and
capital investors (Kern, 2016).
DISCUSSION: Presently, Liberty Village is undergoing a transformation in order to implement a
creative class employment center amidst a historical industrial buildings theme; hence, adorning a
distinct character (Catungal et al., 2009). The area has been a site for one of the oldest European
settlements in Toronto (Wieditz, 2007). Businesses in Liberty Village can utilize the advantage of
being located close to downtown while simultaneously possessing the advantage of being in a
community, which differs from a standard office tower within the downtown core (Catungal et al.,
2009). Although Liberty Village is in close proximity to downtown, it is a disparate entity and, in
fact, separate; elements that enhance its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

City as both a socio spatial process that is highly unsustainable and socially unjust. Furthermore, we

facilitated development in Toronto s inner city (and beyond), but as an integral part of Toronto s
planning as well as policy

Raiders Of The Lost Ark Film Analysis Essay
Raiders of the Lost Ark The film Raiders of the Lost Ark was directed by Steven Spielberg in 1981.
It is the first film in a series of films that follow the adventures of archaeologist and professor
Indiana Jones. Some proclaim the Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best action/adventure
movies of all time. Since its release, the film has grossed $389 million worldwide and is ranked #40
on the top rated movies list on IMDB.
Mise en Scene:
Raiders of the lost Ark takes place in 1936. When comes down to the settings, lighting, music,
costumes and the way everyone acts in this film, everything works together to get an overall feel
that the time really is the 1936. The costumes look like outfits people would really wear during that
time and the music sounds right for that era.
In the very beginning of the film, viewers see Indiana Jones walking through the jungle with some
men. Although his face is not shown for the first couple of minutes you can tell that the man in
the fedora is an important character. It s never specifically mentioned that it is a jungle but there
are animal noises and plants in the background. Also, the lighting looks natural almost as if the
sun is shining through a thick canopy of trees. All the men look a little tired and their faces and
clothes look dirty. From the way the music sounds and the way they all look you can tell that they
are on some kind of quest, searching for something for what seems like a while.

How Did The Chinese Alchemists Use Gunpowder
During the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the Chinese developed gunpowder, which made weapons
possible. The creators of this powerful substance were alchemists, who practiced alchemy. Chinese
alchemists had been experimenting with saltpeter because they believed that it would extended

first weapon the Chinese made with gunpowder was the flamethrower, which used a mixture of
gunpowder and oil. Some other weapons the Chinese created with gunpowder were artillery shell,
which were launched by the catapult. Also, smaller bombs called grenades were thrown by hand.

The first magnets were pieces of lodestone. The Chinese later replaced lodestone with the iron

By the Song dynasty, the use of the magnetic compass had grown to include the sea voyages.
This enabled sailors to navigate through the sea without any landmark or point in the sky to steer

Ofdm Transmission By Stephen Kiambi
OFDM transmission
Author: Stephen Kiambi
Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Nairobi
OFDM or Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing is a transmission scheme that is widely
used in broadcast and wireless communication technologies. Some of the applications employing
OFDM include Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB), Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB
T2), Wireless LAN, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and 4G Long
Term Evolution (LTE) radio technologies [1, 2]. Two of the main reasons to use OFDM are to
increase date rates and robustness against frequency selective fading. In the rest of this document an
overview of OFDM transmission theory is given.
1 Basic principles of OFDM
OFDM is a multicarrier transmission technique that splits the total available bandwidth into many
narrowband sub channels at equidistant frequencies. The sub channel spectra overlap each other
but the subcarrier signals are still orthogonal. The single high rate data stream is subdivided into
many low rate data streams for the sub channels. Each sub channel is modulated individually and all
the sub channels are transmitted simultaneously in a superimposed and parallel form.
An OFDM transmit signal therefore consists of adjacent orthogonal subcarriers spaced by the
frequency distance on the frequency axis. All subcarrier signals are mutually orthogonal within the
symbol duration, , if the th unmodulated subcarrier signal is described

As the New York Herald in Paris remarked, It is difficult to fly. It is easy to say, We have flown,
two things fueled skepticism in the face of scientific achievement: a disbelief in technological
capabilities, and a lack of demonstrable results. The Apollo missions extinguished both
concerns. In terms of technology, hoax believers frequently mention the Soviets constant lead in
the Space Race. They achieved many firsts, but were never able to send men to the moon; it
seems logical, then, that this feat must have been beyond the Americans as well. But in reality,
the United States was never far behind. In fact, by 1965, it overtook its rival, reaching many
milestones that were key to manned lunar missions (e.g. space rendezvous). NASA, thus, was
in a good position to travel to the moon and to the moon it traveled. As noted in Lunar Rocks and
Soils from Apollo Missions, it even brought back some souvenirs, in the form of 842 pounds of
moon rocks. These samples possess unique properties unseen in any Earth counterparts, and to
forge these rocks in such large volumes would have been impossible. Rocks aside, there are other
reasons to believe in the moon landings as well: reflectors left on the lunar surface, or landing site
imagery, to name a few. Surely, the validity of the landings lacks no evidence in support. Then
again, the vast majority of us have never been in space, on the moon,

results. [12] Limitations in previous designs have rarely been investigated, but surface
modifications have been extensively in an attempt to increase the rate of bone healing and thereby
allowing the early loading of dental implants. [14] The article claims there to be a lack of
hierarchical approach that has led to difficulties in isolating the topographic and chemical
parameters that provide the optimum bone healing around the dental implants. [12] It further
recognized literature inconsistencies in respect to the mechanistic effect of surface modifications in
short term and long term loading of implants. It calls for more accurate clinical studies to be
performed that consider different implant surfaces. The authors further put clinicians in charge of
interpreting in vitro, laboratory in vivo, and clinical study data for the effectiveness of new and
improved materials. [12] Despite a well formed and compelling argument, the authors fail to provide
concrete data to support

Abolish The Canadian Senate
The Canadian Senate has been a long standing problematic section of the Canadian government
and since its creation in 1867 and has been scrutinized for its effectiveness and purpose. In recent
years, concerns have been raised and approaches have been suggested into reforming the Senate.
Those in favour of taking drastic measures to reform or even abolish the Senateagree that the Senate
is not functioning and not a trustworthy part of Canadian government. However, there are those
who view that the Senate can still be saved say it has a purpose in the Canadian government since it
serves a vital function in passing Canadian legislature. Nonetheless, maintaining a government body
that is non functional needs to be addressed and revised and gone... Show more content on

For the maintenance of the Senate there are four proposed approaches; minor renovation,
deferred abolition, housekeeping, and maintenance of the Senate. Firstly, minor renovations
would cause only small changes that would not make the Senate go through the amending
formula. These small changes would enforce term limits and allow for voters to select nominees
for the upper chamber (Brodie 2013). Although not direct elections this will make the Senate
more democratic since Canadians will be allowed to have some say in plausible Senators rather
than them being solely appointed by the Prime Minister. Deferred abolition (or demolition)
would postpone any changes until the federal election in 2025. This approach would put a gun to
the head of the status quo: you have ten years to achieve reform...or it s lights out in the Red
Chamber (Morton 2013). By having pressure put on the Senate the hope is to start change since
there is a time limit on what can be done. There has always been talk about what needs to be
changed but by putting a time limit on change will encourage the Senate to start to take the steps it
needs to be effective. Another approach is the approach of housekeeping, which consists of change
being started from within the Senate itself. Housekeeping calls for more transparency and for the
Senate to be held accountable (Black 2013). For the

When it comes to crime scene investigation, the most visually spectacular aspect is likely blood

Essay about Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol
Never before have I encountered more intriguing works of art than those done by
Andy Warhol. I have been curious about his life ever since I saw his work in
Milwaukee. I saw his famous work of the Campbell s Soup Can. By viewing this, one can tell he is
not your average artist. I m sure his life is full of interesting events that shaped him into who he
was. As an artist myself, I would like to get to know the background of his life. I may then be
able to appreciate his styles and understand why and how his works were created. His life is as
interesting as his artistic masterpieces. Andrew Warhola (his original name) was born one of three

The rest of his short life was spent visiting with celebrities and keeping up with the world s times.
He tried to understand how the rest of the world saw things, but just never got there. Sadly, Warhol
died of a heart failure on March 9, 1987, still wearing his famous blond hair wig. Andy s diaries are
not actual written records of his day to day accounts, but they are audio recordings of his phone
conversations to Pat Hackett every Monday through
Friday (from Wednesday, November 24, 1976 to Tuesday, February 17, 1987, just weeks before
his death). Warhol originally intended these daily records to be documentation of his minor
quot;business quot; expenses. He was just audited and felt the need to be extra careful. quot;In a
word it was a diary. But whatever its broader objective, its narrow one, to satisfy tax auditors,
was always on my mind quot; (Warhol xvi). Later on, he felt the diaries were a great way to
explain his everyday occurrences for more than a decade of his life. This view of his life from
his eyes is probably the most balanced view ever given. He may have changed since the 60 s, but
it is still the truest representation of Andy, himself. He never expressed the key happenings of his
life; it s as if we, the readers, already knew them. He just usually mentions the quick everyday type
things such as a cab ride to uptown New York. The first major influence on Andy
Warhol s life was the stepping stone of his artistic career, his enrollment in

The Law Of Reflection And Snell s Law
We see optics in all types of instruments. Microscopes magnify extremely tiny objects so that they
are visible. Telescopes concentrate light from very distant objects to allow us to see extremely far
away. Glasses allow people with poor vison to see clearly. Some instruments use both lenses and
mirrors making them very powerful, but also complicated.
Optics is the study of how light interacts with other objects. In geometric optics light is assumed
to travel in a straight line except where it meets barriers. Depending on the material of the barrier
the light is either reflected (mirrors) or refracted (lenses). The angle at which this occurs is
determined by two laws, the law of reflection and Snell s law.

Stand And Deliver Movie Citation
Stand and Deliver: Movie about an Educational Setting
In order to complete this assignment, I decided to focus on the educational setting of the film
Stand and Deliver . Stand and Deliver took place in the year 1987 and was focused on
demonstrating the life challenges that students faced in the city of East Los Angeles California.
This movie is based on the true story of a mathematics teacher who motivated high school students
at Garfield High School to learn about calculus. Additionally, this filmwill identify the context,
norms, values, language, gender roles and the social structures of the movie.
In this film, Garfield high school is located in a poor neighborhood in East Los Angeles. The
movie portrayed this neighborhood as a location that was surrounded by violence, fights, and
crimes. Every night it was very common for the residents living in this neighborhood to witness
fights among gang members, and hear shootings and ambulance sirens. The majority of people who

the basic themes of the book. Hosseini also states Words were secret doorways and I held all the

Career Map Analysis
A career map encompasses detailed information that is thoroughly examined in order to
implement a strategy to achieve goals for a successful career. The information within a career
map includes imperative skills that have or have not been acquired that are representative of a
specific career. In addition, career maps also allow you to question what you may want in terms
of a career and the general goals needed to achieve them. Career maps help to solidify or build
these questions by outlining universal and unique skills, experiences, and personal
characteristics. Career maps are in essence the entire vision to your prospective career and

of a career map is to allow you to organize your strengths and weaknesses associated to a specific
career. In doing so, you are essentially outlining the needed information that a career may entail

you are staying on plan with a path you have created for yourself and improving the chances of

Education was not that important back in 1785, but in the midВ1960 s education started booming.

The rise of technology in 2000 is very relevant to because we use technology almost every day
in school nowadays. Upon the rise of technology education has changed rapidly, and the
requirement that we have to do standardized testing has also changed the education system in
America.
Education is being remodeled and fixed, because it has many problems such as
technology not working, the testing students take, and the content teachers are teaching their
students. In the 21st century students in schools now have to take standardized testing, this is
also called highВstakes testing because of the high stakes that the student is going through, like
whether or not you will skip a class. These tests can sometimes put you in a class too hard or too

Myoglobin In Aquatic Mammals
Unlike a terrestrial habitat, an aquatic habitat is surrounded by dense water that only contains a low
concentration of dissolved oxygen. This low concentration of oxygen varies in other aquatic
habitats. For example, pools have less oxygen content than riffles of streams. Even though both
terrestrial and aquatic mammals share the same gas exchange system aquatic mammals have well
adapted to the aquatic habitat so survive. Aquatic mammals possess a protein called myoglobin,
which is a protein that stores oxygenand is found in the skeletal muscles . When diving mammals
such as dolphins dive, oxygen to the important organs is limited. The myoglobin present in aquatic

This means that they are not limited to living only in an aquatic habitat or a terrestrial habitat
unlike fish. Fish can only live in an aquatic habitat and have no special adaptations to live in a
terrestrial habitat. A fish s gas exchange system requires water to support the fish s filaments and
to hold the lamellae apart so that surface area can be kept large. If a fish were to live in a
terrestrial habitat they would be permanently exposed to air. This air would then make the
filaments and the lamellae stick together which would then greatly decrease the surface area to
volume ratio. As a result, the efficiency of gases diffusing would reduce. Fish s gills would
desiccate without the water to keep them moist so the respiratory gases would not be able to
dissolve so it can diffuse into the blood. However, due to the process of counter current flow, fish
can take in more of the oxygen that is in water. This leads to a greatly efficient gas exchange.
Mammals can avoid desiccation of their gas exchange system as the air they breathe in is warmed
and moistened by the nasal passages as it enters the nostrils and the mouth. This allows the
mammals to live in terrestrial or aquatic

Guantanamo Bay and Human Rights Violations by the United...
IntroductionGuantanamo Bay, Cuba is originally a naval base that was once used to house
detention facilities for Haitian and Cuban refugees fleeing to the United States. It was also used as
a refueling station for Navy ships. It was then converted into a high level detention facility to

One of many things that will always be remembered is when Tillman said that he wasn t
particularly the best player on the team but, he always had a big heart. Something like that will
always be remembered, every person who struggles on a team should know something like this.
Something else showing Tillman s strong work ethic is when he made a commitment he always
followed through. For example, when Tillman said he was going to run that marathon he made a
commitment and followed through with that commitment. One last piece of evidence, the word
passion always meant something to to Pat Tillman. He stated that he wanted to be remembered
by his passion. And his passion of playing football kept him playing and trying, another time is
when the passion to become a soldier came upon him. His passion to serve his country was a big
thing to him. Pat Tillman was always a person with a strong work ethic and he will always be

In The Pursuit of Happiness
Individuals try to find happiness, but like water or air, it is hard to clench in your hands. As
defined in Merriam Webster (2014), happiness is a state of well being and contentment. However,
happiness is hard to achieve, but it can be as simple as being contented, doing what you love, and
living who you really are. Furthermore, everyone asks how one would know that they have it
already.
Happiness is hard to achieve. Some people follow several steps in order to get what they want.
People have unlimited wants. However, not all the things they want can give them happiness. Like
what Matthie Ricard (2007) said Happiness is a state of inner fulfillment, not the gratification of
inexhaustible desires for outward things. (p. 31) Happiness is ... Show more content on

One should be the captain of their own ship in order to be happy. Despite the fact that happiness
seems unattainable, it can be as simple as being contented. It is something that comes from people s
action. People should do what they need to. They make things happen and pursue new
understandings. They need to have a sense of purpose. Without purpose, everything is lost. If
people have a sense of purpose in their life, they can easily fulfill their satisfactions. Satisfying
their wants would make them happy. However, being happy is not all about satisfying people s
wants. It is also about being contented with what they have. The growth of happiness is directly
proportional to acceptance and inversely to expectations (Fox, 2007). Acceptance of the things
around a person, whether it is good or bad, can make one truly happy. In everything people do,
one must follow where their heart is. From the simplest things to the hardest ones, people must
follow their heart. In making their decisions and choosing their options, it is best to consult their
own feelings. Following one s heart would really make one happy. It would also avoid regrets in
the end. Since they chose what they really love, they would freely accept whatever the result is.
Happiness is doing what you love. Moreover, people must love what they need to do. They cannot
always do what they only want to do. If people keep

  • 2. Mariama Ba And Sindiwe Magona 1. Introduction The critical analysis of gender probabilities in the African context is not a new venture but a significant discussion to the development of gender, cultural and feminist theorists. This study investigates the limitations to empowerment Africa women face at the hands of patriarchal societies, exacerbated by the oppression and subjugation employed by traditional, cultural and religious norms within two different African countries, that is, Senegal and South Africa. The research analyzes two novels by important women writers in African literature, Mariama Ba and Sindiwe Magona. These two dedicated women writers examine the different ways in which African patriarchy and religion broadly manifests itself regarding the position of women. Mariama Ba`s novel So Long A Letter (1981) expresses the Islamic and African laws which core existed in Senegal. As Layiwola (1998: 153) state, So Long a Letter narrates, in a personal correspondence to another friend, the woes of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, there is need for an understanding of the experiences that these women undergo in order to implement useful and effective interventions, which are culture sensitive. Mariama Ba`s novel So Long A Letter sheds light to the need of African societies to be enabling for women who suffer at the hands patriarchy, tradition and religion which oppresses and exacerbates gender stereotypes towards them. However, some African societies as an acknowledgement of Mariama Ba`s style of writing and thematic concerns are still practicing religious and traditional norms that thwart the attainment of possibilities of emancipation. Executive Summary 1.1 Purpose of Report The purpose of this report is to distinguish the type of cost centre of sales branches and to also compare the old and new budgeting systems at Thoja. Thoja Company is a decentralised company in which its organisational structure is functionally based. The company s sales branches are recognised as discretionary cost centres. The company s president, Harry Hansen has decided to implement a new budgeting system for the sales branches in order to prevent budget slacks. The reason for implementing the new budgeting system is to attempt to lower selling expenses and sales volume together. The new budgeted system at Thoja comprises of fixed and variable costs in order to associate selling expenses and sales volumes together. With the implementation of the new budgeting system, the company overcame the partiality and biasing forecasts, however the new system also had some potential disadvantages as tight budgets may encourage managers to cut costs and as a result, this will be damaging the company s long term benefits. They are reminded of Al Gore and his stance on global warming and they automatically think it is true. He has a lot of evidence to back up his theory about how global warming exists and that it is the reason animals are going extinct and also why the climate is changing. Well these facts are wrong and there is evidence to prove it. Global warming is not real and the Earth might even be in a cooling period. There so many reasons to blame people for the epidemic of this false global warming. CO2, a naturally produced gas absorbed by oceans and trees could not be the reason, so what could? Well, nothing can, none of man s efforts to control the climate will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People assume that just because there are clouds of smog over cities and industrial areas, that it is because of all the carbon dioxide being released into the air. There is also type of smog called photochemical smog which was recently discovered in the 1950 s. Aus e tute s The Chemistry of Photochemical Smog refers to photochemical smog as, a type of air pollution produced when sunlight acts upon motor vehicle exhaust gases to form harmful substances such as ozone (O3), aldehydes and peroxyacetylnitrate (PAN). When some see this they think, wow, all the carbon being released from the burning of fossil fuels in cars can lead to these toxic chemicals. That is where they are wrong. Aus e tute also sets apart the type of gasses from cars that cause these chemicals. They explain that, Motor vehicles produce exhaust gases containing oxides of nitrogen such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitric oxide (NO). Again no carbon was the effect of a potentially harmful chemical byproduct. Later in his article John Coleman explains some of the main components of our atmosphere. Most of the air we breathe today is mostly nitrogen. He says in page 3 of his article that ...in front of my face contains 100,000 molecules of atmosphere. Of those 100,000, 38 are CO2: 38 out of a hundred thousand. That makes it a trace component...how can this tiny trace disrupt the entire balance of the climate of Earth. It can not. Corporal Punishment Analysis The main point of this study was to examine the association between the use of corporal punishment against 3 year old children and subsequent aggressive behavior among the kids. The main question for the study is How is a mother s use of corporal punishment on a 3 year old child linked to the risk for the child being more aggressive at 5 years of age, even after controlling for the child s initial level of aggressionat age 3? The hypothesis in this case would be if a motherspanked their child due to misbehaving then the levels of aggression would increase. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the examined risk factors and demographic features, except parental relationship status and income, were significantly associated with CP. Respondents who had a male index child, a high school education, who were younger, black or Christian were at higher than average risks for using CP, where as those who were Hispanic, foreign born or Catholic were at lower than average risk. According to Table 2 in the article, as with CP, higher levels of each of the assessed maternal parenting risks were associated with risks for higher levels of child aggression. These findings confirmed that these parenting risk factors might indeed confound the link between CP and child aggression. In addition, children who were male or whose mothers were younger, had lower education levels and household s incomes, had no religious preference, or had a just visiting relationship the father were at risks for higher levels of aggression. According to this article, I learned that even when all of those maternal parenting risks were controlled for, mothers more frequent use CP with their 3 year old children increased the odds of those children being more aggressive at age 5. The finding is consistent with dozens of other studies that showed a significant statistical link between the use of CP and child aggression. Based on what I read, I definitely know that CP is not a necessary form of child discipline and these are different, but effective forms of discipline that exists, so this study is definitely not ... It focuses on the belief that we are all born with an innate ability for psychological growth if external circumstances allow us to do so. (British Association for the Person Centred Approach. (2017). What Is The Person Centred Approach. Available: https://www.bapca.org.uk/. Last accessed 5th September 2017.) The Person Centred Approach describes the client as an expert on themselves, and helps the client gain self acceptance. The approach believes that humans can self heal, if the core conditions are in place. The relationship between the client and the counsellor is the most important aspect of the therapy succeeding. School classes Daily hassle Becoming an adult Chronic stressor Deciding on a college Stressful event Money Situations Chronic stressor Family Problems Chronic stressor 2. There are many factors that could lead to the cause of a person s stress response. One includes any life events or change to a person. Any transition that causes you to change and adjust your life style can cause a great amount of stress, being that you cant go day to day like you may be use to. Whether it may be a positive or negative, it tends to be stress producing. In my view i m optimistic about this and try to see the bright side to things that may change my daily routine and think of it as it happened for the best. Another factor that may cause a persons stress is somehow being a part of a traumatic event. Events such as sexual assault, violence, or even unexpected loss of a loved one can stress a person out so much that it changes the view of their life completely and can cause changes in ways they carry themselves. History has been persistent in blaming the Spanish Conquest for the loss of the Mesoamerican civilizations. Sex is human nature, yet it is still censored heavily especially to adolescents who are developing and approaching the stage of puberty. Sex education is about creating awareness and knowledge for those who are confused or have never been talked to about human development and reproduction. Sex educationshould not be censored in schools; rather it should be taught accordingly to help prevent unhealthy sexual relationships and understand body changes as they age. First, parents tend to avoid discussing sex and puberty with their children and still wonder why there are many adolescents who have unprotected sex at a young age. From personal experience, my parents always tried avoiding questions like How are babies brought to life? and What is a period? . They would shrug and say I will learn in school. Though, these sensitive topics were never really covered in school. Of course, we had the basic sexual education classes that talked about girls getting their periods, sex protection, infections and diseases, but certain information was still banned. For example, both men and women genital areas were censored. What I do not understand is why that type of information is censored. It is part of life and is something everybody will eventually see as they start having intimate relationships. In addition, it is important for both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soon after that, the final bump of the landing process that is usually felt strongly throughout the plane wasn t present, and people clapped for such a smooth landing. Next came my least favorite part, retrieving our bags from the baggage claim. This is always a stressful part of traveling, but during this particular trip, it was exceptionally annoying. The conveyor belt broke causing all of the luggage to be stopped up in the slot. This caused tremendous crowding and aggravation for travelers in the Jacksonville International Airport. ... After years of sleep research focusing on sleep wake cycles, evidence points to the conclusion that sleep deprivation has detrimental consequences, not only on rodents, but humans as well (Cheng et al., 2015). In the past century, the average amount of time that adults sleep has decreased significantly. Consequently, sleep problems have become an epidemic, taking their toll on the health of adult populations in numerous ways. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monitoring HRV can provide information about the function of the autonomic nervous system. HRV is a non invasive index of the neural control of the heart (Acharya, Sing, Ping Chua, 2004). Although it is difficult to establish a particular standard normal heart rate for a given individual, most individuals have a typical range from 60 to 100 beats per minute (Fox et al., 2007). However, the interval between each heartbeat constantly varies. High frequency variability in RR reflects parasympathetic activation, while a slower variability in RR reflects a combination of both parasympathetic and sympathetic modulation along with non autonomic factors. When interpreting HRV data, there are several components in the power spectrum that can have fluctuating ranges. A power spectrum is a plot of the portion of a signal s power or energy per unit time, falling within given frequency bands. The three major bands of the power spectrum in HRV are high frequency (HF), low frequency (LF), and very low frequency (VLF). A HF peak typically ranges between 0.15 Hz to 0.4 Hz, while a LF peak ranges from 0.06 to 0.15 Hz. A VLF peak is below .05 Hz (Kamath Fallen, 1993). The LF is associated with blood pressure control and reflects sympathetic activity. The HF is correlated with respiratory sinus arrhythmia and reflects parasympathetic activity ... Gentrification constitutes transformation of neighbourhood social spaces in ways that remodel a place in line with the needs as well as desires of new residents and capital investors (Kern, 2016). DISCUSSION: Presently, Liberty Village is undergoing a transformation in order to implement a creative class employment center amidst a historical industrial buildings theme; hence, adorning a distinct character (Catungal et al., 2009). The area has been a site for one of the oldest European settlements in Toronto (Wieditz, 2007). It is the first film in a series of films that follow the adventures of archaeologist and professor Indiana Jones. Some proclaim the Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best action/adventure movies of all time. Since its release, the film has grossed $389 million worldwide and is ranked #40 on the top rated movies list on IMDB. Mise en Scene: Raiders of the lost Ark takes place in 1936. When comes down to the settings, lighting, music, costumes and the way everyone acts in this film, everything works together to get an overall feel that the time really is the 1936. The costumes look like outfits people would really wear during that time and the music sounds right for that era. In the very beginning of the film, viewers see Indiana Jones walking through the jungle with some men. Although his face is not shown for the first couple of minutes you can tell that the man in the fedora is an important character. It s never specifically mentioned that it is a jungle but there are animal noises and plants in the background. Also, the lighting looks natural almost as if the sun is shining through a thick canopy of trees. All the men look a little tired and their faces and clothes look dirty. From the way the music sounds and the way they all look you can tell that they are on some kind of quest, searching for something for what seems like a while. One of the best scenes in the ... • 17. Ofdm Transmission By Stephen Kiambi OFDM transmission Author: Stephen Kiambi Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Nairobi OFDM or Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing is a transmission scheme that is widely used in broadcast and wireless communication technologies. Some of the applications employing OFDM include Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB), Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB T2), Wireless LAN, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio technologies [1, 2]. Two of the main reasons to use OFDM are to increase date rates and robustness against frequency selective fading. In the rest of this document an overview of OFDM transmission theory is given. 1 Basic principles of OFDM OFDM is a multicarrier transmission technique that splits the total available bandwidth into many narrowband sub channels at equidistant frequencies. The sub channel spectra overlap each other but the subcarrier signals are still orthogonal. The single high rate data stream is subdivided into many low rate data streams for the sub channels. Each sub channel is modulated individually and all the sub channels are transmitted simultaneously in a superimposed and parallel form. An OFDM transmit signal therefore consists of adjacent orthogonal subcarriers spaced by the frequency distance on the frequency axis. All subcarrier signals are mutually orthogonal within the symbol duration, , if the th unmodulated subcarrier signal is described ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Apollo missions extinguished both concerns. In terms of technology, hoax believers frequently mention the Soviets constant lead in the Space Race. They achieved many firsts, but were never able to send men to the moon; it seems logical, then, that this feat must have been beyond the Americans as well. But in reality, the United States was never far behind. In fact, by 1965, it overtook its rival, reaching many milestones that were key to manned lunar missions (e.g. space rendezvous). NASA, thus, was in a good position to travel to the moon and to the moon it traveled. As noted in Lunar Rocks and Soils from Apollo Missions, it even brought back some souvenirs, in the form of 842 pounds of moon rocks. These samples possess unique properties unseen in any Earth counterparts, and to forge these rocks in such large volumes would have been impossible. For the maintenance of the Senate there are four proposed approaches; minor renovation, deferred abolition, housekeeping, and maintenance of the Senate. Firstly, minor renovations would cause only small changes that would not make the Senate go through the amending formula. These small changes would enforce term limits and allow for voters to select nominees for the upper chamber (Brodie 2013). Although not direct elections this will make the Senate more democratic since Canadians will be allowed to have some say in plausible Senators rather than them being solely appointed by the Prime Minister. Deferred abolition (or demolition) would postpone any changes until the federal election in 2025. This approach would put a gun to the head of the status quo: you have ten years to achieve reform...or it s lights out in the Red Chamber (Morton 2013). The 401(k) plan is accessible to full time employees who work at least 30 hours within a work week. An employee must work for the organization for at least 12months and be at least 21 or older to qualify for this plan (Apollo Group, 2013). The company s pension plan is currently done through open enrollment though the process may change in the near future to automatic enrollment. The idea of doing an automatic enrollment will automatically enroll each and every employee in that particular retirement plan unless the employee chooses not to after the fact. The employee would have the option to opt out at any point within a particular deadline which is 90 days. With the current open enrollment plan, Riordan employees have the choice to choose just how much of his or her paycheck will contribute to the plan and the company will equal that amount or up to a particular dollar amount. The benefit in enrolling into the 401(k) plan is the employee s contribution is deducted before state and federal withholdings (Apollo Group, Inc., 2013). In order to involve workers and to promote worker engagement toward the 401(k) savings strategy, the company has established an interaction plan. Arthur: The Ripple of American Politics For my presentation, I would like to present a president not known much in this time and age but one who, in 1880, made drastic changes to the American government. This man was Chester A. Arthur. The following material is what I have learned in American Government for only but one year, I have still learned more than what I already knew at the beginning of my high school career. I have gained a better understanding of the American political system as well as the history of the system. The second is that I can now put everyday events that happen and see how they correlate to the political system which affects everyday life. The last fundamental that I learned was how to do research. As I looked... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the highlights of his term as president were the signing of the Pendleton Civil Service Act which prohibited the firing of workers based on political reasons and political donations from the employees. This act also allowed specific federal government jobs be given based on how well an employee does instead of political connections. Another event was his almost successful attempt to lower the tariffs. He vetoed the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, only to have the veto overrode by Congress. Militarily he wanted to have the modernization of the U.S. Navy (. In conclusion, I applied what I have learned from American Government to give an informative view into a president who had a somewhat important role in the American political system 136 years ago which still applies to today. It is very interesting to talk about because of how much it has changed from the past to the present. Education first was required for children in America in 1785 when the Land Ordinance and Northwest Ordinance were created, they stated that the nation s responsibility was to have an education system. Education was not that important back in 1785, but in the midВ1960 s education started booming. The rise of technology in 2000 is very relevant to because we use technology almost every day in school nowadays. Upon the rise of technology education has changed rapidly, and the requirement that we have to do standardized testing has also changed the education system in America. Education is being remodeled and fixed, because it has many problems such as technology not working, the testing students take, and the content teachers are teaching their students. In the 21st century students in schools now have to take standardized testing, this is also called highВstakes testing because of the high stakes that the student is going through, like whether or not you will skip a class. These tests can sometimes put you in a class too hard or too easy for the student because the tests a student might take are long and tiring and make students want to guess and not do their best so they can get it over with. Another common problem with education is the Common Core Standards. These standards that teachers teach to their students. These standards are a problem because states with higher standards that adopt the common

This low concentration of oxygen varies in other aquatic habitats. For example, pools have less oxygen content than riffles of streams. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that they are not limited to living only in an aquatic habitat or a terrestrial habitat unlike fish. Fish can only live in an aquatic habitat and have no special adaptations to live in a terrestrial habitat. A fish s gas exchange system requires water to support the fish s filaments and to hold the lamellae apart so that surface area can be kept large. If a fish were to live in a terrestrial habitat they would be permanently exposed to air. This air would then make the filaments and the lamellae stick together which would then greatly decrease the surface area to volume ratio. As a result, the efficiency of gases diffusing would reduce. Fish s gills would desiccate without the water to keep them moist so the respiratory gases would not be able to dissolve so it can diffuse into the blood. However, due to the process of counter current flow, fish can take in more of the oxygen that is in water. This leads to a greatly efficient gas exchange. Mammals can avoid desiccation of their gas exchange system as the air they breathe in is warmed and moistened by the nasal passages as it enters the nostrils and the mouth. This allows the mammals to live in terrestrial or aquatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

IntroductionGuantanamo Bay, Cuba is originally a naval base that was once used to house detention facilities for Haitian and Cuban refugees fleeing to the United States. It was also used as a refueling station for Navy ships. It was then converted into a high level detention facility to house enemy troops captured in the War on Terror campaign by Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfield. It has three main camps that house the prisoners. These prisoners of war were later referred to as enemy combatants. They were excluded from the prisoner of war statutes of the Geneva Convention because of their involvement in a foreign terrorist organization and therefore earning themselves the title of terrorists. The Guantanamo Bay Detention Center served as the perfect location to send these terrorists. It allowed the United States to strip them of any due process or protection that is provided by US law. Due to its location, being in foreign territory they are only subjected to military law. They are close enough for them to be monitored without interference of intentional agencies or international oversight. Della stood on the corner, her blonde hair gradually becoming heavy with droplets, guaranteeing a day of bad frizz. She d been praying for rain for months, despairing over the ravages of the extended drought in Northern California, worrying about what it meant for the future, and yet she felt irritated that the rain had chosen to come today, the day she had to take public transportation. She had never liked public transportation; it was too... public. It presented too much opportunity for unpredictability, requiring her to share personal space with strangers. This was a challenge for Della, who could be fairly described as either profoundly introverted, or just plain antisocial, depending on who was doing the describing. However, happiness is hard to achieve, but it can be as simple as being contented, doing what you love, and living who you really are. Furthermore, everyone asks how one would know that they have it already. Happiness is hard to achieve. Some people follow several steps in order to get what they want. People have unlimited wants. Without purpose, everything is lost. If people have a sense of purpose in their life, they can easily fulfill their satisfactions. Satisfying their wants would make them happy. However, being happy is not all about satisfying people s wants. It is also about being contented with what they have. The growth of happiness is directly proportional to acceptance and inversely to expectations (Fox, 2007). Acceptance of the things around a person, whether it is good or bad, can make one truly happy. In everything people do, one must follow where their heart is. From the simplest things to the hardest ones, people must follow their heart. In making their decisions and choosing their options, it is best to consult their own feelings. Following one s heart would really make one happy. It would also avoid regrets in the end. Since they chose what they really love, they would freely accept whatever the result is.
