2. WALLS
A wall is a structure that defines an area,
carries a load, or provides shelter or
security. There are many kinds of walls
3. TYPES OF WALLS
TWO MOST SIMPLEST WAYS OF
CATEGORISING BASED ON THERE
CONTRUCTION ARE :-
LOAD BEARING
NON-LOAD BEARING
4. WHAT ARE LOAD BEARING
WALLS
A structural wall actually carries the
weight of your house, from the roof and
upper floors, all the way to the
foundation.
5. WHAT ARE NON LOADING
WALLS
A wall capable only of supporting its ow
n weight and (if it is an exterior wall) ca
pable of resisting the force of the wind
blowing against it; it cannot support an
imposed load. Compare with load-
bearing wall; also called a non-
bearing wall.
7. GREEN STRUCTURE
International Green Structures (IGS) offers
innovative structures and services that
provide the solution to the global housing
crisis.
IGS offers a more efficient and healthier way
to build.
With an ever expanding population, limited
natural resources and a fragile global
economy, the need for sustainable and
affordable housing is greater than ever.
9. Compressed Agricultural Fibre
Compressed Agricultural Fibre is made of STRAW. (IGS)
ADVANTAGES OF USING STRAW AS WALL MATERIAL:-
Fire, water and mould resistant termite and pest resistant
Straw bales are 100% biodegradable—when the time comes. Straw Bale homes
can last over 100 years if properly maintained.
Straw bale homes can be beautiful as the natural material lends itself to multiple
architectural styles.
10. Concrete Insulated Walls
Insulating concrete form-work (ICF) is a cost
effective, flexible, modular, permanent concrete form
system.
The basic unit of this system are expanded
polystyrene (EPS) forms that are filled with concrete
and steel reinforcement.
There are two types of forms: planks and blocks.
11. Rammed Earth
Using wall forms, local earth materials are mixed with small amounts of
cement, then compacted into the forms. When the rammed earth is dry the
forms are removed. Rammed earth has many advantages over stick built
homes. Rammed earth walls are very thick and contain a very high thermal
mass. This reduces temperature variations inside, thus requiring less
artificial heating and cooling in the building. Rammed earth structures are
also fire and pest proof. However, if the exterior is not properly sealed,
moisture damage could occur.
