This document provides instructions for altering a main image to better incorporate additional design elements. It describes darkening the area around the model's fringe by copying the image to another canvas and using the brightness and contrast tool. It also discusses using the color balance tool to alter the image tone and hue to contrast against the green background from the studio lighting and make the image look more realistic. The changes enabled the masthead and date to be layered effectively over the image.

1. ALTERING MAIN IMAGE

2. ONE
 As I’m using a white masthead and placing a white
date beneath this above my models head, I need to
darken the area around my model’s fringe.
 To begin I copied my main image onto another
canvas so I’d be able to edit it without interference,

 After this I used the Brightness and Contrast
tool to create a darker shade across all of the
image
 This altered the tone of the background slightly,
however, this made it far less abrasive and it still
remained eye-catching

4. THREE
 From here, I knew I needed to alter the tone and
hue of the image, as due to using a studio with a
green background, the lights reflected this onto my
model’s face
 I used the colour balance tool to alter the shade of
my main image to contrast against the green and to
make it look more realistic, as well as to match the
background more effectively
