Alexander the Great conquered the largest empire in the ancient world in just 10 years from Macedonia to India. He spread Greek culture and defeated King Darius III of Persia in multiple battles, burning the royal city of Persepolis to the ground. Though he pushed his army to their limits marching into India, the Macedonians rebelled and refused to go further, forcing Alexander to begin the long retreat back to Babylon where he died at age 33, leaving his empire divided among his generals.
