LONG TERM TARGETS
Look at your initial skills audit and set yourself a long term SMART target for acting, dancing, singing
an one other from the initial skills audit sub headings.
SMART TARGETS – Long Term Target No. 1 – ACTING SKILLS
Specific EXACTLY what is it you want to
achieve (state: which, who,
what, where, when and why)
In terms of Burr, I need to
improve on physical
characterisation in order to
fully embody his energetic and
bouncy personality. I think I
should also improve upon my
dialect and accent a little bit
more, to perfect it and make
sure that it correctly imitates
my character. Overall, I need to
generally improve on the
characteristics Burr has in
Hamilton.
Measurable How will you demonstrate that
your target has been met?
I will make sure to measure
this by watching my
performance back on video
after I’ve finished it and
comparing it with different
versions of Burr in different
Hamilton productions. My
energy as Burr should be very
bouncy so I will measure this
through watching myself in the
video, and making sure that I
have enough energy.
Achievable How will you ensure this is in
your ability? Are there specific
resources that can assist you?
Can it be done at all?
This is achievable through lots
of practice of being over the
top and overbearing, so that I
can understand how to be
extremely energised in which I
can apply some of that to my
character.
Realistic It should be challenging but
realistic. Why/how is it
realistic?
This is realistic because I’m
able to keep up with the pace
of others and the energy of the
backing track, so applying that
also physically will be the next
step to development.
Time Frame Clearly specifies target dates,
review dates. It will give a
feasible deadline and a reason.
I will make sure that this target
is met by the June Musical
Theatre showcase, so that I
can properly show Burr’s
characteristics so an audience
can understand his presence in
the musical more.
Review of this SMART target
Have you achieved it? How did you achieve it? When did you achieve it? What difference has it
made to you as an actor?
SMART TARGETS – Long Term Target No. 2 – DANCING SKILLS
Specific EXACTLY what is it you want to
achieve (state: which, who,
what, where, when and why)
I need to improve my spatial
awareness in dance as well as
my use of space. I have to fill
the entire space, and make
sure that I don’t bump or harm
other performers. I also need
to make sure that I don’t lose
focus and energy.
Measurable How will you demonstrate that
your target has been met?
I will measure this by going
through routines slowly so that
I understand where I need to
go and how to avoid others. I
can also video myself and see
how much I’m using the space,
and how much I’m just staying
in a singular spot.
Achievable How will you ensure this is in
your ability? Are there specific
This is achievable by constantly
using rehearsal time to the
fullest and making sure that I
resources that can assist you?
Can it be done at all?
take every opportunity
possible to improve also. It’s
also achievable by watching
other people perform so that I
can see how they are able to
fill space in performances.
Realistic It should be challenging but
realistic. Why/how is it
realistic?
This is realistic because it will
help me to focus more and
stay in character, by not
bumping into anything and
naturally filling the space.
Time Frame Clearly specifies target dates,
review dates. It will give a
feasible deadline and a reason.
I will make sure that this will
be met by my June showcase
to show that I have a good and
clear understanding of the
skills needed for dance.
Review of this SMART target
Have you achieved it? How did you achieve it? When did you achieve it? What difference has it
made to you as an actor?
SMART TARGETS – Long Term Target No.3 – SINGING SKILLS
Specific EXACTLY what is it you want to
achieve (state: which, who,
what, where, when and why)
I need to improve on my
tempo within Non-Stop, as
sometimes I feel myself
moving too fast with the lyrics
and overpowering the backing
track. I also need to focus on
timing and memory so that I
don’t forget when other
performers are singing, and
when I come in before or after
them.
Measurable How will you demonstrate that
your target has been met?
I will measure this by
mouthing along to the words
to ensure that I know the right
speed even when lip syncing.
Also, playing the backing track
on my own and coming in only
on my part and staying silent
whilst the backing track plays
other parts will ensure that I
understand the timing needed
to come in on time with my
lines.
Achievable How will you ensure this is in
your ability? Are there specific
resources that can assist you?
Can it be done at all?
This will be achievable by
practising with my peers in our
own time. This will help all of
us have an understanding of
timing. It will also help me to
really understand the tempo.
Also, practising with just the
ensemble on my own could be
beneficial.
Realistic It should be challenging but
realistic. Why/how is it
realistic?
This is a realistic target as I can
control my voice fairly well, so
understanding the tempo
should hopefully be easy and
not take very long. It’s
challenging with the timing,
but with a lot of practice I’ll be
able to perfect it.
Time Frame Clearly specifies target dates,
review dates. It will give a
feasible deadline and a reason.
I want to achieve this by the
performance, so that the
audience understands what
I’m singing, and so that I know
I’m coming in on the right
times.
Review of this SMART target
Have you achieved it? How did you achieve it? When did you achieve it? What difference has it
made to you as an actor?
SMART TARGETS – Long Term Target No. 4 – Personal Management
Specific EXACTLY what is it you want to
achieve (state: which, who,
what, where, when and why)
I need to improve on wearing
correct attire and presentation
in rehearsals so that I can
avoid injury and also make
sure that I’m comfortable. I
also need to tie back my hair
as it is very long and often gets
in my eyes during rehearsals.
Measurable How will you demonstrate that
your target has been met?
This is measurable and I will
demonstrate this by making
sure I don’t wear jeans to
rehearsals and instead wear
more free and relieving
bottoms that will help me with
my rehearsals. Also, I will make
sure to tie my hair back every
rehearsal.
Achievable How will you ensure this is in
your ability? Are there specific
resources that can assist you?
Can it be done at all?
This is very achievable by
making sure before the lesson
starts I change into practical
attire to ensure I don’t miss
any moment of the rehearsal
time. This is the same with my
hair. I can use the changing
rooms to do this.
Realistic It should be challenging but
realistic. Why/how is it
realistic?
It is a realistic target because
it’s a simple one that should be
essential to me and my
rehearsals.
Time Frame Clearly specifies target dates,
review dates. It will give a
feasible deadline and a reason.
I will make sure that this target
is met both on the final
performance as well as every
rehearsal, so that I can make
sure that it is met.
Review of this SMART target
Have you achieved it? How did you achieve it? When did you achieve it? What difference has it
made to you as an actor?

Alfred Damps - Long Term Targets.pdf

  • 1. LONG TERM TARGETS Look at your initial skills audit and set yourself a long term SMART target for acting, dancing, singing an one other from the initial skills audit sub headings. SMART TARGETS – Long Term Target No. 1 – ACTING SKILLS Specific EXACTLY what is it you want to achieve (state: which, who, what, where, when and why) In terms of Burr, I need to improve on physical characterisation in order to fully embody his energetic and bouncy personality. I think I should also improve upon my dialect and accent a little bit more, to perfect it and make sure that it correctly imitates my character. Overall, I need to generally improve on the characteristics Burr has in Hamilton. Measurable How will you demonstrate that your target has been met? I will make sure to measure this by watching my performance back on video after I’ve finished it and comparing it with different versions of Burr in different Hamilton productions. My energy as Burr should be very bouncy so I will measure this through watching myself in the video, and making sure that I have enough energy. Achievable How will you ensure this is in your ability? Are there specific resources that can assist you? Can it be done at all? This is achievable through lots of practice of being over the top and overbearing, so that I can understand how to be extremely energised in which I can apply some of that to my character. Realistic It should be challenging but realistic. Why/how is it realistic? This is realistic because I’m able to keep up with the pace of others and the energy of the backing track, so applying that also physically will be the next step to development.
  • 2. Time Frame Clearly specifies target dates, review dates. It will give a feasible deadline and a reason. I will make sure that this target is met by the June Musical Theatre showcase, so that I can properly show Burr’s characteristics so an audience can understand his presence in the musical more. Review of this SMART target Have you achieved it? How did you achieve it? When did you achieve it? What difference has it made to you as an actor? SMART TARGETS – Long Term Target No. 2 – DANCING SKILLS Specific EXACTLY what is it you want to achieve (state: which, who, what, where, when and why) I need to improve my spatial awareness in dance as well as my use of space. I have to fill the entire space, and make sure that I don’t bump or harm other performers. I also need to make sure that I don’t lose focus and energy. It’s also achievable by watching other people perform so that I can see how they are able to fill space in performances. Realistic It should be challenging but realistic. Why/how is it realistic? This is realistic because it will help me to focus more and stay in character, by not bumping into anything and naturally filling the space. Time Frame Clearly specifies target dates, review dates. It will give a feasible deadline and a reason. I will make sure that this will be met by my June showcase to show that I have a good and clear understanding of the skills needed for dance. Review of this SMART target Have you achieved it? How did you achieve it? When did you achieve it? What difference has it made to you as an actor? SMART TARGETS – Long Term Target No.3 – SINGING SKILLS Specific EXACTLY what is it you want to achieve (state: which, who, what, where, when and why) I need to improve on my tempo within Non-Stop, as sometimes I feel myself moving too fast with the lyrics and overpowering the backing track. I also need to focus on timing and memory so that I don’t forget when other

I will measure this by mouthing along to the words to ensure that I know the right speed even when lip syncing. Also, playing the backing track on my own and coming in only on my part and staying silent whilst the backing track plays other parts will ensure that I understand the timing needed to come in on time with my lines. Achievable How will you ensure this is in your ability? Are there specific resources that can assist you? Can it be done at all? This will be achievable by practising with my peers in our own time. This will help all of us have an understanding of timing. It will also help me to really understand the tempo. Also, practising with just the ensemble on my own could be beneficial. Realistic It should be challenging but realistic. Why/how is it realistic? This is a realistic target as I can control my voice fairly well, so understanding the tempo should hopefully be easy and not take very long. It’s challenging with the timing, but with a lot of practice I’ll be able to perfect it. Time Frame Clearly specifies target dates, review dates. It will give a feasible deadline and a reason. I want to achieve this by the performance, so that the audience understands what I’m singing, and so that I know I’m coming in on the right times. Review of this SMART target Have you achieved it? • 5. SMART TARGETS – Long Term Target No. 4 – Personal Management Specific EXACTLY what is it you want to achieve (state: which, who, what, where, when and why) I need to improve on wearing correct attire and presentation in rehearsals so that I can avoid injury and also make sure that I’m comfortable. I also need to tie back my hair as it is very long and often gets in my eyes during rehearsals. Measurable How will you demonstrate that your target has been met? This is measurable and I will demonstrate this by making sure I don’t wear jeans to rehearsals and instead wear more free and relieving bottoms that will help me with my rehearsals. Also, I will make sure to tie my hair back every rehearsal. Achievable How will you ensure this is in your ability? Are there specific resources that can assist you? Can it be done at all? This is very achievable by making sure before the lesson starts I change into practical attire to ensure I don’t miss any moment of the rehearsal time. This is the same with my hair. I can use the changing rooms to do this. Realistic It should be challenging but realistic. Why/how is it realistic? It is a realistic target because it’s a simple one that should be essential to me and my rehearsals.
